Occasionally, ad-hoc rides are announced. These rides are sent by email to all members of the BCP email list. To join this list, click here.     Delightful, Delicious D (and D+/C-) Ride, Saturday Edition

    Level D/D+/C-, 8-13 mph, 19-24 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 10:00 am. Cue sheets will be available.

    Anyone for hot coffee, tea, or cocoa, mixed with warm conversation? Let's head west/NW toward the Main Line, at an easy, relaxed pace, in search of a welcoming cafe. We will climb a few hills here & there, but slow & gentle climbing (or walking up hills) is perfectly fine on this ride. We'll stop to regroup as often as needed. Cue sheets will be provided, but the route can be adjusted as needed. Ride is cancelled in the event of rain/snow/ice/slick roads, or if the temperature at start time is less than 28 deg F. PLEASE CONTACT the LEADER AHEAD of TIME, if you plan to join this ride. Also, please contact the Leader if you have questions, e.g., proper layers of clothing. Preregistering (click on the "Preregister" link here) is not required, but will save you time at the ride start.


    Saturday C+ Ride

    Level C+, 13-14 mph, 40-50 miles. Meet at Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 10:00 am.

    MontCo Meander (ad-hoc ride)

    Level B-, 14-15 mph, 38 miles. Ft. Washington St. Park Hawk Watch Parking Lot. The ride leaves at 10:00 am. Cue sheets will be available.

    Join me as we meander around Montgomery County a bit. We'll head up towards N. Wales, and then down to the Norristown Farm Park and the Schuylkill River Trail before heading back to the start. Very quick bathroom break en route, no sit down lunch this time. Other than our time on the SRT, its mostly rolling hills with a few short climbs. Enter park from either Joshua Ave. north of Stenton Ave. or Militia Hill off Skippack Pike. Let me know if you are interested in co-leading at a slower or faster pace.

    Circle the Schuylkill (ad-hoc ride)

    Level C+/B-, 14+/- mph, 32 miles. Le Bus Restaurant at 4266 Main Street. The ride leaves at 8:30 am. Cue sheets will be available.

    This is a no drop ride from Main Street Manayunk to Devon via the Main Line. We will have a brief rest stop around mile 17 at the Whole Foods in Devon and return to Manayunk via Conshohocken. This is not a flat route, so we will stop and regroup as needed. Email me for parking options in Manayunk. Email if you plan to ride - no email, no ride.


    The Hennings Market Ride

    Level B/C, 13.5 mph, 53 or 35 miles. Meet at Valley Forge National Park - Betzwood Picnic Area (by bathrooms). The ride leaves at 9:15 am. Cue sheets will be available.

    From Valley Forge to Hennings Market in Harleysville. Riders will then have the option of returning to VF (35 mile route) or doing an extra 18 mile loop through central Montgomery County,back to Hennings, then returning to VF (53 mile route). Unless someone volunteers, there will not be a "C" leader. Accurate cue sheets will be provided for all.


    Hike the Wissahickon

    Hike Hike, 3 +/- mph, 6 +/- miles. Valley Green Inn (see the Weekly Ride Calendar for directions). The hike leaves at 9:30 am.

    Sunny Sunday "D" ride Holiday Tour of the Historic Fairmount Park Houses

    Level D, 10-12 mph, 19 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 12:00 pm. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Plan your visit to the Historic Houses of Fairmount Park for their annual Holiday Tours. Six renowned Fairmount Park Houses put on their holiday finery and open their doors to the public for tours and special events. Cedar Grove, Laurel Hill, Lemon Hill, Mount Pleasant, Sweetbriar, and Woodford Mansion The ride will visit three of the houses on this year's tour, We'll decide on the day of the ride which ones stop at. Rain, Snow, or temps below freezing will cancel the ride. Bring cash, locks, Pump up the tires, and wear your helmet. Cost is $5 per person, per house.


    Sunday C Spin Off

    Level C, 25-35 miles. Meet at Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 12:15 pm.

