We'll ride through some of the nicest sections of northern Hunterdon county, N.J. (Tewksbury Township between Pottersville and Califon). This area is full of ravines with beautiful creeks and lush vegetation along wonderful roads. Although you should expect to climb here, the ride starts along relatively flat roads in the farmlands of west and east Amwell Townships and, after climbing out from the Round Valley Reservoir, returns along the flat plateau around Locktown. Two stops. Registration and free bagels (yes, from famous B&Bs!) at 7:45, mass start at 8:00 from the Village Square shopping center on Route 29 and Cherry St (near US 202) in Lambertville, NJ. From Philly (45-50 mile drive) follow I-95 to Trenton, take the first exit in N.J. after the bridge, and follow SR 29 North for 10 miles to Lambertville. Shopping center is on your left after going through town, before US 202. Call if weather is questionable. Email if you want a cue sheet. Digest your nutrients on a more relaxing road to St. Matthews before getting back into stride for a few "milder" slopes. They lead to East Pikeland, Schuylkill and Valley Forge. A challenging ride. 8:30 departure from Manhattan Bagel in the Chesterbrook Shopping Center, on Chesterbrook Blvd, easily accessed from U.S. 202 or Pa 252. Arrive earlier if you want breakfast. No one dropped. We stop to regroup as needed. Cue sheets provided. Bring snacks, beverage, and money. A joint ride with BBC and DVBC. The ride will leave 10:00 from the Spring Mill train station parking lot - plenty of free parking on weekends. We will follow the Schuylkill Trail, to the Perkiomen Trail to Collegeville. Thence we'll pedal by Media, and via the Smedley/Leiper Trail back to Pathmark. Expect to finish around or just before noon. We'll enjoy lots of back road beauty.
