    Fifty miles of quiet roads, not one traffic light until the very end, and lots of bucolic, shady scenery! This is the PERFECT 50.0 mile ride. Food stop at Kathee's General Store, Frenchtown (or nearby Citgo store), then rest stop at Frenchtown Park, almost across the street at mile 27. On the outbound, we can stop at the Stockton Market at Mile 8.5, On the return, after crossing the Bulls Island Bridge, we can stop at the Lumberville Store at Mile 42. Total climbing is 2967 ft.     Spring Mill Sunday C+ Preview ride of a new route 9:30 AM start - Remember time change :)

    Level C+: 11.5-12mph, 40 miles. Meet at Spring Mill SEPTA lot beside Riverbend Cycles. The ride leaves at 9:30 am. Cue sheets will be available.

    Destination: Tacony Creek Trail. This is a brand new route. There will be 8.1 miles of road which I have never used before, and a few miles which I have not used in a long time. If you would like to see how the sausage is made, come on out for a ride! 2, yes, 2 WAWA stops at 15 and 25 miles. That's just how it worked out this time. The Q sheet is revision 3, even before the pre-ride. Unknown factors: Milled streets, detours, etc. Heck, the whole thing may be perfect. Who knows? "C" pace with regrouping at hill tops and traffic signals. No potty at the start :( PLEASE remember your mask!!! I will provide a bare bones Q sheet so you can follow the "paint by numbers" if you like.

    Conshohocken has a real coffee but it is up the hill 'feine! We will do a run around to avoid the pain and enjoy a Latte bu taking the Cross County Trail up to Germantown Pike and down Butler Pike. But Butler Pike becomes Lafayette St which has two short hills to the real coffee shop. But be reasured it is down hill all the way back to Philly!     Upper Roxborough Reservoir Preserve

    The Upper Roxborough Reservoir located at a high point in the consolidated city of the county of Philadelphia is now a preserve. We will read about this Philadelphia land mark on the interpretation signage and cycle around the perrimmiter. This is close to the Schuylkill Valley Nature Center but we will not visit there. Too many dirt roads. Afterwards, we will descend Shawmont Ave to the Manayunk Canal Tow Path and hsve a coffee stop at Artesano Gallery, Green La and Main St in Manayunk.     This morning's Thursday Morning Hill Ride will be the fourth version of this ride: Williamson Rd - Wayerly Rd going down to River Rd on the west bank of the Schuylkill River. We then climb out of the valley via Hollow Rd and Hagesford Rd. Coffee at the Thunder Mug Cafe in East Falls.

    Scenic route on a beautiful autumn day with predicted high of 69* - meander from Doylestown through Upper Bucks County, into Hunterdon County, NJ, on [mostly] peaceful and pretty country roads, passing lovely country homes & farms. Outbound via Buckingham, Lahaska, and Ringoes, returning via Stockton, Bulls Island, and Carversville. Before crossing the river into NJ, we have an optional quick Wawa stop at mile 17 in New Hope. Rest stop at Ringoes at mile 26 - choice of delis, country market, take-out diner. On the return, we can stop at the Lumberville Store at mile 42 on River Rd, if needed. Total elevation gain is 2461 feet - rolling, but nothing too steep. We will stop to regroup as needed. No one dropped, but we will try to maintain the advertized pace. COVID PRECAUTIONS in Effect: Please review the Rider Guidelines for COVID Mitigation posted on the club website. Please bring a mask and hand sanitizer, and practice social distancing (20 ft apart while cycling, 6 ft apart when stopped). Starting points will vary, so that we can cycle through different regions. If weather conditions are not conducive to cycling, this ride may be replaced by a hike/walk (on foot).     Valley Forge Park - the Easy Way

    Last week we cycled to Valley Forge Park the old way which is another way of saying the hard way. This Saturday we will cycle the easy way, out the Schuylkill River Trail to the park and return via the Chester Valley Trail with stops in Norristown for a quick small coffee and one donut at Dunkn Donuts and a stop at the Wegmans in King of Prussia Mall just off the eastern trail head of the Chester Valley Trail.     Spring Mill Saturday C Power Line Trail

