Occasionally, ad-hoc rides are announced. These rides are sent by email to all members of the BCP email list. To join this list, click here.     New Year's Day Hot Soup Ride (ad-hoc ride)

    Level B-/C+, 13-15 mph, 47 or 37 miles. Meet at Ft. Washington State Park Hawk Watch Parking Lot. The ride leaves at 10:00 am. Cue sheets will be available. The on-line route map is http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2029031.

    Scenic loop from the Hawk Watch point of Fort Washington State Park to Wegman's Market in Warrington, for something hot and hearty, surrounded by warm companionship to begin the new year. Part of the outbound route will include the 202 Parkway bike path. Quick bathroom break at mile 18, indoor lunch stop is at mile 30. Rolling terrain with a few climbs, but nothing too steep -- total climbing 2700'. Stop to regroup as needed. No one dropped. This route will pass Upper Dublic High School both coming and going -- door to door service. Starting and finishing at UDHS will shave off about 10 miles (37-mile version). If you'd like to pick up the ride from UDHS, we should be at this point ~10:30am.Please contact the Leader if you plan on joining us at 10:30 at UDHS.


    Tuesday Morning Ramble

    Level C, 12.5 to 13 mph, 32+ miles. Meet at Whites Road Park between Broad St and Valley Forge Rd, Lansdale. The ride leaves at 10:00 am. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Count on this New Year's Day ride being a bit different from our regular Tuesday Morning Ramble. Our distance will be determined by how nasty the weather may be. We'll ride to an indoor warm spot for soup or something. Northern Montgomery County and/or Northern Bucks County. Bring snack and plenty of water. I will post to the listserve if cancellation is required by 8:00 A.M. We won't ride wet roads nor serious threat thereof.


    Conshohocken to Mummer's Parade

    Level D to C-, 8-14 mph, 25-30 miles. Meet at Jacobs Engineering Parking Lot. The ride leaves at 11:00 am. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Ride from Conshohocken to the Kimmel Center to watch the Mummer Parade. Will try to arrive when the String Bands will be performing. Will stop to regroup as necessary. It might be getting dark on the return trip, so bring lights (front and back). Riders will be given the option of returning to Conshohocken by Train instead of riding. There will be several places to get snacks.

    Meet at 6:00 pm for a prompt 6:15 roll out to the Art Museum and back. In addition to the usual helmet, headlight and taillight required. This ride will be every Tuesday unless the weather forces a re-schedule to Wednesday. If conditions change, cancellations or re-schedules will be made via list serves and websites no later than 4 pm the day of the ride. Depending on the number and riding preferences of those present, we will either split into pace groups or have a single group with a leader and a sweep. Nobody will dropped off the back. Hope to see you regularly through the winter. It sure beats waiting and wishing for the Spring.

    Phoenixville Dog Rides - Night of the Living Dog

    Level B-, 13-15 mph, 20-30 miles. . The ride leaves at 8:00 pm. Cue sheets will be available.

    Strap on the lights, wear your reflective clothing, be bright and garish, and come ride in the dark. We ride on roads with very little traffic.This ride leaves from the Reynolds Dog Park on Longford Road in Mont Clare, just across the river from Phoenixville.     202 Parkway Trail Night Ride

    Meet at 6:00 pm for a prompt 6:15 roll out. In addition to the usual helmet, a headlight and a taillight required. Rain, snow or potential temperatures below freezing will cancel. Cancellations posted no later than 4 pm day of ride. From the parking lot at Whole Foods (snacks and indoor potties!), we'll ride through neighborhood streets to cross Welsh Road at a light onto the Trail. We'll follow the Trail out to Doylestown, make a loop through some neighborhoods in the vicinity of Central Park then return via the Trail. Terrain is rolling, but there are no killer hills.     This is a scenic and relatively flat-to-rolling loop to and from Hennings Market in Harleysville, on familiar, bike-friendly roads. Indoor rest stop midway at Hennings Market food court/cafe. Total elevation gain is 2400 ft -- just enough climbing to keep us warmed up. We will stop to regroup as needed. No one dropped. This ride will start and finish at the HAWK WATCH parking area of Ft. Washington State Park, accessible via Joshua Rd off Stenton, or, Militia Hill Rd off Skippack Pike.

