    Wed October 1, 2014 - Nighttime Phoenixville Dog Ride

    Level C+/B-, 13-14 mph, 30 miles. Meet at Reynolds Dog Park, Longford Rd, Oaks, PA. The ride leaves at 6:00 pm. Dress in your brightest reflective clothes, charge up your light batteries, and join us for a great workout on low-traffic roads. This ride will easily beat anything you can do on an indoor trainer. Don't lose that great conditioning just because it's darker now - seize the night and join the fun. Ride canceled if snow or ice is on the roads, or if precipitation is forecast between 6:00 and 8:00 pm. Low temperatures do NOT cancel the ride - add more layers. Will pick up riders at top of trail station at approximately 10:15. Then, Bryn Mawr Ave, Mt Pleasant, quick coffee break at the Outbound Station, up Hart's Ln, Hull and back to city via SRT.     Level C - B+, 13-17 mph, 25 miles. Power Line Trail on Dresher Road in Horsham, across from the hotel. The ride leaves at 6:00 pm. Various paces depending on who shows up. Various ride leaders. You must have a BRIGHT headlight and tail light as the power line trail has no lights. Ride also goes on the 202 bike path for a short while and through some neighborhoods. Bring something to drink and eat while riding. No bathroom stop. Rain, wet roads, temps below 30 cancels. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Fri October 3, 2014 - Friday Frolic w/Linda. Langhorne, Bucks County to Lambertville, NJ

    Level B-/C+, 13-15 mph, 56 miles. Cairn University, 200 Manor Ave, Langhorne Manor, PA, near Manor and Bellevue.. The ride leaves at 9:45 am. Today's pretty ride will be a change of location and scenery. This is a picturesque route in Bucks County, as well as Hunterdon County, NJ, from Langhorne, to Yardley, Washington Crossing, Titusville and Lambertville in NJ, then returning to Washington Crossing and Langhorne. Mostly rolling terrain with some nice, flat stretches along the river. A couple of brisk climbs before the lunch stop, but nothing too steep. Total elevation gain is 2568 ft. Rest stop in Washington Crossing at mile 15. Lunch stop in Lambertville at a coffee shop/roastery at mile 32. DRIVING DIRECTIONS: to Cairn University from Philadelphia, heading north to Langhorne: Take US-1 North, and go beyond the Neshaminy Mall. Stay straight on the US-1 North expressway toward Morrisville. Take the exit for Bellevue Ave/PA-413 -- this is a right-lane exit and a right turn onto Bellevue. From Bellevue, in 0.6 mi, turn left onto MANOR Ave. You will see signs for Cairn University. Make a soft left turn onto University Drive (look for the red & white "Welcome" banner).     Level B-/C+, 13-15 mph, 45-50, +/- miles. Various starting points -- please check the daily . The ride leaves at 9:46 am. Enjoy scenic adventures by bike on most Fridays, throughout the year. We'll explore pretty, peaceful roads in suburban counties -- Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, etc. Starting points will vary, so that we can cycle through different regions. Depending on the destination, starting point may be in Conshohocken, Flourtown, Jenkintown, Wayne, Valley Forge, etc. Please check the daily calendar for details of each Friday's route -- terrain, mileage, rest stops, etc. Cue sheets and on-line route map will be provided for each ride. Scheduled for virtually every Friday throughout the year, with a few exceptions here & there. If weather conditions are not conducive to cycling, this ride may be replaced by a hike/walk (on foot). As long as we are enjoying outdoor physical exercise, and Mother Nature, in the company of friends, we'll have a memorable outing. Cue sheets will be available.

Narberth through Bryn Mawr and out to Waynesborough Country Club. Then south to Ridley Creek State Park. Back through Villanova (and Gladwyne if the group wants more hills). No one gets dropped.     Sat October 4, 2014 - Brandywine Creek & Northbrook Orchards in Chester County START TIME PUSHED BACK TO 10:00AM

