Rain or Shine

Dear Registrants,

After long, hard discussion, our Century Committee and members of BCP's Board this afternoon made the decision to cancel this year's Scenic Schuylkill Century.

The decision was made because we're unable to assure our riders of a reasonably safe, well-marked route (major re-routing would have been required) in light of the unprecedented rain and flooding in recent days, with forecasts of rain and continued flood stage waters on the Schuylkill River (our route hugs the river for the first and last 10 miles) and other areas through Saturday. The decision was difficult, but safety trumps other considerations.

We appreciate your registering for the ride, and will be contacting you with more information. See you next year!

Sincerely,

Josh, Rob, & Chuck

Routes and Amenities

Whether you are an avid or recreational cyclist, we have a route for you. Ride our 25 or 40 mile route, or challenge yourself with our Metric or Full Century route. We made changes on all of our routes last year, some minor, some major. We were very pleased that the feedback we received was very enthusiastically positive.

We offer breakfast at the start, five rest stops featuring cold drinks and homemade baked goods, mechanical support, and SAG (support) wagons. To top it off, we have a pizza bash at the finish.

Philadelphia Bicycling Weekend

Maybe the Scenic Schuylkill Century is not enough cycling for you. Perhaps you want to ride one of our challenging routes on Saturday plus an easier route with the family on Sunday. Make it a Philadelphia Bicycling Weekend by also participating in the Bike Philly ride on Sunday, September 11.

Please note that the Philadelphia Bicycling Weekend is a joint effort between two unrelated organizations. Together, we are promoting a weekend of fun cycling in Philadelphia and offering discounted registration for those doing both events.

  • The Scenic Schuylkill Century is a Bicycle Club of Philadelphia (Philadelphia’s leading bicycling club) event.
  • Bike Philly is a Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia (the area's bicycling advocacy group) event.

Volunteers Needed

Want to help out? This event runs on "people power" and it requires the effort of many folks to make it a success. You can even volunteer and get to ride. There are many tasks that occur prior to the day of the ride (road marking, baking) and some early in the day of the ride (registration and breakfast) that leave plenty of time to go on the ride. With our change in routes (essentially three circular routes, from rest stop to rest stop) you can even do a shift at a rest stop and have time to cycle a portion of the ride, complete with rest stops and SAG support.