    Great roads with low traffic. Narberth through Bryn Mawr and out to Waynesborough Country Club. Then south to Ridley Creek State Park. Back through Villanova (and Gladwyne if the group wants more hills). No one gets dropped. Speed determined by the group. Bring a snack for brief mid-ride break. Rain or snow cancels, but low temperatures and wet roads don't. Consider the on-line route approximate. Leave at 9:00AM.


    Valley Forge Winter Ride

    Level B, 13.5 mph, 35 miles. Meet at Valley Forge National Park - Betzwood Picnic Area (by bathrooms). The ride leaves at 9:00 am. Cue sheets will be available.

    Every Saturday thru March, we will ride to the 17.5 miles to Kimberton Wholefoods for an indoor coffee break. Then return 17.5 miles to Valley Forge. Plan is to be back in VF by noon.


    January's D Ride Progression - Out Bound Station

    Level D, 10 mph, 25 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Come cycle each Saturday in January, a little bit farther and a little bit faster and become a little bit stronger and a little bit more confident cyclist. This Saturday's ride is to the Out Bound Station Cafe on the Schuylkill River Trail in Conshohocken, 25 miles total, next Saturday's D ride is to Bridgeport, across the Schuylkill River from Norristown, 35 miles and the next Saturday's D ride is to Betzwood rest area on the north side of Valley Forge National Park, 45 miles and the last Saturday's D ride is to Phoenixville, 55 miles. There four Saturdays in a row of D rides, each a little longer! Challenge yourself to do them all! You get extra merit because these rides are only cancelled if it is snowing or raining one hour before start time. So bundle up, and spin those legs to fire up the body heater!


    Ride to Skippack for pizza (ad-hoc ride)

    Level C+/B-, 13-14 mph, 40 +/- miles. Meet at Upper Dublin High School. The ride leaves at 9:30 am. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Shorter ride - back by 2 PM so that you have plenty of time to get ready for the SCU banquet tonight. Some hills, nothing terrible, regroup as needed. Dress warmly and in layers.     Flourtown to Newtown via Tyler State Park. 2 mileage options -- 10am from Ft. Washington State Park, 10:30 from Upper Dublin High School

    Pretty loop from Flourtown/Fort Washington into Bucks County, to Newtown via trails in Tyler State Park, crossing Neshaminy Creek. Indoor rest stop (choice of eateries) at mid-way point. Optional quick stop on the return at mile 35. Rolling terrain with a few brisk climbs, but we will stop to regroup as needed. Total climbing 2700 ft. No one dropped. Winter rules in effect - modest pace. This route will also pass Upper Dublin High School. Starting & finishing at UDHS will shave off ~8 miles (41-mile version). After leaving Ft. Washington, we should be at USHD by 10:30.


    Saturday C+ Ride

    Level C+, 13.5 mph, 47.4 miles. Meet at Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 10:15 am. Cue sheets will be available.

    Come join us in honoring the 101st anniversary of explorer Robert Scott's bravery on a much shorter and pleasant hike in the Wissahickon Gorge. Watch out for speedy Norwegians! Flat option out. Friendly four-leggers welcome. Optional lunch somewhere nearby afterwards.

    We don't know where we are going, but we sure know where we've been. If you are a decent rider and don't mind the unknown, this is a great ride. We often make it up as we go but expect a fair amount of climbing (about 1500 feet), maybe a lunch stop OR post-ride beers, a 1-2 pm finish time and good conversation. Over 30% chance of rain, possible hurricane, snow storm, earthquake or wet roads cancels the ride.


