    Tue August 1, 2023 - Ride Yer Bike Tuesday MontCo Meander

    Levels A-/B+: 16-17mph, B-: 14-15mph, C+: 13-14mph, C: 12-13mph, 47 miles. Meet at Upper Dublin High School. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. Bring yer bike & sense of adventure. Today we'll meander around Montgomery County, with a rest stop at Heckler Park on the way out (mile 17.6) and a lunch stop at Centre Square Park on the return (mile 36.4). Be sure to bring snacks, sandwiches, etc. Expect good company on safe/scenic/low trafficked roads. No huge hills today, but lots of rolling hills of varying difficulty. Will regroup as needed, but must be able to ride the posted pace. Must be willing to ride safely & obey traffic laws.Please preregister so we can know how many to expect. Bathrooms & water available at all start locations. Check day of the ride if weather is iffy (rain cancels, but likely to reschedule for Wed.). Will make a call at least an hour prior to start time.     Tue August 1, 2023 - Tandem Tuesday - 2023 Bridges & Beach Ride Ocean City, NJ

    Level Tandem: 13mph, 35 miles. Meet at 1720 West Avenue Ocean City, NJ 08226. The tandem ride leaves at 9:30 am. Join us for the PATS-DOGS Tandem Tuesday “Bridges & Beach Ride”. Please plan to arrive by 9:15 and wheels down at 9:30am.  This year’s route will traverse 2 islands, over to the mainland, using 3 different trails, and 4 major bridges with breathtaking views of the bays.  The route is pancake flat other than a few hundred feet at the bridges and can vary from 30-35 miles to be decided by the group that morning.  There are cut off points to easily shorten the ride to accommodate folks who want an easier day.  NO DROPS! We will provide post ride snacks.  Please bring a lunch to eat in our porch or yard, sunscreen, and bathing suits, towels, and beach chairs to visit the beach and surf afterwards.  Everyone is welcome to use the enclosed outside shower with a changing area after swimming.  Single bikes are welcome.  If parking is tight, you can drop off bike and gear in the alley behind the house and park a block away at the Ocean City Library.  Ride hosts:  John Paulson (610-505-1863) and Debra Paulson (610-505-0925).   Cue sheets will not be available.

    Level D: 10.5mph, 20 miles. Meet at Cosmic Cafe, Lloyd Hall, # 1 Boathouse Row, Kelly Dr, East Fairmount Park . The ride leaves at 9:30 am. We’ll take the longer way to the top of Bryan Mawr Ave and the “ point of no return.” Enjoy a snack from GET Cafe or the Cheese Shop in Narberth and eat in the bike park.     Tue August 1, 2023 - Delightful, Delicious D/D+/C- Summer Evening Rides

    Level C- through D: 9.5-11.5mph, 12-30 miles. Meet at Glenside Public Library parking lot. The ride leaves at 6:00 pm. Relaxed-pace evening rides on Tuesdays throughout summer. Distance and pace will depend on the riders in our group. (Sunset time will also determine distance.) This ride is suited for novice riders, newcomers to the area, and/or anyone seeking a low-intensity recovery ride. Enjoy pretty and peaceful roads in eastern Montgomery County, pedaling away the stresses of the workday. We usually take a brief rest break mid-ride, depending on distance. Please bring water/Gatorade and a snack with you. Please also bring LIGHTS, in case we have a delay and are returning close to dark. Toward the end of summer (September), starting time will need to be pushed earlier to 5:45, then 5:30, due to earlier sunset.

    Level C- through D: 10-12mph, 15-30 miles. Meet at Flourtown Shopping Center. The ride leaves at 6:00 pm. Most summer Wednesday evenings, weather permitting. Gently paced, post-work ride to pedal away stresses, suited for novices, newcomers to area, and/or anyone seeking low-intensity recovery ride. Peaceful roads Eastern Montgomery Co, w/brief rest stop. Please bring lights. Preregistration (click on link to Preregister) saves you writing time at the start. Meet in parking lot of Flourtown Shop Ctr Bethlehem Pike (McDonald's in front, facing the Pike). Once a month, this ride may need to meet earlier in afternoon, due to BCP Board meeting in evening. In September, as evening daylight shortens, this ride will meet earlier (5:45, then, 5:30). Cue sheets will not be available.

