    Fri July 1, 2016 - Pencoyd Bridge Ride

    Level D, 10 mph, 20 miles. Cosmic Cafe, Loyd Hall, # 1 Boathouse Row, Kelly Dr. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. The Pencoyd Bridge over the Schuylkill River from Main Street in Manayunk close to the movie theater to the O'Neil new apartment complex on the Connelly Container property is rumored to open July 1, 2016. Let's go and find out! We will approach the bridge from the Cynwyd Heritage Trail, through the West Laurel Hill Cemetery down to the river. The only catch is, if the bridge is not open, we will need to cycle back up to the Cynwyd Heritage Trail and over the Manuyunk Trail Bridge to Manayunk for coffee. But for sure, there will be an official ribbon cutting for the official opening of Pencoyd Bridge, Thursday, July 7, 2016, 10:30am. I will be leading a ride to that event too.     Fri July 1, 2016 - Friday Frolic w/Linda. This is the generic description. DEFERRED for 7/1, due to the special holiday ride from Flourtown to Ocean City, NJ. Please see the above listing

    Level B-/C+, 13-15 mph, 45-50, +/- miles. Various starting points -- please check the daily . The ride leaves at 9:30 am. DEFERRED for 7/1. The Friday Frolic will resume on 7/8. Enjoy scenic adventures by bike on most Fridays, throughout the year. We'll explore pretty, peaceful roads in suburban counties -- Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, etc. Starting points will vary, so that we can cycle through different regions. Depending on the destination, starting point may be in Conshohocken, Flourtown, Jenkintown, Wayne, Valley Forge, etc. Please check the daily calendar for details of each Friday's route -- terrain, mileage, rest stops, etc. Cue sheets and on-line route map will be provided for each ride. Scheduled for virtually every Friday throughout the year, with a few exceptions here & there. If weather conditions are not conducive to cycling, this ride may be replaced by a hike/walk (on foot). As long as we are enjoying outdoor physical exercise, and Mother Nature, in the company of friends, we'll have a memorable outing. Cue sheets will be available.

    Level C, 12.5-13.5 mph, 35 miles. Meet at Valley Forge National Park - Betzwood Picnic Area (by bathrooms). The ride leaves at 7:30 am. Let's get an early start and ride around the Chester Springs area. We'll meet at 7:15 for a prompt 7:30 start. This is a very nice Rich Wagner route around the area that he does all winter - let's check it out in summer. We will stop to regroup as needed, but please be prepared to ride the advertised pace. There will be a short rest stop at Kimberton Wholefoods at mile 18. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Level B+, 16-17 mph, 40-55 miles. Main Line Cycles front of shop 919 Montgomery Ave. The ride leaves at 8:05 am. Great roads with low traffic. We have a few routes that bring us out around or through Ridley Creek State Park. Average speed will be 16-17 mph, but note that these routes include over 4000' of climbing.     Level B, 13.5 mph, 60 miles. Spring Mill Train Station (parking lot near bike trail). The ride leaves at 9:05 am. A ride through central Chester County to the Artisan Exchange in West Chester. The Artisan Exchange is a small business collaboration that features local food entrepreneurs. The ride will also have two other water stops. 3300' of climbing Cue sheets will be available.

    Sat July 2, 2016 - Toss of the dice - Bryn Athyn

    Level C+, 13-14.5 mph, 45-60 miles. Meet at Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 9:15 am. Friendly C+ ride with, but not limited to, the following destinations: 1. Ambler 2. Whole Foods North Wales 3. Wegman's King of Prussia 4. Whole Foods Devon 5. Ridley Creek State Park area. Nobody is dropped. This week we will be headed out to beautiful Bryn Athyn. Please note that this a new addition to our most familiar routes. There will be a good deal of climbing. Our halfway rest stop will be at Bryn Athyn Cathedral, so bring your own lunch/snacks as we will not be stopping at a grocery store for lunch break (we will stop for additional water and restrooms as needed). Ride may be cancelled up to 1 hour prior to departure time.     Sat July 2, 2016 - Chester Valley Trail, Norristown to Exton

