    Philadelphia In Lenapehoking - Ride Up the Delaware

    Level D: 10mph, 35 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Let's explore the trails the Lenni-Lenape and other tribes from the Lenapehoking territory along the banks of the Delaware River, up to Poquessing Creek. We will return to Penn Treaty Park by 1pm for a workshop: Philadelphia In Lenapehoking, learning about the historical Indigenous erasure. The conversation will continue at the Fishtown Community Library, finishing by 3 PM. If KYW is reporting that it is raining, snowing, or icy road conditions outside their studio, ride cancels.


    Early Bird (Slightly Slower) Ride to Coffee in Devon (ad-hoc ride)

    Levels B-: 14-14.5mph, 48 +/- miles. Meet at Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Assemble at 9:00. We willl leave at 9:05 SHARP! Ride through Belmont, Wynnewood, Havertown, Haverford, Merion, Bryn Mawr, Villanova, Radnor, Devon, Wayne, Gulph Mills, Conshohocken, Manayunk, Bala Cynwyd, etc. Many hills, including 12 (or so) relatively long ones. One 35-minute coffee stop in Devon (Pour Richards) at mile 26 or so. (It's all about the coffee.) Will regroup at top of long hills as needed, but riders are expected to achieve advertised pace (which is what our computers read as "average" at the finish). PLEASE PREREGISTER: It saves time; and increases substantially my ability to read the important info on the sign-in sheet; and it does not matter if you do not show up since we will not wait beyond the scheduled start time.     G.R.I.T. Ride - Longford Park to Ludwigs Corner (9:00 AM Start)

    Hillier ride to Ludwigs Corner covering 26 road miles and 17 gravel road and trail miles. Convenience store rest-stop at mile 20.5. Bring your 29er, CX, or Gravel bike with wider tires as we mashup rides across various asphalt, gravel and sometimes dirt terrains. Expect a good challenge as we grind gravel trails and hit a few climbs with great company for no other purpose than to have fun and put in a few unpaved miles.


    Sunday AM Hike in the Wissahickon

    Hike Swift Pace on Strenuous Trails, Moderate Pace on Moderate Trails, 6.5 to 8.5 miles. Meet at Parking lot of the Highland train station in Chestnut Hill, on Seminole between Gravers Lane and Highland Ave.. The hike leaves at 9:30 am.

    Explore peaceful trails in Valley Green, with a rest break at the mid-way point. We'll explore some different trails today. Well-behaved canine hikers on leashes are always welcome to join us. If trails are snow- or ice-covered, wearing some type of "Yak Tracks" under your shoes is highly recommended for safety. We will meet at the Highland train station parking lot, just for a change of pace. This is on Seminole, between Gravers Lane and Highland Ave. From the train station, we'll walk down Rex Ave, to access the park trail.

    OWLS (Older, Wiser, Longer, Slower) paced ride through Fairmount Park and beyond depending on the assembled group. Please bring extra tube, water, $ for mid-ride stop. Dress appropriately for the weather. Warm smiles and humor will warm us up, even if the weather is cool. There might be a hill or two to help with biking endurance, but will wait at the top for catching our breaths.

    A true C ride that cheerfully waits to regroup. Given expected wind and temps we will head to the Ardmore indoor Farmers Market via the Bryn Mawr Ave hill gentle climb and Sabine Ave, returning via the Manoa Rd gentle climb.


