No hills (when have you head this before?) We will stop along the way at the Out Bound Train Depot in Conshohocken for a coffee/latte and pastry. Sat June 4, 2011 - Annual Trek to Mount Gretna
Level B/B-, 14-15 mph, 75/48 miles. Shady Maple Farm Market on PA-23 in Goodville, Lancaster Co. (PA Turnpike West to Morgantown/Exit 298. Take PA-10 South for 1 mile to PA-23 West. Right at . The ride leaves at 9:00 am. Beautiful ride through Lancaster and Lebanon Counties for an al fresco lunch at the historic Jigger Shop in the town of Mount Gretna. Moderately to dramatically rolling terrain with a few flat and sustained climbing sections on the way out. After the short climb out of Mount Gretna, the way back will be noticeably easier and will include a brief water stop. Stock up on fresh produce, Amish goodies, and baked goods after the ride. Anyone wanting to ride a slower pace and/or do fewer miles can opt for a self-guided (after mile 21.3), less hilly 48 mile route which skips Mt. Gretna. We will start PROMPTLY AT 9:00 (no exceptions), so please plan to arrive by 8:45. If you get ahead or fall behind you will need to be able to follow the cue sheet. If it's your first time doing this ride, please contact leader by evening of June 3 with questions re. driving directions or parking. Bad weather, including extreme heat, will cancel. If you are looking for a faster ride (B- level) there is a ride leaving from the Italian Fountain at 8:45 am lead by Terri Clark and Rob Swartley. It is called the Training Ride to Paoli and it is listed in the BCP Ride Calendar. The ride leaves at 9:15 am. Frequently we ride to Ambler but we may ride to other locations such as North Wales or Devon. Sat June 4, 2011 - Adopt-AHighway road clean-up and ride to Phoenixville Farmers Market
Level ALL Classes, 11 mph, ~25 miles. in the first parking lot West of the Knox Covered Bridge (c. 1865) on Yellow Springs Road, at PA252, in Valley Forge Park. There is a PENNDOT Adopt-A-Highway sign at the entrance to the lot. . The ride leaves at 10:00 am. Our Adopt-A-Highway road clean-up is a civic event jointly sponsored by BBC and BCP. Bring your bike and gear. The clean-up takes about one hour. After the clean-up, we will do C and D paced rides (all ride together; No one dropped) to the popular Phoenixville Farmers Market and lunch at the famous Fitzwater Station on the Schuylkill Canal, in Mont Clare. And, for all who help with the clean up, we will deal poker during lunch. The three top hands will receive a free lunch. Bring $ for lunch in case you don’t win at poker. SEPTA bus routes #124 & #125 stop close by the park. Call one of the leaders if you need directions to the start. PLEASE NOTE: We're doing this clean-up on a Saturday and at a later time so that you can come up from Philly to join us. We need nine people for a full crew. Then we'll ride over the beautiful Ben Franklin Bridge walkways, catch the sunset, & watch an inning of Camden Riversharks baseball from high atop the bridge walkway. Fri June 10, 2011 - Bull's Island Bike Camping Trip
Level C, 12 mph, 60/40/65 miles. Rocky Statue in front of the Philadelphia Art Museum. The ride leaves at 8:00 am. This is a three day bike camping trip, self contained meaning no SAG, carrying everything one needs on the bicycle, June 10, 11, & 12th (note the change in dates from previous announcements) because reservations need to be made with a min of two nights. Bull’s Island Natural Area (24 acres) This natural area comprises a portion of a small forested island surrounded by the Delaware River and the Delaware & Raritan Canal. We will cycle across Eastern Montgomery County and mid Bucks County which means rolling hills before descending to New Hope where we will cross the Delaware River and up the New Jersey side to Stockton. We will buy provisions there for our dinner, breakfast and lunch before heading a few more miles to the camp ground. Day two we will cycle in the area. I am recommending cycling to Upper Black Eddy to take a flying trapeze class from Fly School Circus Arts. www.flyschoolcircusarts.com! Maybe dinner out that Sat. night. The return ride will follow edge of the Delaware River into Philly. Shared cost of food and camp site.

Fri June 10, 2011 - Exploring New Roads in Lebanon County (Research/Preview Ride)
Level B-, 14-16 mph, 65-66 miles. QuikMart gas station/convenience store on Pennsylvania Ave near 309, at the PA Turnpike Ft. Washington Interchange.. The ride leaves at 8:00 am. Discover some picturesque new routes, courtesy of the Lebanon Valley Bicycle Club. Cycle through Amish & Mennonite farmlands, and green vistas. Lebanon County is filled with peaceful landscapes. If you have time for a long adventure ride on a weekday, I'd love your company. We will be road-testing the cue sheets today. (Cue sheets & route suggestions from the LVBC.) After today's preview ride, I will post this route later this summer on a weekend. The route begins at South Hills Park on Lincoln Ave in South Lebanon Township. We can carpool from the Fort Washington Interchange of the PA Turnpike (Route 309), meeting at 8:00am (to leave by 8:15). To drive directly to South Hills Park: take the Main PA Turnpike westbound to the Lebanon/Lancaster Interchange (PA Route 72). Exit onto 72 North for 4-5 miles to Rocherty Rd. Turn right at Rocherty (Sheetz station on the corner). Stay on Rocherty for ~ one mile to Lincoln Ave. Turn left onto Lincoln, and follow Lincoln to South Hills Park. Parking lot is on the right, just past the Lebanon VA Hospital. Meeting time at South Hills Park should be ~9:30-9:45.

