Sat August 1, 2009 - Terri's 50, Let's Ride 80 to Carversville (Re-Scheduled from July 25)
Level B, 14-16 mph, 80 +/- miles. Italian Fountain. The ride leaves at 7:15 am. Bring your cow bells to Carversville to celebrate with someone who simply loves to ride! Will pick up riders at Fort Washington State Park Flourtown Picnic Area for an "on time departure" at 8:30 am. Cue sheet from Flourtown Picnic Area to Carversville. Follows Howard's cue sheet from his ride in May. Although highly doubtful there will be another Carversville festival, live jazz, and cookie contest, what you will get is a lunch stop at the Carversville general store, and the joy of pedalling through tree farms and over quiet country roads.

Sat August 1, 2009 - Delightful, Delicious Saturday D Ride
Level D, 9-12 mph, 10-20 miles. Formal entrance to the Azalea Garden, next to the Italian Fountain, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. Flat to gently rolling hills...although the Art Museum is at sea level and there is no where to go but up. As we build stamina and skills we may go for longer rides and include more hills - it depends on who is in the group. No one is left behind. You must wear a helmet. Be sure to bring something to drink and some rides may include coffee/breakfast stops. Bring an extra tube for your tire. **Check back here the weekdays before the ride for the ride leader and the ride details. We will smile and feel the wind in our faces.

Sat August 1, 2009 - Beat the Heat
Level B/B-, 14 mph, 52 miles. Bull's Island Rec. Area near Stockton, NJ. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. Lots of no/low-traffic, shady roads on this one. Terrain is rolling with one longer climb near the beginning and one immediately after lunch. Pace will be manageable. The Peacock Store at mile 30 will be the only place to get eats and drinks, so bring at least two water bottles. Bring some grub and your Speedo for a picnic lunch and a refreshing dip the Delaware River off the park’s boat launch after the ride. Cue sheets provided. This ride will start PROMPTLY at 9:15, so plan your arrival accordingly. E-mail for directions by Thursday. A go/no-go message will be posted on the ride calendar by 7:45 if rain could interfere or excessive heat is forecast.

Level B-, 14-15 mph, 68 miles. VFNHP. The ride leaves at 8:30 am. Valley Forge to north west Montgomery County. Mostly flat to rolling hills with 2-3 short climbs. This ride will regroup as needed, but it is not a ride for beginners. Bring $$, snacks, H2O. Wawa and McD's at 17 and 47 miles. Starts 8:30 AM from Valley Forge Park visitor center lower parking lot. Directions: route 422 to Route 23 exit. West on 23. Straight into park, stay right at bottom of hill to lower parking lot.

A new ride destination for me that should be fun. We'll stop at Evansburg State Park on the way out and have a take-out lunch on the deck at the Train Stop Cafe in Schwenksville on the way back. A very nice ride on mostly low traffic/scenic country roads. Bring lots of liquids and snacks as stops are spread out. Accurate cue sheet for those looking to ride faster or slower on their own. Meet at IKEA Parking Lot, 400 Alan Wood Rd, Conshohocken, PA 19428 (park far away from the building). For D riders who want to extend their distance. 99.6% flat. 91.3% on the Valley Forge, Schuykill River and Perkiomen Bike paths, with just a mile or so on the road into Phoenixville where we pass the theatre made famous by the 1958 movie "The Blob" starring Steve McQueen. One food stop.

The ride will take us from Valley Forge, to Ridley Creek State Park, to Marsh Creek State Park, back to Valley Forge. Most of the ride will be on lightly traveled roads. The entire route is rolling hills, with some serious climbs interspersed. Two quick rest stops and one sit down lunch stop are scheduled.

We tour parts of SE Chester and NE Delaware Counties at a relaxing pace on paved mainly flat roads with a few hills - total climb about 1800 feet. View some great scenery and real estate in Tredyffrin, Easttown, Radnor and Newtown. No one left behind as we stop as required to regroup. A food stop is planned. Cue sheets provided. Level D, 9-12 mph, 10-20 miles. Formal entrance to the Azalea Garden, next to the Italian Fountain, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. Flat to gently rolling hills...although the Art Museum is at sea level and there is no where to go but up. As we build stamina and skills we may go for longer rides and include more hills - it depends on who is in the group. No one is left behind. You must wear a helmet. Level B/B- , 13-15 mph, 56 miles. Bulls Island, on Rt. 29 in NJ, three miles north of Stockton. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. New ride with many new roads. A few short hills to climb, but most of the ride goes through flat and rolling terain. This is a route with no or little traffic on mostly township and country roads. Must bring sufficient water and food, as there are no stores on the route until we get to Frenchtown at mile 45. We'll eat on the saddle or may stop on the side of the road, but will stop at any time if needed.

We will travel on SEPTA R5 train #8513 , which originates, from Market Street East, at 8:10am for Thorndale. Riders can board at any R5 station along the route (leader will board at St. Davids at 8:47am). . Board the rear car, of the train, which will be reserved for bikes. Get your ticket from the machine at the station. Otherwise, you pay a surcharge on the train. If you want a time and station, contact the leader. (option: Join the group at Thorndale). Arrive Thorndale 9:26. Sit down lunch at Isaac's Deli in Strasburg. Bring the usuals, and money. Return to Thorndale for 3:43 departure for faster group or the 5:13 for slower group. Follow signs for 23 W - be L at the Y then at the end of the exit, at the traffic light, turn L onto Valley Forge Rd/Ro. The ride leaves at 10:00 am. We will be meeting at Valley Forge Park and riding through the park to cross a covered bridge then toil up a few hills and plateaus in the countryside around the park.
