Occasionally, ad-hoc rides are announced. These rides are sent by email to all members of the BCP email list. To join this list, click here.     Friday Frolic w/Linda. NO FROLICKING ON 5/1 - Leader is leading the Spring-n2-Cycling Weekend in Danville, PA. The "regular" Friday Frolic will resume next week, May 8.

    Level B-/C+, 13-15 mph, 45-55, +/- miles. Various starting points -- please check the daily . The ride leaves at 9:30 am. Cue sheets will be available.

    GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Enjoy scenic adventures by bike on most Fridays, throughout the year. We'll explore pretty, peaceful roads in suburban counties -- Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, etc. Starting points will vary, so that we can cycle through different regions. Depending on the destination, starting point may be in Conshohocken, Flourtown, Jenkintown, Wayne, Valley Forge, etc. Please check the daily calendar for details of each Friday's route -- terrain, mileage, rest stops, etc. Cue sheets and on-line route map will be provided for each ride. Scheduled for virtually every Friday throughout the year, with a few exceptions here & there. If weather conditions are not conducive to cycling, this ride may be replaced by a hike/walk (on foot). As long as we are enjoying outdoor physical exercise, and Mother Nature, in the company of friends, we'll have a memorable outing.

    Our first ride of Spring Weekend. Short distance will allow us plenty of time to get back to the hotel for the evenings activities.Only 1600' of elevation gain, so not too strenuous. No food stop.One water break about half way thru route.

    Great roads with low traffic. Narberth through Bryn Mawr and out to Waynesborough Country Club. Then south to Ridley Creek State Park. Back through Villanova (and Gladwyne if the group wants more hills). No one gets dropped. Speed determined by the group. Bring a snack for brief mid-ride break. Rain cancels. Consider the on-line route approximate. Leave at 8:30 AM.


    Loop Around the Airport

    Level D, 30 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Did you know that there is a back road that goes around the back of Philadelphia International Airport? This route will take us past Bartrum"s Gardens and Fort Mifflin. Once around back of the airport, we will return over Bartrum Ave and Passyunk Ave passing the most scenic auto junk yards on the right and the Auto Mall on the left. We will take the side walk over the Passyunk Bridge and up 22nd St . Rain one hour prior to start cancels.

    Riding to West Point

    Level B+, 16-17 mph, 60-65 miles. Meet at Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Rolling to hilly route through scenic Chester and Berks Counties, crossing the Schuylkill River to Pottstown our way to the Sly Fox Festival & Goat Race at mile 43.     Bring yer bike and sense of adventure.posted pace. Today we'll ride towards Peace Valley (quick bathroom break at Tabora's) before looping around to West Point (stopping for pizza). Mostly flat to rolling, other than two hills approaching Peace Valley (one short and moderately steep, one long but not steep). Very scenic ride on mostly low-trafficked roads. Will regroup as needed (particularly at the top of hills), but please be prepared to ride the advertised pace. Check day of the ride if weather is iffy (rain cancels).


    Tuesday Night from North Penn High School

    Level C+/B-, 13-15 mph, varies miles. North Penn High School - meet behind the school near the bus depot. The ride leaves at 6:00 pm. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Bulldog ride

    Level B, 15 mph, 30-34 miles. Meet at Bulldog Statue, 25th St. and Pennsylvania Ave.. The ride leaves at 6:00 pm. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Starts at the Bulldog. Ride north thru the park,cross Germantown Ave to Stenton Rd. We take the bike trail from Coonshocken home. No rest stops. No B rider will be dropped. Length of ride is determined by how much day light we have.

Check the monthly calendar for possible changes or cancellations (rain cancels), and if a certain pace is not available.

Please note: One Wednesday per month (usually the second Wednesday), Linda cannot lead this ride, due to the BCP Board meeting. Linda will try to arrange another leader for this ride on Board meeting nights.

