    Fri January 1, 2021 - Friday Frolic w/Linda. New Years Morning Short Loop from UDHS to Skippack. COVID PRECAUTIONS in Effect

    Level B-: 14mph, 36 miles. Meet at Upper Dublin High School. The ride leaves at 9:30 am. FOR 1/1/2021 - HAPPY NEW YEAR! Short but pretty morning loop from Upper Dublin High School to Skippack, for a quick, outdoor rest stop at Wawa. Outbound via Blue Bell and Evansburg, return via North Wales and Ambler. Rest break at Skippack Wawa is at Mile 21. Total climbing 2062 ft. Return in time for COVID-compliant holiday time with family. Plan to return by 12:30pm, in order to beat the rain predicted to arrive in the afternoon. COVID PRECAUTIONS in Effect: Please bring masks and hand sanitizer, and practice safe distancing (20 ft apart while cycling, 6 ft apart when stopped). Please refer to the Club's COVID Mitigation Guidelines on the website, for more details. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Enjoy scenic adventures by bike on most Fridays, throughout the year. Explore pretty, peaceful roads in suburban counties -- Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, etc. Starting points will vary, so that we can cycle through different regions. Please check daily calendar for details of each Friday's route -- terrain, mileage, rest stops, etc. Cue sheets and on-line route map provided for each ride. If weather conditions are not conducive to cycling, this ride may be replaced by a hike/walk, or snow activity.     Fri January 1, 2021 - New Year's Day Ride for a Virtual Mummer's Parade

    Level D: 9-12mph, 24 miles. Meet at Jacobs Engineering Parking Lot. The ride leaves at 11:00 am. OWLS (Older, Wiser, Longer, Slower paced ride along the Schuylkill River Trail for most of the way to the Kimmel Center area. We will find an outdoor cafe for a quick cup of something warm to eat or drink. Please bring Helmet and masks (required by the club.) Please have extra tube, water, proper dress for the weather, and $ for mid-ride rest stop. If there is inclement weather, I will notify preregistered riders.

    Level D: 10mph, 50 miles. Meet at 22nd and Pennsylvanian Ave . The ride leaves at 9:00 am. Last week we only got as far as Conshohocken because of the very cold weather. Let's try to go the distance. Easy out and back over the Schuylkill River Trail and Chester Valley Trail. Lunch at Wegmans at Malvern.     Level C+: 11.5-12mph, 42 miles. Meet at Spring Mill SEPTA lot beside Riverbend Cycles. The ride leaves at 9:30 am. Same guidelines as the C ride: Regroup at hill tops and traffic signals. "+" is for extra distance. Overall percentage of climbing is the same, but a few more miles means a few more hills. WAWA deluxe at mile 20. No potty at the start :( Make a pit stop before you arrive.     Sat January 2, 2021 - Centre Square Park to Limerick WAWA - COVID PRECAUTIONS in Effect

    Level B-: 14mph, 48 miles. Meet at Centre Square Park (please park near the bathrooms). The ride leaves at 9:45 am. Fantastic weather forecast for the start of the new year! Bright sunshine, with afternoon high temp of 44-46*. This is a gift for January! Pretty loop from Centre Square Park in Whitpain Township to the WAWA in Linfield/Limerick in western Montgomery County. Outbound via Skippack and Spring Mt, return via Graterford and Evansburg. On our way out to Limberick, there is a potty/snack stop if needed at the Heckler Plains Farmstead Park at Mile 11. OUTDOOR rest stop at Wawa is at the half-way point (Mile 23). Rolling terrain with 3323 total ft of climbing. COVID PRECAUTIONS in Effect - please bring masks and use hand sanitizer. Please maintain safe distancing (20 ft apart while cycling, at least 6 ft apart when stopped).     Sun January 3, 2021 - Sunday AM Winter Hike - EVANSBURG STATE PARK/SKIPPACK CREEK - COVID Precautions Enforced

