Occasionally, ad-hoc rides are announced. These rides are sent by email to all members of the BCP email list. To join this list, click here. Explore pretty, peaceful roads in suburban counties -- Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, etc. Starting points will vary, so that we can cycle through different regions. Please check daily calendar for details of each Friday's route -- terrain, mileage, rest stops, etc. Cue sheets and on-line route map provided for each ride. If weather conditions are not conducive to cycling, this ride may be replaced by a hike/walk, or snow activity. As long as we are enjoying outdoor exercise, and Mother Nature, in the company of friends, we'll have a memorable outing.

    Assemble at 8:55. We willl leave at 9:00 SHARP! Ride through Belmont, Wynnewood, Havertown, Haverford, Merion, Bryn Mawr, Villanova, Radnor, Devon, Wayne, Gulph Mills, Conshohocken, Manayunk, etc. Many hills, including 12 (or so) relatively long ones. One 35-minute coffee stop in Devon (Pour Richards) at mile 26 or so. (It's all about the coffee.) Will regroup at top of long hills as needed, but riders are expected to achieve advertised pace (which is what our computers read as "average" at the finish). PLEASE PREREGISTER: It saves time; and increases substantially my ability to read the important info on the sign-in sheet; and it does not matter if you do not show up since we will not wait beyond the scheduled start time.

    Hike the Wissahickon (with a Stop for Coffee)

    Hike Moderate Pace on Moderate Trails, 6 or 8 miles. Meet at St. Martin's Station. The hike leaves at 9:30 am.

    Winter Hike. Moderate pace with some strenuous trails, 6 mi. (540 ft. of climbing) and 8 mi. (770 ft. of climbing) options. Meet at St. Martin's Station. The hike leaves at 9:30 am. Please join us on a beautiful hike in the Wissahickon Gorge of Fairmount Park, mostly on trails. We will hike 4.5 miles to the High Point Cafe at Allen Lane Station, stop for coffee, then hike back. Hikers may choose a 1.5 mi. short return or a 3.5 mile long return on the way back. Well behaved dogs are welcome but they must remain leashed - even on the trails.     G.R.I.T. Ride - Longford Park to Ludwigs Corner

    Hillier ride to Ludwigs Corner covering 25 road miles and 15 gravel road and trail miles. Convenience store rest-stop at mile 20.5. Bring your 29er, CX, Gravel or equip your road bike with wider tires as we mashup rides across various asphalt, gravel and sometimes dirt terrains. Expect a good challenge as we grind gravel trails and hit a few climbs with great company for no other purpose than to have fun and put in a few unpaved miles.


    Sunny Sunday D Ride

    Level D: 9-12mph, 12-24 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 12:00 pm.

    An(Older,Wiser,Longer,Slower) paced ride through Fairmount Park and beyond depending on the group assembled. Please wear helmet(required by club), dress for winter weather, extra tube, water, and $ for mid ride snack stop. Instructional biking tips will be available for new riders. There might be a hill or two for resistance as well as aerobic training. Recovery time at top of hills will be available. Please bring smiles, stories, jokes, and a good sense of humor.


    Sunny Sunday C Spin-Off

    Level C: 12mph Meet at Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 12:15 pm.

    For 2/3 - time-saving, out-and-back route to Oaks, via the SRT. Coffe break at the half-way point. Choice of places to stop - Wawa, Starbucks, Dunkin' Donuts. Return by 5:00. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Scenic loop, usually thru Montgomery Co. or Lower Bucks, with brief rest stop. Unless otherwise stated, meet most Sundays at Bruno's (finishing point for many of the Sunday AM Wissahickon hikes). Occasionally meet at another location in Chestnut Hill. Plan to return by 5:00pm. Please bring LIGHTS. Specific details posted for week. Every Sunday throughout winter (during hiking season), weather permitting, EXCEPT 2nd Sun in Feb. If weather is not bike-friendly, this ride may be replaced by snow activity. Keep moving throughout winter - maintain base fitness level for the return of spring cycling in March.

    Tuesdays are Suzy-Jo Donut day at Riverbend Cafe without needing to go on to Bridgeport, PA. This morning's route will go out Bryn Mar Ave, the Cynwd Heritage Trail, over Manayunk Trail Bridge, up Umbia and following Rivser Rd to the back approach to Riverbend Cafe and Bicycle Shop. We ride to eat donuts.

    Level C+: 13.5-14.5mph, 25-35 miles. Meet at Reynolds Dog Park, Longford Rd, Oaks, PA. The ride leaves at 6:30 pm. Cue sheets will not be available.

    The nighttime Phoenixville Dog rides will continue until daylight savings time begins. A strong headlight and taillight are required. The rides are on low traffic roads and feature rolling to hilly terrain. No one dropped, but please be prepared to ride the advertised pace over rolling to hilly terrain. Precipitation cancels. Ice on the road cancels. Temperatures below 15 degrees at the scheduled start time cancels.