As riders get stronger, we can turn off the trails and explore some pretty roads in the area. Please bring lights in case we return close to dark.


    Thursday Night Hill Ride

    Level B-/C+, 13.5-15 mph, 25-30 miles. Meet at Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 6:00 pm. Cue sheets will not be available.

    A moderately hilly ride conquering anywhere from 3 to 5 Main Line hills that regroups at the top of each climb. As the days lengthen, so does the ride and we should be nearing 30 miles by July. No riders maintaining the listed pace will be dropped. 50% chance of rain between 6:00 and 8:00 cancels the ride. Head and taillights are helpful as we will be returning around dusk.

    For May 8: Pretty route from Upper Dublin High School (Ft. Washington) to charming Carversville in Bucks County. Outbound via Spring House, Warrington, & Doylestown. Return via Lahaska, Horsham, & Maple Glen. Rolling terrain with a few brisk climgs, but nothing too steep. Total elevation gain is 2366 feet. Quick rest stop (bathroom break) at mile 16 at Doylestown Central Park, then a lunch stop at Carversville General Store at mile 27. On the return, we have an optional Wawa stop at mile 46. We will stop to regroup as needed. No one dropped, but we will try to maintain at 13mph, as advertised. Plan is to return by ~3:00pm.     A friendly ride that regroups as necessary for riders capable of keeping the advertised pace. We will average 14-15 MPH over the entire ride (faster on flats, slower on hills, this is why it is called an average) and there will be approximately 1800' of climbing.     I will be leading a class of cyclists who are new to group riding. The route will travel to Phoenixville where we visit the Farmers Market www.phoenixvillefarmersmarket.org/ and the Schuylkill River Heritage Center www.phoenixvillefoundry.org/ There will be a short session of parking lot maneuvering drills at the beginning of the ride. All are invited to join us as we introduce solo riders to bicycling with a group. One of life's more enjoyable activities, when done right. Route will be on paved trails and roads.

We will ride the seven miles from Eagleville Park to Fischer's Park, rendezvous with the Mother's Day riders, ride the 49 mile route to Q'town back to Fischer's as one group, then ride the seven miles back to Eagleville Park.     We will traverse central Montgomery County, PA on our way to the Wawa near the Quakertown exit of the PA-Tpk, then, avoiding the steep climbs near Green Lane Park, we return to Fischer's via Upper Salford Park. ~3200' elevation gain, so, not too strenuous. One food stop & one quick water break.

Cycle across the campus of Cabrini College, cross some peaceful creeks and ride past serene landscapes and pretty countryside. We'll also pass Cheyney University. Total elevation gain 3500 ft of climbing. We will stop to regroup as needed. No one dropped, but we will try to maintain 13mph average, as advertised. Convenience store quick stop at mile 17. Indoor, sit-down lunch stop at mile 32 at the large and popular Whole Foods Market in Glen Mills. On the return, we have an optional Wawa rest stop if needed at mile 42. Explore pretty, peaceful roads in suburban counties -- Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, etc. Starting points will vary, so that we can cycle through different regions.     This challenging, but invigorating and scenic adventure ride is based on popular routes used by BCP Dave, the Central Bucks Bike Club, the Princeton Freewheelers, and the 2012 Ride of Dreams for Neighborhood Bike Works. Cycle on some very pretty roads (mostly quiet & peaceful, too) in Hunterdon and Warren Counties. From Frenchtown, cycle along the Nishisakawick Creek and the Raritan River** (**2-mile stretch along the river with hard-packed fine gravel - bike-able). Cycle past Sky Manor Airport and Spruce Run Reservoir. Formidable amount of climbing, most (but not all) in the first half of the ride. Total elevation gain is 4300 feet. Please click on the map link to view the elevation profile. The first rest stop is at mile 26, before climbing farther north into Warren County. Sit-down lunch stop at mile 46. The return (southbound) route will be less challenging. Optional convenience store stop on the return at mile 62, in the town of Alpha. In addition to quaint small towns, you’ll see wide-open green countryside. Please bring plenty of fluids, energy snacks, and sunblock. We will stop to regroup as needed, e.g., at major turns, tops of climbs. Bringing a CUE SHEET CLIP is highly recommended, in order to keep your cue sheet handy.     This mostly flat ride along the Delaware Bay is based on a route byTom Hammell of the Princeton Freewheelers, and author of the book “Road Biking in New Jersey”, as well as roads used by BCP Dave and the Jersey Shore Cycle Club. Cycle through quaint small towns in Cumberland County, NJ, across placid lakes, rivers and ponds, past beaches and a wildlife refuge filled with waterfowl, and the East Point Lighthouse. Pass the tranquil Lake Nummy in Belleplain State Forest. Total elevation gain is only 574 feet. In lieu of hills, we should expect headwinds. We will have long continuous stretches without slowing or stopping. We have Wawa rest stops at mile 20 and mile 43, as well as a sit-down lunch stop at mile 61. Please bring plenty of fluids, energy snacks, and sunblock. Bringing a CUE SHEET CLIP is highly recommended, in order to keep your cue sheet handy.     Explore the SRT to Reading

