Sunday, September 5 - Peter Odell Memorial: 5th Annual Big Apple Century. Classes A, B, and C, 125, 90, 70 and 50 mile options. The only century that takes you to the capital of the world. Fabulous farmscapes, the Watchung Mountains, the Great Swamp Wildlife Preserve, fancy suburbs, broad boulevards, the industrial wonders of Port Elizabeth, Newark Airport, Jersey City, Hoboken (birthplace of baseball and Frank Sinatra), ferry to Manhattan, Statue of Liberty, Wall Street, and even a bike ride across the Brooklyn Bridge! Fully sag supported, registration and $30 due by August 31 includes return bus trip for you and your bike. Showers available and dinner on your own in Brooklyn. C riders will be bussed to Lyons, NJ to bike at their own pace, where Ray will catch up with them to lead them into the city. Saturday, September 11 - A Ride to Appease the Century Volunteers. Class A-, 90 miles (17-18 mph); class B+/B, 53 miles (15-16 mph); and class B (15 mph). This ride was routed through all the green blobs in the Montgomery County map book in an attempt to hit every state park and gameland in the area. We begin at Evansburg State Park (the A-group will begin at Bruno's and attempt a rendezvous) and ride out to Green Lane via the Reservoir for tomato pie or sandwiches. The B group will enjoy a flatter option for the route home. A- group leaves from Bruno's at 8:00 at the corner of Northwestern & Germantown Avenues. The B+/B and B groups leave at 9:00 from the parking lot across from the hostel at Evansburg State Park. From Plymouth Meeting, take Germantown Pike west for 9 miles, make a right at Skippack Creek Road, and follow signs for the park. Call if the Weatherguy predicts gloom and doom. Saturday, September 25 - Lititz. Class B, 72 miles, approx 15 mph avg. with maps for the racers and the flower pickers. This is a beautiful ride through the Pa. Dutch country to the town of Lititz for lunch. We'll have a picnic in the park after stopping at a food store to pick up sandwiches, or bring your own. Water, restrooms, picnic tables and plenty of shade, but food must be carried in. We've done this ride almost every year for a while now, and it's a good one. Once we leave Ambler, this is a different route than the usual until we reach the Bagel Barrel in Doylestown for the second rest stop. Terrain is flat to rolling with 2 or 3 short, harder climbs. Starts at 9:00 from Pequea Valley High School. From route 202, take route 30 west (the bypass, not Business route 30) to Newport Road, route 772 (it's the first right after route 41). Friday to Sunday, October 1-3 - Fall Event. BCP returns to Hagerstown, Md. All Classes. Check-in starts Friday at noon, and we have dozens of cue sheets to explore the beautiful countryside. Rides will be scheduled to Antietam battlefield and Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. Take your hybrid or mountain bike and pedal along the C&O canal towpath and take in the canal museum. Continental breakfast provided both days. We will have a cheese, wine, and beer party Saturday night before our banquet, which includes seafood and prime rib selections. We had 60 people attend last year. Come on out for the riding, the camaraderie,and the fall foliage! See registration form included in this Quick Release. Sunday, October 17 - Third Annual Recumbent/Tandem Ride. Class
C/C+/B, 43 or 56 flat miles. All bikes welcome! Come out to Salem
County, N.J. for a pretty, rural ride and learn more about, and
even try out a recumbent or tandem or maybe even a recumbent tandem!
You don't need a recumbent or tandem to join us, but if you have
one, bring it out. See the oldest tree in N.J. (it's gigantic)
and a Confederate cemetery too. Quick lunch stop; no need for
locks. There is a 13-mile loop that begins and ends at the lunch
stop, so you can ride 56 miles if you like. The cue sheet is accurate,
so you can ride faster or slower if you choose. Ride starts at
9:30 sharp at Fort Mott State Park. Call for directions. Leaders:
