Level C-: 10.5-12mph, 62 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 10:00 am.
Leader: Chuck Herbert, , 267-228-1230This month's First Friday Fifty will actually be 62 miles (100 km). We'll ride from the Azalea Garden behind the Museum to Betzwood via the SRT, where will meet and join Steve Trobovic's ride to the Pink Moose Cafe in Royersford. [20.5 miles to Betzwood, 21 miles roundtrip with Steve's group, then 20.5 miles back] We expect to be back before 4:30 pm. Our avg. speed should be about 12 mph on the SRT to and from Betzwood, and 10.5 mph from there to Royersford and back. No one will be left behind. Bring water, money for our cafe stop and a spare tube. Helmets are required. Ride will be canceled if raining or snowing. If the temperature is near 40° we will ride 20 miles round trip instead and postpone the 62-mile ride for another week.

Easy, mostly flat route from Bala Cynwyd, along the SRT, almost to Phoenixville, then to Oaks for a quick coffee stop. On the outbound portion, we cross the Schuylkill River on the Pencoyd Bridge. On the return, we cross the river on the Manayunk Trail Bridge. Total climbing 1440 feet. At the mid-way coffee stop, we have a choice of Wawa, Dunkin' Donuts, or Starbucks. Leader: Tim Carey, , 267-414-9037Daryl's Pastries Inc, 102 N Keswick Ave, Glenside, PA 19038 is a good destination and it is up hill via Midvale Ave to Henry Ave, burning off the donut calories we will devouring at Daryl's Pastries. Best way is to come out and ride. There is a challenging ascent up Midvale Ave toward Henry Ave for a D level ride but with persistence and being in the lowest gear on your bike, the climb is doable. From there, Henry Ave and School House Lane, the terrain is rolling. Just got to do the miles. After a coffee/donut stop at Darryl's, we will head back along the Reading Rail Line, with some quick hills before entering back into the city at the West Oak Lane neighborhood. Then taking Ogontz Ave South through Logan, Nicetown, and Allegheny West to Kelly Dr. You will discover the wondering route of Ogontz Ave. Remember up hill going out, almost down hill all the way back to tha Art Museum. On street roads except for the Kelly Dr Bike Trail.

If you are not familiar with the trails in the southern end of the park, it may be difficult for you to cut the hike short, so be prepared to stay with us.

Outbound via Abington, Oreland, and Blue Bell. Indoor rest stop at the Whole Foods in Plymouth Meeting at the half-way mark (mile 20). Return via Spring Mill, Flourtown, and Glenside. Only one rest stop is planned. Total elevation gain is 1875 ft, per RidewithGPS.com. Mostly rolling terrain - tallest climb is 380 ft. Temperatures are expected to be in the 30's -- don't forget to wear your wool socks. 10 miles outbound with a slow gradual climb through the West Park then over the Strawberry Mansion Bridge and through Upper East Falls. 7 miles back down into Manayunk and home on the SRT. Only one rest stop is planned. Total elevation gain is 1875 ft, per RidewithGPS.com. Mostly rolling terrain - tallest climb is 380 ft. Most of the climbing is in the middle portion, but no severe climbs. Total elevation gain 1856 ft. On the return, if another quick rest break is needed, we can stop at Wawa in North Wales at mile 37. If below freezing, the trails can be icy so please wear appropriate foot gear (ice cleats, etc.) Well-behaved 4-legged friends are welcome, but please be respectful of others and keep them leashed. To cap off the "official" season, join us at Debbie and Jim's home in Flourtown for an after-hike lunch; contributions are welcome.
21st Annual Leprechaun Ride

In honor of that, the lucky dark chocolate coins are back ! We ride to Limerick and travel the Schuylkill River Trail back to quaint, downtown Phoenixville, and the Polish-American Club for a late Leprechaun breakfast/brunch, followed by a short, flat ride home. (There are a number of eateries/cafes/coffee shops nearby, if you don’t want a full meal). No one dropped. Route may be shortened to 25 miles if the Leprechaun makes nasty with the weather. (We may do a hike along the Schuylkill River at the Oaks Reach, if it snows or roads are bad). Bring money, snack and water. This year's ride is in honor of Arnie Roseman. So, if you're not riding and knew Arnie, just drive to the Polish Am. Club and join us for breakfast and talk some blarney about him and all the bike trips you're planning to do this year.

Organizer: Linda McGrane, , 267-251-7862BCP is please to host this seminar, to help our members enjoy the return to early spring bike rides, with more comfort, energy-efficiency, and good mechanical performance from our bikes. Physical therapists will present "spring training" exercises to maximize physical fitness and stamina for the return to spring cycling, with less fatigue, less discomfort, and lower risk of injury. A bike mechanic will present spring cleaning, maintenance, & tune-up essentials for our bikes to maximize performance and energy-efficiency. The mechanic will also display accessories which are helpful for the fickle weather in spring, when it's cool in the morning, but warm in the afternoon. "Happy Half-Hour" begins at 6:30pm for refreshments and socializing, and the program begins at 7:00. There will be a brief intermission between presentations for refreshments and socializing. VENUE: Giant Bicycles/Village Velo of Brigeport is directly across the Schuylkill River from the SRT, near the Norristown Transit Center. PARKING is available on-site - there is a large, free, off-street parking lot next to the shop. PUBLIC TRANSIT access includes the Manayunk train line, which stops at the Norristown Transportation Center, directly across the river from the venue. The SEPTA 99 bus runs along Dekalb St, and stops in front of the shop. VOLUNTEERS are NEEDED to help with set-up (5:45), and with clean-up at the end of the program. Special and scenic adventure from Doylestown through Upper Bucks County, into Hunterdon County, NJ, on [mostly] peaceful and pretty country roads. Outbound via Buckingham, Lahaska, and Ringoes, returning via Stockton, Bulls Island, and Carversville. Before crossing the river into NJ, we have an optional quick Wawa stop at mile 17. Indoor rest stop at the Carousel Deli in Ringoes at mile 26. On the return, we will be in Carversville at mile 45 - we can stop at the Carversville Store if needed for a bathroom/snack break. Total elevation gain is 2461 feet - rolling, but nothing too steep. We will stop to regroup as needed. No one dropped, but we will try to maintain 13mph or greater, as advertised. Please wear helmet(required by club), dress for winter weather, extra tube, water, and $ for mid ride snack stop. Instructional biking tips will be available for new riders. There might be a hill or two for resistance as well as aerobic training. Recovery time at top of hills will be available. Please bring smiles, stories, jokes, and a good sense of humor. Today's ride will be to Valley Green on Forbidden Drive, along the Wissahickon Creek. Some of the Forbidden Drive surface is gravel. Road bikes can navigate the drive, but Hybrid bikes are suggested.