    Level C distance, D speed, 9-13 mph, 90 miles. Elm Street Septa Station in Norristown (end of the line). The ride leaves at 8:30 am.

    Explore the SRT from Norristown to Reading. The trail has paved, crushed stone, and some on road riding. The sections in spring are beautiful. Occasional hawks and sparkling glimpse of the Schuykill make this an enjoyable challenging ride. There is a train from 30th St. Station to Elm Street Station in Norristown that leaves at 7:26. Bring water, helmet, sunscreen, extra tubes for tires, some snacks, lights for the bike in case it is getting dark on the return trip, and $ for a stop at the Peanut Bar in Reading and will stop for a late brunch as well as other locations as needed. There are some climbs but will regroup at the top. OWLS pace will be utilized.


    Mostly Flat Century+ on Maryland's Eastern Shore (w/short-cut options available)

    Century trek on mostly flat-to-gently-rolling roads from Chestertown, MD, north to Chesapeake City (along the C & D Canal), across the Mason Dixon line to quaint Middletown and Odessa, DE, then returning to Maryland's Eastern Shore. Cycle mostly on lightly traveled roads with wide shoulders. Total elevation gain is 2164 feet. We'll pass through charming small towns, and cross the scenic Sassafras and Bohemia Rivers. Rest stops available at mile 19 (Galena), 39 (Chesapeake City), 51 (Wawa in Middletown, DE), 61 (Wawa north of Odessa). On the return, we can stop in Galena again at mile 88. Stop to regroup as needed. No one dropped, but we will try to maintain 14mph, as advertised. SHORT-CUT OPTION: On the return, staying straight on 213 South directly to Chestertown will shave off several miles. Please note: in lieu of hill-climbing, we'll have HEADWINDS for part of the route. Please bring sunblock, due to minimal shade. Please allow at least 90 mins drive time from Philadelphia (I-95S to DE-1, DE-299W to US-301S into MD. US-301 to MD-291 to MD-213) . Ride will depart promptly at 8:30.

    Annual trek in search of horseshoe crabs engaged in their ancient mating ritual at East Point Lighthouse, thence inland and back out the bay for lunch in Fortescue at mile 45. Return is through Mauricetown, with its restored, 19th century sea captains' houses. Other highlights include a couple of wildlife management areas and the sandpits of S. Jersey. One intermediate water stop at mile 23. Flat route, but there are long stretches of rural, non-stop pedaling. Drive time from center city is about 50 minutes. Email for directions by noon the day before. This ride will start on time so plan your arrival accordingly. A go/no-go message will be added to this description by 6 a.m. the day of if the weather is questionable.