    Sunny Sunday Afternoon D Ride

    Level D, 8-12 mph, 16-20 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 12:00 pm. Cue sheets will not be available.

    For hiker-bikers who enjoy the Sunday morning Wissahickon hikes -- this allows you to have your hike and bike it, too. Starting temperature will be warmer by this time of day. 30-mile loop from Chestnut Hill to Warminster and Huntingdon Valley, returning via Willow Grove & Roslyn. Rolling terrain, with a few brisk climbs, but we will stop to regroup as needed. Total climbing is 1877 ft. No one dropped. Short indoor rest break at mile 17. Please make sure that your bike is ready (tires inflated, etc.) before starting time, and bring lights, just in case we are delayed on our return.


    Sunday Afternoon (Post-Hike) Winter Ramble Ride (General description -- specific details will be posted for each Sunday)

    Level C+/B-, 13-15 mph, 30+/- miles. Meet at Bruno's, Northwestern and Germantown Aves. The ride leaves at 1:21 pm. Cue sheets will be available.

    Scenic, 30-ish mile loop, usually through Montgomery County or Lower Bucks, with a brief rest stop. Unless otherwise stated, afternoon ride will meet at Bruno's (finishing point for many of the Sunday morning Wissahickon hikes). Even if you don't join the hike in the morning, you are welcome to ride with us! We will stop to regroup as needed, but try as much as possible to maintain 13-15, due to short daylight. Plan is to get back before 5:00pm. Please bring lights, just in case we return in the nick of time. Please ensure that your bike is ready before start time, so that we can leave promptly. Specific details will be posted for each Sunday's Route. Scheduled for EVERY Sunday throughout the winter, weather permitting, EXCEPT Feb. 24 (Leader will be away 2/24). This ride will resume on March 3.

Relatively flat/gently rolling route, but will regroup as needed.

    OK. So last week really WAS too cold. But no excuses this week. Come out and enjoy the fabulous weather with a moderate paced ride to the Bean Hill area with a stop at the end at a great pastry shop in Ambler.

We will climb a few hills here & there, but slow & gentle climbing (or walking up hills) is perfectly fine on this ride. We'll stop to regroup as often as needed.     Come cycle each Saturday in January, a little bit farther and a little bit faster and become a little bit stronger and a little bit more confident cyclist. This Saturday's ride is to Betzwood rest area on the north side of Valley Forge National Park, 45 miles and the last Saturday's D ride is to Phoenixville, 55 miles. There two Saturdays in a row of D rides, each a little longer! Challenge yourself to do them all! You get extra merit because these rides are only cancelled if it is snowing or raining one hour before start time. So bundle up, and spin those legs to fire up the body heater!

    Scenic, 30-ish mile loop, usually through Montgomery County or Lower Bucks, with a brief rest stop. Unless otherwise stated, afternoon ride will meet at Bruno's (finishing point for many of the Sunday morning Wissahickon hikes). Even if you don't join the hike in the morning, you are welcome to ride with us! We will stop to regroup as needed, but try as much as possible to maintain 13-15, due to short daylight. Plan is to get back before 5:00pm. Please bring lights, just in case we return in the nick of time. Please ensure that your bike is ready before start time, so that we can leave promptly. Specific details will be posted for each Sunday's Route. Scheduled for EVERY Sunday throughout the winter, weather permitting, EXCEPT Feb. 24 (Leader will be away 2/24).     Come cycle each Saturday in January, a little bit farther and a little bit faster and become a little bit stronger and a little bit more confident cyclist. This Saturday's ride is to Phoenixville, 55 miles. There the last of four Saturdays in a row of D rides, each a little longer! Challenge yourself to do them all! You get extra merit because these rides are only cancelled if it is snowing or raining one hour before start time. So bundle up, and spin those legs to fire up the body heater! Will you have done all four? Are you feeling a little bit stronger and more confident? Then come on February's C Ride Progression, next month!
