    FOR JULY 1: Borrowing a NEW 5-Star route from Charlie B: Pretty route through Montgomery and Bucks Counties, stopping for ice cream at Chubbie's in Plumsteadville at the half-way point. There is a Wawa across the street from Chubbie's. On the outbound, we can take a quick snack/bathrom break at Tabora's at Mile 16. On the return, we will cycle around Lake Galena/Peace Valley Park, and can take a bathroom break at Mile 34. Terrain is rolling, with most of the climbing before the lunch & ice cream stop. Total climbing is 2381 ft. SHORT-CUT OPTIONS are available to shave off a few miles, if riders refer, due to the heat. EARLIER RIDE START (9:00am), due to the afternoon heat. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Enjoy scenic adventures by bike on most Fridays, throughout the year. Explore pretty, peaceful roads in suburban counties -- Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, etc. Starting points will vary, so that we can cycle through different regions. Please check daily calendar for details of each Friday's route -- terrain, mileage, rest stops, etc. Cue sheets and on-line route map provided for each ride. If weather conditions are not conducive to cycling, this ride may be replaced by a hike/walk, or snow activity. As long as we are enjoying outdoor exercise, and Mother Nature, in the company of friends, we'll have a memorable outing.

    In a seashore state of mind? Today, we'll visit the central Jersey shore in Monmouth County, beaches more familiar to New Yorkers. This scenic route is popular with the Princeton FreeWheelers. In addition to cycling along Ocean Drive in the pretty seaside towns of Spring Lake and Belmar, we’ll also ride around Perrineville Lake, Manasquan Reservoir, and Lake Como. Outdoor Lunch stop at Belmar Beach around mile 40, plus rest stops along the way, to and from Belmar. After Belmar, we will continue north along the Ocean Drive to the seashore towns of Ocean Grove and Asbury Park, before returning inland to the starting point. The middle of the route (near the beach) is flat. The beginning and end portions have very gently rolling hills, but nothing steep. We will stop to regroup as needed. Total elevation gain is 2265 ft. Driving Directions to the starting point at Etra Lake Park: 1) New Jersey Turnpike North to Exit 8 – Hightstown/Freehold (NJ-133). 2) From the Turnpike exit ramp, quickly turn right onto Milford Rd. 3) In 1.1 miles, turn left at “T” at County Rd 571/Etra-Perrineville Rd. (Etra Lake will be on your left.) 4) In 0.2 miles, turn left at 3-way onto Disbrow Hill Rd. Parking lot will be on your left. Please allow 75 mins driving time from Phila.     Row Boating on the Schuylkill River

    Going to be a hot one today. Let's be on the water, in a row boat or a kayak at the Bartram's Garden riverfront! Free community boating on the Schuylkill River. But first a ride though center city Philadelphia,east on Chestnut Street red carpet bus/bike lane and west on Spruce Street, continuing west on Walnut to Jesabel's on 45th Street for coffee before heading over to Bartram's Garden for over rowing adventures.     Toss of the Dice 2.0 - Valley Forge Metric Century

    Levels B: 14-15mph, 35-80 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 9:15 am. Cue sheets will not be available. The on-line route map is Independence Day Valley Forge Metric Century.

    Various friendly rides per DAILY RIDE CALENDAR departing FROM THE PARKING ATTENDANT BOOTH at specified time and ranging 35-80 miles. We will regroup as needed, but riders are expected to ride group pace. 3,000 ft of hills (we are not using the trail). Bring food or money for snack along the way, as well as a spare tube, tire irons and multi-tool. Coffee/snack stop in Devon (mile 26) and Rita's water ice at mile 52.     START TIME PUSHED BACK TO 9:00, to allow roads to dry This spectacular three-state route is based on a ride by Nancy Moyer of DVBC, with route adaptations by Charlie B. The scenery is 5 stars! Ride from Chadds Ford to the ADORABLE town of Northeast, MD, on the Northeast River, which flows into the upper Chesapeake. Along the way, quiet roads and plenty of green vistas. Rest Stop Mile 9 at Wawa in Hockessin, DE. Also Milburn Orchard in MD at mile 23, and Wawa just before and after North East, MD at miles 31 and 36. Lunch options in Northeast at mile 34 after viewing the North East River (Chesapeake in distance) from Northeast Park. On return, Pleasant Hill Store (MD) at mile 40 and Landenberg Store (PA) at 54.     Sunny Sunday C Spin-Off

    Sunny Sunday D Ride

    Level D: 9.5-12mph, 12-24 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 12:20 pm.

