Come join us for beautiful rides on low-traffic roads A strong headlight and taillight are required. Fri March 3, 2017 - Friday Frolic w/LMc. FT. WASHINGTON STATE PARK to Panera Cafe in TROOPER/AUDUBON - HOT SOUP on a Chilly Day
Level B-/C+, 13-15 mph, 42 miles. Meet at Ft. Washington State Park Hawk Watch Parking Lot. The ride leaves at 9:45 am. Pretty route from the HAWK WATCH at Ft. Washington State Park to the Panera Cafe in Audubon/Trooper. Outbound via Blue Bell, Center Square, and Eagleville. Return via West Norriton, Conshohocken, and Plymouth Meeting. After lunch, the return route includes a flat, 9-mile stretch on the Schuylkill River Trail. Sit-down, indoor lunch stop for something hot at Panera is at mile 26. On our way out to lunch, if a quick rest break is needed for bathroom or snack, at mile 16, there is access to a nearby Dunkin' Donuts. Heebner Park, which has bathroom facilities, is also at mile 16. Total elevation gain is 2016 feet. Tallest climb is Bean Rd > Potshop at mile 15. After lunch, the return route is more gentle. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Scenic adventures by bike on virtually every Friday, throughout the year. OK, you know already, I am training to cycle the Southern Tier ACA Route from San Diego, CA to St Augustine, FL starting March 12th. Come train with me by cycling to Tyler State Park up by Newtown, in Bucks County. We will take the hillier upper route out and the slightly down hilly, lower,city route back. Journey to the West is one of the four classics of Chinese literature. Published in the 16th century, it chronicles the quest of aspiring Buddhist monk Tang Sanzang to capture demons, tame the Monkey King, retrieve Buddhist scriptures from India, and vanquish greed, lust and other sins of China's people through enlightenment. A 2013 movie of part of the tale, Journey to the West: Capturing the Demons, set several box office records in China. In keeping with Sanzang's journey, please join Helen and me for a hike beginning at the Eastern end of the gorge traveling west to strange new lands where we will overcome the demons of winter lethargy, tame the seasonal blues, retrieve a snack from our back pack, and vanquish the sin of inactivity. Outbound via Plymouth Meeting, Blue Bell, and Gwynedd Mercy University campus. Indoor rest stop at mile 21 at the GIANT Market Food Court in Springhouse. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Scenic, 35-ish mile loop, usually through Montgomery County or Lower Bucks, with a brief rest stop. We leave from the Jacobs Engineering parking lot on Ash Street on the left closest to the river and ride to the Art Museum via Umbria Street, Main Street Manayunk, and, if there are enough of us, MLK Drive. We'll explore pretty, peaceful roads in suburban counties -- Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, etc. Starting points will vary, so that we can cycle through different regions. We ride to Limerick and travel the Schuylkill River Trail (SRT) back to quaint, downtown Phoenixville, and the Polish-American Club for a late leprechaun breakfast (call it brunch if you like), followed by a short, flat ride home. Special and scenic adventure from Doylestown through Upper Bucks County, into Hunterdon County, NJ, on [mostly] peaceful and pretty country roads. Outbound via Buckingham, Lahaska, and Ringoes, returning via Stockton, Bulls Island, and Carversville. Before crossing the river into NJ, we have an optional quick Wawa stop at mile 17. Celebrate the return of spring and longer days by joining us for daytime/nighttime rides until the end of April. Starting in the daylight, these rides continue in the dark for another 2-2.5 hours. These are beautiful rides on low-traffic roads. A strong headlight and taillight are required. No one dropped, regroup as necessary, but please be prepared to ride the advertised pace on rolling to hilly terrain. Precipitation and icy road conditions cancel. Thu March 30, 2017 - Last March Ride to Doylestown for Coffee (ad-hoc ride)
Level B-/C+, 14.5-15.0 mph, 76 +/- miles. Meet at Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 8:15 am. Assemble at 8:15. Depart at 8:20 SHARP! Standard club route to Doylestown, with possible brief stop at Upper Dublin H.S. (mile 18 or so) for bathroom and/or to pick up additional riders. Return via 202, Gywnyd Mercy, etc., with finish over Manayunk Bridge and through Bala Cynwyd. 30-minute coffee stop in Doylestown and optional 30 minute coffee/quick lunch stop on ride back in Manayunk. (Its all about the coffee!) Will regroup if necessary after long hills, but riders are expected to achieve posted mph, which is what our computers should read upon completion of ride. This ride will be slightly faster, but slightly shorter, than Howard's typical Tuesday ride and will join the "Last March Ride to Doylestown for Coffee" departing from the Italian Fountain. Standard club route to Doylestown for a 30-minute coffee break. (Its all about the coffee!) Return via 202, Gywnyd Mercy, etc. Will regroup after long hills if necessary, but riders are expected to achieve posted mph, which is what our computers should read upon completion of ride. Level C+/B-, 13-15 mph, daylight miles. north Penn High School - meet behind the school near the bus depot. The ride leaves at 6:00 pm. Thursday evening C+/B- ride from North Penn High School. We will meet at 6pm every Thursday evening through the end of September. The rides will begin the season at 13-14mph and increase to occasional 15-16mph rides as the season slowly progresses. The riding distance is determined by the amount of sunlight. Come on out and discover new roads and routes. We never repeat a route during a single season. Cue sheets will not be available.

Fri March 31, 2017 - Friday Frolic w/Linda. Centre Square/Whitpain to Valley Forge, depending on the weather
Level B-/C+, 13-15 mph, 35-45 miles. Centre Square Park, Dekalb Pike/202, between Yost Rd and Jolly Rd. The ride leaves at 12:30 pm. For 3/31: Leader has to work in the morning, so this ride will meet in the afternoon. Meet at Centre Square Park on Dekalb Pike/202 between Yost Rd and Jolly Rd, next to St. Helena's Church. Meet in the rear parking lot, near the porta-potty. From Centre Square, we'll ride down to the flat Schuylkill River Trail and head outbound toward Valley Forge or beyond, e.g., Phoenixville, in search of a good cup of coffee. Plan is to return before 5:00pm. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Scenic adventures by bike on most Fridays, throughout the year. Explore pretty, peaceful roads in suburban counties -- Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, etc. Starting points will vary, so that we can cycle through different regions. Please check the daily calendar for details of each Friday's route -- terrain, mileage, rest stops, etc. Cue sheets and on-line route map will be provided for each ride. Scheduled for virtually every Friday throughout the year, with a few exceptions here & there. If weather conditions are not conducive to cycling, this ride may be replaced by a hike/walk (on foot). As long as we are enjoying outdoor physical exercise, and Mother Nature, in the company of friends, we'll have a memorable outing. Cue sheets will be available.