    Level C- through D: 10-12.5mph, 15-30 miles. Meet at Jacobs Engineering Parking Lot. The ride leaves at 6:00 pm. Scheduled for most Thursday evenings throughout summer, weather permitting. Gently paced, post-work evening ride to pedal away work stresses, suited for novices, newcomers to area, and/or anyone seeking a low-intensity recovery ride. Start by riding on Schuylkill River Trail, and/or, Cross County Trail, which connects the Schuylkill w/Plymouth Meeting . As riders get stronger, we can turn off the trails and explore some pretty roads in the area. Please bring LIGHTS in case we return close to dark. Our mileage will be determined by how much evening light we have. Occasionally, this ride may meet earlier in afternoon, due to other event in evening. In mid-September, ride will depart at 5:45 or 5:30, due to earlier sunset. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Levels B: 15-16mph, 20 - 30 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 6:00 pm. A moderately hilly ride conquering Main Line hills that regroups at the top of each climb. As the days lengthen, so does the ride. No riders doing the listed pace will be dropped. Bike lights are highly recommended. Optional after ride drink at Waterworks Cider & Beer Garden - Bring ID. Rain cancellations will be listed on web site up to 1 hour prior to ride.     Fri August 4, 2023 - Friday Frolic w/Linda. Laurel Beech Park to Devon for Coffee, via SRT and CVT. Easy Turn-around if weather does not cooperate

    Level B-: 14mph, 45 miles. Meet at Laurel Beech Park. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. Easy route to and from Devon for coffee, via the Schuylkill River and Chester Valley Trails. If the weather deteriorates, we will quickly turn around and return to the Start/Finish on the Trail. Total elevation 1901 ft climbing, averaging a modest 42 feet/mile. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Enjoy scenic adventures by bike on most Fridays, throughout the year. Explore pretty, peaceful roads in suburban counties -- Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, etc. Starting points will vary, so that we can cycle through different regions. Please check daily calendar for details of each Friday's route -- terrain, mileage, rest stops, etc. Cue sheets and on-line route map provided for each ride. If weather conditions are not conducive to cycling, this ride may be replaced by a hike/walk. As long as we are enjoying outdoor exercise, and Mother Nature, in the company of friends, we'll have a memorable outing. Cue sheets will be available.     Sat August 5, 2023 - Early Bird Ride to Coffee in Devon and E. Fairmount Park Loops (ad-hoc ride)

    Level B-: 14-14.5mph, 54 miles. Meet at Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 7:45 am. Assemble at 7:45. Depart at 7:50 SHARP! Ride through West Fairmount Park, Bala Cynwyd. Merion, Havertown, Haverford, Bryn Mawr, Devon, Wayne, Conshohocken, etc., finishing with Manayunk Bridge and East Fairmount Park Loops. At mile 26 or so, 35-minute coffee stop at Pour Richards (it's all about the coffee). Many hills (approx. 3,100 feet of climbing), including 10 or so relatively long ones, but no killers. Will regroup if necessary, but riders are expected to maintain the group pace. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Levels B: 14-15mph, 35-80 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 8:30 am. Various friendly rides per DAILY RIDE CALENDAR departing FROM THE PARKING ATTENDANT BOOTH at specified time and ranging 35-80 miles. We will regroup as needed, but riders are expected to ride group pace. Bring food or money for snack along the way, as well as a spare tube, tire irons and multi-tool. Check daily listing for route information. Ride may be cancelled up to 1 hour prior to departure time. Pre-registration preferred. Cue sheets will not be available.     Sat August 5, 2023 - Let's go swimming in Oswego Lake in the pine barrens!

