Occasionally, ad-hoc rides are announced. These rides are sent by email to all members of the BCP email list. To join this list, click here.     Hike Leisurely Pace on Easy Trails, ~5-6 on foot miles. Meet at Fox Chase Lorimer Trailhead, Rhawn St and Elberon Ave. The hike leaves at 9:30 am. For November 1: Plan B Hike/Walk, since Leader has a wrist injury. Walk/hike on Lorimer/Pennypack Trails. Meet at trailhead on Rhawn St, across from the end of the Fox Chase Rail Station. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Enjoy scenic adventures by bike on most Fridays, throughout the year. Explore pretty, peaceful roads in suburban counties -- Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, etc. Starting points will vary, so that we can cycle through different regions. Please check daily calendar for details of each Friday's route -- terrain, mileage, rest stops, etc. Cue sheets and on-line route map provided for each ride. If weather conditions are not conducive to cycling, this ride may be replaced by a hike/walk. Let's do a pleasure bike ride up to the Paper Trail Bike Shop and Cafe in Rittenhouse Town, Wissakicon Park. At least it gets me out of bed and out cycling.     Levels B: 15mph Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 8:30 am. Various friendly rides per DAILY RIDE CALENDAR ranging from 35-80 miles. We will regroup as needed, but riders are expected to ride group pace. Bring food or money for snack along the way, as well as a spare tube, tire irons and multi-tool. Typically Andrew &/or Nick leads and Simon sweeps and, if needed, leads a slower pace ride. Check daily listing for route information.     Level D: 8mph, 35 miles. Meet at Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. There is a new paved bicycle trail out by the Philadelphia International Airport. Let's go explore the Tinicum Township Trail which will keep the Eastcoast Greenway route off the Industrial Highway in Tinicum Township for a few miles. Return by cycling counter clockwise around the airport on Fort Mifflin Rd. There will be a short coffee break early in the ride but not later.     Levels C+: 13-13.5mph, 42 miles. Meet at Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 9:30 am. Rolling to ambler. Bring your water bottles, and tubes and tools to fix your flats. Bring cash or a card for a mid ride stop for pizza. We will ride as a group, But in the event that you ride off the front or the back, then the gist of the route is posted.     Sun November 3, 2024 - Sunny Sunday Afternoon D Ride

    Level D: 8mph, 15 - 25 miles. Meet at The formal entrance to the Azalea Garden behind the Philadelphia Museum of Art by the Italian Fountain . The ride leaves at 12:00 pm. The Sunny Sunday Afternoon D Ride has been running for 45 years now almost without interruption. It is our club's most endearing ride. It is for those who are new to group club riding. It is for those who want to improve their cycling skills by learning the rules of the road, bicycle safely and even how to fix a flat tire when the occasion deflates itself. It is for those who are new to Philadelphia to discover safe cycling routes. It is for those who just want a socially friendly bicycle ride with others, making bicycle friends. Since we all should be in the best shape of the year let's test ourselves with a 43 mile/2400 feet of climbing to Nudy's or Whole Foods in Devon for lunch. Bring yer bike & sense of adventure. Expect good company on safe/low trafficked roads. Lunch stops may be sit down, takeout, or in a park. Will regroup as needed, but must be able to ride the posted pace. Must be willing to ride safely & obey traffic laws. Please preregister so we can know how many to expect. We'll regroup as needed, but riders are expected to ride the listed pace, which is the average speed at the end of the ride. Bring the ability and tools/tubes to fix a flat and money for the coffee stop. Details of each ride and route will be listed a couple of days before the ride.     Level D: 10-11.5mph, 28 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum.. The ride leaves at 10:00 am. While we still have sunshine and warm(ish) afternoons, let’s hit the TRAIL (Delaware River Trail and K&T Trail, that is), and ride to the far North East for lunch on the water at Maggies Waterfront Cafe. With an eclectic menu featuring everything from pierogies to kielbasa cheese steak, to fish tacos, or fish and chips, this attractive sports bar also claims an unbeatable waterfront view! Note, that the view includes Amaco Island Park just across the river (another destination for another day). If KYW advertises rain an hour before the ride, we will cancel, but the forecast for Saturday presently calls for bright sunshine.     Level C- through D: 10.5mph, 20-30 miles. Meet at Cosmic Cafe, Lloyd Hall, # 1 Boathouse Row, Kelly Dr, East Fairmount Park . The ride leaves at 10:00 am. This is a generic description of the ride which will go to one of three destinations every Tuesday:GET Cafe in Narberth; Farmers’ Market in Ardmore or Spread Bagelry in Wynnewood. Some climbing of 800 to 1000 feet. First part of ride will generally mean a climb into Fairmount Park, across the Strawberry Mansion Bridge up to Chamounix. And then proceed up Bryn Mawr Avenue. and on to our final destination of Narberth, Ardmore or Wynnewood. Afterwards I will go up cycle up to NORRITON SQUARE NURSING AND REHABILITATION CENTER and visit Anthony Brumel who is there in hospice care. Anthony began cycling with us on Sunday, March 18th, 1984. He has been a member ever since. Those who do not wishing to visit Anthony, I will point them in the right direction over SRT back to our start.     Level D: 9.5-10.5mph, 10-14 miles. Meet at Cosmic Cafe, Lloyd Hall, # 1 Boathouse Row, Kelly Dr, East Fairmount Park . The ride leaves at 10:00 am. It will be a chilly morning before turkey day, so lets take a little “warm-up” ride across town to La Colombé. We will take a slightly round-about route and stop for a little look-see at the Architectural Antiques Exchange store on 2nd Street. I’m pretty sure you won’t spend any money there cuz they don’t sell anything you can carry home by bicycle. After coffee we can decide whether to extend the ride by a few miles by looping down the Delaware River Trail into South Philly. Otherwise, we will circle back via Spruce St. and the SRT.     Level D: 9-12mph, 12-18 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum.. The ride leaves at 8:30 am. Casual paced ride through Fairmount Park and beyond. This will be a short ride early on Thanksgiving day to help build your appreciation of the Thanksgiving dinner later in the day. Please wear helmet(required by the club.) Please bring extra tube and tools to fix a flat, proper dress for the weather, water, and legs that just have to ride a bicycle today.