    OWLS(Older, Wiser, Longer Slower) pace ride through Fairmount Park and beyond. All ages welcomed. This will be a shorter than usual ride, so that ride leader can prepare for the 4th of July Ride. There might be a hill or two, but we will regroup after we reach the top. Please come about 15 minutes early, so that we can start on time.

    Pretty meander for early morning on the 4th for July, before we go to afternoon BBQ's and picnics with family. Quiet loop from Ft. Washington to Warrington/Jamison in Bucks County. Total climbing 2118 feet. Outdoor rest stop at Wawa is at Mile 23. Outbound via Horsham and Warrington, return via Jarrettown. ICE CREAM after the ride: when we return to UDHS, we can go ~1 mile down the road to Sweet Briar Cafe in Ambler for ice cream, frozen yogurt, etc. Sweet Briar is also an outdoor rest stop.     Bagels & Cream 40 miles from Cranbury NJ (ad-hoc ride)

    July 4th hot dog D Ride

    Level D: 9.5-12.5mph, 50 miles. Meet at 3740 Main St., Manayunk, Philadelphia, PA. The ride leaves at 9:30 am.

    OWLS (Older, Wiser, Longer, Slower) paced ride for any age. This will be a longer than normal D ride starting at the shopping center, where Cadence Cycles is located,on a relatively flat course on the Schuylkill River Trail to Lower Perkiomen Park. This will be the 5th annual 4th of July Ride. There will be hot dogs and acompliaments at the picnic area at our rest stop. There is no bathrooms at the start. Please wear helmet (required by the club). Bring water, sunscreen, an extra tube and tools to fix a flat. Bring patriotic stories and/or jokes.


    CANCELLED Church of the Savior (COS) Multi-Level Group Rides

    Levels A through D: 10-20mph Meet at Church of the Saviour, Wayne, PA. The ride leaves at 6:00 pm. Cue sheets will not be available.

    The Church of the Savior (COS) Monday night ride is sponsored by both the Bicycle Club of Philadelphia and Suburban Cyclists Unlimited. It is the largest group ride in the region with up to 75 riders participating from April through October each year. Our riders have varying ability levels ranging from beginner (“D” level) riders on hybrid bikes that average 9-12 mph through semi-professional (“A” level) riding at 22-25 mph. As a result, we break into groups that are about 7-10 riders although these groups may be as large as 20 riders at times.


    Delightful, Delicious D (& D+/C-) Ride, Monday Evening Edition

    Level C- through D: 10-12mph, 15-29 miles. Meet at Upper Dublin High School. The ride leaves at 6:00 pm. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Scheduled for most Monday evenings throughout summer, weather permitting. Gently paced, post-work evening ride to pedal away the day's stresses, suited for novice riders, newcomers to the area, and/or anyone seeking a low-intensity, relaxed, recovery ride. Cycle peaceful roads in Eastern Mont Co. Brief rest stop for quick snack/bathroom break half-way through. Mileage will depend on the length of evening daylight. Please bring lights in case we are delayed on our return. Toward the end of the season (mid-September), this ride will need to leave earlier (5:45 or 5:30pm), due to evening daylight ending earlier.

Check day of the ride if weather is iffy - rain cancels, but may reschedule for Wed. NOTE: Upper Dublin H.S. starts will have porta-potties but not water. NOTE: Ride starts at 9:00 June thru Aug., 9:30 in Sept.& 10:00 in Oct. November is ad hoc: different day, time and start locations each week. Let's go up Bryn Mawr Avenue to Highland Ave. , but this time we'll avoid the tunnel and stairs under the tracks, On the way back, we'll take Bryn Mawr to Winfield, and then Parkside into Fairmount Park and re-enter the MLK at Sweet Briar Rd.

