    Pretty route created by Charlie B. through Montgomery and Bucks Counties. Quick bathroom break at Hansell Park at Mile 17.5. Lunch stop in Plumsteadville at Mile 24 - Wawa, Chubby's Inc Cream, and/or The Salt Box. On the return from lunch, there are opportunities to stop for bathroom breaks at Tabora's Market, Lake Galena, or Nike Park. Total elevation gain 2310 ft for 46 miles - just under 50 ft climbing per mile. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Enjoy scenic adventures by bike on most Fridays, throughout the year. Explore pretty, peaceful roads in suburban counties -- Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, etc. Starting points will vary, so that we can cycle through different regions. Please check daily calendar for details of each Friday's route -- terrain, mileage, rest stops, etc. Cue sheets and on-line route map provided for each ride. If weather conditions are not conducive to cycling, this ride may be replaced by a hike/walk.     Fort Mifflin and a Ride around the Philadelphia International Airport

    Level D: 9mph, 34 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. Cue sheets will not be available.

    We will cycle down to Fort Mifflin at confluence of the Schuylkill and Delaware Rivers. We most likely will not go into the fort for a historic tour, just a look out over its walls. We will ride through Bartram's Garden on our way down to Fort Mifflin, checking out the progress of the Schuylkill Banks Trail, Cristian to Crescent. From Fort Mifflin, we will ride clockwise around the Philadelphia International Airport. From there to the Cobbs Creek Bike path, the western boundary of the City of Brotherly Love to Spruce St. A lunch stop near the end of our ride at Jezabel's, Argentine Cafe for Enpanadas and coffee, 45th St between Locust and Walnut Sts. This ride will take longer than you might think. If KYW is reporting rain outside their studio one hour prior to start, ride cancels.


    Toss of the Dice 2.0

    Levels B: 15mph, 35-80 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 9:15 am. Cue sheets will not be available. The on-line route map is Paoli via Havertown.

    Our destination for this ride will be a lunch encounter at an unknown lunch destination in Phoenixville, Pa. We will leave from the Ardmore Farmers Market with a potty stop at Betzwood before heading to our final destination for lunch. The out bound route will be either the semi hilly ride out via the Main Line to Conshohocken and the SRT or a new uncharted less hilly route to Conshohocken , this will be determined by a democratic vote at the beginning of the ride.     Early Bird Ride to Coffee in Ambler: Post-DST Edition (ad-hoc ride)

    Assemble at 8:15 EST (it should feel like 9:15) Depart at 8:20 SHARP! Ride through East Fairmount Park, East Falls, Wyncote, and Flourtown to Wake in Ambler at mile 20 or so for 35-minute coffee stop (it’s all about the coffee), then return via Lower Gwynyd and Manayunk Bridge. Approx. 3,000 feet of climbing. Will regroup as necessary, but riders are expected to achieve posted speed.

    An incredibly scenic ride through the Oley Valley in Berks County. Thanks to Rich Wagner for the original version of this picturesque route, and thanks to Charlie B. to updating the route. Featuring the crossing of two covered bridges, Three rest stops. One at your standard convenience store. One at a great little deli/restaurant in the quaint town of Oley. And even one at a chocolatier. Terrain will consist of significant climbs for the first and last 15 miles , but this route has been adjusted, so that the beginning and ending climbs over the ridge are more gentle, less steep. The middle 30 is rolling to flat. This will be one of the prettiest rides you will do this year. Cue sheets will be available. Total climbing 3847 feet. We will stop to regroup as needed. DRIVING DIRECTIONS to French Creek State Park: Take the Main PA Turnpike (I-76) West to the Downingtown Exit. This is two exits beyond (west of) the Valley Forge exit. After leaving the Turnpike, take PA 100 North/Pottstown Pike for 4 miles. You will pass through the town of Eagle. Turn left onto Conestoga Rd/PA-401 West. Stay on 401 West for 6 miles, then turn right onto PA-345 North/Bulltown Rd. Follow PA-345 North for 4 miles. There will be signs on 345 for French Creek State Park, and Hopewell Lake. SHORT-CUT OPTION provided by Charlie B. (thanks, Charlie!): https://ridewithgps.com/routes/44884572 This option is 53 miles, meeting at the SRT trailhead on Grosstown Rd in Stowe, just off 422. This option would cut off a few miles at both the start and the finish of the 63-mi route. At Mile 0.9, this shorter option joins the metric at Mile 9.8.