    Level C: 12mph, 60 miles. Meet at Locust St & S 9th St, Philadelphia, PA 19107. The ride leaves at 8:45 am. Let's go to Oswego Lake for a swim! We will take Patco across the river to Lindenwold and NJT Atlantic city line for our return. Let's meet on the Patco platform ( after you get your ticket) at 10th and Locust at 8:45 so we can get the 8:58 train. Use the kiosk to get your ticket and meet us on the platform. Please text the ride leader if you are not getting on at this stop. We will ride on to Lake Oswego and spend some time lolling in the water-- so bring your snacks and your lunch and lots of water. Can't promise we will find anything along the way to buy stuff-- I know there is a wawa near the station in Lindenwold. On our way home we will stop at River Road Clam house for oysters and smoked fish to help us power through the afternoon. I may bring along my panniers and somthing to keep my lunch and smoked fish cool. Our return will be via NJT and the Atlantic City line at Egg Harbor City-- hopefully on the 3:53 train but if we miss that we can get on the 5:45 train. Please bring snacks in case we find that we miss our intended train or if we find ourselves unable to board the train due to other bikers being on board. OWLS(Older, Wiser, Longer, Slower) paced ride through Fairmount Park and beyond for all ages or people who are getting back to riding a bike again after a layoff. Please wear helmet(required by the club.) Bring extra tube and tools to fix a flat, water, sunscreen, $ for mid ride snack stop. There might be a hill or two, but we will regroup and catch our breaths together.

    Sun August 6, 2023 - Annual Sandy Hook Seashore Trek CO-LEADER(S) WELCOME

    Level B-: 14mph, 70 miles. Meet at Visitor Center of Monmouth Battlefield State Park, Route 33 Business, Manalapan, NJ. The ride leaves at 8:00 am. Picturesque adventure ride from Central NJ to Sandy Hook, a 1665-acre barrier peninsula which protrudes into the bay between NJ & NY. Sandy Hook offers a view of the Manhattan skyline, as well as 7 miles of beaches, a lighthouse, and a holly forest. Shortly before reaching the seashore, we'll stop at the Mt. Mitchell Scenic Overlook County Park, which includes a memorial to the heroes of 9-11. This county park provides a spectacular overlook of Sandy Hook Bay and the NYC skyline. The route to & from Sandy Hook will take us along the Navesink and Shrewsbury Rivers, as well as the Swimming River Reservoir. Beginning and ending portions of the route are flat-ish/gently rolling, with a few brisk climbs, but we will stop to regroup as needed. Total elevation gain is 2189 feet. Middle portion of the route (near and on the beach) is flat. Food stops at mile 25 and 45, + an optional Rita's Water Ice stop at mile 62, near the finish. DRIVING DIRECTIONS to the starting point (Visitor Center of Monmouth Battlefield State Park): 1) NJ Turnpike North to Exit 8/Hightstown & Freehold. 2) From Exit 8 ramp, turn right onto NJ-33 East/Franklin St. Stay on 33 East. 3) After crossing CR 527/Millhurst Rd, NJ-33 will split into Business and Expressway. Take the right-lane exit for 33 Business, then bear right at bottom of ramp for 33 Bus East. Look for sign for Monmouth Battlefield Visitor Center. Turn left into Visitor Center entrance. Parking lot is at the end of a long driveway. Please allow at least 75 mins driving time from Phila. The map link provided below (you can zoom in) will show the start/finish point, the whole route, and the elevation profile. WEATHER UPDATES will be based on the forecast for Manalapan, NJ, not Phila.     Level C+: 13.5-14mph, 45 miles. Meet at Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 8:15 am. Assemble 8:15. Depart 8:20 SHARP! Game starts at 5:00 AM. Hopefully this is a celebratory (if somewhat sleepy) ride to Starbucks in Flourtown, with return via Ambler. (It’s all about the coffee, but today also about US Women’s National Soccer Team.) Ride Level: D thru AX This ride is cross listed with SCU. Please sign up here or there so that we can get a count of riders before we start. No cue sheets will be available but ride leaders generally post their routes on the SCU Meetup or the BCP website. We do not ride on holidays that fall on a Monday ( Memorial Day, Labor Day, etc.). Rain cancels the ride but look at Meetup for last minute updates when weather is questionable.

