Saturday, December 7 - Take to the Woods! MTB or Hybrid, Class C, 7-10 mph, 9 or 18 miles. Meet 9:00 on the north side (Philly) of Rt 420 in Prospect Park, Pa, at the John Heinz Wildlife Reserve side lot. From there we'll ride the Reserve's pathways observing Winter nature (we may stop to look). The Reserve is noted for birds, deer, foxes, rabbits, and a whole lot more. We'll enjoy a low impact mountain bike ride from Rt 420 to the Reserve's nature center located at the edge of Philadelphia. If open we'll stop inside for a look at the displays (bring a lock). Afterwards we'll head back to Rt 420 following a different path. If anyone wants to, we can do a second round as it is only a 9-mile loop. Please note that the trail is very tame. This makes the hybrid bike an excellent alternative if you don't own a mountain bike. Rides like this can be enjoyable alternatives to the road even if the temperatures are low. So don't let the cold deter you. Wet weather or recent heavy rains will cancel, as navigating the trail will not be practical. Light or old snow may still allow the ride to occur. Call ahead. Leader: Frank Jackson 610-534-3978 (eve), 215-537-4299 (day). fjackson@rohmhaas.com.
