    FOR 1/1/2021 - HAPPY NEW YEAR! Short but pretty morning loop from Upper Dublin High School to Skippack, for a quick, outdoor rest stop at Wawa. Outbound via Blue Bell and Evansburg, return via North Wales and Ambler. Rest break at Skippack Wawa is at Mile 21. Total climbing 2062 ft. Return in time for COVID-compliant holiday time with family. Plan to return by 12:30pm, in order to beat the rain predicted to arrive in the afternoon. COVID PRECAUTIONS in Effect: Please bring masks and hand sanitizer, and practice safe distancing (20 ft apart while cycling, 6 ft apart when stopped). Please refer to the Club's COVID Mitigation Guidelines on the website, for more details. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Enjoy scenic adventures by bike on most Fridays, throughout the year. Explore pretty, peaceful roads in suburban counties -- Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, etc. Starting points will vary, so that we can cycle through different regions. Please check daily calendar for details of each Friday's route -- terrain, mileage, rest stops, etc. Cue sheets and on-line route map provided for each ride. If weather conditions are not conducive to cycling, this ride may be replaced by a hike/walk, or snow activity. As long as we are enjoying outdoor exercise, and Mother Nature, in the company of friends, we'll have a memorable outing.


    New Year's Day Ride for a Virtual Mummer's Parade

    Level D: 9-12mph, 24 miles. Meet at Jacobs Engineering Parking Lot. The ride leaves at 11:00 am.

    OWLS (Older, Wiser, Longer, Slower paced ride along the Schuylkill River Trail for most of the way to the Kimmel Center area. We will find an outdoor cafe for a quick cup of something warm to eat or drink. Please bring Helmet and masks (required by the club.) Please have extra tube, water, proper dress for the weather, and $ for mid-ride rest stop. If there is inclement weather, I will notify preregistered riders.

    Last week we only got as far as Conshohocken because of the very cold weather. Let's try to go the distance. Easy out and back over the Schuylkill River Trail and Chester Valley Trail.     Spring Mill Saturday SSC+

    Level C+: 11.5-12mph, 42 miles. Meet at Spring Mill SEPTA lot beside Riverbend Cycles. The ride leaves at 9:30 am. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Same guidelines as the C ride: Regroup at hill tops and traffic signals. "+" is for extra distance. Overall percentage of climbing is the same, but a few more miles means a few more hills.     Fantastic weather forecast for the start of the new year! Bright sunshine, with afternoon high temp of 44-46*. This is a gift for January! Pretty loop from Centre Square Park in Whitpain Township to the WAWA in Linfield/Limerick in western Montgomery County. Outbound via Skippack and Spring Mt, return via Graterford and Evansburg. On our way out to Limberick, there is a potty/snack stop if needed at the Heckler Plains Farmstead Park at Mile 11. OUTDOOR rest stop at Wawa is at the half-way point (Mile 23). Rolling terrain with 3323 total ft of climbing. COVID PRECAUTIONS in Effect - please bring masks and use hand sanitizer. Please maintain safe distancing (20 ft apart while cycling, at least 6 ft apart when stopped).     Pretty hike on the Skippack Creek Loop Trail in Evansburg State Park, to celebrate the New Year. Relatively gentle terrain, with only 263 ft of climbing. Please wear sturdy hiking shoes. Hiking poles are recommended. If the trails are muddy (or snow-covered) traction cleats for your shoes are highly recommended.     Come on our club's oldest running club ride. Designed for novice cyclists new to organized club rides, those new to Philadelphia, and those experienced riders just wanting a lay back group ride. A short review of the rules of the road, safety tips, advice to winter cycling clothing and description of the route will be given.     Sunday Afternoon (Post-Hike) Winter Ramble - EVANSBURG to HARLEYSVILLE/TELFORD - COVID PRECAUTIONS in Effect