Gently paced, post-work evening ride to pedal away the day's stresses, suited for novice riders, newcomers to the area, and/or anyone seeking a low-intensity, relaxed, recovery ride. Cycle peaceful roads in Eastern Mont Co. Brief rest stop for quick snack/bathroom break half-way through. Planned mileage will depend on the length of evening daylight. Speed and distance will also depend on the riders in our group. Please bring lights in case we are delayed on our return. Toward the end of the season (mid-September), this ride will need to leave earlier (5:45 or 5:30pm), due to evening daylight ending earlier. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Meet at Church of the Saviour, Wayne, PA. The event starts at 8:00 pm. BCP and SCU will co-host this Members Appreciation Tailgate Party, with pizza, soft drinks, and other snacks, after rides return to COS. Please join us for the merriment and refreshments, as well as announcements on upcoming club events. Someone told me the sinkers are pretty good in Haddonfield so let's go there to check the veracity of that report. Maybe have a cuppa joe as well. This eans we'll be heading over the Ben Franklin Bridge. Yes, the ramp is closed wjhich means taking the"39 Steps" but there will be plenty of willing other folks to assist if you need it. Stop at Tabora Farm & Orchard at Mile 20 for snack & potty break. Pass Bucks County Biscotti at Mile 25. Returning from Bucks to Montgomery County, there is a park with porta potties at Mile 32. Freddie Hill Farm & Creamery at Mile 38. On the final stretch, we return to Mondauk via West Point, Gwynedd, and Ambler. Terrain is rolling, but nothing too steep. Total elevation gain is 2383 ft, with most of the climbing in the middle of the route. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Enjoy scenic adventures by bike on most Fridays, throughout the year. Gently paced, post-work evening ride to pedal away work stresses, suited for novices, newcomers to area, and/or anyone seeking a low-intensity recovery ride. Start by riding on Schuylkill River Trail, and/or, Cross County Trail, which connects the Schuylkill w/Plymouth Meeting . As riders get stronger, we can turn off the trails and explore some pretty roads in the area. Please bring LIGHTS in case we return close to dark. Our mileage will be determined by how much evening light we have. Occasionally, this ride may meet earlier in afternoon, due to other event in evening.     Level B-: 14mph, 51.5 miles. Meet at Flourtown Shopping Center. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. FOR AUGUST 18: Pretty and scenic meander from Flourtown to Souderton for lunch/coffee/snack at Broad Street Grind. Outbound via West Point and Harleysville, return via Lansdale and Gwynedd. Lunch stop in Souderton is at Mile 28. If riders would prefer a quicker (stand-up) lunch stop, we can go to Wawa, instead of Broad Street Grind. On the way out to lunch in Souderton, there are options for quick bathroom/snack breaks at Fischer's Park on Bustard Rd (Mile 17.5) and/or the Heckler Plains Farmstead (Mile 21.5). Rolling terrain with some climbs, but no severe climbing. Total elevation gain 2598ft. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Enjoy scenic adventures by bike on most Fridays, throughout the year.     Meet at Valley Preferred Cycling Center (the Velodrome), 1151 Mosser Road, Breinigsville, PA 18031 (Trexlertown). The event starts at 6:00 pm. BCP will have a display tent in the plaza of the Valley Preferred Cycling Center (aka, the Velodrome) in Trexlertown, during the Friday Night Races, sponsored by Bicycling Magazine. Gates open for Happy Hour at 6:00pm, but the ACTUAL RACES DO NOT BEGIN UNTIL 7:30pm, allowing you plenty of time to get there after work. BCP will be exhibiting here to promote our club's membership benefits & perks, as well as rides and upcoming events. Music will be playing in the plaza before the races, and there will be family- and kid-friendly entertainment. General Admission tickets are only $10/adult. Young children get free admission. Every seat has a great view of the track. In addition to the Breakaway Cafe, there is a souvenir booth, where visitors can purchase Velodrome merchandise.     