    Level B-, 13-15 mph, 65 miles. Lower parking lot at Valley Forge National Park, behind the Visitors Center. This is near the main entrance to VFNP, on PA-23, just off US-422.. The ride leaves at 10:00 am. WEATHER UPDATE: According to Accuweather.com, early morning rain should pass through Valley Forge by 10am, so we will postpone the starting time at bit. Pretty route along mostly quiet, peaceful roads in Chester County, from Valley Forge to Northbrook Orchards, which is west of West Chester. Outbound via Paoli and Malvern, return via East Goshen and Berwyn. Some scenic and flat stretches along Creek Rd, crossing the serene Brandywine. Overall, rolling to hilly, but we will stop to regroup as needed. Total climbing 3914 ft. Quick Wawa stop at mile 20. Lunch stop at Northbrook Orchards at mile 32. (If you are not familiar with Northbrook Orchards, it's sort of a cross between Del Val College Market and Tabora's.) Quick Wawa stop at mile 50, on the return. Cue sheets will be available. Scenic rolling with some hills route around the Hopewell Valley in New Jersey while enjoying the Stampede Art exhibit. Spawned from the original “Cow Parade” in Zurich, Switzerland in 1998. We will pass around 30 or so Philadelphia made decorative Oxen. Quick water stop in Hopewell at mile 29. Some Climbs but nothing major. Welcome to join second afternoon ride if you want more cow.     Level D, 8-12 mph, 16-20 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 12:00 pm. Easy paced ride for those new to cycling or trying to improve fitness. Instruction on group riding, safety and equipment provided as needed. Ride regroups as necessary so no one is dropped. Route is around the Fairmount Park area, fairly flat, with 2-3 hills depending on the route. You will need a helmet, inner tube for your tire, and water. Snack is optional, but suggested. Mostly flat to rolling scenic loop around Pennington, NJ while enjoying the Stampede Art exhibit. Spawned from the original “Cow Parade” in Zurich, Switzerland in 1998. We will quickly visit around 30 or so decorative Oxen. For additional fun the Blue Bottle Cafe is challenging all shutterbugs to submit their favorite pictures of the Oxen and win a chance to win a free dinner and The Hopewell Valley Community Bank is also hosting a “Oxen Selfie” photo contest.     Fri October 10, 2014 - Friday Frolic w/Linda. Wayne to Northbrook Orchards & the Brandywine Creek

