This scenic route by Charlie B. is a slightly shorter version of his Best of Lan.Co. metric century. Food stop opportunities at Mile 18, Mile 28 (coffee shop), Mile 34, and Ice Cream at Mile 40. At Mile 28, there is a park with a rest room, then, a scenic covered bridge. Total elevation gain 2504 ft, averaging 52 ft/mile. Most of the climbing is in the first half of the ride...the second half is gentle. Overall, lush countryside, farms, and peaceful landscapes. START/FINISH: Salisbury Township Park on White Horse Rd is near Lancaster Pike/US-30 - convenience stores on Route 30, if you need a pre-ride coffee. There are restrooms at Salisbury Park. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Enjoy scenic adventures by bike on most Fridays, throughout the year. Explore pretty, peaceful roads in suburban counties. The Mums are a spectacular sight when in full bloom in early October. We continue our ride to Snoozy's cafe in Schwenksville for hand dipped ice cream or lunch on their deck by the trail. The route is on paved roads and the Perkioman trail. The Perky is largely surfaced in crushed stone, although some sections are paved, but a hybrid, gravel bike or mountain bike is best suited for trail conditions. No one dropped. Leader: Mary Jo Harris, , 215-760-4641Let’s take in some nature at the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge and Cobbs Creek Park. We will start off down the SRT, jog over to Grey’s Ferry, and cruise down Lindbergh Blvd. to the JHNWR just beyond 84th and Lindbergh. We will make a brief stop along the way at Dunkin’ Donuts at 76th St. If you would rather bring a sandwich and something to drink from home, we will stop at a pavilion along the Refuge lake to relax for a few minutes and enjoy the scenery. Depending on the condition of the trail, we may ride around the lake. If the trail is wet, we will only ride over the part that is packed and dry. The return ride will follow the Cobbs Creek Trail up to the Chestnut Street Bike lane which intersects with the SRT to finish our trip.

Leader: Linda McGrane, , 267-251-7862SPECIAL EDITION for October 11: Cycle from Flourtown to Holmesburg, for the Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony at the new trailhead for the Pennypath Path at State Rd. Cycle through Flourtown, Glenside, Jenkintown, Fox Chase and Rockledge, on our way to connecting to the Pennypack Trail at the Verree Rd trailhead. The autumn foliage is beginning to turn more colorful. Continue on the Pennypack Trail to the eastern end, at State Rd. The Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony is at Mile 20. After the festivities, we meander around the riverside path at Pennypack at the Delaware. On the return, quick coffee/lunch/snack break at Mile 24, in the Torresdale neighborhood - choice of places to stop (Wawa, McD's, diner, etc.). Return to the Pennypack Trail to head back to Verree Rd trailhead, then on to Flourtown. Toward the end of the ride, if another rest break is needed, we can stop in Rockledge at Mile 34. Total elevation gain is 1984 ft. (Uh-oh! Is this Orwellian?) The average amount of climbing is a pretty tame 45 ft/mile. BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham (ad-hoc ride)

The BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham is a landmark of Hindu Architecture and Culture in New Jersey. Spanning 185 acres and standing 191 feet tall, Akshardham is a magnificent Mahamandir (Hindu house of worship) carved in stone according to ancient Hindu scriptures. It is the second largest Hindu mandir in the world and one of the most unique Hindu stone mandirs built in the last 600 years. Breathtaking from every angle, all visitors are welcome to explore and experience the beauty and tranquility of BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham. Lunch will be at the Shayona Café serving all-vegetarian cuisine and is the perfect way to experience some traditional and authentic tastes of India. Return to Philly via the Trenton Transit Center via Septa Train 1724 departing at 4:04 pm with arrival to 30th St. scheduled at 4:52 pm IMPORTANT NOTES: 1. Annual Round Valley Reservoir Adventure - CO-LEADERS WELCOME.
Level B-/C+: 13-14mph, 62 miles. Meet at Holcombe Jimison Farmstead, 1605 Daniel Bray Highway, Lambertville, NJ 08530. The ride leaves at 9:30 am. The on-line route map is https://ridewithgps.com/routes/40953883.
Leader: Linda McGrane, , 267-251-7862Very pretty and scenic meander through Hunterdon County, including quaint towns and bridge crossings over the Raritan River. On our way to the reservoir and to lunch in Whitehouse Station, we have a convenience store rest stop at Mile 14. Cervenka Farm Market is at Mile 18.5. Scenery break at the reservoir at Mile 28. Heading into Whitehouse Station for lunch, there is a park with bathrooms at Mile 34. Lunch at Jerry's Brooklyn Grille at Mile 35. On the return, there is a Wawa at Mile 44. Total elevation gain is 3105 ft, with most of the climbing in the first half. Start/Finish is the gravel parking lot behind the Holcombe Jimison Farmstead. There is no restroom in this parking lot, but restrooms are available nearby at the CVS. Also, at Mile 2.9 of the route, there are restrooms at Prallsville Mills. This ride will be another annual autumm view of the Wissahickon Valley from the top of the Henry Ave. Bridge. Please wear helmet. Please bring extra-tubes and tools to fix a flat, water, sunscreen, $ for mid-ride snack stop, and colorful fall clothing. We will take a group picture from the top of the bridge to see if the group is more or less colorful than the Wissahickon Valley at this time of the year. There is a long uphill section, but we will regroup to catch our breathes as needed.

Total elevation gain 2504 ft, averaging 52 ft/mile. Most of the climbing is in the first half of the ride...the second half is gentle. Overall, lush countryside, farms, and peaceful landscapes. START/FINISH: Salisbury Township Park on White Horse Rd is near Lancaster Pike/US-30 - convenience stores on Route 30, if you need a pre-ride coffee. There are restrooms at Salisbury Park. Leader: Eve Gentieu, , 516-902-7921Two events - revolutionary reenactment at Red Bank Battlefield and last tour of the year at Tinicum Rear Range Lighthouse in Paulsboro, NJ. We’ll head over Ben Franklin Bridge, then head to the river path to bypass part of Camden. Bring some food for a picnic at Red Bank or grab something at the convenience store close by where we can stop. There will be venders and food at battlefield as well. We’ll stay at least an hour to allow time to see reenactment at 11:30 and/or tour the house and medicinal garden. Tinicum Rear Range lighthouse is 6 miles further - tours from noon to 4 - donations requested. Lyn and I rode this route on a Saturday and it was pretty tranquil. There is a traffic circle or 2 which is the least tranquil part of the ride. I’m guessing we’ll get back to Cosmic around 4. It is roughly 4 miles to the start of the silent ride at 52nd & Locust. The memorial silent bike ride, organized by the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia, will then roll off at 10:30am to cycle approx 5 miles from 52nd & Locust to 11th & Vine. An Angel Bike will then be placed at the 11th & Vine crash site. After the Angel Bike is mounted, will pedal about two miles back to the Azalea Garden.

Some climbing of 800 to 1000 feet. First part of ride will generally mean a climb into Fairmount Park, across the Strawberry Mansion Bridge up to Chamounix. And then proceed up Bryn Mawr Avenue. and on to our final destination of Narberth, Ardmore or Wynnewood. On an ad hoc basis we may include new destinations and advance notice will be provided along with details. Always a fun group of friendly people so come on out!
