    Thu December 3, 2020 - Thursday Morning Hill Ride - Conshohocken State Rd

    Level D: 10mph, 24 miles. Meet at 22nd and Pennsylvanian . The ride leaves at 10:00 am. Please note new meeting place! We start a new round of Thursday Morning Hill Rides which has five versions maybe if last week's ride proved doable, six. Version #1 Conshohocken State Rd, the shortest and easiest to navigate, #2 Mill Creek Rd, Hollow Rd, Hagesford Rd. #3 backwards version of #2 climbing out of the Schuylkill River Valley at Flat Rock Park on Mill Creek Rd, all the way gentley up to Ardmore's Farmers Market for coffee. #4 Youngs Ford Rd, Wayerly Rd. #5 Merion Squre Rd, maybe the steepest, #6 doing Wayerly Rd, Youngs Ford Rd version backwards. Coffee at Thunder Mug after except the backwards routes, at Ardmore Farmers Market! Do all six which will take us into the new year!     Level B-: 14mph, 50 miles. Meet at Upper Dublin High School. The ride leaves at 9:15 am. For 12/4: Pretty loop from Upper Dublin HS to Hennings Market in Harleysville. Outbound via Ambler, North Wales, and Sounderton. Food stop at Hennings at Mile 28. Return via Cedars, Blue Bell, and Ft. Washington. Total climbing 2236 ft. Rolling terrain, but no killer climbs. COVID PRECAUTIONS in effect. Plan is to return by ~2:30-2:45. Rain is not predicted to arrive until ~4:00pm. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: scenic adventures by bike on most Fridays, throughout the year.     Level B: 14.5-15.5mph, 44 miles. Meet at Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 8:55 am. Winter B ride with longer rides when warmer, shorter rides when colder. Total elevation 2700 ft. The average speed (measured at end of ride) is likely to be 14.5 - 15.5 mph. We will regroup as needed, but riders are expected to ride the group pace. There will be a midway coffee/food stop at the Gryphon Cafe, Wayne. Please be familiar with the Bicycle Club of Philadelphia Rider Guidelines for COVID-19 Mitigation, and bring a mask for the rest stop. Check daily listing for GPS route information.     Sun December 6, 2020 - WEEK 5 WINTER HIKE - TYLER STATE PARK in NEWTOWN, BUCKS COUNTY

    Hike Moderate Pace on Moderate Trails, 7-8 miles. Meet at Tyler State Park, 101 Swamp Rd, Newtown, PA 18940. The hike leaves at 9:30 am. Please join us for a 7-8 mile hike in Tyler State Park, along the scenic and meandering Neshaminy Creek.🥾 PLEASE PREREGISTER ahead of time, so that the Leader(s) will be able to plan for no more than 10 hikers per group. SPECIAL NOTE: Due to the rain on Friday and Saturday, trails may be muddy. Hiking gear is strongly recommended: hiking shoes/boots, hiking poles, and grippers for under your shoes. If trails are very muddy, we may need to switch to the paved trails. COVID PRECAUTIONS will be maintained, due to rising COVID numbers. Please wear a mask, wash/sanitize your hands, and maintain at least 6 ft of distance between yourself and others.     Level C+/C: 11.5-12mph, 30 miles. Meet at Spring Mill SEPTA lot beside Riverbend Cycles. The ride leaves at 10:00 am. Short ride on a cool day. The "+" is for a couple of hills. We will take a moderate pace and regroup at the top. WAWA stop at 14.6 miles. PLEASE 1) remember your mask, 2) pack a picnic lunch (protein bar etc.). The WAWA was limiting the number of people in the store and there was a line outside the last time I was there. The stop is basically for a bathroom break if needed. Designed for novice cyclists new to organized club rides, those new to Philadelphia, and those experienced riders just wanting a lay back group ride. A short review of the rules of the road, safety tips, advice to winter cycling clothing and description of the route will be given.     Level B-: 14mph, 36 miles. Meet at Tyler State Park, 101 Swamp Rd, Newtown, PA 18940, Lower Plantation Parking Lot. The ride leaves at 1:15 pm. For 12/6: Pretty loop from Tyler State Park and Newtown, Bucks Co. to Washington Crossing and Lambertville in Hunterdon County. Return via New Hope and Upper Makefield. Brief rest stop in Lambertville at Mile 24. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Scenic loop, thru Mont.Co. or Lower Bucks, brief rest stop. MEETING POINTS WILL VARY, due to the AM hikes being moved from Wissahickon to suburban points outside of Phila. Return by 5:00pm. Please bring LIGHTS. Details posted each week.     Level B-: 14mph, 49 miles. Meet at Green Lane Park Morrow Pavilion. The ride leaves at 9:45 am. FOR 12/11: Another 5-star, picturesque route by Charlie B.! From Green Park, meander through outer Montgomery County to Old Zionsville for lunch. Rest break at Mile 12, outdoor lunch stop at Mile 23. Along the way, ride past peaceful Green Lane Reservoir, green countryside, and quaint small towns. Total climbing 2900 ft. Most of the climbing is in the middle of the route. COVID PRECAUTIONS in Effect: safe distancing (20 ft apart while cycling, at least 6 ft apart when stopped). Please bring a mask and hand sanitizer. Starting time slightly later, due to our meeting point (Green Lane Park) slightly farther away. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: scenic adventures by bike on most Fridays, throughout the year. The Philly Wandrers will head out to Wayne via the Radnor Trail for a picnic at Fenimore Woods.     Sat December 12, 2020 - Chadds Ford to Hoopes Reservoir in Delaware, via Brandywine River. COVID PRECAUTIONS in Effect