    Level D, 10 mph, 36 miles. Elm Street Station of SEPTA Manayunk /Norristown Line Regional Rail . The ride leaves at 9:30 am. We will cycle the entire Chester Valley Trail beginning from the SEPTA Manayunk /Norristown Line Regional Rail, Elm Street Station in Norristown, PA. Center city residents can catch a ride on train 202 at 30th Street Station, 8:26am, Suburban Station, 8:31am, and Jefferson Station, 8:36am. All other riders be at the Elm Street Station , 9:20am. There is free parking on Saturdays at the station. Lunch stop at Main Street shopping center at the end of the trail. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Sun July 3, 2016 - DOWN THE SHORE for the Holiday - Stone Harbor to Belleplain (51-mi) or Millville (88-mi)

    Level B- and B, 14-15, 16-18 mph, 51 or 88 miles. Stone Harbor Playground & Bocce Ball courts, on 1st Avenue (next to the beach), between 80th & 81st Streets, behind the Recreation Center.. The ride leaves at 8:30 am. Mostly flat route from Stone Harbor/Avalon inland to Belleplain and Millville, then back to the shore. Mike Krizauskas of BCP, SCU, and the Jersey Shore Cycling Club developed these routes. We will ride past Laurel Lake, cross the Maurice River, and ride through Belleplain State Forest and pass peaceful Lake Nummy. Total climbing for the 88-mi route is 1011 feet. No one dropped, but we will try to maintain the advertised pace. Rest stops along the way at mile 32 (Wawa), mile 44 (Wawa) and mile 68 (Lake Nummy). Mike Krizauskas will be leading a shorter route (51-mi) at a faster pace (16-18mph). Linda will be leading the 88-mi at 14-15mph. If you would like to do the 51-mi route with Mike, this is the route map link: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/3046826. The 51-miler has two rest stops, at Wawa and Belleplain's Lake Nummy. DRIVING DIRECTIONS: From Philadelphia, please allow at least 90 mins drive time to Avalon/Stone Harbor, via Atlantic City Expressway & Garden State Parkway. From the Garden State Parkway, use Exit 13/Avalon Boulevard. If you miss Exit 13, take the next one - Exit 10B/Stone Harbor Blvd. If you are coming from other Shore Points, take the Ocean Drive. CARPOOLING: LMc will be available to meet for car-pooling at 6:15am at a mutually convenient location in NE Phila. or eastern Montgomery County. PARKING: Parking is available on 1st Avenue (parallel to the beach), and on 2nd Ave/Dune Drive. Recreation Center opens at 8:00am, and there are bathrooms available at the Rec Center.     Sun July 3, 2016 - Maillot Jaune

    Level B/B-, 13-14 mph, 62 miles. Valley Forge National Park (Visitor Center, lower parking lot). The ride leaves at 9:00 am. The annual ride to celbrate our favorite bike race, the Tour de France. Cyclists are encouraged to wear their maillot jaune, maillot vert, maillot blanc, or maillot blanc a pois rouges. Ride will take us through western Delaware County on our way from Valley Forge to Chadds Ford. Climbing will be required, although no hors catagorie. Two convenience store stops are planned, with a third if needed. NO DOPERS ALLOWED! Baguette & vin optional. Cue sheets will be available.

    Level B, 14 mph, 35+/- miles. . The ride leaves at 9:45 am. Bring your 29er, CX, Gravel or equip your road bike with wider tires as we mashup rides across various asphalt, gravel and sometimes dirt terrains. Expect a good challenge as we grind gravel trails and hit a few climbs with great company for no other purpose than to have fun and put in a few unpaved miles.