    Philly Wandrers - Best of the Wurst

    Enjoy a fun and scenic ride on this adventure through Burlington County NJ as we explore beautiful and little-known areas. Rest stops include Wawa and lunch at Best of the Wurst with German, Polish and American food prepared by Chef Wilhelm and served in an outdoor riverside venue. Along the way we'll stop at a number of peaceful, natural places including Boundary Creek Trail, Amico Island County Park and the Heritage Park Boardwalk on the Delaware River. NOTE: Have tires suitable for unpaved trails. There is a 3/4 mile section of unpaved trail at Boundary Creek plus another 3/4 section of unpaved trail at Amico Island. If you don't want to ride these sections you can sit them out as they are both loops and you can wait for the group to finish them and rejoin you.     Skippack Village via Perkiomen and Skippack Trails

    Level C: 12mph, 32 miles. Meet at Valley Forge National Park - Betzwood Picnic Area (by bathrooms). The ride leaves at 9:30 am. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Combination of trails to get to Skippack Village. 28mm or wider tires suggested. The Perkiomen Trail is manageable on road tires, but it is a bit lumpy. If you have a hybrid or a mountain bike that is best. The return trip will be on roads. WAWA stop at 16 miles. PLEASE remember your mask! Easy going pace. We will have to climb up the Skippack Trail to get to Skippack Village. We will regroup at hills and traffic signals. If you have not seen the Perk or Skippack Trails before, they should be very scenic with fall foliage at this time of year.


    Sunday BCP/SCU Hikes in the Wissahickon

    Hike Moderate Pace on Moderate Trails, 5-7 miles. Start location to be determined. The hike leaves at 9:30 am.

    Hiking the Wissahickon with BCP COVID-19 Protocols. Registrtion now open for this hike. Pre-registration is required. This is a shared hike with SCU. One week will be lead by BCP with registration on the BCP site and the next week will be lead by SCU with registration on their site.     For Friday the 13th: Our LUCKIEST route ever, another scenic gem by Charlie B! Pretty meander from Horsham (Montco) to Plumsteadville in Bucks County. Outbound via Colmar and Dublin, return via Peace Valley Park/Lake Galena, and Doylestown. Rest stop at Tabora's Farm & Orchard at Mile 17. Chubby's Ice Cream (and Wawa) in Plumsteadville at Mile 25. On the return, there are bathroom stops available at Mile 35 and Mile 40. Total climbing 2383 ft. Rolling terrain, but no killer climbs. COVID PRECAUTIONS in effect. Please refer to the Rider Guidelines for COVID Mitigation posted on the club's website. STARTING TIME 9:45, due to waiting for early morning rain to move out of area.     This multi-modal adventure begins at 30th St Station on Septa Regional Rail 707 departing at 9:06 am and arriving at Trenton Transit Center at 9:56 am. We will ride south through Trenton to 4 miles of gravel on the D&R Canal Trail. We'll then explore the River Towns as we travel south along the eastern shore of the Delaware River and check out several miles of new trail on the Circuit Trails in Burlington County. We'll take a well-earned break in Burlington NJ at the 23 mile mark. Continuing south we'll check out the Riverton Yacht Club on our way to Palmyra Nature Cove. From there we'll head back to Philly across the Ben Franklin bridge. **Note: Have appropriate tires for the 4 miles of gravel trail. BCP COVID guidelines will be in effect**

