Sun February 26, 2017 - Hike the Wissahickon

Hike intermediate hike, 6-8 miles miles. Meet at Valley Green Inn. The hike leaves at 9:30 am. Please join us on a hike in the beautiful Wissahickon Gorge of Fairmount Park. We'll be hiking mainly on trails and there will be some hills. If you need a shorter or less strenuous route at some point, we can direct you to the flatter Forbidden Drive. Hiking is easier with hiking boots or shoes and if conditions are icy, ice grippers are helpful. Well-behaved leashed dogs are always welcome. If you are parking on the Chestnut Hill side of the Valley Green Inn, park in the upper lot and do not leave valuables in your car.

Sun February 26, 2017 - Sunday Afternoon (Post-Hike) Winter Ramble Ride. This is the generic description. DEFERRED for 2/26 - Leader in VT, looking for snow. This ride will resume next Sunday, March 5.

Level C+/B-, 13-15 mph, 30-35 miles. Meet at Bruno's, Northwestern and Germantown Aves. The ride leaves at 1:20 pm. DEFERRED for 2/26 - Leader in VT, looking for snow. This ride will resume next Sunday, March 5. GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Scenic, 35-37-ish mile loop, usually through Montgomery County or Lower Bucks, with a brief rest stop. Unless otherwise stated, this winter afternoon ride will meet most Sundays at Bruno's Diner (finishing point for many of the Sunday morning Wissahickon hikes). Instead of Bruno's, we may on occasion meet at another location in Chestnut Hill. Even if you don't join the hike in the morning, you are welcome to cycle with us on this afternoon ride! We will stop to regroup if needed, but try as much as possible to maintain 13-15mph, due to short daylight. Plan is to return before 5:00pm. Please bring LIGHTS, just in case we return in the nick of time. Please ensure that your bike is ready before start time, so that we can leave promptly. Specific details will be posted for each Sunday's Route. Scheduled for EVERY Sunday throughout the winter (for the duration of the hiking season), weather permitting, EXCEPT Feb. 26. (Leader will be away cross-country skiing on 2/26). This ride will resume on March 5. If winter weather conditions are not conducive to cycling, this ride may be replaced by a snow activity, e.g., cross-country skiing or snow-shoeing. As long as we keep moving throughout the winter, we will maintain our base fitness level for the return of spring cycling in March. Cue sheets will be available.
