Tue January 1, 2019 - NEW YEAR'S DAY HOT SOUP RIDE - CO-LEADER(S) WELCOME
Level B-: 14mph, 54 miles. Meet at Upper Dublin High School. The ride leaves at 9:30 am. Special route from Upper Dublin High School to the Wegman's Food Court in Collegeville. Outbound via Blue Bell, East Norriton, and Eagleville, return via Oaks, Schuylkill River Trail, Norristown Farm Park, and Ambler. On the outbound, we have a quick rest stop for bathroom & snack at a Wawa in East Norriton at mile 16. Indoor lunch stop at Wegman's is at mile 30. Most of the climbing is before the lunch stop. Total elevation gain is 2845 feet. The return includes a 5-mile stretch on the flat SRT. No one dropped, but we will try to maintain the advertised pace. Tue January 1, 2019 - Scenic Kimberton ride (ad-hoc ride)
Level C+: 12mph, 35 miles. Meet at Chesterbrook - Wilson Farm Park - Lee Rd at Wilson Rd. The ride leaves at 9:30 am. Explore a few new roads to Kimberton. We will start on the Chester Valley Trail to warm up the legs, then there will be climbing (Graded and paced accordingly). I am out of shape, so if any riders want to drop me, feel free. The Q sheet will be accurate. Short stop at Kimberton Whole Foods, then back. Note the later start time for those who had a long night ringing in the New Year. Cue sheets will be available.

Tue January 1, 2019 - Let's ride to the Mummer's Parade
Level D: 10-13mph, 14-30 miles. Meet at Jacobs Engineering Parking Lot. The ride leaves at 11:00 am. OWLS (Older, Wiser, Longer, Slower) paced ride for any age through Fairmount Park and beyond. Distance will depend on assemble group's experience and weather conditions. There will be some instructional and safety instruction. Bring helmet (required by the club), extra tube, water, proper clothing for cold weather, $ for mid-ride snack. Good holiday spirit is welcomed We will ride the Schuylkill River Trail to the Kimmel Center to watch part of the parade from there. Then we will head to the Cosmic Café for a nice snack. We should plan on taking the train back to Conshohocken. There is a 10:26 AM train from 30th Street Station arriving in Conshohocken at 10:44 We will aim to catch the 5:26 PM train back to Conshohocken. You may ride back to Conshohocken on the SRT if you don't want to take a train.

Level C+: 13.5-14.5mph, 25-35 miles. Meet at Reynolds Dog Park, Longford Rd, Oaks, PA. The ride leaves at 6:30 pm. The nighttime Phoenixville Dog rides will continue until daylight savings time begins. A strong headlight and taillight are required. The rides are on low traffic roads and feature rolling to hilly terrain. No one dropped, but please be prepared to ride the advertised pace over rolling to hilly terrain. Precipitation cancels. Leader has to work in the morning to make up for New Year's Day off, so today's Friday Frolic will be in the afternoon. Easy, mostly flat route from Bala Cynwyd, along the SRT, almost to Phoenixville, then to Oaks for a quick coffee stop. On the outbound portion, we cross the Schuylkill River on the Pencoyd Bridge. On the return, we cross the river on the Manayunk Trail Bridge. Total climbing 1440 feet. At the mid-way coffee stop, we have a choice of Wawa, Dunkin' Donuts, or Starbucks. Hike Moderate Pace on Moderate Trails, 6.5 - 8 miles. Meet at Bruno's, Northwestern and Germantown Aves. The hike leaves at 9:30 am. Please join Tracey and Gary on a hike of the beautiful Wissahickon Gorge. We'll have fun as we find our way around this beautiful part of Fairmount Park. We'll mostly be on the trails but there are also flatter options along the way for those who want a more direct way back. The pace, which always provides a good workout, will be determined by the group. The distance we cover is usually around 7 miles. The trails can get wet and icy so be sure you have appropriate footwear (waterproof shoes and ice cleats depending on the conditions). For 1/6 - Time-saving, out-and-back trip on the SRT to the Dunkin' Donuts/Wawa/Starbucks in Oaks for hot coffee at the half-way point. The trail will save us some time, due to no cars, no red lights. LIGHTS are MANDATORY, due to early sunset. Plan is to return by 5:00pm. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Scenic loop, usually thru Montgomery Co. or Lower Bucks, with brief rest stop. Put yourself in one gear lower than you normally ride in so the legs will stoke the heater of the body. Scenic loop from the Hawk Watch point of Fort Washington State Park to Wegman's Market in Warrington, for something hot and hearty, surrounded by warm conversation and laughter. Part of the outbound route will include the 202 Parkway bike path. Quick indoor rest break for bathroom and quick snack at mile 18.5 at Del Val College Market, then indoor lunch stop at Wegman's at mile 31. Rolling terrain with a few climbs, but nothing too steep -- total climbing 2700'. Stop to regroup as needed. No one dropped, but we will try to maintain the advertised pace. Hike Swift Pace on Strenuous Trails, 6.5 to 8.5.5 miles. Meet at St. Martins train station on Willow Grove Ave, near Seminole St.. The hike leaves at 9:30 am. Let's explore some less-travelled trails above the Wissahickon Creek, and find some good paths to climb. Flat option via Forbidden Drive on the return. Well-behaved canine hikers are always welcome. Optional group lunch at a nearby eatery after the hike. From the meeting point, we'll walk down Willow Grove Ave to Cherokee St, entering Valley Green via a small trail next to the Springside School. Ride through Bala Cynwyd, Wynnewood, Havertown, Haverford, Merion, Bryn Mawr, Villanova, Radnor, Devon, Wayne, Gulph Mills, Conshohocken, etc. Many hills, including 10 (or so) relatively long ones. One 35-minute coffee stop in Devon (Pour Richards) at mile 22 or so. (It's all about the coffee.) Levels A: 16-17mph, 40-55 miles. Meet at Main Line Cycles front of shop 919 Montgomery Ave. The ride leaves at 9:05 am. Great roads with low traffic. We have a few routes that bring us out around or through Ridley Creek State Park. Average speed will be 16-17 mph, but note that these routes include over 4000' of climbing. Sat January 26, 2019 - Toss of the dice - Coffee In Wayne
Level C+: 12-14mph, 40 miles. Meet at Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 10:00 am. Friendly C+ ride with various destinations: This week we head to Wayne through Penn Wynne and Haverford. A coffee stop at the Gryphon Cafe, then back via County Line and Old Gulph roads. The approximate route is at the link, but we'll skip Mill Creek and Hollow roads on the way back. We will regroup as necessary and wait at turns within ride level expectations. Level C- through D: 10-12mph, 15-25 miles. Meet at Kayuh Bicycles & Cafe 19th St. & Girard Ave. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. These rides will focus local neighborhoods around Philadelphia County and will include places like old buildings, historic places and murals. Easy rides for new riders to biking, with Safety Instructions and How To ride in a group. A no drop ride, with rest stops and re-group as needed. Helmet and Water a must. Sun January 27, 2019 - Valley Forge Winter Ride: Sunday Edition
Level B: 14.5mph, 35 miles. Meet at Valley Forge National Park, Betzwood Area (by rest rooms). The ride leaves at 9:00 am. Every Sunday through March, we will ride 17.5 miles to Hennings Market in Harleysville, do an indoor coffee break, then ride 17.5 miles back to Valley Forge. Cue sheets will be available. Sun January 27, 2019 - G.R.I.T Ride (No Ride this Week)
Level B-: 14mph, 30-50 miles. Start location to be determined. The ride leaves at 9:15 am. Bring your 29er, CX, Gravel or equip your road bike with wider tires as we mashup rides across various asphalt, gravel and sometimes dirt terrains. Expect a good challenge as we grind gravel trails and hit a few climbs with great company for no other purpose than to have fun and put in a few unpaved miles.