    Level B-: 14mph, 50 miles. Meet at Parking lot behind the Chadds Ford Post Office, at US-1/Baltimore Pike, PA-100/Creek Rd, and Hoffman's Mill Rd. The ride leaves at 9:30 am. Hilly but pretty and meandering loop through southern Chester County, PA and northern Delaware, crossing the scenic Brandywine Creek a few times, as well as a few other creeks and streams. This route is based on a ride led by Tom Madle and Katie Eberhart, with an additional loop around the lovely & peaceful Hoopes Reservoir. We'll ride on "Stargazer Rd", and through green, rural countryside. Optional outdoor quick stop in Unionville at mile 19. Outdoor rest stop at mile 27 in Kennett Square - choice of eateries. Total elevation gain is 3000 ft. We will stop to regroup as needed. Most of the climbing is in the first half. Please bring an on-bike snack with you, as well as two water bottles.     Level C+/C: 11.5-12mph, 31 miles. Meet at Spring Mill SEPTA lot beside Riverbend Cycles. The ride leaves at 9:30 am. The "+" is for 2 big hills in the first 6 miles. It will be a moderate "C" pace with regrouping at hill tops and traffic signals. There is a cutoff point in the middle to chop 10 miles if it looks like rain.     Hike Moderate Pace on Moderate Trails, 5.5 miles. Meet at Pawling Farm Trailhead, Pawling Rd, across from Pawling Circle, Valley Forge, PA. The hike leaves at 9:30 am. BCP's sister club, Suburban Cyclists Unlimited (SCU), is hosting a 5.5-mile Sunday AM winter hike. Please visit SCU's Meetup calendar for details.     Level C+/C: 11.5-12mph, 47 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 10:00 am. Very scenic ride from the Art Museum to the Chester Creek Trail. Bring the camera. The pace will be a moderate "C" with regrouping at traffic signals and hill tops. Rest stop in Media at WAWA at mile 20. A second rest stop is available at a couple of places on the return trip if needed. 8 miles of the Bicyclist's Baltimore Pike. PLEASE remember your mask for the rest stop(s).     Level D: 9-12mph, 12-24 miles. Meet at North-West Corner of 22nd and Pennsylvania Aves., Philadelphia, PA . The ride leaves at 12:00 pm. !!!PLEASE NOTE THERE IS A NEW STARTING LOCATION DUE TO COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS!!! OWLS (Older, Wiser, Longer, Slower) paced ride for both new, older, and younger riders. The ride will go through Fairmont Park and beyond with a hill or two for conditioning. An essential biking skill will be demonstrated and practiced for a short period of time on this ride. Please bring helmet and mask (required by the club). You should have an extra tube and instruments to change a flat, water, dress properly for the weather, and $ for mid ride snack rest stop.

    Hike Moderate Pace on Moderate Trails, 5.5 miles. Meet at Pennypack Trailhead Parking Lot, Welsh Rd/PA-63 and Terwood Rd, Bryn Athyn/Huntingdon Valley. The hike leaves at 9:30 am. FOR 12/18: POST-SNOWSTORM HIKE along the serene Pennypack Trail in Bryn Athyn and Huntingdon Valley. Please wear sturdy hiking shoes. Hiking poles and traction cleats are strongly recommended. Total elevation gain is only 234 ft - mild upgrade heading north, downgrade on the return. COVID PRECAUTIONS: Please bring a mask and hand sanitizer, and wear your mask as much as possible.     Sat December 19, 2020 - NO SNOW in South Jersey - Hammonton to Historic Smithville COVID PRECAUTIONS in Effect (ad-hoc ride)

    Level B-: 14mph, 51 miles. Meet at Hammonton Walmart parking lot, White Horse Pike (US-30). The ride leaves at 10:00 am. South Jersey received significantly less snow in this week's snowstorm compared with Southeastern PA, so the roads in Hammonton and points farther south are now clear and dry. This scenic route is based on a Tom Madle cue sheet from a few years ago. Pretty loop from Hammonton to Historic Smithville, for an OUTDOOR lunch stop at the half-way mark (mile 26). Cross the scenic Mullica River. Pass through the cute towns of Port Republic and Egg Harbor City. There is a lake with outdoor seating near the coffee shop at Historic Smithville. If Smithville is crowded, we can go to the nearby mega-Wawa, 2 blocks away. COVID PRECAUTIONS in Effect: Please preregister at the link below, for non-contact registration. Each year this ride gets longer, yet each year we cycle to the same destination, Trenton, NJ, Trenton Makes, the World Takes! Coffee at a Dunkn Donuts 13 miles, pack a lunch for a stop along the Delaware River in Trenton, and pick up a hoagie to go in Bordentown, NJ for dinner once you are home. Continue down the Jersey side of the Delaware River towns. Over the Ben Franklin Bridge with the 76 mile birthday commemation at Broad a Spring Garden Sts!