    Level D, 10 mph, 15-25 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 12:00 pm. Come out and enjoy a leasurely bicycle ride thru Fairmont Park and or near suburbs. Especially apropreate for novice riders, new riders to the city and those new to group riding. Lots of tips on city cycling. Bring a helmet, tools to fix a flat tire ( we will coach you on how to fix a flat if the occasion deflates), water and a few dollars for a coffee stop. Starting from the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington Square, we will follow the original G Dubs training route to Valley Forge. A quick water break in Radnor (on Beaumont Rd) then on to Malvern for lunch. Return from VF will be via the Schuylkill Trail. - I will have an optional hilly ride back to Phila. from VF(tho with no ride leader). The idea is to have a moderate bike ride and get back in time for afternoon BBQ. We will be riding through the middle of Ridley Creek State Park. I did my best to eliminate hills or make them as easy as possible, but there is still some climbing. We will regroup as needed. 2 WAWA stops. NOT a beginner ride, but not super difficult. Some days we'll ride familiar favorite routes, other days we'll scope out new routes.     Level B-/C+, 13.5-14.5 mph, 20-35 miles. Meet at Reynolds Dog Park, Longford Rd, Oaks, PA. The ride leaves at 6:00 pm. One paces will be offered: 13.5-14.5 mph. No one dropped, regroup as necessary. These rides tend to be on the hilly side, compared to other start locations. Come on out and see why the regular riders are so enthusiastic about this ride. This is an excellent workout. Rides start at 6:00 and go until sunset. These rides are scheduled every Wednesday from May 4 until September 28. New this year - on the last Wednesday of each month, the ride will be a Day/Night ride, with lights required.

Note that there aren't any bathroom facilities. We offer 2 paces on a variety of routes on relatively lightly traveled roads. Most will have some hills. Will regroup as needed, but please be prepared to maintain the ride's advertised pace. We'll start by riding on the Schuylkill River Trail, and/or, the Cross County Trail, which connects the Schuylkill with Plymouth Meeting . A moderately hilly ride conquering 3 Main Line hills that regroups at the top of each climb. As the days lengthen, so does the ride and we should be nearing 30 miles by July. No riders doing the listed pace will be dropped. 50% chance of rain between 6:00 and 8:00 cancels the ride Cue sheets will not be available.

    Fri July 8, 2016 - Friday Frolic w/Linda and Jack - Special Edition for 7/8. Two distance options, from North Wales to Doylestown (32mi), or farther,.to Carversille (54mi)

