    Tue November 2, 2021 - Tandem Tuesday

    Level Tandem: 13mph, 44 miles. Meet at Barsto SP Visitors Center, 31 Batsto Rd, Hammonton, NJ, 08037. The tandem ride leaves at 10:00 am. Tandem ride with singles welcome starting at Historic Batsto Village, NJ a preserved company town, originally an iron works during colonial days. Later a glass works, then an agricultural center owned by Joseph Wharton (of Wharton School fame). Many years after his death the State purchased the property to preserve it as an historic site. The ride passes through miles of pinelands and has several views of the Mullica River. The mid-point stop for snack and restroom break will be at Historic Smithville, a re-created village with shops and restaurants. Bring a picnic lunch if desired to enjoy after the ride back at Batsto SP. The Park Visitor Center includes a Museum with exhibits on the history of Batsto and about the Pinelands in general. A pleasant ride over the Ben Franklin Bridge to Merchantville, NJ. We will stop for coffee at the historic Merchantville Train Station. Shall we take the Tacony Palmyra Bridge back.     Thu November 4, 2021 - Thursday Morning Hill Ride: Merion Square Road

    Level D: 10mph, 27 miles. Meet at Cosmic Cafe, Lloyd Hall, # 1 Boathouse Row, Kelly Dr, East Fairmount Park . The ride leaves at 10:00 am. Mill Creek Road is open at the top of the road leading up from Flat Rock Park. But is it open at the bottom? We will find out by going up Marion Square Road to Waverley and down to Flat Rock Park to check it out. If Mill Creek Road is open, we will go up Mill Creek and Conshohocken State Road If not, we will go up Hollow Road. Either way, we will go through West Laurel Hill Cemetary and down to the Landing Kitchen for lunch. In case of inclement weather I will cancel the ride by 9 AM.     Fri November 5, 2021 - Friday Frolic w/Linda. Art Museum to Gwynedd and Springhouse. (SPECIAL EDITION - MEET at ART MUSEUM, due to setting up the Expo booth at the Convention Center at 3:30pm

    Level B-: 14mph, 52 miles. Meet at Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 9:30 am. 11/5: CANCELLED, due to emergency. Pretty loop from the Art Mueum to Ambler, North Wales, and Gwynedd. Outbound via Mt. Airy, Chestnut Hill, and Erdenheim. Optional quick rest stop at mile 20, then lunch stop at mile 28 at the new, huge, Whole Foods Market in Springhouse. Return via Gwynedd, Blue Bell, Plymouth Meeting, and the Schuylkill River Trail from Spring Mill to the finish. Total climbing is 2923 ft, and the terrain is mostly rolling. The final stretch on the SRT is flat. We will stop to regroup as needed. No one dropped, but we will try to maintain at least 13mph average, as advertised. Plan is to return before 3:00 - Leader needs to get to the Convention Center to set-up the BCP booth for the Bike Expo this weekend. MEETING POINT & PARKING: We will be meeting at the Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum, on Aquarium/Waterworks Drive. The parking here is timed, however, on the other side of Kelly Drive, Sedgley Drive has plenty of street parking without time limits. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Scenic adventures by bike on most Fridays, throughout the year. Explore pretty, peaceful roads in suburban counties -- Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, etc. Starting points will vary, so that we can cycle through different regions. Cue sheets and on-line route map will be provided for each ride. If weather conditions are not conducive to cycling, this ride may be replaced by a hike/walk (on foot).     Fri November 5, 2021 - Pre-Bike Expo Un-Loading and Set-up - Volunteers Needed. Please use the sign-up page.

    Meet at Exhibit Hall E of the PA Convention Center, rear loading dock. The event starts at 3:30 pm. This is the 12th anniversary of the Philly Bike Expo - time flies! The Philly Bike Expo is a celebration of all things bicycle. This year's expo takes place Nov. 6 & 7, but our booth must be set-up by Friday evening, Nov. 5. If you would like to help with unloading our gear and supplies from the McVan, setting up the booth, etc., please visit the Expo Volunteer Sign-up page below Setting up the booth works best (and requires a lot less time) with at least 4 volunteers, in order to open and raise the canopy tents, open and raise long tables, display the merchandise, display club brochures/literature and posters, etc. The Expo will take place at the PA Convention Center, Broad & Cherry Street entrance, Exhibit Hall E. On Friday, we will be entering the exhibit hall via the REAR LOADING DOCK, accessible via a long ramp entered at 1140 Vine Street. Please note that Vine St. is divided - you must be on the eastbound side (toward 11th and 10th Streets) to access the ramp entrance. Leader will provide details to our volunteers.     Level B/B-: 14.5-15mph, 60 +/- miles. Meet at Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 8:30 am. Assemble at 8:30. Leave at 8:35 SHARP! Ride through East Fairmount Park, East Falls, Roxborough, Mount Airy, Chestnut Hill, Wyndmoor, Ft. Washington, Ambler, Gywnyd, Lansdale, Plymouth Whitemarsh, Manayunk, Bala Cynwyd, etc. Many hills (approx. 2,500' elev. gain), but no killers. Will regroup as needed, but riders are expected to meet the advertised pace. At mile 32 or so, 35-minute coffee stop at Backyard Beans. Its all about the coffee!     Tue November 9, 2021 - Ride Yer Bike Tuesday Alpaca Ride (ad-hoc ride)

