We'll do some climbing, but there will be a flat option along Forbidden Drive, on the return. Well-behaved, four-legged canine hikers are welcome to join us. Rest stop at mile 21 - choice of eateries - Wawa, pizzaeria, etc.. Total elevation gain 1870 feet of climbing. Leader will be riding her knobby-tire (heavy) bike, in case of icy patches here and there. GOOD NEWS: Days are gradually getting longer - we still have light after 5:00pm. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Scenic, 30-35-ish mile loop, usually through Montgomery County or Lower Bucks, with a brief rest stop. Unless otherwise stated, this winter afternoon ride will meet at Bruno's Diner (finishing point for many of the Sunday morning Wissahickon hikes). Even if you don't join the hike in the morning, you are welcome to cycle with us on this ride! We will stop to regroup if needed, but try as much as possible to maintain 13 mph, due to short daylight. Plan is to return before 5:00pm. Please bring lights, just in case we return in the nick of time. Please ensure that your bike is ready before start time, so that we can leave promptly. This ride will easily beat anything you can do on an indoor trainer. Don't lose that great conditioning just because it's darker now - seize the night and join the fun. Thank Goodness they keep opening new locations of Panera - we'll have a steady supply of bike routes! Today's outbound route will take us through Oreland, Jenkintown, and Bryn Athyn. We return from Trevose via Somerton, Rockledge, and Glenside. Indoor rest stop at Panera at half-way mark. Total elevation gain 2995 feet. We will stop to regroup as needed. No-one dropped, but we will try to maintain 13mph, as advertised. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Scenic adventures by bike on most Fridays, throughout the year. Explore pretty, peaceful roads in suburban counties -- Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, etc. Starting points will vary, so that we can cycle through different regions. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Scenic, 30-35-ish mile loop, usually through Montgomery County or Lower Bucks, with a brief rest stop. Unless otherwise stated, this winter afternoon ride will meet at Bruno's Diner (finishing point for many of the Sunday morning Wissahickon hikes). Even if you don't join the hike in the morning, you are welcome to cycle with us on this ride! Doors open at 6:00pm for socializing and refreshments, and the program begins at 6:30pm. Wissahickon Hall is the large, stately, gray stone building directly across the street from the tennis courts of Philadelphia Cricket Club.