    Post-Hike Sunday Afternoon Short Loop (ad-hoc ride)

    For hiker-bikers who enjoy the Sunday morning hikes in the Wissahickon -- this allows you to have your hike and bike it, too. 29-mile loop from Bruno's to Ardmore, returning via Conshohocken. Terrain is rolling, with a couple of long climbs, but we will stop to regroup as needed. Short rest break at the Farmers Market and/or Trader Joe's in Ardmore at mile 18. Please make sure that your bike is ready (tires inflated, etc.) before starting time. Please bring lights, just in case we are delayed on our return.

We ride off-road on dirt trails for approximately 1-1/2 hours. Depending on the predicted weather and/or trail conditions, the ride may be cancelled or rescheduled for another evening.     Let's enjoy a scenic loop in eastern Montgomery County, around Towamencin, Lansdale, and Gwynedd. Mostly rolling terrain, with a few brisk climbs, but very pretty roads. We will stop to regroup as needed. Route includes two rest stops -- Merrymead Farm on Valley Forge Road, and the Whole Foods in North Wales.     Ridley Creek State Park

    Level C, 12 mph, 50 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 8:00 am. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Let's ride again out to Ridley Creek State Park in Delaware Country. We will do the full loop around in the the park. We will also see where the Youth Hostel was located. We will have a second breakfast in Oakmont which should keep the body warm and the belly satiated the rest of the ride but bring a snack just in case and we will stop for hot chocolate on the way home. There will be a different route back and less hilly! There are a few hills to build character on the way out with that one climb in the park itself!. Rain or snow or snow/ice on the road cancels ride one hour before to ride start.


    Main Line Cycles Saturday Brisk Ride (ad-hoc ride)

    Level B+, 16-17 ave. mph, 40+ miles. Meet at Main Line Cycles back parking lot, Narberth, PA. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Nice roads with lots of rolling hills and a few climbs. We head out from Narberth, go through Bryn Mawr and out towards Paoli. At Waynesborough Country Club, we head south on some of the best roads in the area. We go back through Villanova, Gladwyne, Belmont Hills and Bala Cynwyd. No one gets dropped. Brief stop halfway. Weather forecast shows 10% change of rain, but cold with a high of 40 deg. Snow, ice or rain cancels.

    Let's enjoy climbing some trails in Valley Green. There will be a flat option available for part of the hike. From the meeting point, we'll walk a few blocks through residential streets in Chestnut Hill, to access the trail on Crefeld St. Streets & homes in Chestnut Hill should be decorated for the holidays! Well-behaved canine hikers are warmly welcome to join us. The charming Rich Terry will be our Co-Leader. Optional group lunch after the hike.

    For those of you who are looking for a slightly faster pace than my Saturday ride come out and join me on Sunday. We'll be starting from Betzwood picninc area right off the SRT. This will be a recurring, once a mid-month ride.

    48 mile Flourtown to Riverton,NJ: Zena's Soup Ride!

    Level B-/B 13-15mph, 13-15 mph, 48 miles. Meet at Flourtown Shopping Center. The ride leaves at 10:00 am. Cue sheets will be available.

    We'll travel across the Tacony Palmyra Bridge to Riverton,NJ and the Riverton Yacht Club on the Delaware. We'll stop at "Zena's" in Riverton for a sit-down lunch. Last year we had the most delicious soup at Zena's! We'll head back to Flourtown via C.C. Philly passing first thru the little communities of Tacony,Bridesburg and Fishtown that run along the Delaware River. We'll see some historic buildings along the way.Q sheets provided for faster and slower riders.


