Level C+: 13-14mph, 55 +/- miles. Meet at Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 8:20 am. Assemble at 8:20. Depart at 8:25 SHARP! Ride through East Fairmount Park, East Falls, Wyncote, Flourtown, Ambler, Talamore, and North Wales to Lansdale Starbucks (at mile 32 or so) for 35-minute coffee stop (it's all about the coffee), then return via Gwynedd, Blue Bell, Plymouth Meeting, and Manayunk. Several hills but no killers (approx. 2,800 feet climbing). Will regroup as necessary, but riders are expected to achieve posted speed (i.e., what our computers show as avg. at end of ride). Fri November 7, 2025 - Friday Frolic Round Valley Reservoir Adventure - Updated Route by Charlie B!
Level B-/C+: 13-14mph, 62 miles. Meet at Holcombe Jimison Farmstead, 1605 Daniel Bray Highway, Lambertville, NJ 08530. The ride leaves at 9:30 am. Updated route by Charlie B. Very pretty and scenic meander through Hunterdon County, including quaint towns and bridge crossings over the Raritan River. On our way to the reservoir and to lunch in Whitehouse Station, we have a convenience store rest stop at Mile 14. Cervenka Farm Market is at Mile 18.5. Just before the reservoir, Sweet Melissa's Bakery & Pastries is at Mile 25. Scenery break at the reservoir at Mile 28. Heading into Whitehouse Station for lunch, there is a park with bathrooms at Mile 34. Lunch at Jerry's Brooklyn Grille at Mile 35. On the return, there is a Wawa at Mile 44. Total elevation gain is 3018 ft (this new route by Charlie B. has slightly less climbing), with most of the climbing in the first half. Start/Finish is the gravel parking lot behind the Holcombe Jimison Farmstead. There is no restroom in this parking lot, but restrooms are available nearby at the CVS. Also, at Mile 2.9 of the route, there are restrooms at Prallsville Mills. CO-LEADERS WELCOME to lead this ride at alternative speed groups. Forbidden Dr might as well be forbidden to cyclists who don't like gravel but I heard about the newly constructed walking path from the east Valley Green Rd parking lot to the Valley Green Inn on Forbidden Dr along the Wisahicon Creek. I want to experience this new, environmentally sensitive walking path before I go cycle touring for the next two weeks. And yes we will walk our bikes down the short distance to the Valley Green Inn. If we can not get coffee without formally sitting down, we will cycle down Forbidden Dr to the Paper Trail Bike Cafe. Level B-: 14-15mph, 70 (or 58 short-cut) miles. Meet at Fort Mott State Park, 454 Fort Mott Rd, Pennsville, NJ 08070 GPS: DMS 39° 36’ 09.80 ” N 75° 32' 55.39. Still working on the punchline..... This scenic loop, near Delaware Bay, will take us on quiet, country roads through farmlands, marshlands, & across peaceful creeks and rivers. Terrain is very gentle -- mostly flat, with a couple of small climbs, but these are less than 150 ft each. Total elevation gain is 1178 ft. This route will venture down to the inlet and marina on the Cohansey River. Rest stops at mile 23 (Alloway), mile 38 (Greenwich), and mile 54 (Hancock's Bridge). SHORT-CUT OPTION: There will be a self-guided short-cut for those wanting to ride ~58 miles. The shorter version will not go down to Greenwich or the inlet, but will have two rest stops at Alloway and Hancock's Bridge. This is a pretty and scenic meander in outer Montgomery County to visit the friendly alpacas at Graceful Glen Farm at Mile 19....they usually come right up to the fence to say "hello" to us. On the outbound, we have a quick bathroom & water break at Fischer's Park on bustard Rd at Mile 11. Please bring snacks with you. On the return from the alpaca farm, we can stop at Hennings Market in Harleysville at Mile 26 for a sit-down lunch stop, if riders prefer. There is also an optional Wawa stop in Skippack at Mile 31. The total elevation gain is a tame 2001 ft, averaging less than 44 ft/mile ft/mile. Terrain is mostly gently rolling, with a few climbs, but nothing extreme. Level B-: 14mph, 63 (53 short-cut) miles. Meet at French Creek State Park, parking lot at Hopewell Lake, near the boat launch area. The ride leaves at 9:15 am. An incredibly scenic ride through the Oley Valley in Berks County. Thanks to Rich Wagner for the original version of this picturesque route, and thanks to Charlie B. to updating the route. Featuring the crossing of two covered bridges, Three rest stops. One at your standard convenience store. One at a great little deli/restaurant in the quaint town of Oley. And even one at a chocolatier. Terrain will consist of significant climbs for the first and last 15 miles , but this route has been adjusted, so that the beginning and ending climbs over the ridge are more gentle, less steep. The middle 30 is rolling to flat. This will be one of the prettiest rides you will do this year. Cue sheets will be available. Total climbing 3847 feet. We will stop to regroup as needed. DRIVING DIRECTIONS to French Creek State Park: Take the Main PA Turnpike (I-76) West to the Downingtown Exit. This is two exits beyond (west of) the Valley Forge exit. After leaving the Turnpike, take PA 100 North/Pottstown Pike for 4 miles. You will pass through the town of Eagle. Turn left onto Conestoga Rd/PA-401 West. Stay on 401 West for 6 miles, then turn right onto PA-345 North/Bulltown Rd. Follow PA-345 North for 4 miles. There will be signs on 345 for French Creek State Park, and Hopewell Lake. We will ride in a big circle starting on the SRT (detouring around the trail sinkhole), and continuing through Center City, the southern part of the SRT, South Philly neighborhoods, FDR Park and, finally, the Navy Yard. Along the way we may stop at Cacia’s Bakery to pick up some bread or pizzas to take home and freeze to have on hand for football Sundays. We will also check out the recently converted historic building that houses the new FDR Park Welcome Center. At the Navy Yard we will stop for coffee at Shop 543. Continuing our tour of the Navy Yard, we will look at the Chapel of the Four Chaplians and check out some of the brand new residential amenities that are beginning to go up. Leaving the Navy Yard, we will pass the Philadelphia Stadiums (otherwise known as Fields of Dreams) before riding over to the Delaware River Trail which will take us back to Spring Garden Street to cross town to the Art Museum to complete our loop. Fri November 21, 2025 - Friday Frolic w/Linda. Holicong Park in Buckingham to Frenchtown, NJ - 5-Star Route by Charlie B. Short-Cut Option Available
