Unfortunately the trip took somewhat longer than expected. Please meet Helen and I at the Valley Green Inn for an outing that will recreate the spirit of his extended voyage. Fire or police sirens heard on adjacent streets shall be as the seductive call of the Sirens of the island of Calypso. Our trekking poles shall serve as stakes to pluck the eye of any giant cave-dwelling Cyclops that threaten to eat our comrades in arms. We shall pass near dog walkers and the rushing waters of the Wissahickon as our hero did the six-headed beast Scylla and the whirlpool of Charybdis. However, instead of suffering fifteen years of mayhem and death at the hands of the Immortals, we will get only a morning of fresh air and exercise on the trail and maybe grab a bit of lunch afterwards. Leader: Linda McGrane, , 267-251-7862For 11/29: New, scenic route to Haverford and the Main Line, via Manayunk Bridge Trail and Cynwyd Heritage Trail. We'll also ride through the pretty campus of Haverford College, passing the Duck Pond. Quick rest stop for snack & bathroom at mile 19 in Haverford. Rolling terrain with a couple of brisk climbs. Total elevation gain 2398 feet. Outbound via Flourtown, Chestnut Hill, and Roxborough. Return via Bryn Mawr, Villanova, Conshohocken, and LaFayette Hill. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Scenic, 30-35-ish mile loop, usually through Montgomery County or Lower Bucks, with a brief rest stop. Unless otherwise stated, this winter afternoon ride will meet most Sundays at Bruno's Diner (finishing point for many of the Sunday morning Wissahickon hikes). Instead of Bruno's, we may on occasion meet at another location in Chestnut Hill. Even if you don't join the hike in the morning, you are welcome to cycle with us on this afternoon ride! We will stop to regroup if needed, but try as much as possible to maintain 13-15mph, due to short daylight. Plan is to return before 5:00pm. Please bring lights, just in case we return in the nick of time. Please ensure that your bike is ready before start time, so that we can leave promptly. Specific details will be posted for each Sunday's Route. Scheduled for EVERY Sunday throughout the winter (for the duration of the hiking season), weather permitting, EXCEPT Feb. 21. (Leader will be away cross-country skiing on 2/21). This ride will resume on Feb. 28. If winter weather conditions are not conducive to cycling, this ride may be replaced by a snow activity, e.g., cross-country skiing or snow-shoeing. As long as we keep moving throughout the winter, we will maintain our base fitness level for the return of spring cycling in March.

Its a route we can cut short a couple of miles, or a number of miles depending on how we feel (re temperature/wind/sun/clouds). Expect scenic and low trafficked roads, good company and rolling terrain (climbing Bean is the only real hill). Will regroup as needed, but please be prepared to ride the listed pace. Pizza stop for lunch unless the group prefers something else.
