    Frenchtown to Belvidere (Warren County, NJ) for Lunch and Ice Cream. COVID PRECAUTIONS IN EFFECT (ad-hoc ride)

    Revisiting a gorgeous region of north Jersey, based on scenic routes led by Dave Z., Charlie B., and others. Saturday's temperature will be warm, but not too hot for this ride. Meet at Frenchtown, then head northeast, skirting the Spruce Run Reservoir. Continue north to the darling town of Belvidere. Lunch and ice cream stop at Skoogy's Deli in Belvidere at half-way. Total climbing is 4088 ft, with most of the climbing in the first half of the ride. There will be convenience store rest stops along the way, before and after lunch.     Hills out West - Not West but North; Tabora Farm

    Consider this the next step up from the Toss of the DIce "C+" with more hills (3,600 ft). We will regroup as needed, but riders are expected to ride group pace.     We will follow last week's ride through Camden into Burlington County. Making a right on Church Rd into Moorestown, NJ, where we will be on the lookout for a coffee shop. Return though Riverton along the Delaware River, walking across the Tacony Palmyra Bridge, leaving our troubles behind us. Then cycling through the river wards, back to the start.     Level D: 9-12mph, 12-24 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 12:00 pm.

    OWLS (Older, Wiser, Longer, Slower) paced ride through Fairmount Park and beyond, depending on the heat and the gathered group. Please bring helmet and mask(required by the club), water, extra tube, $ for mid-ride snack stop, and sunscreen. He will longer distances on a flat course or shorter distance on a hillier course. We will follow appropriate Covid-19 mitigation procedures.

    This is a much slower version of the Thursday Night Hill Ride! It is the shorter version for now but as we get into August we will do the longer route. Plus I do this backwards ounce in a while. Seven Hills! Out to Penn Valley, down Mill Creek Rd to Flat Rock Park on the Montgomery County banks of the Schuylkill River, up out of the valley via Hollow and Hagysford Rds.     "C"vilized Thursday Night Hill Ride

    Level C: 12mph, 23 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 6:00 pm.

    C version of the Thursday Hill Ride. Four steep hills in Gladwyne, and we wait at the top of each hill. Some climbing ability required. Please pre-register though not required. Meet in same parking lot as the "Multi-Level Conshohocken Rides". Start by riding on Schuylkill River Trail, and/or, Cross County Trail, which connects the Schuylkill w/Plymouth Meeting . As riders get stronger, we can turn off the trails and explore some pretty roads in the area. Please bring lights in case we return at dark. COVID PRECAUTIONS in EFFECT.     Thursday Night Hill Ride - 10 Rider limit.

    A moderately hilly ride conquering Main Line hills that regroups at the top of each climb. As the days lengthen, so does the ride and we should be nearing 30 - 35 miles by July. Then return via another treasure, called Tabora’s, and sail by scenic Lake Galena. Dramamine not provided on this cruise. From LMc: This loop has 2749 ft of climbing. Convenience store if needed for quick break at Mile 7 in Warrington. Chubby's Ice Cream (and Wawa) in Plumsteadville at Mile 30. Tabora's in Chalfont at Mile 36.     Pleasant morning ride to the newest attraction in the Wisahicon Park, the Papper Trail Bike Coffee Shop. We take a longer but easy route out of the Schuylkill River Valley to W Hunting Park Ave and Henry Ave, Walnut Lane Bridge then to W Springfield Ave, taking Valley Green Rd down to the Valley Green Inn on Forbidden Dr in the Wisahicon Par. The gravel road leads us down to Box 10 where we will enter Rittenhouse Town. The coffee shop is there.     Circumnavigating the Delaware Bay Cycle Touring Bikepacking, August 9th to 13th.

    Level D: 10mph, 60/40/50/50/50 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 8:00 am. Cue sheets will not be available.

    The final Intro to Cycle Touring Bikepacking trip in the series of three will circumnavigate the Delaware Bay by riding out of Philadelphia to the Cape May Ferry over to Cape Henlopen, DE State Park and returning on the western side of the Delaware River back to Philadelphia. This will be five days of peddling and 4 nights of camping on a private farm in Woodbine,NJ and DE State Parks. Woodbine, NJ, Sunday, August 9th. Cape Henlopen State Park, DE, Monday, August 10th. Killens Pond State Park, Tuesday, August 11th. Lum's Pond State Park, DE, Wednesday, August 12th. And Philadelphia (home), Thursday, August 13th. Approximate mileage each day, 50 miles. Shared cost of camp sites and camp dinners and light breakfasts. Usually pack a lunch or buy along the way stopping for coffee or second breakfast. We will eat out for dinner in Cape Henlopen State Park. Might do group laundry along the third day of cycling or nightly wash with daytime drying. Need a working bicycle with racks and panniers, tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, one to three sets of cycling clothes, rain gear, bathing suit, warm outer wear, camp towel (showers at all camp sites), toiletries, maybe $30 to $40 a day for expenses.     Next Sunday, 8/23, is the last day to complete the 10.3-mi perimeter loop around the Philadelphia Airport for the contest.     Today (Sunday, 8/23), is the last day to complete the 10.3-mi perimeter loop around the Philadelphia Airport for the contest. Riders who complete the Airport loop are eligible to win a prize.....the Grand Prize is a $100 gift card to a bike shop.     Fifty miles of quiet roads, not one traffic light until the very end, and lots of bucolic, shady scenery! This is the PERFECT 50.0 mile ride. Food stop at Kathee's General Store, Frenchtown (or nearby Citgo store), then rest stop at Frenchtown Park, almost across the street at mile 27. On the outbound, we can stop at the Stockton Market at Mile 8.5, On the return, after crossing the Bulls Island Bridge, we can stop at the Lumberville Store at Mile 42. Total climbing is 2967 ft.     Using this easy ride as a recovery ride from yesterday's 72 mile ride to Atlantic City. Pleasant morning ride to the newest attraction in the Wisahicon Park, the Papper Trail Bike Coffee Shop. We take a longer but easy route out of the Schuylkill River Valley to W Hunting Park Ave and Henry Ave, Walnut Lane Bridge then Rittenhouse Town. The coffee shop is there. The route home is over the paved Wisahicon Trail to Ridge Ave if the trail has been cleared of down trees and down Martin Luther King Dr. If KYW is reporting rain outside their studio one hour prior to start, ride cancels.