    Sunday Afternoon (Post-Hike) Winter Ramble - Bruno's to Oaks, via SRT

    For Feb.1: Easy, mostly flat out & back route to Oaks (almost Collegeville) on the Schuylkill River Trail, for a quick coffee break. We have a choice of places to stop in Oaks - Dunkin' Donuts, Starbucks, Wawa, etc. Plan is to return before 5:00pm. Total elevation gain is 1491 ft. A little bit of climbing, when riding away from the SRT, but, the SRT is flat. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Scenic loop, usually thru Montgomery Co. or Lower Bucks, with brief rest stop. Unless otherwise stated, meet most Sundays at Bruno's (finishing point for many of the Sunday AM Wissahickon hikes). Occasionally meet at another location in Chestnut Hill. Plan to return by 5:00pm. Please bring LIGHTS. Specific details posted for week. Every Sunday throughout winter (during hiking season), weather permitting, EXCEPT 2nd Sun in Feb.     St Joseph Polish Church Historic Society has an open house for tours of their church and of a mechanical nativity scene which is worth a visit. It is opened on the second Saturday of the month from 2 to 4 pm for docent lead tours. Let do something different by meeting 12 noon this Saturday and cycle to the Eagle Diner in Brooklawn, NJ, just south of Camden for lunch and afterwards visit the historic church.     Join us for a colorful hike in the middle of a gray winter. Dress in your brightest warm winter wear as we hit the Lavender Trail, the Orange Trail, the Yellow Trail, the White Trail and a red covered bridge. (Greenhorns welcome). We will be mostly on trails, with a short stretch on Forbidden Drive. Hiking boots make hiking easier. Bring water and a snack. Dogs are welcome, but they must remain on a leash. There are restrooms at the 3-mile mark. --- There is plenty of safe, easy parking at the start, but do not leave valuables exposed.

Several hills, but no killers. 35-minute coffee stop at Backyard Beans. (It's all about the coffee!). Will regroup at top of hills if necessary, but riders are expected to maintain posted speed (what our computers read upon ride completion).     The Caleb Pusey House

    Level C: 12mph, 39 miles. Meet at Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 11:00 am.

    Caleb Pusey was a friend of William Penn, who granted him 100 acres of land in Chester to run a grist mill. The house was built in 1683, and restored in 1960. We will take a meandering route south with a WAWA stop at 15 miles, then stop at the Caleb Pusey house for a few minutes for pictures. The return trip takes us up the Bicyclist's Baltimore Pike, a signed route which keeps bicycles off of main roads between Swarthmore and West Philadelphia. Optional second rest stop at 30 miles. This is an easy going "C" ride, going through Chester Park along the way. Bring the camera. P. S. I like warmer temps, hence the later start time.

    Please join us on an approximately 3 hour hike in the beautiful Wissahickon Valley Park, the wilderness part of Fairmount Park. We will be hiking mainly on trails. Because we are not starting on Forbidden Drive, it will be a little less straightforward to direct you back to the start if you decide you do not want to go the distance. Well behaved dogs are welcome, but they must remain leashed at all times. Bring water and a snack. There are restrooms at the start and a restroom in about the middle of the hike.

    For Feb.16: Easy, mostly flat out & back route to Oaks (almost Collegeville) on the Schuylkill River Trail, for a quick coffee break. We have a choice of places to stop in Oaks - Dunkin' Donuts, Starbucks, Wawa, etc. Plan is to return before 5:00pm. Total elevation gain is 1491 ft. A little bit of climbing, when riding away from the SRT, but, the SRT is flat. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Scenic loop, usually thru Montgomery Co. or Lower Bucks, with brief rest stop.     Exton, PA is at the Western end of the Chester Valley Trail, a winter maintained trail which means it is plowed when it snows. The trail is envisioned to go to Downtown and passed Thorndale and connect to many trails going north, south, west even to Lancaster and Harrisburg. The eastern connection to the Schuylkill River Trail will begin construction soon. Let's get a head start on this connective trail.     For 2/28: Leader has to work in the morning, so this ride will rock & roll in the afternoon. Pretty loop through Bucks County, from Langhorne to the Starbucks in Yardley. Indoor rest stop to warm up. There is also a Wawa in Yardley. Pass through Core Creek Park, alongside scenic Lake Luxembourg. Total climbing is 1225 ft, with most climbing before the rest stop. Flat stretch along River Road, approaching the rest stop. Coffee stop in Yardley is at mile 18. Start/Finish at Cairn University: Cairn is accessible via US-1 North to the Bellevue Ave Exit.
