February, 2012 WEEKLY RIDES & GENERAL RIDE DESCRIPTIONSBCP offers regular weekly rides. Below is a general description of the weekly rides, with pace, mileage, starting time, location, and leader or coordinator. The weekly rides are also listed by date in the Monthly Ride Calendar which you should check for specific ride leaders and any additional information on the ride. Information about starting locations is available on our Ride Guide page which is found under the rides menu item. Sundays Valley Forge Winter Ride - Sunday Edition. 9:00 AM. . Class B, 14 mph, 35 miles. Start at Valley Forge National Park - Betzwood Picnic Area (by the bathrooms). Every Sunday through March for a ride from Valley Forge to Harleysville. Indoor coffee break at the Hennings Market in Harleysville. Plan is to be back in VF by noon. Leader: Richard L. Wagner, 215-410-1331, . Hike the Wissahickon. 9:30AM. We meet at 9:30 AM and usually do 5-7 miles over mostly trails with flat options. The majority of the hikes begin at the Valley Green Inn, but check the Monthly Ride Calendar because a hike might start at any site accessing the Wissahickon. Because of the condition of some of the trails after the recent hurricane and floods, hiking shoes are recommended. We often go to a local eatery afterward for lunch. Directions to the Valley Green Inn: From Germantown Ave., turn onto Springfield Ave. (right from the suburbs, left from the city) across from Wissahickon Cyclery. After about a mile, bear right at the fork. Please park in the upper lot, and walk down to the Inn. From Henry Ave., turn onto Wise's Mill Rd. (left from the suburbs, right from the city). Coordinator: Debbie Hoellein, 215-833-5545, . Sunny Sunday Afternoon D Ride and Instructional Ride. 12:00 PM. Casual ride, well-suited for improving skills and group riding. Instruction provided as needed. Distance and speed will be dictated by the abilities of the group, and we will re-group as needed. No one is left behind. Check the Calendar on the website for weekly details and contact info for the ride leader or call Bonnie Prest-Thal (718-344-2977), the D Ride Coordinator. You must wear a helmet; bring something to eat and drink; and check your air pressure on your tires and pump them if needed before you come to the ride. Bring an extra tube for your tire. Meet at the Italian Fountain, near the pergola entrance to the Azalea Garden. Coordinator: Tom Witt, 215-665-5578, . Tuesdays MTB on the Pennypack Trails. Class C+/B-. Starts from the Pine Road entrance to Pennypack Park. Come enjoy the great outdoors (without cars) after dark! Lights and a trail permit are required (go to www.fairmountpark.org/TrailPermits.asp to purchase a permit). We ride off-road on dirt trails for approximately 1-1/2 hours. Depending on the predicted weather and/or trail conditions, the ride may be cancelled or rescheduled for another evening. Additionally, the ride will occasionally take place at Wissahickon Park.