    We're moving to W. Mt Airy and this trailhead is close to our new condo. Please join us on a beautiful hike in the Wissahickon Gorge of Fairmount Park, mostly on trails. We will hike 6.5 miles past the Toleration Statue and Lover's Leap. Well behaved dogs are welcome but they must remain leashed - even on the trails (or so they say).     Grind the gravel all the way to Princeton on the Delaware & Raritan Canal Towpaths. Lunch Stop at D'Angelo Italian Market before returning back on Raritan Canal Towpath through Mercer Meadows on the LHT. Route will cover 21 road miles and 30 gravel road and trail miles.

Going out via Upper Dublin High School and Cedar Hill Road, return via Gwynedd Mercy University and Brushtown Road. Several hills but no killers. 35-minute coffee stop at Backyard Beans. (It's all about the coffee!). Will regroup at top of hills if necessary, but riders are expected to maintain posted speed (what our computers read upon ride completion).     Feb. 15 - In celebration of today's mild temperature and sunny forecast, we'll join Wes & Katie's two-speed-group ride from UDHS to Hennings Market in Harleysville. Wes will lead the 16mph group, and Katie will lead the 14mph group. LMc will be the sweep, if needed. The outbound portion goes through Evansburg State Park. The return goes through West Point and Ambler. Total climbing is 1826 feet. Optional bathroom break at Heebner Park. This route was developed by Wes & Katie. Explore pretty, peaceful roads in suburban counties -- Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, etc. Starting points will vary, so that we can cycle through different regions. Please check daily calendar for details of each Friday's route -- terrain, mileage, rest stops, etc. Cue sheets and on-line route map provided for each ride. If weather conditions are not conducive to cycling, this ride may be replaced by a hike/walk, or snow activity. As long as we are enjoying outdoor exercise, and Mother Nature, in the company of friends, we'll have a memorable outing.

    A gentle C-/D+ Friday ride from the Art Museum to the High Point Cafe at Allen Lane Station and back -- out via Midvale Ave., back via the Wissahickon Trail (paved, not Forbidden Drive). Our pace will depend on the riders present. No one will be left behind. Bring water, money for our stop at Allen Lane and a spare tube. Helmets are required. We will leave late enough to avoid the early morning cold but get back early enough to avoid the late Friday afternoon traffic.

    Explore peaceful trails in Valley Green, with a rest break at the mid-way point. We'll explore some different trails today. Well-behaved canine hikers on leashes are always welcome to join us. If trails are snow- or ice-covered, wearing some type of "Yak Tracks" under your shoes is highly recommended for safety. We will meet at the Highland train station parking lot, just for a change of pace. This is on Seminole, between Gravers Lane and Highland Ave. From the train station, we'll walk down Rex Ave, to access the park trail.

    Willow Grove Amusement Park, never been there when it existed, only hear the story that amusement parks were put at the end of a trolley lines, to get customers on Sundays. The little dinner where we will stop for lunch is named the Terminal, most likely it was at the end of the line, Trolley Route 6. We will cycle up Midvale Ave, then into Cresheim Valley and on to Willow Grove. The return will be following the SEPTA suburban train lines back into the city using Ogontz Ave. This is a relatively hilly ride.

    Please join us on a hike in the beautiful Wissahickon Gorge of Fairmount Park. We will be hiking mainly on trails but can direct you back to Forbidden Drive if you need a shorter or flatter option. Hiking shoes or boots are recommended and depending on conditions, you might want to bring ice grippers for your footwear. Well behaved dogs are welcome, but they must remain on leash even on the trails. If you are parking on the Chestnut Hill side of the Wissahickon Creek, park in the upper lot and do not leave any valuables in your car.

The rides are on low traffic roads and feature rolling to hilly terrain. No one dropped, but please be prepared to ride the advertised pace over rolling to hilly terrain. Precipitation cancels. Ice on the road cancels. Temperatures below 15 degrees at the scheduled start time cancels.

    Let's get in one last ride in February. We will ride to Sabrina's Cafe for breakfast. If KYW is reporting snow or rain one hour prior to start, ride cancels.


    Not So Early Ride to Coffee in Devon from Manayunk (ad-hoc ride)

    Level B-: 14.5mph, 40 +/- miles. Meet at Manayunk Theater Parking Lot. The ride leaves at 9:30 am. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Assemble at 9:30. We willl leave at 9:35 SHARP! Ride through Bala Cynwyd, Wynnewood, Havertown, Haverford, Merion, Bryn Mawr, Villanova, Radnor, Devon, Wayne, Gulph Mills, Conshohocken, etc. Many hills, including 10 (or so) relatively long ones. One 35-minute coffee stop in Devon (Pour Richards) at mile 22 or so. (It's all about the coffee.) Will regroup at top of long hills as needed, but riders are expected to achieve advertised pace (which is what our computers read as "average" at the finish). PLEASE PREREGISTER: It saves time; and increases substantially my ability to read the important info on the sign-in sheet; and it does not matter if you do not show up since we will not wait beyond the scheduled start time.

    Its been very skimpy road riding weather, so lets start slow, with a shorter (30mile) route. there is 2000 ft climbing, but we wont push the pace. Up to Merry Mead Dairy and back.. No drops, but should be able to ride posted pace. Check back here for ride cancellation or changes. Overnight snow, potential for icy roads, or temps below 34 deg will cancel the ride.