    Sandy Hook Seashore Trek - COVID Precautions in Effect (ad-hoc ride)

    Picturesque adventure ride from Central NJ to Sandy Hook, a 1665-acre barrier peninsula which protrudes into the bay between NJ & NY. Sandy Hook offers a view of the Manhattan skyline, as well as 7 miles of beaches, a lighthouse, and a holly forest. Shortly before reaching the seashore, we'll stop at the Mt. Mitchell Scenic Overlook County Park, which includes a memorial to the heroes of 9-11. This county park provides a spectacular overlook of Sandy Hook Bay and the NYC skyline. The route to & from Sandy Hook will take us along the Navesink and Shrewsbury Rivers, as well as the Swimming River Reservoir. Beginning and ending portions of the route are rolling, with a few brisk climbs, but we will stop to regroup as needed. Total elevation gain is 2189 feet. Middle portion of the route (near and on the beach) is flat. Food stops at mile 25 and 45, + an optional Rita's Water Ice stop at mile 62, near the finish. DRIVING DIRECTIONS to the starting point (Visitor Center of Monmouth Battlefield State Park): 1) NJ Turnpike North to Exit 8/Hightstown & Freehold. 2) From Exit 8 ramp, turn right onto NJ-33 East/Franklin St. Stay on 33 East. 3) After crossing CR 527/Millhurst Rd, NJ-33 will split into Business and Expressway. Take the right-lane exit for 33 Business, then bear right at bottom of ramp for 33 Bus East. Look for sign for Monmouth Battlefield Visitor Center. Turn left into Visitor Center entrance. Parking lot is at the end of a long driveway. Please allow at least 75 mins driving time from Phila. The map link provided below (you can zoom in) will show the start/finish point, the whole route, and the elevation profile. WEATHER UPDATES will be based on the forecast for Manalapan, NJ, not Phila.     Come out for easy, novice to group club riding. All you need is a working bicycle, a bike helmet, and a face covering! Learn the rules of the road for cycling, enjoy the company of other new riders and experience riders who just enjoy a layed back ride. We usually stop for a snack along the way. We will visit the Schuylkill Banks Grays Ferry Crescent and check out the progress of the swing bridge then cycle out Lindberg Blvd and hop on the East Coast Green Way back to the start stopping at Jesabell's, 45th St between Spruce and Walnut. If KYW is reporting rain one hour prior to start, ride cancels.


    "C" Spinoff to Devon Whole Foods

    Level C: 12mph, 45 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 12:15 pm.

Must wear a mask for the meet-up but not required while riding, though riders and walkers whom we pass may be more comfortable if we mask up while on the four miles of the Radnor trail outbound.     Monday, August 31st & September 1st. Multi-Modal bicycle tour using Amtrak's Pennsylvanian train to Harrisburg, PA, cycling to York, PA for overnight in the Hampton Inn. The next day biking the Heritage Rail Trail County Park and Torrey C. Brown Rail Trail, then taking the late Amtrak Palmentto train back to Philly by 10:45 pm. Est. Cost: train with bike $ 120.50, shared costs of $100.00 motel night. And eating out for two dinners, one lunch and two coffee stops. Contact leader as soon as possible for need to make reservations for the bikes. Limit of 5 which includes the leader.


    Delightful, Delicious D (& D+/C-) Ride, Monday Evening Edition

    Level C- through D: 10-11.5mph, 15-26 miles. Meet at Upper Dublin High School. The ride leaves at 5:50 pm. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Scheduled for most Monday evenings throughout the summer. Gently paced, post-work evening ride to pedal away the day's stresses, suited for novice riders, newcomers to the area, and/or anyone seeking a low-intensity, relaxed, recovery ride. Cycle peaceful roads in Eastern Montgomery Co. Mileage will depend on the length of evening daylight. Please bring lights in case we are delayed on our return. Occasionally, this ride may be cancelled, if there is a special club event at another location.

This is behind the new Springhill Suites Hotel off of Rte. 252. We'll ride many of the roads that we use on the COS rides. Will break into groups of less than 10 and abide by the SCU/BCP COVID-19 Mitigation Guidelines at all times. Ride leader(s) will sign you in.