Levels A-/B+: 16-17mph, B-: 14-15mph, C+: 13-14mph, C: 12-13mph, 45 miles. Meet at Central Park, Doylestown. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. Bring yer bike & sense of adventure. Some days we'll ride familiar favorite routes, other days we'll scope out new routes. Today we'll be doing one of our favorites, one of those rides where you say why don't I do this more often. We'll first ride to Brig O'Doons in Ottsville @ mile 21, and then onto Tabora's in Chalfont @ mile 34. Both stops have food, bathrooms and outdoor seating. Expect good company on some very scenic, safe and low trafficked roads. A few climbs here and there, but most of the elevation gain is over long, gradual climbs (51 ft./mi.). We'll regroup as needed, but be prepared to maintain the posted pace. Must also be willing to ride safely and obey traffic laws. Please preregister so we can know how many to expect. Check day of the ride if weather is iffy (rain cancels, but likely to reschedule for Wed.). Will make a call at least an hour prior to start time. This ride will follow the western section of the Mainline Greenway from Berwyn to Immaculata University, then descend to the CVT in Exton, and then follow the CVT east to the connection to the SRT in Norristown. From here we will ride west on the SRT to VFNP, cross the river and ride back up to the finish in Berwyn. Much of this ride is tree shaded and includes 1800 ft of climb. Gently paced, post-work evening ride to pedal away the day's stresses, suited for novice riders, newcomers to the area, and/or anyone seeking a low-intensity, relaxed, recovery ride. Cycle peaceful roads in Eastern Mont Co. Brief rest stop for quick snack/bathroom break half-way through. Planned mileage will depend on the length of evening daylight. Speed and distance will also depend on the riders in our group. Please bring lights in case we are delayed on our return.     Levels A-/B+: 16-17mph, B-: 14-15mph, C+: 13-14mph, C: 12-13mph, 45 miles. Meet at Centre Square Park (please park near the bathrooms). The ride leaves at 9:00 am. Bring yer bike & sense of adventure. Today we'll ride to the Graceful Glen Alpaca Farm in Telford. Overall, mostly flat to rolling, but a few short but steep-ish climbs here and there, particularly leading up to the Alpaca farm and a few miles afterwards. Expect good company on safe/low trafficked roads. Bathroom/water stop early at Fischer's Park on the way out (mile 11) and lunch stop in Skippack (mile 32.6, Wawa or other). Will regroup as needed, but must be able to ride the posted pace and must be willing to ride safely & obey traffic laws. Please preregister so we can know how many to expect. Check day of the ride if weather is iffy (rain cancels, but likely to reschedule for Wed.). Will make a call at least an hour prior to start time.     Level C- through D: 9.5-11.5mph, 12-30 miles. Meet at Glenside Public Library parking lot. The ride leaves at 6:00 pm. Relaxed-pace evening rides on Tuesdays throughout summer. Distance and pace will depend on the riders in our group. (Sunset time will also determine distance.) This ride is suited for novice riders, newcomers to the area, and/or anyone seeking a low-intensity recovery ride. Enjoy pretty and peaceful roads in eastern Montgomery County, pedaling away the stresses of the workday. We usually take a brief rest break mid-ride, depending on distance. Please bring water/Gatorade and a snack with you. Please also bring LIGHTS, in case we have a delay and are returning close to dark. Start by riding on Schuylkill River Trail, and/or, Cross County Trail, which connects the Schuylkill w/Plymouth Meeting . As riders get stronger, we can turn off the trails and explore some pretty roads in the area. Please bring LIGHTS in case we return close to dark. Our mileage will be determined by how much evening light we have. Occasionally, this ride may meet earlier in afternoon, due to other event in evening.
