Occasionally, ad-hoc rides are announced. These rides are sent by email to all members of the BCP email list. To join this list, click here.     Ride Yer Bike Tuesday

    Bring yer bike & sense of adventure. Some days we'll ride familiar favorite routes, other days we'll scope out new routes. Today we'll ride to Tabora's in Chalfont, and then on to Pizza Time Saloon in West Point. Lots of rolling hills, with the exception of Iron Hill (short but steep) and Callowhill (long but gradual), both on the way to Tabora's. Very pretty ride, lots of low traffic roads in the countryside. Will regroup as needed, but must be able to maintain the posted pace. Must be willing to ride safely & obey traffic laws. Note, just two paces today. Check day of the ride if weather is iffy (rain cancels). THE LAST RIDE OF THE MONTH STARTS FROM CENTRAL PARK, DOYLESTOWN AND NOVEMBER RIDES WILL BE AD HOC RE DAY OF THE WEEK AND START TIME.

    Pagoda in the Dark - C+/B-, 2245 ft climbing

    The Phoenixville day/night dog rides return with a special treat - a road trip to Birdsboro, to ride to the Reading Pagoda in the twilight. Strong headlights and taillights are required. This ride travels north from Birdsboro toward Reading, culminating in a climb up Mt Penn, past the Pagoda and Fire Tower, before descending back down to Birdsboro. Construction on the route has forced a detour which provides the opportunity for more climbing. No one dropped, regroup as necessary, but please be prepared to ride the advertised pace on rolling to hilly terrain. Precipitation cancels.

    Friday Afternoon Frolic w/Linda. UDHS to Centre Square, Gwynedd, and Whole Foods Market in Springhouse

    Leader has to work in the morning, so this will be an afternoon ramble. Pretty route through eastern Montgomery County. Quick rest stop for bathroom at Centre Square Park at mile 20, then, a food stop at Whole Foods Market in Springhouse at mile 31. Total climbing 2226 ft. Plan is to return by 4:30-5:00pm. PLEASE NOTE: Morning Departure for the Friday Frolic ride will resume on October 12. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Enjoy scenic adventures by bike on most Fridays, throughout the year. Explore pretty, peaceful roads in suburban counties -- Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, etc. Starting points will vary, so that we can cycle through different regions. Please check daily calendar for details of each Friday's route -- terrain, mileage, rest stops, etc. Cue sheets and on-line route map provided for each ride. If weather conditions are not conducive to cycling, this ride may be replaced by a hike/walk, or snow activity.     Early Bird Ride to Coffee in Ambler (ad-hoc ride)

    Level B: 15mph, 51 +/- miles. Meet at Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 8:00 am. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Assemble at 8:00. Depart at 8:05 SHARP! Ride through East Falls, Wyndmoor, Oreland, Fort Washington, Upper Dublin, Ambler, Plymouth Meeting, Sherry Lake, Manayunk, and Bala Cynwyd. Several hills but no killers. 30-minute coffee stop at Abyss in Ambler. (It's all about the coffee!). Will regroup at top of hills if necessary, but riders are expected to maintain posted speed (what our computers read upon ride completion). PLEASE PREREGISTER: saves time; ensures that I will be able to read important emergency info; and no problem if you change your mind and don't show up since we will not be waiting past the posted departure time.


    Main Line Cycles Brisk Ride

    Saturday B/B+

    Ride leaves promptly at 7:00 AM. Intentionally short (note that we go straight across Bethlehem Pike, onto Skippack, instead of making the right) and fast. Riders doing the listed pace will not be dropped (riders failing to keep pace by the turn onto McCallum are encouraged to break off then). There are five regroups on the map, all will be rolling. Where possible we will paceline. Back before 10am! Please pre-register, no worries if you change your mind later. 50% chance of rain between 7:00 AM and 10:00 AM cancels the ride.

    Hopewell Furnace Classic - CO-LEADER WELCOME

    An incredibly scenic ride through the Oley Valley in Berks County. Thanks to Rich Wagner for this picturesque route. Featuring the crossing of two covered bridges, Three rest stops. One at your standard convenience store. One at a great little deli/restaurant in the quaint town of Oley. And even one at a chocolatier. Terrain will consist of significant climbs for the first and last 15 miles. The middle 30 is rolling to flat. This will be one of the prettiest rides you will do this year. Cue sheets will be available. Total climbing 4176 feet. We will stop to regroup as needed. DRIVING DIRECTIONS to French Creek State Park: Take the Main PA Turnpike (I-76) West to the Downingtown Exit. This is two exits beyond (west of) the Valley Forge exit. After leaving the Turnpike, take PA 100 North/Pottstown Pike for 4 miles. You will pass through the town of Eagle. Turn left onto Conestoga Rd/PA-401 West. Stay on 401 West for 6 miles, then turn right onto PA-345 North/Bulltown Rd. Follow PA-345 North for 4 miles. There will be signs on 345 for French Creek State Park, and Hopewell Lake.     Sunny Sunday D Ride

    Level D: 9-12mph, 12-24 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 12:00 pm.