    Level C/C+, B-, 12-13, 14-15 mph, 32 and 54 miles. Parkside Place Park, Sumneytown Pike in North Wales/Upper Gwynedd. The ride leaves at 9:15 am. The July 8th ride will have two ride leaders and choice of two distances! Ride 32 miles with Jack Elias. or 50+ miles with Linda McG. We will ride as one group for 14 miles to Central Park Doylestown ("CPD"), 8.5 miles of which will be on the scenic, smoothly-paved Route 202 Parkway Trail. After a brief rest stop at CPD, we will split into two groups: 1) ride 18 miles on-road (not on the Parkway Trial) back to Parkside Place Park with Jack (32), or 2) continue farther with Linda to Carversille (54). There is no food-store stop on Jack's route - bring a snack if you need it. Linda's group will make a lunch stop later in the ride. On the longer route with Linda, there will be a lunch stop at the Carversille Market at mile 28. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Scenic adventures by bike on most Fridays, throughout the year. Explore pretty, peaceful roads in suburban counties -- Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, etc. Starting points will vary, so that we can cycle through different regions. Please check the daily calendar for details of each Friday's route -- terrain, mileage, rest stops, etc. Cue sheets and on-line route map will be provided for each ride.     Level B-, 13.5-15 mph, 72 miles. Etra Lake Park, Disbrow Hill Rd, East Windsor, NJ. The ride leaves at 8:30 am. In a seashore state of mind? Today, we'll visit the central Jersey shore in Monmouth County, beaches more familiar to New Yorkers. This scenic route is popular with the Princeton FreeWheelers. In addition to cycling along Ocean Drive in the pretty seaside towns of Spring Lake and Belmar, we’ll also ride around Perrineville Lake, Manasquan Reservoir, and Lake Como. Lunch stop at Belmar Beach at mile 40, plus rest stops along the way, to and from Belmar. The middle of the route (near the beach) is flat. The beginning and end portions have very gently rolling hills, but nothing steep. We will stop to regroup as needed. Total elevation gain is 2265 ft. REVISED Directions to the starting point at Etra Lake Park: 1) New Jersey Turnpike North to Exit 8 – Hightstown/Freehold (NJ-133). Turnpike exit/toll lanes have been renovated and shifted..... 2) From the Turnpike exit ramp, quickly turn right onto Milford Rd. 3) In 1.1 miles, turn left at “T” at County Rd 571/Etra-Perrineville Rd. (Etra Lake will be on your left.) 4) In 0.2 miles, turn left at 3-way onto Disbrow Hill Rd. Parking lot will be on your left. Please allow 75 mins driving time from Phila. The trial is packed cinders and dirt. Continuing from there down the NJ side of the Delaware river and crossing back into Philly by the Ben Franklin Bridge.     Level B-/C+, 13-15 mph, 55 miles. Parkside Place Park, Sumneytown Pike, Upper Gwynedd/North Wales. This is across from the large Merck campus on Sumneytown. We'll meet in the parking lot opposite the public swimming pool.. The ride leaves at 9:15 am. For July 15: New route, scenic and pretty, from Parkside Place Park in Upper Gwynedd to the OWowCow Creamery in Wrightstown, Bucks County. The outbound portion will include the 202 Parkway Trail, and the return will include the Horsham Poer Line trail. At mile 12, we'll have a quick bathroom & snack break at the Del Val College Market on Lower State Rd in Doylestown. The ice cream & lunch stop is at mile 28. There is an organic food market near the creamery in the same complex. On the return, at mile 38, we can stop at Wawa for water, etc. The middle portion of this route is particularly green and peaceful, and crosses two creeks (Jericho and Neshaminy).     Level D, 10 mph, 45 miles. SEPTA Trenton Regional Rail Torresdale Station . The ride leaves at 9:15 am. If you have never cycled the Pennypack Trail from top to bottom now is your chance but from bottom to top. The city section is 9.5 miles from State Road to Pine Rd, Then the Lorimer Park Fox Chase Farm Trail to the Pennypack Trail along the old Fox Chase - New Town Rail Trail in Montgomery County. The Philly portion is paved, the Montgomery County portion is crushed gravel. We will go as far as the trail goes, taking on road route back to Torresdale Train Station. Bring food since I have never been above Pine Rd, not knowing any restraunts along the trail. For car free center city cyclists, take the SEPTA Trenton Line Regional Rail train # 9707 boarding from Jefferson Station, 8:40am, from Suburban Station, 8:45am, from 30th Street Station, 8:49am arriving at the Torresdale Station, 9:13am thus the ride start time of 9:15am. This ride is based on a route by Mike Krizauskas of BCP, SCU, and the Jersey Shore Cycle Club, originally planned to coincide with the Blueberry Festival in Hammonton, Blueberry Capital of the World. On this 107-miler, there will be rest stops at Batsto Park, Timberline Lake General Store, as well as in Little Egg Harbor and Tuckerton. The route, which is FLAT, will take us through blueberry farmlands, as well as quaint small towns in the Hammonton area. We'll cycle down to Lands End, that is, the end of the road at Great Bay. You'll see a wide menagerie of wildlife, as we cycle across the marshes toward the bay. You'll also see a facility along the bayshore which used to be a Coast Guard facility - it's now a marine research lab. Please note: we may have some headwinds, especially as we approach the bay. Mike will be leading a shorter route, 75 miles, with three rest stops. The 75-miler does not go to Land's End at Great Bay. It's the last Wednesday of the month - time to bring out the lights and ride some extra miles. The ride will start at 6:00 and continue for approximately 2 hours after sunset. Strong headlights and taillights required. Come out and join us for beautiful rides on low-traffic roads. One pace is offered: 13.5 - 14.5 mph. No one dropped, regroup as necessary.     Fri July 29, 2016 - Friday Frolic w/Linda. ICE CREAM ON A HOT DAY. UDHS to Tabora's in Chalfont. 9:30 start time, to give roads a chance to dry out,