Gently paced, post-work evening ride to pedal away the day's stresses, suited for novice riders, newcomers to the area, and/or anyone seeking a low-intensity recovery ride. Relaxed pace, peaceful roads in Eastern Montgomery Co. Please bring lights in case we are delayed on return. This Tuesday night ride meets weekly throughout summer, except if raining, unless there is another special club event in a different location (e.g., Member Appreciation Tailgate Social at another club ride site). After Labor Day, this ride will meet earlier (5:45 or 5:30pm), due shorter evening daylight.

Wanting a slower pace than the awesome new Musette rides, or the OG Fountain Ride, this is the ride for you. Trying to keep the pace @ 14.5-15.5 (good bit of flats and downhills, to help the pace). Main climbs will be Henry Ave, Militia Hill and the rest of Militia Hill after Stenton Ave. Maybe a Bishops Collar stop afterwards.

    Bring yer bike & sense of adventure. Some days we'll ride familiar favorite routes, other days we'll scope out new routes. Today we'll ride to Skippack (mile 23) as our lunch stop - choice of Italian Market (great sandwiches), pizza, Wawa or other - whatever each group decides on. Pretty easy ride, comparatively speaking. Not as much elevation gain as many of our rides, mostly rolling hills with some short climbs. Expect good company on safe/low trafficked roads. We'll regroup as needed, but be prepared to maintain the posted pace. Must also be willing to ride safely and obey traffic laws.

    Last week we did this ride in reverse. This week we will reverse the reverse and do the regular ride down Mill Creek Road to Flat Rock Park and then up challenging Hollow Road. It's almost all downhill after that through West Laurel Hill Cemetary to lunch at the Landing Kitchen and home through the park. In case of rain, I will cancel the ride by 9 AM. If the ride isn't canceled it's going.

    Level C- through D: 10-12.5mph, 20-30 miles. Meet at Jacobs Engineering Parking Lot. The ride leaves at 6:00 pm. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Scheduled for most Thursday evenings throughout summer, weather permitting. Gently paced, post-work evening ride to pedal away work stresses, suited for novices, newcomers to area, and/or anyone seeking a low-intensity recovery ride. Start by riding on Schuylkill River Trail, and/or, Cross County Trail, which connects the Schuylkill w/Plymouth Meeting . As riders get stronger, we can turn off the trails and explore some pretty roads in the area. Please bring LIGHTS in case we return close to dark. Our mileage will be determined by how much evening light we have. Occasionally, this ride may meet earlier in afternoon, due to other event in evening. In mid-September, ride will depart at 5:45 or 5:30, due to earlier sunset.


    Thursday Hill Ride B- Please pre-register.

    Level B-: 14-15mph, 20 - 30 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 6:00 pm. Cue sheets will not be available.

    A moderately hilly ride conquering Main Line hills that regroups at the top of each climb. As the days lengthen, so does the ride and we should be ~ 30 miles by July.     If you can't go cross country, go overnight! This is the fifth and final in a series of five cycle touring bikepacking trips to introduce cyclists to a style of traveling under your own power, cycling and camping. Circumnavigating the Delaware Bay, Sunday July 10th thru Thursday July 14th. Four nights camping, five days of cycling an average of 50 miles a day. Philadelphia to Woodbine, NJ; to Cape Henlopen DE State Park, taking the Cape May-Lewes Ferry to Rehoboth; to Killens Pond DE State Park; to Lums Pond DE State Park; to home. We have a cook out for Sunday night dinner, eat out in Lewes, DE Monday night; store bought dinners Tuesday and Wednesday nights. We have a camp breakfast which only needs boiling water for prep such as instant oatmeal, hot chocolate, tea, coffee, breakfast bars etc. We usually stop along the way for a second breakfast/coffee break. First day it is great to pack a few peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, granola bars, power bars for lunch. Gatorade can be bought along the route at the many convenient stores we will pass. Before going into camp those two days which we be having supper in camp, we will pick up ready prepared food for dinner or any meal that requires just boiled water for the prep.     The Church of the Savior (COS) Monday night ride is sponsored by both the Bicycle Club of Philadelphia and Suburban Cyclists Unlimited. It is the largest group ride in the region with up to 75 riders participating from April through October each year. Our riders have varying ability levels ranging from beginner (“D” level) riders on hybrid bikes that average 9-12 mph through semi-professional (“A” level) riding at 22-25 mph. As a result, we break into groups that are about 7-10 riders although these groups may be as large as 20 riders at times.