    OWLS (Older, Wiser, Longer, Slower) paced ride though Fairmount Park and beyond, depending on the group assembled. Please wear helmet (required by club). Bring extra tube, water, $ for mid ride3 snack. Smiles always welcomed. There might be a hill or two to help new riders increase endurance. No one will be dropped and time allowed to recover at top of hills. Some instructional advice for new riders.


    Sunny Sunday C Spinoff

    Phoenixville Day/Night Dog Ride

    Level C+: 13mph, 25-35 miles. Meet at Reynolds Dog Park, Longford Rd, Oaks, PA. The ride leaves at 6:00 pm. Cue sheets will not be available.

    The Phoenixville Dog Park rides will be day/night rides until daylight savings time ends. A strong headlight and taillight are required. The rides will begin in daylight and end in the dark. There will be approximately 2-2.5 hours of dark riding, so please plan batteries accordingly. These are beautiful rides on low-traffic roads. No one dropped, regroup as necessary, but please be prepared to ride the advertised pace on rolling to hilly terrain. Precipitation cancels.

    Mostly flat ride on the SRT from the back of the Art Museum to the Visitor Center at Valley Forge National Park and back. < 2 hours out, < 2 hours back, plus a stop for lunch at Pauline's in Norristown. If you're a Philadelphian who has never ridden past Manayunk, this is a chance to widen your horizons. A leisurely to moderate pace, with no riders left behind. Slow climb up to the ridge overlooking the Delaware River followed by a 5 mile flat section great for a pace line!. We'll then climb up to the reservoir. Sit-down lunch in Whitehouse Station, NJ after viewing the reservoir. Shorter and slower paced 30 and 45 mile ride groups available (see separate ride listings) that DO NOT visit the reservoir...     Shorter and very scenic "Flemington" loop that DOES NOT visit the Round Valley Reservoir, but heads to Flemington, NJ for lunch. Very scenic ride thru the backroads of Hunterdon County,NJ.     Slow paced (10-12mph), relaxed, off road, 30 mile round trip "canal" ride along one of the most scenic parts of the Delaware River. Perfect ride for road, hybrid or mountain bikes since the canal path is fine crushed gravel.The ride starts at the Holcomb-Jimison Farmstead rear parking lot in Lambertville,NJ and heads to Frenchtown,NJ where the group will have lunch at the Bridge Cafe adjacent to the Delaware River.This ride is part of the "Round Valley" series of rides but DOES NOT visit the Round Valley Reservoir (see separate "Round Valley Reservoir" ride listings).     Consider this the next step up from the Toss of the DIce "C+", further (50 - 70 miles) and with more hills (3000 - 5000). The average speed (measured at end of ride) is likely to be 14.5 - 15.5 mph, it is the hills that push this into the B category. This week we head to Valley Forge with a snack break at Devon Donut & Bagel Co.. 3.600 ft of climbing. We will regroup as needed, but riders are expected to ride group pace. One 30-minute coffee stop in Devon (Pour Richards) at mile 26 or so. (It's all about the coffee.) Will regroup at top of long hills as needed, but riders are expected to achieve advertised pace (which is what our computers read as "average" at the finish).     Let's attend the ribbon cutting for the opening of the Fairmount Water Works Trail and Boardwalk. Afterward we will cycle the Schuylkill Banks Trail to Bartrum's Garden to see the progress of building the ConRail Crossing swing bridge to connect the Schuylkill Banks Crescent with the Bartrum's Mile. We will have a coffee stop near the Cira Green, the roof top park between the evo Philly Cira Centre South and the FMC Corporation building and visit the park. From there we will cycle to the Discovery Center over looking Fairmont Park East Reservoir for a guided nature walk around the Discovery Center at 5:30 pm. Return time around 6:30 pm.

