    Tue January 1, 2019 - NEW YEAR'S DAY HOT SOUP RIDE - CO-LEADER(S) WELCOME

    Level B-: 14mph, 54 miles. Meet at Upper Dublin High School. The ride leaves at 9:30 am. Special route from Upper Dublin High School to the Wegman's Food Court in Collegeville. Outbound via Blue Bell, East Norriton, and Eagleville, return via Oaks, Schuylkill River Trail, Norristown Farm Park, and Ambler. On the outbound, we have a quick rest stop for bathroom & snack at a Wawa in East Norriton at mile 16. Indoor lunch stop at Wegman's is at mile 30. Most of the climbing is before the lunch stop. Total elevation gain is 2845 feet. The return includes a 5-mile stretch on the flat SRT. No one dropped, but we will try to maintain the advertised pace.     Tue January 1, 2019 - Scenic Kimberton ride (ad-hoc ride)

    Level C+: 12mph, 35 miles. Meet at Chesterbrook - Wilson Farm Park - Lee Rd at Wilson Rd. The ride leaves at 9:30 am. Explore a few new roads to Kimberton. We will start on the Chester Valley Trail to warm up the legs, then there will be climbing (Graded and paced accordingly). I am out of shape, so if any riders want to drop me, feel free. The Q sheet will be accurate. Short stop at Kimberton Whole Foods, then back. Note the later start time for those who had a long night ringing in the New Year. Cue sheets will be available.

    Tue January 1, 2019 - Let's ride to the Mummer's Parade

    Level D: 10-13mph, 14-30 miles. Meet at Jacobs Engineering Parking Lot. The ride leaves at 11:00 am. OWLS (Older, Wiser, Longer, Slower) paced ride for any age through Fairmount Park and beyond. Distance will depend on assemble group's experience and weather conditions. There will be some instructional and safety instruction. Bring helmet (required by the club), extra tube, water, proper clothing for cold weather, $ for mid-ride snack. Good holiday spirit is welcomed We will ride the Schuylkill River Trail to the Kimmel Center to watch part of the parade from there. Then we will head to the Cosmic Café for a nice snack. We should plan on taking the train back to Conshohocken. There is a 10:26 AM train from 30th Street Station arriving in Conshohocken at 10:44 We will aim to catch the 5:26 PM train back to Conshohocken. You may ride back to Conshohocken on the SRT if you don't want to take a train.

    Level B-: 14.5-15mph, 58 +/- miles. Meet at Manayunk theater parking lot. The ride leaves at 9:30 am. Assemble at 9:30. Depart at 9:35 SHARP! Going out via Upper Dublin High School and Cedar Hill Road, return via Gwynedd Mercy University and Brushtown Road. Several hills but no killers. 30-minute coffee stop at Backyard Beans. (It's all about the coffee!). Will regroup at top of hills if necessary, but riders are expected to maintain posted speed (what our computers read upon ride completion).     Wed January 2, 2019 - Nighttime Phoenixville Dog Ride

    Level C+: 13.5-14.5mph, 25-35 miles. Meet at Reynolds Dog Park, Longford Rd, Oaks, PA. The ride leaves at 6:30 pm. The nighttime Phoenixville Dog rides will continue until daylight savings time begins. A strong headlight and taillight are required. The rides are on low traffic roads and feature rolling to hilly terrain. No one dropped, but please be prepared to ride the advertised pace over rolling to hilly terrain. Precipitation cancels. Ice on the road cancels. Temperatures below 15 degrees at the scheduled start time cancels. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Level B-: 14.5mph, 45+/- miles. Meet at Manayunk Movie Theater Parking Lot. The ride leaves at 9:30 am. Assemble at 9:30. Depart at 9:35 SHARP! Saturday looks like a washout. Ride through East Falls, Wyndmoor, Oreland, Fort Washington, Upper Dublin, Ambler. Several hills but no killers. 35-minute coffee stop at Abyss in Ambler or Starbucks in Flourtown. (It's all about the coffee!). Will regroup at top of hills if necessary, but riders are expected to maintain posted speed (what our computers read upon ride completion). PLEASE PREREGISTER: saves time; ensures that I will be able to read important emergency info; and no problem if you change your mind and don't show up since we will not be waiting past the posted departure time.     Fri January 4, 2019 - Friday Afternoon Frolic w/Linda. Schuylkill River Ramble from Bala Cynwyd to Oaks, for Coffee