    Hike Moderate Pace on Moderate Trails, 5.5 miles. Meet at Evansburg State Park, Pavillion "A" parking lot, Mayhall Rd, Collegeville, PA 19426. The hike leaves at 9:30 am. Pretty hike on the Skippack Creek Loop Trail in Evansburg State Park, to celebrate the New Year. Relatively gentle terrain, with only 263 ft of climbing. Please wear sturdy hiking shoes. Hiking poles are recommended. If the trails are muddy (or snow-covered) traction cleats for your shoes are highly recommended. Designed for novice cyclists new to organized club rides, those new to Philadelphia, and those experienced riders just wanting a lay back group ride. A short review of the rules of the road, safety tips, advice to winter cycling clothing and description of the route will be given.     Sun January 3, 2021 - Sunday Afternoon (Post-Hike) Winter Ramble - EVANSBURG to HARLEYSVILLE/TELFORD - COVID PRECAUTIONS in Effect

    Level B-: 14mph, 38 miles. Meet at Evansburg State Park, Parking lot for Pavilion . The ride leaves at 1:00 pm. FOR JAN. 3: Hike will meet at Evansburg State Park, since this is where the morning hike will take place. Outbound via Skippack. Brief rest stop at Landis Market in Telford at the half-way point. Return trip will pass the Graceful Glen Alpaca Farm. If we are lucky, the alpacas will still be outside. Rolling terrain with 2227 ft climbing. Plan to return to Evansburg before 5:00pm. GOOD NEWS! Daylight is now gradually getting longer again. Statrt/Finish Point at Evansburg: please zoom in on the route map to see the parking lot.     Thu January 7, 2021 - Thursday Morning Hill Ride - Youngs Ford, Waverly Rds

    Level D: 10mph, 28 miles. Meet at Cosmic Cafe, Lloyd Hall, # 1 Boathouse Row, Kelly Dr, East Fairmount Park . The ride leaves at 10:00 am. This is the fourth of six versions of the Thursday Morning Hill Ride. We will continue on Old Gulf Rd which becomes Williamson Rd which becomes Youngs Ford Rd if you bare right continuing up with a right on Waverly Rd, then down to below sea level which we lovingly call Flat Rock Park. Anything that goes down will need to be paid back! That means climbing Hollow and Hagesford Rds. Coffee at Thunder Mug, wishing each other's accomplishments a Merry Christmas! Delran, NJ, a long the Rancocas Creek, I know this area very well, graduated from Holy Cross High in Riverside NJ along Rt 130. I noticed the Delran Coffee Shop where you can get more than coffee while looking up the Pie Lady Cafe in Moorestown, NJ. So let's try it! Over the Ben Franklin Bridge and returning by walking over the Tacony Palmyra Bridge on the way back to Philadelphia.     Sat January 9, 2021 - SUNSHINE & HOT COFFEE - Yardley, Bucks Co. to Hopewell & Pennington, NJ - COVID PRECAUTIONS in Effect

    Level B-: 14mph, 45 miles. Meet at Large parking lot on South Main St, Yardley, PA. The ride leaves at 10:00 am. Pretty and scenic loop from Yardley, PA (Bucks Co.) to Washington Crossing, then a meander through historic Mercer County, NJ. Stop in the darling town of Hopewell, and stop for coffee/lunch at the popular Boro Bean cafe, at Mile 24. Boro Bean has outdoor tables. From Hopewell, cycle past more green landscapes to Pennington. We'll cross a couple of brooks/creeks. On the return, if another rest break is needed, we can stop in Pennington at Mile 33, or on the PA side of Washington Crossing at Mile 40. The middle portion of the route has some hills, but no killer climbs. The beginning and final stretches on River Rd and River Drive are flat. Total elevation 2134 ft. START/FINISH in Yardley: Large parking lot at 25 South Main St, where Vince's Pizza is located. There is a Wawa across the street. OWLS (Older, Wiser, Longer, Slower) pace ride for any age through Fairmount Park and beyond. There might be a hill or two. There will be a short instructional period on one of the essential biking skills. Please bring helmet and mask (required by the club), $ for mid-ride snack stop, extra tube, water, and proper dress for the weather. There might be a hill or two to help us keep warm and increase condition. We will regroup at top of any hill to allow breath catching. Most important of all bring a sunny smile.