Optional quick rest stop at mile 20, then lunch stop at mile 28 at the new, huge, Whole Foods Market in Springhouse. Return via Gwynedd, Blue Bell, Plymouth Meeting, and the Schuylkill River Trail from Spring Mill to the finish. Total climbing is 2923 ft, and the terrain is mostly rolling. The final stretch on the SRT is flat. We will stop to regroup as needed. No one dropped, but we will try to maintain at least 13mph average, as advertised. Plan is to return before 3:00 - Leader needs to get to the Convention Center to set-up the BCP booth for the Bike Expo this weekend. MEETING POINT & PARKING: We will be meeting at the Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum, on Aquarium/Waterworks Drive. The parking here is timed, however, on the other side of Kelly Drive, Sedgley Drive has plenty of street parking without time limits. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Scenic adventures by bike on most Fridays, throughout the year. Explore pretty, peaceful roads in suburban counties -- Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, etc. Starting points will vary, so that we can cycle through different regions. Cue sheets and on-line route map will be provided for each ride. If weather conditions are not conducive to cycling, this ride may be replaced by a hike/walk (on foot). As long as we are enjoying outdoor physical exercise, and Mother Nature, in the company of friends, we'll have a memorable outing.

    Assemble at 8:00. We will leave at 8:05 SHARP to be back in time to watch the EAGLES final quarter! Ride through Belmont, Wynnewood, Havertown, Haverford, Merion, Bryn Mawr, Villanova, Radnor, Devon, Wayne, Gulph Mills, Conshohocken, Manayunk, etc. Many hills, including 12 (or so) relatively long ones. One 30-minute coffee stop in Devon (Pour Richards) at mile 26 or so. (It's all about the coffee.) Will regroup at top of long hills as needed, but riders are expected to achieve advertised pace (which is what our computers read as "average" at the finish). PLEASE PREREGISTER: It saves time; and increases substantially my ability to read the important info on the sign-in sheet; and it does not matter if you do not show up since we will not wait beyond the scheduled start time..

    OWLS (Older, Wiser, Longer, Slower) paced ride though Fairmount Park and beyond, depending on the group assembled. Please wear helmet (required by club). No one will be dropped and time allowed to recover at top of hills. Some instructional advice for new riders. This ride will make a stop at the Philly Bike Expo. We will stay several hours, but you may return on your own to the start.

    Ride Yer Bike Tuesday

    Bring yer bike & sense of adventure. Some days we'll ride familiar favorite routes, other days we'll scope out new routes. Today's ride (to Brig O'Doon in Ottsville for lunch) is a very scenic one, with long stretches of with nary a car. Relatively tame ride until we hit a very gradual 2.5 mill uphill around mile 8.5. It gets tame again for a while, but we'll hit a bunch of rollers as we get close to Ottsville (mile 21). After lunch we'll ride to Tabora's in Chalfont for a brief rest stop (a mostly rolling to mildly hilly stretch). The ride to the end has a good number of quick downhills, with some easy ups thrown in. Will regroup as needed, but must be able to maintain the posted pace. Must be willing to ride safely & obey traffic laws. Check day of the ride if weather is iffy (rain cancels). THE LAST RIDE OF THE MONTH STARTS FROM CENTRAL PARK, DOYLESTOWN AND NOVEMBER RIDES WILL BE AD HOC RE DAY OF THE WEEK AND START TIME.

    Phoenixville Day/Night Dog Ride

    Level C+: 13mph, 25-35 miles. Meet at Reynolds Dog Park, Longford Rd, Oaks, PA. The ride leaves at 6:00 pm. Cue sheets will not be available.

    The Phoenixville Dog Park rides will be day/night rides until daylight savings time ends. A strong headlight and taillight are required. The rides will begin in daylight and end in the dark. There will be approximately 2-2.5 hours of dark riding, so please plan batteries accordingly. These are beautiful rides on low-traffic roads. No one dropped, regroup as necessary, but please be prepared to ride the advertised pace on rolling to hilly terrain. Precipitation cancels.

    You think going to a cemetery is scary on Halloween, come with me for a night ride up the SRT. After we are away from the communities and into the dark, you’ll see all sorts of shapes gliding around you and hear all kinds of sounds in the dark. Hopefully there will be a moon. I will Meet & Leave Kayuh Bike Shop @ 6:35 PM for anyone who wants to meet there. We will ride & meet anyone else who wants to ride @ Lloyd Hall by 7:00 PM, meet @ Falls Bridge (maybe the last chance for bathroom until we get back) 7:35. And Wissahickon Bus @ 7:40. Remember, not to much open along the trail @ night, so bring a light snack & drink. Plan on a 2 & ½ hour ride. 1 hour up, turn around and back. Besides your helmet, YOU MUST BE DRESSED FOR A FALL NIGHT RIDE. That includes good gloves & foot wear. You must also HAVE FRONT & BACK LIGHTS!! If you are not dressed well or do not have lights; you do not ride. A no costume ride.