    The quintessential beginner's BCP ride, socially pleasant, new to Philadelphia? Or qurious to hidden bicycle routes of the City. This ride is for you. Develop cycling skills , learn the cycling rules of the road and if there is that unfortunate flat tire, be observent on how to fix it from the the leader's assist. We will ride anywhere from 15 to 20 miles with a refreshment stop along the journey. All you need is a working bicycle and a bicycle helmet. Outbound via Warrington and Jamison, return via 202 Greenway Trail southbound toward Horsham and Ambler. Terrain is mostly gently rolling with no severe climbs. Total elevation gain 2167 ft, averaging 52 ft/mile. SHORT-CUT OPTIONS Available - there are some options to shave off a couple of miles before lunch in Doylestown, if riders prefer.     Assemble at 8:20. Depart at 8:25 SHARP! Ride through West Fairmount Park, Bala Cynwyd. Merion, Havertown, Haverford, Bryn Mawr, Devon, Wayne, Conshohocken, etc., finishing with Manayunk Bridge and East Fairmount Park Loops. At mile 26 or so, 35-minute coffee stop at Pour Richards (it's all about the coffee). Many hills (approx. 3,100 feet of climbing), including 10 or so relatively long ones, but no killers. Will regroup if necessary, but riders are expected to maintain the group pace.

    For those in center city Philadelphia who for some reason don't own a car, join me on the SEPTA regional rail line on the Paoli Local to Ardmore, joining up with the Phoenixville D Ride. Meet at 30th Street Amtrak Station by 8:45 am to board the 8:55 train to Ardmore. It arrives at the Ardmore train station by 9:11 am, just in time to grab a latte at the Ardmore Farmers Market before 9:30 meet up there for the Phoenixville D ride start time. On the return, we will either catch the train home to center city at Conshohocken new high platform station or cycle the whole way directly home, center city.     NEW ROUTE, from last year: 11/12/2020: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29773353 Joke in progress: Ride Leader walks into a bar. Bartender asks, "How about a FLAT ride for a change?" Still working on the punchline..... This scenic loop, near Delaware Bay, will take us on quiet, country roads through farmlands, marshlands, & across peaceful creeks and rivers. Terrain is very gentle -- mostly flat, with a couple of small climbs, but these are less than 150 ft each. Total elevation gain is 1178 ft. This route will venture down to the inlet and marina on the Cohansey River. Rest stops at mile 23 (Alloway), mile 38 (Greenwich), and mile 54 (Hancock's Bridge). SHORT-CUT OPTION: There will be a self-guided short-cut for those wanting to ride ~58 miles. The shorter version will not go down to Greenwich or the inlet, but will have two rest stops at Alloway and Hancock's Bridge.     South Jersey Flatland Adventure - 58-Mile Short-Cut

    South Jersey adventure from Fort Mott through Salem and Cumberland Counties, short-cut option (58 miles), at a slightly faster pace (15-16), led by Cyndi Noonan. The 58-mile route does NOT go down toGreenich or the Cohansey River. Two food stops on this route, at Mile 25 and 34. Fort Mott State Park (worth a visit, for the history and the views of the Delaware River) is accessible via 295-S

    Off to Ambler for some of the best pizza in the region. We'll keep a solid pace, and will wait at the top of hills if you can maintain it. Bring a tube, even if tubeless. You might also consider bringing a lock, as we'll be eating inside. Best to download the ridewithgps route. We might divert a bit from the route (perhaps heading out on the MLK and up School House, for example), small detour on the way back from PB, but this route is mostly what we'll do.

    Start off the new Winter Hiking Season and re-connect with your hiking companions with a pretty route along the Wissahickon Creek. This is a 6 mi hike leaving from Bruno's at Germantown & Northwestern Aves. Meander through Andorra Woods, as well as the Yellow Trail on the outbound, and the White Trail on the return. For the hike, please wear sturdy hiking/walking shoes. Walking sticks/poles are not required, but they are helpful for traction.     A casual ride through Fairmount Park and beyond for all ages of riders, i.e., new to group biking or returning to biking after a layoff. There might be a hill or two to help with physical conditioning, but we will stop at the top to catch our breath. We will review cold weather biking, so that our Sunday Rides during the winter will be filled with riders enjoying the great outdoors. Please wear helmet (required by the club.). Please bring extra tube and tools to fix a flat, proper dress for the weather, water, and $ for mid-ride snack-coffee-latte stop.