    FOR JAN. 3: Hike will meet at Evansburg State Park, since this is where the morning hike will take place. Outbound via Skippack. Brief rest stop at Landis Market in Telford at the half-way point. Return trip will pass the Graceful Glen Alpaca Farm. If we are lucky, the alpacas will still be outside. Rolling terrain with 2227 ft climbing. Plan to return to Evansburg before 5:00pm. GOOD NEWS! Daylight is now gradually getting longer again. Statrt/Finish Point at Evansburg: please zoom in on the route map to see the parking lot.     This is the fourth of six versions of the Thursday Morning Hill Ride. We will continue on Old Gulf Rd which becomes Williamson Rd which becomes Youngs Ford Rd if you bare right continuing up with a right on Waverly Rd, then down to below sea level which we lovingly call Flat Rock Park. Anything that goes down will need to be paid back! That means climbing Hollow and Hagesford Rds. Coffee at Thunder Mug, wishing each other's accomplishments a Merry Christmas!     Delran, NJ, a long the Rancocas Creek, I know this area very well, graduated from Holy Cross High in Riverside NJ along Rt 130. I noticed the Delran Coffee Shop where you can get more than coffee while looking up the Pie Lady Cafe in Moorestown, NJ. So let's try it! Over the Ben Franklin Bridge and returning by walking over the Tacony Palmyra Bridge on the way back to Philadelphia.     SUNSHINE & HOT COFFEE - Yardley, Bucks Co. to Hopewell & Pennington, NJ - COVID PRECAUTIONS in Effect

    Pretty and scenic loop from Yardley, PA (Bucks Co.) to Washington Crossing, then a meander through historic Mercer County, NJ. Stop in the darling town of Hopewell, and stop for coffee/lunch at the popular Boro Bean cafe, at Mile 24. Boro Bean has outdoor tables. From Hopewell, cycle past more green landscapes to Pennington. We'll cross a couple of brooks/creeks. On the return, if another rest break is needed, we can stop in Pennington at Mile 33, or on the PA side of Washington Crossing at Mile 40. The middle portion of the route has some hills, but no killer climbs. The beginning and final stretches on River Rd and River Drive are flat. Total elevation 2134 ft. START/FINISH in Yardley: Large parking lot at 25 South Main St, where Vince's Pizza is located. There is a Wawa across the street.     Got to get a front and back bicycle lights, most likely to fit on my helmet. So after coffee and a pastry at Parera Bread at the White Marsh Shoping Center up on Ridge Ave and Butler Pike, we go shopping at REI across the pike.     Merion Squre Rd is the steepest hill in the series of the Thursday Morning Hill Ride. Come challenge yourself and get stronger but not faster roadie.     On one of Rob Gusky's rides, he reintroduced me to a route we used to take to Media, PA. Geroge Yarnell introduced me to the Media Bean Coffee Shop which serves more than coffee and has outdoor seating. The ride is steady up hill with one very challenging hill! A little bit of climbing, when riding away from the SRT, but, the SRT is flat. If KYW is reporting rain outside their studio one hour prior to start, ride cancels.


    CANCELLED (Snowy) Sunny Sunday C Spinoff - Lower Swedish Cabin

    Levels C: 12mph, 26-32 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 12:15 pm. Cue sheets will not be available.

    The Lower Swedish Cabin is a colonial era cabin built between 1640 and 1650 by Swedish settlers in the Delaware Valley. It is located on the banks of Darby Creek. 2 possible distances (depending on weather). Short version 26 miles. Long version 32 miles. PLEASE remember your mask! Regrouping at hill tops and traffic signals.

    Level B-: 14mph, 35-40 miles. Meet at Various Starting Locations - details posted each week. The ride leaves at 1:15 pm. Cue sheets will be available.

    CANCELLED for 1/31, due to SNOW ARRIVING IN PM Scenic loop, thru Mont.Co. or Lower Bucks, brief rest stop. MEETING POINTS WILL VARY, due to the AM hikes being moved from Wissahickon to suburban points outside of Phila. Return by 5:00pm. Please bring LIGHTS. Details posted each week. Every Sun during winter hike season, weather permitting, w/possible exception Valentine's Day. If weather not bike-friendly, ride may be replaced by snow activity. Keep moving through winter - maintain base fitness for spring cycling in March. COVID PRECAUTIONS (mask, hand sanitizer, distancing, etc.) remain in effect.