Lots of low traffic roads, plus a few miles on paved trails here and there (202 Parkway, Nesheminy Creek, Bradford Dam and Powerline trails). .     Scenic and pretty route from Parkside Place Park in Upper Gwynedd to the OWowCow Creamery in Wrightstown, Bucks County. The outbound portion will include the 202 Parkway Trail, and the return will include the Horsham Power Line trail. At mile 12, we can take a quick bathroom/snack break if needed at Central Park in Doylestown. The ice cream & lunch stop is at mile 28. There is an organic food market (Organnon's), a country store (sandwich shop/deli), and a pizzeria/Italian restaurant near the creamery in the same complex. On the return, at mile 38, we can stop at Wawa for water, etc. The middle portion of this route is particularly green and peaceful, and crosses two creeks (Jericho and Neshaminy. MEETING POINT: Parkside Place Park on Sumneytown Pike is across the street from the huge Merck building. Meet in the parking lot across from the public swimming pool. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Scenic adventures by bike on most Fridays, throughout the year. Explore pretty, peaceful roads in suburban counties -- Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, etc. Starting points will vary, so that we can cycle through different regions.     Reprise of a pretty and scenic route through Chester, Berks, and Lancaster Counties, made popular by other ride leaders. A scenic ride from Warwick County Park (Knauertown, PA, near St. Peter's Village) into western Chester County with a few miles in Berks and Lancaster Counties. Beautiful farm country. Revised version which avoids busy PA-345, and adds September Farm food stop (closed Sundays). Total climbing: 3806 ft. (It IS Chester County.) The "famous" intersection of Blank & Plank is at Mile 31. There used to be buffalo at Blank & Plank. We have rest stops along the way at Turkey Hill, September Farm, and Far & Away farm store, and plenty of peaceful and green countryside.     The Church of the Savior (COS) Monday night ride is sponsored by both the Bicycle Club of Philadelphia and Suburban Cyclists Unlimited. It is the largest group ride in the region with up to 75 riders participating from April through October each year. Our riders have varying ability levels ranging from beginner (“D” level) riders on hybrid bikes that average 9-12 mph through semi-professional (“A” level) riding at 22-25 mph. As a result, we break into groups that are about 7-10 riders although these groups may be as large as 20 riders at times.