    Levels B+: 16-17mph, B-: 13.5-14.5mph, C+/C: 12-13mph, 44 miles. Meet at Centre Square Park (please park near the bathrooms). The ride leaves at 10:00 am. Bring yer bike & sense of adventure. Today's ride will visit the Graceful Glen Alpaca Farm (mile 19.5). Early rest stop on the way out at Fischer's Park (mile 10.5 - water and bathrooms), and then a lunch stop at The Italian Market in Skippack (mile 34.5) with the option of Wawa next door instead. Expect good company and lots of safe and low trafficked roads. Not a particularly hilly ride overall, OTHER THAN 3 relatively short 8-10% hills thrown in. Will regroup as needed, but must be able to maintain the posted pace. Must be willing to ride safely and obey traffic laws. Check day of the ride if weather is iffy (rain cancels, but likely to reschedule for Wednesday).     Level A-/B+: 16mph, 41 miles. Meet at Upper Dublin High School. The ride leaves at 9:30 am. RSVP IS MANDATORY AS RIDE IS LIMITED TO 8 RIDERS. Join Wes for a 16 mph ride from the UDHS to Feine Cafe in Conshy (mile 26.5) via the moderately hilly route through Erdenheim, Chestnut Hill, Manayunk, LMT and back into Manayunk. This front loaded 41 mile ride averages over 60 ft/mile of climbing to Feine Cafe. Return trip is a much more standard 48 ft/mile of climbing. Optional restroom breaks at mile 6 (James Cisco Park-Port-a-loo); mile 17 (Bala Cynwyd Park-faucet water available); and mile 30 (Koontz Park-Water Available). STRONGLY recommend that you carry TWO water bottles and some snacks for the breaks. Mill Creek Road is open again between Flat Rock Park and Conshohocken State Road. So, we'll go down Hollow Road to Flat Rock Park and climb back up the relatively mild Mill Creek Road. Mill Creek Road is still closed at the bridge to the Armore Farmer's Market. So, we'll make a left and climb Conshohocken State Road.     Level C: 12.5mph, 43 miles. Meet at Fitler Square. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. What could be better than fall tent camping in the Pine Barrens? This multi-modal adventure will head out Friday morning and travel via Patco High Speed line to Lindenwold, then bike the rest of the way to our campsite. Stops will include lunch with Chef Manny at the Shamong Diner and Murphy's Marketplace about 15 miles from our destination to obtain supplies for dinner at the campsite. In the event of wet weather, we can shorten the ride and turn around earlier, with a quick stop if needed at Merrymead Farm on the return. The 41-mile route has 2048 ft total climbing. Another 5-Star, scenic route by Charlie B. in Lancaster County, to enjoy as much fall foliage as we can! Route includes a covered bridge, an organic farm with camels, and plenty of picturesques roads, including Creek Rd along the Octoraro Creek. Rolling terrain with a few brisk climbs in the first half, but the second half is more gentle.     Hike Moderate Pace on Moderate Trails, 5-7 miles. Meet at Chestnut Hill Academy McCausland Lower School parking lot . The hike leaves at 9:30 am. Starting Nov. 21st and runs through mid-March. Starts at various locations accessing the Wissahickon. For the hike on Nov. 21st, we will start at the Lower Parking Lot for Springside Chestnut Hill Academy at 8000 Cherokee St., Phila. and head to the White Trail and then back on the Yellow Trail. Moderate trails, although some of the trails are rocky. We will have a post-hike social after the hike with food and drink at the parking lot. There will be hoagies, snacks and drinks to enjoy with your fellow hikers. Bring a camp chair if you would like to sit.     Thu November 25, 2021 - Pre-Turkey, Thanksgiving Morning Ride, UDHS to Skippack. Two Leaders. Route has been adjusted to avoid the storm-damaged bridge over Skippack Creek.

    Levels B-/C+: 13-14mph, 36 miles. Meet at Upper Dublin High School. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. Morning ride before our holiday feast from UDHS to the WaWa in Skippack. Some hills, regroup as needed. Riders should be able to keep the average pace. Faster on flats, slower on hills. Bring plenty to drink and an on bike snack. Quick snack & bathroom break at Wawa at ~half-way mark. Total climbing 1585 ft - nothing too severe. Plan to return by 1:00, in order for us to get to our holiday festivities with our families. From Fischer's Park in Towamencin Township, Montgomery County, PA to Spor's General Store in Trumbauersville, Bucks County for ICE CREAM and lunch.     Sat November 27, 2021 - Newark, DE to Turkey Point Lighthouse Adventure.

    Level B-: 14mph, 59 miles. Meet at Parking lot of the Newark & Pomeroy Rail Trail, near Trek Bikes & Ski Bum stores, next to the Newark Shopping Center on Main St. . The ride leaves at 9:00 am. In honor of Thanksgiving turkey, this ride is a revival of the late Peter Odell's classic route to the Turkey Point Lighthouse, on the scenic and peaceful peninsula between the Elk River and the North East River, at the head of the Chesapeake Bay. Mostly quiet roads in northwestern Delaware and northeastern Maryland. Rest stop at mile 18.5, in the cute town of Northeast, MD. ScenicTurkey Point Lighthouse at the tip of the peninsula is at mile 31.5. (The Lighthouse Trail runs right along the perimeter of the peninsula.) On the return, we have a rest stop at a market/deli at mile 45. Total elevation gain is 3986 feet. Mostly rolling terrain, with some steep climbs (up-down-up-down) close to the lighthouse at the tip of the peninsula. We will stop to regroup as needed. Travel time from Philadelphia to Newark is ~one hour. Driving Directions from Philadelphia: I-95 South into DE, then DE-273 West toward Newark/Univ. of DE. DE-273 will lead you to Main St. The Newark Shopping Center, the Rail Trail parking lot, and Bike Line & Ski Bum stores will be on your right.