    Level B-/C+, 13-15 mph, 57 miles. Meet at Church of the Saviour, Wayne, PA. The ride leaves at 9:45 am. For those of you who were not able to join last Saturday's ride from Valley Forge National Park to Northbrook Orchards, this is a slightly shortened version, leaving from Church of the Saviour in Wayne. We have deleted a few climbs, as well as miles. This is a lovely route through gorgeous Chester County countryside, on mostly quiet roads. If you've never visited Northbrook, it's a cross between Tabora's in Chalfont, the Carversville Store, and the Del Val College Market. Outbound route will go through Paoli and Malvern. We have an optional Wawa quick rest stop at mile 16. The lunch stop at Northbrook in the Brandywine area is at mile 28. On the return, there is a Wawa stop in East Goshen at mile 47. We return to Wayne via Sugartown Rd. Total elevation gain is 3590 feet. We will stop to regroup as needed. Most of the hills are rolling, and we have some very scenic flat stretches along both sides of the Brandywine Creek. No one dropped, but we will try to maintain a minimum average of 13mph, as advertised. This combines all of the above into The Kitchen Sink Century. Note that the ride is completely non-supported (no SAG, no mechanics). Bring plenty of fluids and nutrition (only one food stop). Quick bathroom/water breaks along the way and a lunch stop in New Hope. Expect a relatively challenge ride, with lots of scenic, low trafficked roads and rolling hills, with a few climbs here and there. No one dropped, but please be prepared to ride the advertised pace.     Level D, 10 mph, 30 miles. SEPTA Yardley Train Station. The ride leaves at 9:45 am. I privately checked out the Delaware Canal to New Hope and deemed it suitable for a easy club ride. So let's do it! The Delaware Canal is the official name of the canal a long the Pennsylvania side of the Delaware River. We will cycle up from Yardley, PA to New Hope, Then walk across the bridge into Lambertville, NJ for refreshment at a coffee shop before cycling back along the Delaware and Raritan Canal, the offical name of the canal on the New Jersey side.     Level B/C, 13.5 mph, 64 miles. CV Trail parking area in Wayne. The ride leaves at 9:31 am. Cycling to the Northbrook Orchards Market in Wawaset, but with a different route. Some of the roads you may never have ridden. Two water stops, one food stop, and 3500' of climbing are incorporated on the route. Please note: We will be using a totally new ride start location. The start is in the Chester Valley Trail parking lot, located near the intersection of Devon Park Drive and Warner Rd in Wayne, PA. Entrance to the lot is off Warner Rd. Ride through beautiful Berks County, with a few references to the music of Frog Holler (the mighty Tulpehocken, Adams Hotel, etc.). Rolling hills, miles of creeky goodness. The trees should be displaying nice colors. There are many photo ops, so bring your camera. Pre-ride donuts at the Frying Dutchman, 236 W Main St, Kutztown. Fresh donuts, made to order, piping hot.     Level D+ C-, 10-11 mph, 18 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 10:45 am. Ride to watch Temple U Lady Owls play a volleyball match vrs. Memphis. College volleyball is quite exciting to watch live and we will be seated courtside. We will spin off from Azalea Gardens at 10:45. We will ride through East and West Fairmount Park before heading to Pearson/McGonigle Hall at Broad and Montgomery for the 1 PM start. Admission is FREE. Pearson Hall has a large row of hitching posts to lock up your bike. There is a SMALL concession stand at the gym. You may want to bring food. Return to starting point will be after the match. I invite you to grab your Mountain or Hybrid bike and join me at Oaks PA for a 40 mile ride (shorter distance available) on mostly packed gravel bike trail along the Perkiomen creek up to Green Lane Park and back. 10 - 13 pace. Additional 15 mile leg to Evansburg State Park is optional (paved) on the return leg. One climb around Spring Mount in both directions. The world is not flat according to CC.     Level B-/C+, 13-15 mph, 50 miles. Jenkintown Whole Foods Market on The Fairway, ~1 mile east of Old York Rd/PA-611. Park at far end of lot, near Rydal Park senior apts. The ride leaves at 9:45 am. This pretty route takes us through Montgomery County, from the Whole Foods Market in Jenkintown, to the Whole Foods in North Wales (mile 18), then to the Whole Foods in Plymouth Meeting (mile 33), then back to Jenkintown. Along the way, we'll ride through scenic Huntingdon Valley, Bryn Athyn, Gwynedd, etc. Total climbing is 2191 feet. Terrain is mostly rolling, with a few brisk climbs, but nothing too steep. We will stop to regroup as needed. No one dropped, but we will try to maintain a minimum average of 13mph, as advertised. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Scenic adventures by bike on most Fridays, throughout the year. Explore pretty, peaceful roads in suburban counties -- Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, etc. Starting points will vary, so that we can cycle through different regions.     Level B/B-, 14.5-15.0 mph, 47 +/- miles. Meet at Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 8:00 am. Assemble at 8:00. We willl leave at 8:10 SHARP! Ride through East Falls, Mount Airy, Chestnut Hill, Wyndmor, Fort Washington, Upper Dublin, Oreland, Whitemarsh, Ambler, and Manyunk. Many hills, but no killers. One quick comfort stop at mile 24, and long coffee stop in Manyunk at mile 40 or so. (it's all about the coffee.) Riders doing advertised pace (which is what our computers should read as "average" at the finish) will not be dropped. Partial cue sheet showing turns, but not milage.     Level D, 10 mph, 62 miles. SEPTA Yardley Train Station. The ride leaves at 8:45 am. Let's go reconnoitering. I have cycled from Trenton, NJ to Frenchtown, NJ on the Delaware and Raritan Canal but never over the portion from Trenton to the Rariton River at New Brunswich, NJ. The history of this canal was to transport coal on barges drawn by mules down the impassible Delaware River to Trenton and then over to the Raritan River and on to the Port of New York. The tow path has been preserved as a recreational path. For those in CC Philly, take the SEPTA West Trenton train # 4308, 7:30 am, 30th Street Station. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Sat October 25, 2014 - Haverford Heritage Trail Ride (ad-hoc ride)

    Level D, 8-10 mph, 14 miles. Karakung Drive at Beechwood-Brookline Station, Havertown PA. The ride leaves at 1:00 pm. Come out Saturday and enjoy fresh air, fall colors and learn more about our local history - all wrapped into a bike ride! Brookline's own Chris Shelton will lead the ride. We will meet at the bottom of the steps at the Beechwood-Brookline station of the SEPTA Norristown High Speed Line, on Karakung Drive near Mill Road. The history-themed route covers the historic sites along the Haverford Heritage Trail loop and includes the Darby Creek Trail (currently 1 mile paved; future section is an unpaved trail with a few rough surface areas and walk-through sections). A mix of mostly on-road, some trail and some off-road, with some hills. Off-road sections require 25cc tires or wider (hybrid, touring or mountain). Relaxing OWLS (Older,Wiser,Longer,Slower) paced ride along the SRT and parts of Fairmount Park and beyond, depending on the riders that are present. New and young riders are welcomed. Bring Helmet, extra tube for your bike. We will stop for a rest about 1/2 way for a snack. This will be a worst hair day ride for the person deemed by the group to have the worst helmet hair.     Tue October 28, 2014 - Manayunk Bridge Trail Ground Breaking Ceremony (ad-hoc ride)