Sun January 27, 2019 - Hike the Wissahickon
Hike Moderate Pace on Strenuous Trails, 6-8 miles. Meet at Walnut Lane Golf Club. The hike leaves at 9:30 am. Please join us on a hike in the beautiful Wissahickon Valley Park. This week we will be exploring the south end of the park including the 100 steps and the area of the park on the south side of Lincoln Drive. Wear appropriate footwear and consider bringing ice grippers if conditions are icy. Well behaved dogs are always welcome but they must remain leashed at all times- even on the trails. There is a bathroom at the start and then not another one until near the end of the hike so come prepared. If you do not know the trails in this section of the park, you should be prepared to do the entire hike which will end about 12:30pm. Park in the lot on Magdalena Street across from the golf club.

Level D: 9-12mph, 12-24 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 12:00 pm. OWLS (Older, Wiser, Longer, Slower) paced ride through Fairmount Park and beyond depending on the assembled group and the weather. Please bring helmet(required by club rules), $ for mid ride snack stop, extra tube, and water. Dress appropriately for winter weather

Sun January 27, 2019 - Sunday Afternoon (Post-Hike) Winter Ramble = Bruno's to Oaks via SRT
Level B-: 14mph, 40 miles. Meet at Bruno's, Northwestern and Germantown Aves. The ride leaves at 1:15 pm. For 1/27 - time-saving, out-and-back route to Oaks, via the SRT. Coffe break at the half-way point. Choice of places to stop - Wawa, Starbucks, Dunkin' Donuts. Return by 5:00. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Scenic loop, usually thru Montgomery Co. or Lower Bucks, with brief rest stop. Unless otherwise stated, meet most Sundays at Bruno's (finishing point for many of the Sunday AM Wissahickon hikes). Occasionally meet at another location in Chestnut Hill. Plan to return by 5:00pm. Please bring LIGHTS. Specific details posted for week. Every Sunday throughout winter (during hiking season), weather permitting, EXCEPT 2nd Sun in Feb. If weather is not bike-friendly, this ride may be replaced by snow activity. Keep moving throughout winter - maintain base fitness level for the return of spring cycling in March. Easy, flat ride to and from the monthly newsletter mailing party at Tom Witt's office downtown. We'll help the crew prepare the February Quick Release for mailing. Light refreshments will be served. LIGHTS and LOCKS are mandatory - we will be locking our bikes outside the building. Meet at the Planet Fitness on East York St near Aramingo Ave, in the Port Richmond neighborhood.

Wed January 30, 2019 - CANCELLED Nighttime Phoenixville Dog Ride
Level C+: 13.5-14.5mph, 25-35 miles. Meet at Reynolds Dog Park, Longford Rd, Oaks, PA. The ride leaves at 6:30 pm. The nighttime Phoenixville Dog rides will continue until daylight savings time begins. A strong headlight and taillight are required. The rides are on low traffic roads and feature rolling to hilly terrain. No one dropped, but please be prepared to ride the advertised pace over rolling to hilly terrain. Precipitation cancels. Ice on the road cancels. Temperatures below 15 degrees at the scheduled start time cancels. Cue sheets will not be available.