Still working on the punchline..... This scenic loop, near Delaware Bay, will take us on quiet, country roads through farmlands, marshlands, & across peaceful creeks and rivers. Terrain is very gentle -- mostly flat, with a couple of small climbs, but these are less than 150 ft each. Total elevation gain is 1178 ft. This route will venture down to the inlet and marina on the Cohansey River. Rest stops at mile 23 (Alloway), mile 38 (Greenwich), and mile 54 (Hancock's Bridge). SHORT-CUT OPTION: There will be a self-guided short-cut for those wanting to ride ~57 miles. The shorter version will not go down to Greenwich or the inlet, but will have two rest stops at Alloway and Hancock's Bridge. Directions to the starting point at Fort Mott: I-295 South in NJ to Exit 1/NJ-49 E - Broadway for Pennsville/Salem. After 4 miles on NJ-49E/Broadway, turn right onto Fort Mott Rd, and stay on this road for 3.5 miles, til you get to the Bay. Entrance to the State Park will be on your right. Pretty and scenic Montgomery County loop from Upper Dublin High School to celebrate the start of the holiday season with friends, and to enjoy an outdoor lunch on the patio of Wegman's in Montgomeryville. Outbound via Ambler, Gwynedd, and Lansdale. Return via part of the 202 Parkway trail, Warrington, and Maple Glen. On the outbound, there is a quick break at the mega-Wawa at mile 18 in Gwynedd, with bathrooms available. Outdoor lunch stop is at mile 30. On the return, if another rest stop is needed, we come close to a couple of Wawas at mile 42 (Warrington) and/or mile 46 (Horsham). Plan is to return before 3:00pm.     In honor of Thanksgiving turkey, this ride is a revival of the late Peter Odell's classic route to the Turkey Point Lighthouse, on the scenic and peaceful peninsula between the Elk River and the North East River, at the head of the Chesapeake Bay. Mostly quiet roads in northwestern Delaware and northeastern Maryland. Rest stop at mile 18.5, in the cute town of Northeast, MD. ScenicTurkey Point Lighthouse at the tip of the peninsula is at mile 31.5. (The Lighthouse Trail runs right along the perimeter of the peninsula.) On the return, we have a rest stop at a market/deli at mile 45. Total elevation gain is 3986 feet. Mostly rolling terrain, with some steep climbs (up-down-up-down) close to the lighthouse at the tip of the peninsula. We will stop to regroup as needed. Travel time from Philadelphia to Newark is ~one hour. Driving Directions from Philadelphia: I-95 South into DE, then DE-273 West toward Newark/Univ. of DE. DE-273 will lead you to Main St. The Newark Shopping Center, the Rail Trail parking lot, and Bike Line & Ski Bum stores will be on your right.     Sunday BCP Hikes in Parks outside of Phila

Due to the suspension of the Sunday Hiking in the Wiss program, please check the ride calendar for Ad Hoc hikes that may become available in parks and trails outside of the city. We certainly encourage people to post an ad hoc hike outside the city on any day of the week, not just Sunday.


    Test ride for new route - Tacony Creek Trail

    Level C+/C: 11.5-12mph, 40 miles. Meet at Spring Mill SEPTA lot beside Riverbend Cycles. The ride leaves at 9:30 am. Cue sheets will be available.

    See how bike routes are designed. This will be a scouting report for a new loop. There will be 7 or 8 miles which I have not ridden before. Moderate pace with regrouping. PLEASE remember your mask!!! I will encourage riders to wear their masks in Philly. 2 WAWA stops! No potty at the start :( Make a pit stop before you arrive. The '+' on the grade is for distance and a couple of climbs.

    !!!PLEASE NOT THERE IS A NEW STARTING LOCATION DUE TO COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS!!! OWLS (Older, Wiser, Longer, Slower) paced ride for both new, older, and younger riders. The ride will go through Fairmont Park and beyond with a hill or two for conditioning. An essential biking skill will be demonstrated and practiced for a short period of time on this ride. Please bring helmet and mask (required by the club). You should have an extra tube and instruments to change a flat, water, dress properly for the weather, and $ for mid ride snack rest stop. This ride will give you a chance to work off some of the extra calories from Thanksgiving.

    Level C: 12mph, 25-35 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 12:15 pm.

    Level B-: 14mph, 35-40 miles. Meet at Ft. Washington State Park, Flourtown Picnic Area. The ride leaves at 1:15 pm. Cue sheets will not be available.

    FOR 11/29 - MEETING AT THE FLOURTOWN PICNIC AREA of FT. WASHINGTON STATE PARK, on WEST MILL RD, in order to avoid the crowds at Bruno's - Scenic loop, thru Mont.Co. or Lower Bucks, brief rest stop. MEETING POINTS WILL VARY, due to the AM hikes being moved from Wissahickon to suburban points outside of Phila. Return by 5:00pm. Please bring LIGHTS. Details posted each week. Every Sun during winter hike season, weather permitting, w/possible exception Valentine's Day. If weather not bike-friendly, ride may be replaced by snow activity. Keep moving through winter - maintain base fitness for spring cycling in March. COVID PRECAUTIONS (mask, hand sanitizer, distancing, etc.) remain in effect.