Come join the ride as we travel to Malvern for the tastiest tomato pie the 'burbs have to offer. If you are not keen on tomato pie....there is always WaWa (or your own PB&J sandwich). Our Center City group will ride to Narbeth village park to meet up with Bob Silverman and folks starting from Narbeth park. (see separate ride listing). No cue sheet from Italian Fountain to Narbeth...we will ride as a group. The cue sheet will detail the ride RT from Narbeth to Malvern. I will lead a steady B to B- ride, as I'm reserving some mojo for the French Creek Iron Tour ride on Sunday. You will either love this ride or hate it. Many have told me that this ride reminds them of BCP's Philly to NYC Labor Day weekend ride because it's so varied. If you don't want to do the 80 mile loop from Flourtown consider doing the 55 mile loop from Bryn Athyn College in Huntingdon Valley which leaves at 9am ( see separate ride listing). Level Multi-level, 12-18 mph, 55 miles. Bryn Athyn College parking lot on the corner of Tomlinson Rd. and Buck Rd.in Huntingdon Valley, Pa.. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. The "Bristol Stomp" is back by popular demand. You will either love this ride or hate it. Many have told me that this ride reminds them of BCP's Philly to NYC Labor Day weekend ride because it's so varied. If you want to do more than 55 miles consider doing the 80 mile loop from Flourtown which leaves at 8am and meets up withy the Bryn Athyn riders at 9am ( see separate ride listing). Longer than the usual Saturday C+ ride, this ride will use some of the old Freedom Valley ride roads out toward Valley Forge. Be ready for some hills! We'll keep a steady pace and effort (rolling speed on flat terrain 15 - 16 mph). Bring money for a snack; we'll stop at Valley Forge Pizzeria for lunch (there is also a coffeeshop next door). Level C, 12 mph, 25 miles. Cosmic Cafe, Lloyd Hall, # 1 Boathouse Road, Kelly Drive. The ride leaves at 10:00 am. Let's cycle down to the Phila. Navy Yard and explore the facilities. View the battle ships and one small aircraft carrier and the other streets down there. It is like a forgotten area of Philly which most do not get a chance to explore. We will have lunch at a simple restaurant on base. On the way home we will explore the new Washington Ave pier park, the new Race St Pier Park, and the one that started it all, Penn Treaty Park along the Delaware River. We will envision the city's MASTER PLAN FOR THE CENTRAL DELAWARE, transforming Philadelphia's waterfront. This is a grimy city ride, stopping at all traffic lights that are red.

Fri June 24, 2011 - Bryn Athyn to Newtown, Bucks County, via Lake Luxembourg (Core Creek State Park)
Level B-/C+, 13-15 mph, 45 miles. Bryn Athyn College, across from Bryn Athyn Cathedral. Huntingdon Pike (PA-232) & Tomlinson Rd. turn at traffic light at Tomlinson onto College campus. Turn left into parking lot immediately before Buck Rd. The ride leaves at 9:30 am. Encore of one of Tom Madle's popular and scenic routes, enjoyed by many. We'll ride to Newtown & Wrightstown, Bucks County. Lunch stop in Newtown (plenty of food options available). Return to Bryn Athyn via Pennypack Preserve. Cue sheets provided, and we will stop to regroup as needed. Terrain is flat to rolling, with one or two major climbs.

Level C, 12 mph, 50 miles. Rocky statue in front of the Philadelpha Art Museum. The ride leaves at 8:00 am. Let's try this ride again out to Ridley Creek State Park in Delaware Country since it was rained out last month. We will do the full loop around in the the park. We will also see where the Youth Hostel was located. Of course there will be a lunch stop before or after the park. There will be a different route back. There are a few hills to build character. Rain cancels ride one hour before to ride start.

Level C+, B-, B, 13-16 mph, 52-64 miles. Meet at Ft. Washington State Park, Flourtown Picnic Area. The ride leaves at 8:30 am. Two start locations and three paces. Starts 8:30 sharp in Flourtown for 64 miles and 9:05 at UDHS for 52 miles. A very scenic ride on some nice Montgomery and Bucks County roads. One of my favorites. Expect mostly rolling hills, good company and an accurate cue sheet. Quick breaks on way out and return. Co-listed with SCU.

Level b-, 13-15 mph, 54 miles. COS. The ride leaves at 8:30 am. HILLY. Loops through VFNP along Yellow Springs up and over some steeps grades and along some lovely country roads to Kimberton, then back up and over the ridge, and up a steep grade to cross Route 30 and loop to the south before ending up back in Wayne. Only one food stop at the half way point so bring plenty of snacks and water.

Level B-/C+, 13-15 mph, 57 miles. Lower-level parking lot behind the Visitors Center at Valley Forge National Park. The ride leaves at 9:30 am. Hilly but lovely and scenic loop through Chester County, crossing French Creek on peaceful roads. Convenience store quick stop at mile 23, then at mile 33, a sit-down lunch stop at the bakery/cafe in St. Peter's, which overlooks the Creek. Elevation gain is 4928 ft. We will stop to regroup after climbs, as needed. On the return trip, there is a short-cut option which will shave off about 4.5 miles.