Level B-/C+: 13-14mph, 45 miles. Meet at Holicong Park, Buckingham. The ride leaves at 9:45 am. Very pretty and scenic route by Charlie B, based in Bucks County, PA, and Hunterdon County, NJ. This is a peaceful route leaving from Buckingham. Optional quick stop for bathroom & snack at Mile 9 in Stockton. Lunch stop in charming Frenchtown at Mile 27. After the lunch stop, we have a 9-mile flat stretch on River Rd/NJ-29. Return to PA via the bridge at Bulls Island. If riders need another brief stop for water/bathroom/snack, the Lumberville Store is at Mile 37. Total climbing 2304 ft, averaging 52 ft/mile. No killer climbs. Most of the climbing is before the lunch stop, then we are up on a fairly level plateau. Leaving the Navy Yard, we will pass the Philadelphia Stadiums (otherwise known as Fields of Dreams) before riding over to the Delaware River Trail which will take us back to Spring Garden Street to cross town to the Art Museum to complete our loop. Level B-/C+: 13mph, 30 miles. Meet at Lions Pride Park, 3129 Bradley Rd near Folly Rd, Warrington. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. Let's pedal some miles before our Thanksgiving feasts later today. Pretty meander on quiet roads in Bucks County. Rest break for coffee/snack in Doylestown at Mile 19 - choice of places to stop, e,g,, Weis Market, Panera, etc. On our way to the food stop, optional porta-potty or restroom stops available at Mile 9 (Central Park) or Mile 16 (Veterans Memorial Park). After the food stop, we return via the 202 Parkway Trail. Rolling terrain with no extreme climbing. Total elevation gain 1566 ft, averaging 52 ft/mile. Most of the elevation is before the food stop. Pretty loop from Horsham Library through Montgomery and Bucks Counties, in search of good coffee (and tasty treats). Cycle past Pine Run Reservoir at Mile 13, then scenic Lake Galena at Mile 15. Quick stop at Tabora Farm Market in Chalfont at Mile 18. At Mile 28, there is a mega-Wawa, if riders want to stop. Returning via Hatfield and Lansdale, we'll be at Back Yard Beans in Lansdale at Mile 33, if riders want to stop for a good cuppa' Joe. Leaving Lansdale, we'll take the new Liberty Bell Trail. The last part of the ride takes us through Gwynedd, and we return to Horsham Library on the Horsham Power Line Trail. Mostly rolling terrain, with most climbing in the middle of the route. Level B-/C+: 13.5-14.5mph, 60.5 miles. Meet at Parking lot of the Newark Shopping Center in the rear, behind the Big Z Pizza.. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. In honor of Thanksgiving turkey, this ride is a revival of the late Peter Odell's classic route to the Turkey Point Lighthouse, on the scenic and peaceful peninsula between the Elk River and the North East River, at the head of the Chesapeake Bay. Recently updated by Charlie B., with route enhancements. Mostly quiet roads in northwestern Delaware and northeastern Maryland. Wawa at Mile 17. Lunch stop at mile 19, in the adorable town of Northeast, MD. We can eat out lunch by the river in the town park. ScenicTurkey Point Lighthouse at the tip of the peninsula is at mile 33. (The Lighthouse Trail runs right along the perimeter of the peninsula.) On the return, we have a rest stop at a market/deli at mile 45, as well as a Wawa option at Mile 50.5 in Elkton. Total elevation gain is 3913 feet. Mostly rolling terrain, with some steep climbs (up-down-up-down) close to the lighthouse at the tip of the peninsula. We will stop to regroup as needed. Travel time from Philadelphia to Newark is ~one hour. Driving Directions from Philadelphia: I-95 South into DE, then DE-273 West toward Newark/Univ. of DE. Level B-/C+: 12.5-14mph, 30 miles. Meet at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy. The ride leaves at 1:10 pm. 11/30: Pretty, meandering loop from the Cherokee St parking lot of Springside Chestnut Hill Academy, to Blue Bell and Flourtown. Rest stop options at Mile 11 (Aldi Market) and/or Mile 23 (Giant Market). Part of the route includes the Schuylkill River Trail between Spring Mill and Conshohocken, and the Cross-County Trail. Total climbin is 1768 ft, averaging 58 ft/mile. START/FINISH: the Middle School parking lot of Springside Chestnut Hill Academy, on Cherokee St. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Sunday afternoon winter ride, for those who have other plans on Sunday morning. Focus is to enjoy some sunshine/fresh air therapy with friends, curb holiday/winter weight gain, and maintain base-level fitness during the off-season, to have an easier transition into early spring rides when March comes around again. Starting points will vary, but usually we will meet close to the Wissahickon. Brief rest stop mid-ride for coffee/restroom/snack break. HELMETS are mandatory. FRONT & REAR LIGHTS are MANDATORY, due to early darkness. Distance will be determined by sunset time. Depending on road or trail conditions, this ride may be replaced by a hike/walk.