    Sunday Winter Afternoon Post-Hike Ramble from Bruno's

    An early morning ride to build up the appetite for turkey or your favorite food of choice. This is easy - we ride from Rydal Train Station along Susquehanna Road to Ambler, turn around, and go back to the train station. Note, the first hill is a doozy. This is listed as a B ride, not for the speed but for the power your legs will want to climb the hills. Each loop is 14.2 miles with 1,089 feet of climbing. The goal is to complete three loops. No cue sheets necessary, as you will not leave Susquehanna Road. There are numerous spots available along the route to refill your bottles. No potty at the start. Rydal is on the Septa West Trenton Regional Rail line. Thursday is a holiday; please check the schedule carefully if you plan to travel by train. This 5-star route by Charlie B. is an adpatation of a Bob S. route, through peaceful and quiet countryside in Bucks and Hunterdon Counties. Today, we are deliberately avoiding crowded shopping areas. From the starting point at Holicong Park in Buckingham, we cross the river to Hunterdon County, NJ at Stockton. We return to PA via the bike/ped bridge at Bulls Island to Lumberville. Lunch stop at Frenchtown at Mile 28. We have a choice of convenience stores, as well as cafes. Across the street from one of the convenience stores is the Frenchtown Town Park, where we can sit to eat. After lunch, we have ~9 flat miles on River Rd/NJ-29, heading toward the bridge at Bulls Island. Total climbing is 2330 ft, averaging 51 ft/mile - not too extreme. Most of the climbing is after Stockton, but it levels off as we head toward Frenchtown. On the return, we can stop if needed for a quick bathroom or snack break at Bulls Island, or Lumberville Genteral Store.     In honor of Thanksgiving turkey, this ride is a revival of the late Peter Odell's classic route to the Turkey Point Lighthouse, on the scenic and peaceful peninsula between the Elk River and the North East River, at the head of the Chesapeake Bay. Recently updated by Charlie B., with route enhancements. Mostly quiet roads in northwestern Delaware and northeastern Maryland. Wawa at Mile 17. Lunch stop at mile 19, in the adorable town of Northeast, MD. We can eat out lunch by the river in the town park. ScenicTurkey Point Lighthouse at the tip of the peninsula is at mile 33. (The Lighthouse Trail runs right along the perimeter of the peninsula.) On the return, we have a rest stop at a market/deli at mile 45, as well as a Wawa option at Mile 50.5 in Elkton. Total elevation gain is 3913 feet. Mostly rolling terrain, with some steep climbs (up-down-up-down) close to the lighthouse at the tip of the peninsula. We will stop to regroup as needed. Travel time from Philadelphia to Newark is ~one hour. Driving Directions from Philadelphia: I-95 South into DE, then DE-273 West toward Newark/Univ. of DE.     Sunday Morning Hike along the Cresheim & Wissahickon Creeks

    Hike Moderate Pace on Moderate Trails, 6.6+/- miles. Meet at St Martin's Trailhead. The hike leaves at 9:30 am. The on-line route map is https://ridewithgps.com/routes/32031232.

    Pretty route along the Cresheim and Wissahickon Creeks. This is a 6.6 mi hike from St Martin's Trailhead (intersection of St. Martin's Lane and Huron St, where St. Martin's dead-ends into the park) to Rex Avenue Bridge, then to Mt. Airy Bridge and back, mostly on the Orange and Yellow Trails. Passes Valley Green just before the 4-mile mark. For the hike, please wear sturdy hiking/walking shoes. Walking sticks/poles are not required, but they are very helpful for traction, especially on hills and/or eneven patches. SHORT-CUT OPTION: On the second half of the hike, staying straight on Forbidden Drive, rather than turning onto the Yellow Trail, will shave off some ditance.     Casual Ride through Fairmount Park and beyond. It is a ride for all ages, who are new to biking in a group or getting back to biking after a layoff. Please wear helmet(required by the club.). Please bring extra tube and tool to fix a flat, water, proper dress for weather conditions, and $ for mid ride snack stop. There might be a hill or two, which is good for conditioning, but we will stop at top of hills to catch our breaths.

    Jimmy Mack has passed the baton to me once again this week. I know, I know, not the wisest perhaps. So, let's go to Jersey to see if we can see some holiday displays, sans lights. We will make it to Trouble Brewing in Haddon Heights, riding past Cooper Hospital in Camden and then along the river in Pennsauken, to then follow Patco to Haddon Heights. For our return we will wind our way through neighborhoods and back to Camden where we will see the Black Panther sculputure and the glorious arch of the original Camden high school . Let's meet at the 11th and Locust PATCO platform ( take the elevator down and meet us past the turnstile on the actual platform) at 9:45 and we will catch the 9:54 train over to Camden Broadway station arrival time is 10:02. We will cycle south from the station to Washington Township. Pick up a bike trail in The Wedgewood County Club. When we reach the Washington Lake Park, we will do once around.
