There are many old buildings in the city that are truly works of art - amazing sculptures hidden in plain view. The problem is that we are usually too busy to stop and look up. On this ride we will stop - and look up! We will visit about a dozen diverse, quirky and interesting buildings - most over 100 years old. We'll learn not only about the buildings and architects who designed them, but also a bit about the history of Philadelphia. You have the option of either starting at my house at 39 Lanfair Road, Cheltenham (where we will be leaving at 8:00) or meeting us at the entrance to the Azalea Garden behind the Art Museum (leaving at 9:00). The ride to and from my house will be about 35 miles. If you start at the Azalea Garden, the ride will be about 15 miles. We should be back at the Azalea Garden by noon and back my house by 1:30. Bring snacks and plenty of water - it's going to be a beautiful day! The ride through center city will be flat, but the ride to and from my house will have a couple hills (Midvale Avenue), so be prepared for a bit of climbing if you start at my house. The ride will be at a leisurely pace and we will be making plenty of stops. No cue sheets. HELMET REQUIRED! You must be comfortable riding on city streets. Make sure that your bike is in good working order and bring along a spare tube (or two). If you have any questions or need directions to my house, email me or call. Cue sheets will not be available.