    Bring yer bike & sense of adventure. Some days we'll ride familiar favorite routes, other days we'll scope out new routes. Today we'll ride to Hennings Market in Harleysville for our lunch stop (mile 27), after a rest stop at Evansburgh State Park (mile 17). At the moment (Sunday), the forecast isn't as hot as some days to come, but still pretty hot. So we'll be doing a relatively easy route today - not much in significant hills, with the steepest being Bean Rd. Expect good company on a mix of nice and safe country and suburban roads. We'll regroup as needed, but be prepared to maintain the posted pace. Must also be willing to ride safely and obey traffic laws. On the final stretch, we return to Mondauk via West Point, Gwynedd, and Ambler. Terrain is rolling, but nothing too steep. Total elevation gain is 2383 ft, with most of the climbing in the middle of the route.     Meet at Etra Lake Park, 9 Disbrow Hill Rd, East Windsor, NJ. The ride leaves at 8:30 am. In a seashore state of mind? Today, we'll visit the central Jersey shore in Monmouth County, beaches more familiar to New Yorkers. This scenic route is popular with the Princeton FreeWheelers and is a adaptation of a route from Linda McGrane. In addition to cycling along Ocean Drive in the pretty seaside towns of Spring Lake and Belmar, we’ll also ride around Perrineville Lake, and Lake Como. Outdoor Lunch stop with multiple options at Belmar Beach around mile 36, plus rest stops along the way, to and from Belmar. The middle of the route (near the beach) is flat. The beginning and end portions have very gently rolling hills, but nothing steep. We will not drop anyone, but please make sure that you are able to maintain the advertised pace. Total elevation gain is about 2100 ft. Driving Directions to the starting point at Etra Lake Park: 1) New Jersey Turnpike North to Exit 8 – Hightstown/Freehold (NJ-133). 2) From the Turnpike exit ramp, quickly turn right onto Milford Rd. 3) In 1.1 miles, turn left at “T” at County Rd 571/Etra-Perrineville Rd.     The Church of the Savior (COS) Monday night ride is sponsored by both the Bicycle Club of Philadelphia and Suburban Cyclists Unlimited. It is the largest group ride in the region with up to 75 riders participating from April through October each year. Our riders have varying ability levels ranging from beginner (“D” level) riders on hybrid bikes that average 9-12 mph through semi-professional (“A” level) riding at 22-25 mph. As a result, we break into groups that are about 7-10 riders although these groups may be as large as 20 riders at times.

    Bring yer bike & sense of adventure. Some days we'll ride familiar favorite routes, other days we'll scope out new routes. Today we'll be riding to Lahaska (Peddlers Village, mile 29). Expect good company on safe, very scenic, low trafficked country roads. Overall, not a very hilly route (49 ft./mile), but there will be hills.     Visit one of the most remote, pristine and beautiful bodies of water in the Pine Barrens, Oswego Lake. Meet at 30th St Station Gate 2 (outside Penn Market) to begin our adventure on NJT Train#4669 at 8:20 am to Egg Harbor City. Stops include River Road Clamhouse (fresh oysters, smoked fish at Mile 8), Oswego Lake (swimming and picnic at mile 24) and the infamous Pine Barrens Liquors & Deli at mile 34. Plan to return to Philadelphia on NJT #4682 departing Egg Harbor City at 5:45 pm. Bring bungees or velcro straps to secure bike on train, swimming gear and picnic lunch. NOTE: The 3 mile section on Lake Oswego Rd is unknown surface - Google Maps does not have streetview; although the intial section appears to be paved, the remaining stretch could be gravel/sand/etc. Wider tires are advised - I'll be riding 700 x 35

    HAMMONTON, NJ TO GREAT BAY/BLUEBERRY CENTURY

    This ride is based on a route by Mike Krizauskas of BCP, SCU, and the Jersey Shore Cycle Club, originally planned to coincide with the Blueberry Festival in Hammonton, Blueberry Capital of the World. Mike K. has updated this route, to include scenic Lake Oswego, as well as other lakes, ponds, etc. On this 108-miler, there will be several rest stops The route, which is FLAT, will take us through blueberry farmlands, as well as quaint small towns in the Hammonton area. We'll cycle down to Lands End, that is, the end of the road at Great Bay. You'll see a wide menagerie of wildlife, as we cycle across the marshes toward the bay. You'll also see a facility along the bayshore which used to be a Coast Guard facility - it's now a marine research lab. Please note: we may have some headwinds, especially as we approach the bay. The 75-miler does not go to Land's End at Great Bay.     NEW CYCLIST'S RIDE-Join Katie and Wes at UDHS for the 9 or 19 mile Tour of Greater Ambler-Version 21 ride via a combination of residential streets, trails and a few short sections of busier roads. Please note that this route includes a number of moderate hills. Restroom, water and snack break at UD Sports Park. (mile 9). Option to return to start at mile 9. Recommend that you carry one full water bottle and some snacks for the break. Rain Cancels. Please make certain that your bike tires are inflated, moving parts lubricated and bicycle in good working order. Also strongly recommend that you carry a spare inner tube should your tire puncture.