We will climb Umbria, River Road, Manor Road, Oak Street, Jones Road, Gypsy/Hollow, Barren Hill, then back over Umbria and into Manayunk for our only rest stop (at mile 35) for coffee (it's all about the coffee). Washington to Schwenksville. Outbound via North Wales and Harleysville, return via Evansburg and Blue Bell. On the outbound, we have a brief rest stop at Fischer's Park at mile 15. Lunch stop in Schwenksville at mile 28 - there will be a choice of eateries. On the return, there is a convenience store at mile 43. Total elevation gain 2850 feet. POST-RIDE TAILGATE PARTY to celebrate spring, as well as some birthdays. Leader will bring assorted snacks and soft drinks. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Enjoy scenic adventures by bike on most Fridays, throughout the year. We'll explore pretty, peaceful roads in suburban counties -- Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, etc. Starting points will vary, so that we can cycle through different regions. Please check the daily calendar for details of each Friday's route -- terrain, mileage, rest stops, etc. Cue sheets and on-line route map will be provided for each ride. If weather conditions are not conducive to cycling, this ride may be replaced by a hike/walk .     Please enter the park using the right hand side entrance (not the main parking lot entrance) and park on the grass. First in a series of rides leading up to the 4nd Annual Kitchen Sink Century in late Sept./early Oct. (combines some of my favorite rides, including this, into a century). This is our annual ride to Carversville Day, a fun, low-key small town festival. Expect scenic, low trafficked roads, mostly rolling hills (relatively flat for the area) and great company. Quick rest stops on the way out and return. Will regroup as need, but please be able to maintain the advertised pace - riders ahead of the group are on their own ride. Will hook up with a shorter version (51 miles) leaving from Upper Dublin HS (see separate listing). Check back for possible other paces. Sunday, May 31 rain date (but no festival).


    Main Line Cycles Brisk Ride

    Great roads with low traffic. Narberth through Bryn Mawr and out to Waynesborough Country Club. Then south to Ridley Creek State Park. Back through Villanova (and Gladwyne if the group wants more hills). No one gets dropped. Speed determined by the group. Bring a snack for brief mid-ride break. Rain cancels.     Level C+, 12-15 mph, 45 miles. Meet at Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 9:15 am. Cue sheets will be available.

    A friendly ride that regroups as necessary. Frequently, we go to Ambler, or points west such as Paoli, Devon, Malvern, or Wegman's in King of Prussia. Climbing will usually average around 2000'. Overall average speed should be around 14mph, and we'll maintain a speed of 15-16mph on flat terrain. Bring $ for a food stop at about the halfway point. No one will be dropped, but please be prepared to ride at the advertised pace. Wet roads or a 50% chance of rain cancels ride. PLEASE CHECK POSTING FOR CANCELLATION, WHICH CAN OCCUR UP TO 2 HOURS BEFORE RIDE IS SCHEDULED TO DEPART.

    Stromboli ride 30-40miles +/- Varied terrain

    Level C, 8 -13 mph, 40 + miles. Pawlings road and station ave pawlings trailhead. The ride leaves at 9:30 am.

    ride from pawlings trailhead to Marchiano's for Stromboli rest stop. Followed Then we head to main street. For a quick dessert. Next we head to the East Falls bridge which will take us to Martin Luther king Drive. We will take that to the Art Museum where we will pick up the SRT for the return ride. The map does not show the return ride.     Sunny Sunday D ride

    Level D, 9-12 mph, 14-24 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 12:00 pm. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Comfortable ride will join the Philadelphia Horticultural Society to Woodlands Cemetery and Bartram's Garden to examine notable trees. There will be refreshments at Bartram's Gardens. Bring helmet, extra tube, sun screen, water, and $ for snack stop. After the ride returns to the Azalea Garden an optional loop around Fairmount Park will be available. There might be a hill or two, but will stop to regroup at the top.


    Sunny Sunday C Spin-Off