Got to get a front and back bicycle lights, most likely to fit on my helmet. So after coffee and a pastry at Parera Bread at the White Marsh Shoping Center up on Ridge Ave and Butler Pike, we go shopping at REI across the pike. Merion Squre Rd is the steepest hill in the series of the Thursday Morning Hill Ride. Come challenge yourself and get stronger but not faster roadie. This will be a flat and beautiful ride all along the SRT. Coffee at Dunkin Donuts in Norristown then continue on until we hit 36.5 miles and turn around. Also Chubby's has a new competitor right next door to the Wawa, "The Salt Box". The ride also happens to pass by Tabora Farms, Lake Galena, and Pine Run Reservoir, using scenic, quiet Bucks County backroads. Total climbing 2362 ft. It is the small park that is formed by the intersection of Lincoln Dr., Wissahickon Ave. and W. Rittenhouse St. Try to park on Rittenhouse St. and we will meet on that side of the park. We will hike down the east side of Wissahickon Creek to Ridge Ave. and then back up the west side, up the 100 steps and back to RittenhouseTown where you can stop in at the Paper Trail Bike Cafe. For Jan. 17: Easy, mostly flat out & back route to Oaks (almost Collegeville) on the Schuylkill River Trail, for a quick coffee break. We have a choice of places to stop in Oaks - Dunkin' Donuts, Starbucks, Wawa, etc. Plan is to return before 5:00pm. Total elevation gain is 1491 ft. A little bit of climbing, when riding away from the SRT, but, the SRT is flat. Pretty meander in Upper Montgomery and Bucks Counties, based on/adapted from a Joe Phelps route - thanks, Joe! Leave from Souderton Community Park, heading north toward Dublin, Bucks County for a brief hot coffee break at the Damn Good Cafe at Mile 14. On the return from Dublin, stop at Tabora Farm in Chalfont for hot coffee or soup. Meander through some peaceful, green landscapes toward Peace Valley Park, and take part of the lakeside trail next to Lake Galena. Head back to Souderton via Line Lexington. Total climbing 1899 ft.     Sun January 31, 2021 - Sunday Hike in the Wissahickon. COVID PRECAUTIONS in EFFECT

    Hike Moderate Pace on Moderate Trails, 6.8 miles. Meet at St. Martin's Station. The hike leaves at 9:30 am. Pretty hike along the Cresheim and Wissahickon Creeks. Meet at St. Martin train station, then meander down St. Martin's Lane to enter the park along the Cresheim Creek. In the Wissahickon Valley, we'll hike mainly on the White and Yellow Trails. On the second half of the hike, Forbidden Drive could be used as a flat short-cut, if needed. Well-behaved canine hikers on leashes are welcome to join us. COVID PRECAUTIONS in Effect: Please maintain the 3 W's: Wear a Mask, Watch Your Distance (at least 6ft from others at all times), and Wash Your Hands (or sanitize with Purell). PLEASE COMPLETE ON-LINE PREREGISTRATION for this hike, so that we can ensure safe group size(s). If the first group of 10 hikers fills quickly, we will try to add a second hike group with a different Leader.     Level D: 10mph, 15 - 20 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 12:00 pm. Come on our club's oldest running club ride. Designed for novice cyclists new to organized club rides, those new to Philadelphia, and those experienced riders just wanting a lay back group ride. A short review of the rules of the road, safety tips, advice to winter cycling clothing and description of the route will be given. If KYW is reporting rain outside their studio one hour prior to start, ride cancels. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Levels C: 12mph, 26-32 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 12:15 pm. The Lower Swedish Cabin is a colonial era cabin built between 1640 and 1650 by Swedish settlers in the Delaware Valley. It is located on the banks of Darby Creek. 2 possible distances (depending on weather). Short version 26 miles. Long version 32 miles. PLEASE remember your mask! Regrouping at hill tops and traffic signals. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Level B-: 14mph, 35-40 miles. Meet at Various Starting Locations - details posted each week. The ride leaves at 1:15 pm. CANCELLED for 1/31, due to SNOW ARRIVING IN PM Scenic loop, thru Mont.Co. or Lower Bucks, brief rest stop. MEETING POINTS WILL VARY, due to the AM hikes being moved from Wissahickon to suburban points outside of Phila. Return by 5:00pm. Please bring LIGHTS. Details posted each week. Every Sun during winter hike season, weather permitting, w/possible exception Valentine's Day. If weather not bike-friendly, ride may be replaced by snow activity.