    Palmyra Cove Nature Park

    Level D, 10 mph, 30 miles. Penn Treaty Park, N. Delaware Ave and N Beach St. Just North of Frankford Ave and N. Delaware Ave.. The ride leaves at 10:00 am. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Ride up the River Wards of Philadelphia to Tacony where we will cross the Delaware River by walking per regulation across the Tacony Palmyra Bridge. Palmyra Cove Nature Park (PCNP) is 250 acres of green in a highly developed area on the Delaware River just south of the Tacony Palmyra Bridge. With its woodlands, wetlands, tidal cove and wild river shore line, PCNP serves as an important feeding site for migratory birds. The return will be on River Road through Delair, Pennsauken, and North Camden, NJ. We will portage our bikes up the three flights of steps on the Ben Franklin Bridge back into Philly! Pack a lunch for a cold picnic in the park. There is an indoor ENVIRONMENTAL DISCOVERY CENTER. Rain or snow or snow/ice on the road cancels ride one hour before to ride start.


    Saturday C+ Ride

    This ride will start in Manayunk and head toward Wayne and environs on typical rolling Main Line roads. We will stop to regroup as needed and there will be a short rest stop about 1/2 way through. We will head back to Manayunk via the newly paved Cynwyd Trail. Parking on Main Street is free on Sundays.     Hike the Wissahickon

    Hike hike, 5-7 miles. Meet at Bruno's, Northwestern and Germantown Aves. The hike leaves at 9:30 am.

We will be doing a 44-mile loop along the Delaware River today, to take a quick peek at the borough of Bristol, a center of early manufacturing in the area, and famous for the 1961 Dovell's song, the "Bristol Stomp." We'll pass by the southern terminus for the 165-mile D&L Trail, and then grab lunch at mile 22 at the Golden Eagle II Diner, a past Best-of-Philly diner winner, before heading back to Philly.

    Yet another warm weekday, but who's complaining? If you can, why not join me on a ride to Rosenberger Dairy for an early lunch (or ice cream). Mostly flat to rolling terrain. Enter park from either Joshua Ave. north of Stenton Ave. or Militia Hill near Skippack Pike.


    Thursday Ride with Rob (ad-hoc ride)

    Level B-/C+, 13+- mph, 33 miles. Meet at Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 10:30 am. Cue sheets will not be available.

    This ride will go through Manayunk, River Rd, Hart's Lane, past Bruno's, up through Erdenheim, Willow Grove Ave, McCallum St Bridge, Walnut Ln Bridge, Henry Ave, and Kelly Dr bike path. No cue sheets, no stops. Steady pace so we get some training. Re-group at top of the big climbs. Cancellation or changes will be posted to this calendar by 8 am Thursday December 22.

    Bike tour of historic houses of worship of various denominations in Philadelphia: Center City, Northern Liberties, Fairmount, Society Hill, South Philly, University City, etc. Houses of worship should be decorated for the holidays. This route will make several stops at different historic landmarks. In the holiday spirit of peace & harmony, we'll include as many different traditions/denominations as possible. Route can be lengthened or shortened, depending on the weather. We will stop for an indoor rest break.

    Level C+, 13-14 mph, 40-50 miles. Meet at Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 10:00 am. Cue sheets will be available.

    Explore some peaceful, picturesque roads in Montgomery County, from Chestnut Hill, almost to Evansburg State Park, turning around at Eagleville. There will be an indoor rest stop at mile 19. We'll return via Norristown Farm Park & North Wales Rd. Rolling terrain with a few brisk climbs, but we will stop to regroup as needed.

    Valley Forge Winter Ride - Saturday Edition

    Every Saturday thru March for a ride from Valley Forge to Kimberton. Indoor coffee break at the Kimberton Wholefoods in Kimberton. Plan is to be back in VF by noon.

    Start through Penn Valley and Bryn Mawr. Then head towards Paoli until we get to Waynesborough Country Club. Then south until Goshen Road and go back through Villanova, Gladwyne, Belmont Hills and Bala Cynwyd. Lots of rolling hills and some climbs. Ride speed determined by slowest rider. No one get dropped. Bring a snack for a quick mid-ride break. There are no stores along the route. Rain, snow or ice cancels.