    Level D, 10 mph, 20 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 8:30 am. The Manayunk Bridge Trail will have an official ground breaking ceremony this Tuesday, Oct 28th, 11AM at Dupont and High Street in Manayunk, High St is the first right off of Leverington Ave before you would turn to go up Umbria St. We will ride out to Manayunk for breakfast at Le Bus, and then go over to the ceremony. Those who wish to meet at Le Bus, be there at 9:30 AM, or those who can only attend the ground breaking, 11 AM at Dupont and High Sts. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Tue October 28, 2014 - Ride yer Bike Tuesdays

    Level C+ and B, 14 +/- and 16 +/- mph, 45 miles. Meet at Ft. Washington State Park, Flourtown Picnic Area. The ride leaves at 10:00 am. Bring yer bike and sense of adventure. Some days we'll ride familiar favorite routes, other days we'll scope out some new routes. Today we'll ride to Harleysville, but for pizza (or Wawa), not Hennings Market. Expect mostly rolling terrain and lo-traffic roads. Will regroup as needed, but must be able to maintain the average pace. Check with ride leaders if forecast is iffy.     Level C - B+, 13-17 mph, 25 miles. Meet at Jacobs Engineering Parking Lot. The ride leaves at 6:00 pm. Paces from 13 -17 mph depending on who shows up. About 25 miles to Lloyd Hall at Boat House Row. Short bathroom break at Lloyd Hall. BRIGHT headlight and taillight required. Part of the ride is on the Schuykill River Trail that has no lights. Various ride leaders. Bring a snack and something to eat. Rain, wet roads, temps below 30 cancel. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Wed October 29, 2014 - Nighttime Phoenixville Dog Ride

    Level C+/B-, 13-14 mph, 30 miles. Meet at Reynolds Dog Park, Longford Rd, Oaks, PA. The ride leaves at 6:00 pm. Dress in your brightest reflective clothes, charge up your light batteries, and join us for a great workout on low-traffic roads. This ride will easily beat anything you can do on an indoor trainer. Don't lose that great conditioning just because it's darker now - seize the night and join the fun. Ride canceled if snow or ice is on the roads, or if precipitation is forecast between 6:00 and 8:00 pm. Low temperatures do NOT cancel the ride - add more layers.     Thu October 30, 2014 - Horsham Power Line Trail Ride

    Level C - B+, 13-17 mph, 25 miles. Power Line Trail on Dresher Road in Horsham, across from the hotel. The ride leaves at 6:00 pm. Various paces depending on who shows up. Various ride leaders. You must have a BRIGHT headlight and tail light as the power line trail has no lights. Ride also goes on the 202 bike path for a short while and through some neighborhoods. Bring something to drink and eat while riding. No bathroom stop. Rain, wet roads, temps below 30 cancels. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Fri October 31, 2014 - Frightfully Fun Friday Frolic w/Linda, Special Halloween Edition. Norristown Farm Park to Limerick/Royerstown. Post-ride Mini Tailgate Party.

    Level B-/C+, 13-15 mph, 55 miles. Norristown Farm Park, parking lot on White Hall Road between Germantown Pike and Sterigere. This parking lot is directly across from the Norristown Area High School on Eagle Drive. . The ride leaves at 9:45 am. Pretty route from Norristown Farm Park to Java's Brewin' Cafe in Limerick/Royersford. In honor of Halloween, we'll take a slight detour through the Farm Park and the campus of Norristown State Hospital to cycle past one or two spooky buildings. We will have flat stretches along the SRT at both the beginning and final segments of this route. On our way out to Limerick, there is an optional quick rest break if needed in Phoenixville at mile 14. Sit-down food stop at the cafe in Limerick at mile 34. On the return, we'll be in Phoenixville again at mile 43, if another quick break is needed. Total climbing is 2630 feet. Rolling hills, but we will stop to regroup as needed. No one dropped, but we will try to maintain 13mph, as advertised. For HALLOWEEN: Prizes for the bicycle voted by the group to have the best Halloween decorations, as well as the best-decorated (costumed) cyclist.