    Hike Leisurely Pace on Easy Trails, ~5-6 on foot miles. Meet at Fox Chase Lorimer Trailhead, Rhawn St and Elberon Ave. The hike leaves at 9:30 am. For Fridays in November: Plan B Hike/Walk, since Leader has a wrist injury. Walk/hike on Lorimer/Pennypack Trails. Meet at trailhead on Rhawn St, across from the end of the Fox Chase Rail Station. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Enjoy scenic adventures by bike on most Fridays, throughout the year. Explore pretty, peaceful roads in suburban counties -- Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, etc. Starting points will vary, so that we can cycle through different regions. Please check daily calendar for details of each Friday's route -- terrain, mileage, rest stops, etc. Cue sheets and on-line route map provided for each ride. If weather conditions are not conducive to cycling, this ride may be replaced by a hike/walk. As long as we are enjoying outdoor exercise, and Mother Nature, in the company of friends, we'll have a memorable outing. Cue sheets will be available.

Various friendly rides per DAILY RIDE CALENDAR ranging from 35-80 miles. We will regroup as needed, but riders are expected to ride group pace. Bring food or money for snack along the way, as well as a spare tube, tire irons and multi-tool. Typically Andrew &/or Nick leads and Simon sweeps and, if needed, leads a slower pace ride. Check daily listing for route information. During the summer season there is an optional after-ride drink at the Waterworks beer garden. Ride may be cancelled up to 1 hour prior to departure time.     Sat November 30, 2024 - CANCELLED Newark, DE to Turkey Point Lighthouse SCENIC Adventure - CO-LEADER(S) WELCOME UPDATED Route with Enhancements by Charlie B.

    Level B-/C+: 13.5-14.5mph, 60.5 miles. Meet at Parking lot of the Newark Shopping Center in the rear, behind the Big Z Pizza.. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. In honor of Thanksgiving turkey, this ride is a revival of the late Peter Odell's classic route to the Turkey Point Lighthouse, on the scenic and peaceful peninsula between the Elk River and the North East River, at the head of the Chesapeake Bay. Recently updated by Charlie B., with route enhancements. Mostly quiet roads in northwestern Delaware and northeastern Maryland. Wawa at Mile 17. Lunch stop at mile 19, in the adorable town of Northeast, MD. We can eat out lunch by the river in the town park. ScenicTurkey Point Lighthouse at the tip of the peninsula is at mile 33. (The Lighthouse Trail runs right along the perimeter of the peninsula.) On the return, we have a rest stop at a market/deli at mile 45, as well as a Wawa option at Mile 50.5 in Elkton. Total elevation gain is 3913 feet. Mostly rolling terrain, with some steep climbs (up-down-up-down) close to the lighthouse at the tip of the peninsula. We will stop to regroup as needed. Travel time from Philadelphia to Newark is ~one hour. Driving Directions from Philadelphia: I-95 South into DE, then DE-273 West toward Newark/Univ. of DE. DE-273 will lead you to Main St. The Newark Shopping Center, immediately before Pomeroy Rail Trail bike parth, the will be on your right side. Friendly scenic rides involving hills, a nice coffee shop, and pastries. Length of ride is dependent on high temperature of the day. We'll regroup as needed, but riders are expected to ride the listed pace, which is the average speed at the end of the ride. Bring the ability and tools/tubes to fix a flat and money for the coffee stop. Details of each ride and route will be listed a couple of days before the ride.