    Level B-/C+, 13-15 mph, 55 miles. Meet at Upper Dublin High School. The ride leaves at 9:30 am. For 7/29: Pretty loop from Upper Dublin High School to Tabora's in Chalfont for lunch, as well as some creamy, frozen refreshment. Due to the weather forecast of the continuing heat wave, we;ll try to leave by 9:15 am. Cue sheets will be provided. Total elevation gain is 2755 feet, no extreme climbing. On the outbound, there are places to take a quick bathroom/snack break at mile 16. After lunch at Tabora's, we'll cycle around the perimeter of peaceful Lake Galena. On the return, there are optional Wawa stops if needed, at mile 38 (Colmar), or 44 (North Wales). GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Enjoy scenic adventures by bike on most Fridays, throughout the year. Explore pretty, peaceful roads in suburban counties -- Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, etc. Starting points will vary, so that we can cycle through different regions.     Level ALL are welcome Valley Preferred Cycling Center (the Velodrome), 1151 Mosser Road, Breinigsville, PA 18031 (Trexlertown). The ride leaves at 6:00 pm. MEMBERS APPRECIATION NIGHT: The first ten (10) members who contact the Leader by 5:00pm on Friday will receive FREE tickets for general admission seating. BCP will have a display tent in the plaza of the Valley Preferred Cycling Center (aka, the Velodrome) in Trexlertown, during the Friday Night Races, sponsored by Bicycling Magazine. Gates open for Happy Hour at 6:00pm, but the ACTUAL RACES DO NOT BEGIN UNTIL 7:30pm, allowing time to get there after work. BCP will be exhibiting here to promote our club's membership benefits, as well as rides and upcoming events. The racing program for 7/29 includes the chase for the Kieran Cup, and there will be family- and kid-friendly entertainment between races. There will also be a live band playing in the plaza during Happy Hour. General Admission tickets are $5/person. Every seat has a great view of the track. In addition to the Breakaway Cafe, there is a souvenir booth, where visitors can purchase Velodrome merchandise.     Level B-, 14-15 mph, 70 miles. Visitor Center of Monmouth Battlefield State Park, Route 33 Business, Manalapan, NJ. The ride leaves at 8:30 am. RESCHEDULED for Friday, August 5, due to rains & thunderstorms on Sunday, July 31. Picturesque adventure ride from Central NJ to Sandy Hook, a 1665-acre barrier peninsula which protrudes into the bay between NJ & NY. Sandy Hook offers a view of the Manhattan skyline, as well as 7 miles of beaches, a lighthouse, and a holly forest. Shortly before reaching the seashore, we'll stop at the Mt. Mitchell Scenic Overlook County Park, which includes a memorial to the heroes of 9-11. This county park provides a spectacular overlook of Sandy Hook Bay and the NYC skyline. The route to & from Sandy Hook will take us along the Navesink and Shrewsbury Rivers, as well as the Swimming River Reservoir. Beginning and ending portions of the route are rolling, with a few brisk climbs, but we will stop to regroup as needed. Total elevation gain is 2189 feet. Middle portion of the route (near and on the beach) is flat. Food stops at mile 25 and 45, + an optional Rita's Water Ice stop at mile 62, near the finish. DRIVING DIRECTIONS to the starting point (Visitor Center of Monmouth Battlefield State Park): 1) NJ Turnpike North to Exit 8/Hightstown & Freehold. 2) From Exit 8 ramp, turn right onto NJ-33 East/Franklin St. Stay on 33 East. 3) After crossing CR 527/Millhurst Rd, NJ-33 will split into Business and Expressway. Take the right-lane exit for 33 Business, then bear right at bottom of ramp for 33 Bus East. Look for sign for Monmouth Battlefield Visitor Center. Turn left into Visitor Center entrance. Parking lot is at the end of a long driveway. Please allow at least 75 mins driving time from Phila.     Level D, 10-12 mph mph, 15-25 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 12:00 pm. --- --- --- SUNSHINE --- THE RIDE IS ON! --- --- --- Join us for a Scenic Sunday D ride - a leisurely ride for novice riders and cagey veterans alike (OWLS). New riders and those new to Philadelphia are welcome. Today's ride will take us out to Manyaunk and over the Manayunk Bridge and up the Cynwyd Trail, where we'll stop for coffee, ice tea, and smoothies before coming back over the historic Strawberry Mansion bridge and pass the mansions of the East Park to return to the Art Museum. 10 miles out, 8 miles back -- all in less than 3 hours, including our cafe stop. Bring a helmet, tools to fix a flat tire (we will coach you on how to fix a flat if the occasion deflates), water, and a few dollars for our cafe stop. Cue sheets will not be available.
