We are going to kick it up a notch with ~20 miles of hill training, but will cut the total ride short at 36 miles in lieu of the 40-50 miles we usually do. Level C, 13-13.5 mph, 30-35 miles. Meet at Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 9:20 am. We will return to the Art Museum area but for those interested we will proceed from there to the BCP kick-off BBQ. No food stops is planned since we expect to end at the BBQ. We will wait for those who fall back on hills and do our best not to drop anyone.

Sat April 26, 2014 - Back to the Trails!! Mountain Bike rides…continue!

Level C, 3-5/12-14 mph, 25-30 miles. Lincoln/Forbidden Drive trailhead parking area. The ride leaves at 10:00 am. , …well this one is actually, a “combo” ride…we will again meet at Lincoln/Forbidden Drive trailhead parking area. The ride leaves at 10:00 am. This remains a Beginner/No Judgments ride - goal is to build into something more and we are still building! This is a No Drop ride so we will be looking for the friendliest trails possible but be prepared to know where your skills are in relation to terrain (and when you need to walk a section). We will start on the trails of Wissahickon but since the BCP Spring Kick-Off is happening on the same day, we will be cutting our “play” time in the dirt a bit short and then head down to the BCP Spring KickOff event [ http://phillybikeclub.org/newbcp/events/kickoff2014.html ]. We will have bathroom breaks (Valley Green Inn and elsewhere as needed). AND NOTE: After our time on the trail we return to the start point, you would not be obligated to join us for the ride down to the BCP Kick-Off event After the Kick-Off event I will lead the group back to MLK Drive or to the Art Museum. Total mileage will be 25-30 miles. Muddy trail conditions or rain at 8:00 AM or an over 50% forecast for rain between 8:00am and noon cancels the ride. Check the web site for up-to-date information. Required: Mountain bike with knobby tires (please, no hybrids; your call for cyclocross bikes); a way to fix problems trailside (spare tube(s), pump, patches, multi-tool or allen wrench and chain tool); cash for snacks; trail permit; ...a sense of humor optional but strongly recommended... Sun April 27, 2014 - Ringing Rock Park

Level B-ish, 15.5 - 16.5 mph, 58 miles. Meet at Whites Road Park between Broad St and Valley Forge Rd, Lansdale. The ride leaves at 8:45 am. We're off to Ringing Rock Park in Pottsgrove to see the basaltic rocks that intruded into the surrounding red shale. A hammer is best to hear the sounds (different hammers will produce different sounds when hit against the same rock - wow!) but since that's impractical riders may wish to bring their favorite bike tool. I'm not sure that'll be sufficient to produce sound but it's worth a try. Rolling hills with a few climbs. We'll regroup as necessary but please be prepared to maintain the average pace. Rest stop at Wawa just after Ringing Rock Park. Please consider using the pre-registration facility. If interested in cue sheet please e-mail me.
