UNLESS YOU SE SOMETHING DIFFERENT BY 6:30 A.M. TOMORROW MORNING, THE RIDE IS A GO. Expand your geographic horizons on this fantastic ride through the Hunterdon Plateau, High Bridge, Califon and thence the “Jersey Alps” to the Victorian seat of Warren County. Lots of ups and downs on the way out, including three extended climbs, with the beautiful (and unpaved) Columbia Trail thrown into the mix. Coming back, we'll follow mostly quiet, shaded, less hilly (but not all flat) roads paralleling the Delaware River through Foul Rift, Phillipsburg, Riegelsville and Milford. Bikely says 6,900’ of climbing. One or two brief water stops on the way out and an extended food/water stop in Belvidere at mile 41, but no “sit down” lunch unless the group is small enough. Potential for another stop in Philipsburg at mile 55 if conditions warrant. Gu, Cliff Bars or whatever gets it done for you are strongly recommended. Cue sheets with total and leg mileages. We will try to regroup briefly at key spots, but we will not be able to wait for extended periods. Be prepared to follow the cue sheet if you are ahead or behind. A self-guided bailout option that shortens the route by 12 miles and eliminates one of the big climbs will be offered. This one is worth the drive, and you will earn those burgers, brats and beers at the race the next day. I will start on time. Please arrive at least 15 min. early so you are ready to ride at 9 sharp. Parking in the lot may be tight, so I recommend carpooling. Bad weather (including excessive heat) cancels. Check this listing after 6:30 a.m. for a no-go message if the weather is questionable.
