Leader: Clifford Schwinger, , 215-872-3559Of the more than 600,000 bridges in the U.S., more than 60,000 are rated as "structurally deficient". Several hundred of those structurally deficient bridges are in Philadelphia and Montgomery County - but the decay is usually not obvious when you ride over them. (Hint: When you see a vehicle weight limit sign on a bridge - that bridge is a structurally deficient.) On this ride we will examine infrastructure decay up close. We will also visit some interesting bridges that are new or restored, as well as some beautiful old bridges designed by Paul Cret (a famous Philadelphia architect). This scenic ride (yes, it really is scenic) will start at the Azalea Garden behind the Art Museum and meander 15 miles through center city. Included will be a journey down a little-known underground street in the heart of center city (yes, you will now know the "secret" entrance to this street), a stop where we will have a birds-eye view looking down at an amazing construction project, a ride underneath the subway (underneath the subway, not in it), a look at a 5,000 ton, 19th century church that 80 years ago was put on rollers and moved 40 feet, and of course lots of crumbling concrete and corroding steel. The weather forecast for Sunday is great! The only thing raining on us might be pieces of concrete. (only kidding - I think). Make sure your bike is in good condition. Bring a spare tube, water, and HELMET. You must wear a HELMET. The ride will be at a leisurely pace and we will be making plenty of stops. You should be comfortable riding on city streets. If you have any questions, email me or call. We will be back at the Art Museum by 12:30.

Level B-, 13-15 mph, 60+/- miles. Visitor's Center Parking lot - Valley Forge National Park. The ride leaves at 8:30 am. Cue sheets will be available.
Leader: Jay Sitkin, , 267-664-0939I now have some conflicts for Saturday which under normal circumstances I could handle by shortening the ride down to only 50 miles but on top of that I have been suffering with some C4 – C7 stenosis and bulging discs that has gotten quite painful. The length and particularly the amount of climbing on this ride is just too much for me to do right now without being miserable. I’ll reschedule it for sometime in September.
Berwyn Tandem ride

Leader: David C. Ziccardi, , 267-230-8995My favorite route in Hunterdon and Warren Counties to the town of Belvidere, with its restored Victorian houses and tidy town square in front of an old courthouse. The mostly shaded return is along the river through quiet enclaves with names like Foul Rift, Harmony Station and Carpentersville which were once served by the old “Bel-Del” Railroad. We’ll also pass a bridge that was designed and built by Roebling of Brooklyn Bridge fame. As you can see from the route map’s profile, the climbing is front loaded. 2840’ to lunch (Skoogy’s Deli) at the midway point, so portable nutrition and two water bottles are recommended. Less than half that amount of climbing on the second half of the ride. We’ll probably stop a second time around mile 50 to top off bottles. B- for pace, B for difficulty. Periodic regrouping at strategic points so everyone can enjoy the long climbs and thrilling descents at their own pace, but if you are consistently far off the back (or front) be prepared to navigate on your own. Due to its length, this ride it must start on time. Please arrive at the start by 8:30 a.m. at the latest. Email for directions by noon on Friday.

Look forward to special giveaways, as well as family-friendly entertainment. General Admission tickets are $5/person. Every seat has a great view of the track. There is a café in the Velodrome, as well as a souvenir booth. Come join us for an exciting evening! Driving directions and racing & venue details are available here: www.thevelodrome.com. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: If you are able to volunteer at the BCP tent, either for set-up (~5:15), or for staffing the booth and greeting visitors, or, for packing up at loading the van at the end of the evening, THANK YOU for your help. Please contact Linda, re. volunteering.