    Level B-: 14mph, 44 miles. Meet at Trailhead parking lot for Cynwyd Heritage Trail, near Belmont Ave & East Levering Mill. The ride leaves at 12:30 pm. Leader has to work in the morning to make up for New Year's Day off, so today's Friday Frolic will be in the afternoon. Easy, mostly flat route from Bala Cynwyd, along the SRT, almost to Phoenixville, then to Oaks for a quick coffee stop. On the outbound portion, we cross the Schuylkill River on the Pencoyd Bridge. On the return, we cross the river on the Manayunk Trail Bridge. Total climbing 1440 feet. At the mid-way coffee stop, we have a choice of Wawa, Dunkin' Donuts, or Starbucks.     Levels A: 16-17mph, 40-55 miles. Meet at Main Line Cycles front of shop 919 Montgomery Ave. The ride leaves at 8:05 am. Great roads with low traffic. We have a few routes that bring us out around or through Ridley Creek State Park. Average speed will be 16-17 mph, but note that these routes include over 4000' of climbing.     Level B-: 14mph, 50 miles. Meet at Upper Dublin High School. The ride leaves at 9:30 am. RESCHEDULED for SAT., 1/19, IN HOPES OF DRY WEATHER. Scenic loop from Ft. Washington to the Food Court in Hennings Market in Harleysville. Outbound via North Wales, Lansdale, and Hatfield. Return from Harleysville via Evansburg, Center Square, and Flourtown. On the outbound segment, we have a quick rest stop if needed for bathroom and snack at mile 16 in Lansdale. Indoor lunch stop at Hennings at mile 28. On the return, we will pass a couple of parks with bathroom facilities or a porta-potty, if another quick break is needed. Total elevation gain is 2240 ft, no killer climbs.     Level B: 15mph, 48 +/- miles. Meet at Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 8:45 am. Assemble at 8:45. We willl leave at 8:50 SHARP! Ride through Belmont, Wynnewood, Havertown, Haverford, Merion, Bryn Mawr, Villanova, Radnor, Devon, Wayne, Gulph Mills, Conshohocken, Manayunk, etc. Many hills, including 12 (or so) relatively long ones. One 35-minute coffee stop in Devon (Pour Richards) at mile 26 or so. (It's all about the coffee.) Will regroup at top of long hills as needed, but riders are expected to achieve advertised pace (which is what our computers read as "average" at the finish).     Hike Moderate Pace on Moderate Trails, 6.5 - 8 miles. Meet at Bruno's, Northwestern and Germantown Aves. The hike leaves at 9:30 am. Please join Tracey and Gary on a hike of the beautiful Wissahickon Gorge. We'll have fun as we find our way around this beautiful part of Fairmount Park. We'll mostly be on the trails but there are also flatter options along the way for those who want a more direct way back. The pace, which always provides a good workout, will be determined by the group. The distance we cover is usually around 7 miles. The trails can get wet and icy so be sure you have appropriate footwear (waterproof shoes and ice cleats depending on the conditions). Well-behaved, four-legged friends are welcome but they must be kept on a leash at all times. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Levels B- through C: 13-14mph, 41 miles. Meet at Spring Mill Train Station (parking lot on Hector St.). The ride leaves at 10:00 am. Meet in the parking lot at Spring Mill train station on Hector Street at 9:45 am. for a prompt 10 am. start. Hilly ride through Manayunk into the beautiful Main Line. There are 2900 feet of climbing. Pace is 13 to 14 mph. This is the average speed our computers will read at the end of the ride. We will regroup but you must be able to maintain the stated pace. Wawa stop at mile 23.     Sun January 6, 2019 - Sunday Afternoon (Post-Hike) Winter Ramble - Bruno's to Oaks for coffee, via SRT

    Level B-: 14mph, 39 miles. Meet at Bruno's, Northwestern and Germantown Aves. The ride leaves at 1:15 pm. For 1/6 - Time-saving, out-and-back trip on the SRT to the Dunkin' Donuts/Wawa/Starbucks in Oaks for hot coffee at the half-way point. The trail will save us some time, due to no cars, no red lights. LIGHTS are MANDATORY, due to early sunset. Plan is to return by 5:00pm. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Scenic loop, usually thru Montgomery Co. or Lower Bucks, with brief rest stop. Unless otherwise stated, meet most Sundays at Bruno's (finishing point for many of the Sunday AM Wissahickon hikes). Occasionally meet at another location in Chestnut Hill. Plan to return by 5:00pm.     Level D: 10mph, 32 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. Another 100% on bike trail ride. SRT and the Cross County Trail just north of Conshohocken. Spin your way to IKA, they have a very friendly cafeteria for a halfway rest stop. Put yourself in one gear lower than you normally ride in so the legs will stoke the heater of the body. IKA has lots of small items, so last min stocking stuffers might be found and carried home on the bicycle. Rain or snow one hour to start cancels. Cue sheets will not be available.

Scenic loop from the Hawk Watch point of Fort Washington State Park to Wegman's Market in Warrington, for something hot and hearty, surrounded by warm conversation and laughter. Part of the outbound route will include the 202 Parkway bike path. Quick indoor rest break for bathroom and quick snack at mile 18.5 at Del Val College Market, then indoor lunch stop at Wegman's at mile 31. Rolling terrain with a few climbs, but nothing too steep -- total climbing 2700'. Stop to regroup as needed. No one dropped, but we will try to maintain the advertised pace. Let's explore some less-travelled trails above the Wissahickon Creek, and find some good paths to climb. Flat option via Forbidden Drive on the return. Well-behaved canine hikers are always welcome. Ride through Bala Cynwyd, Wynnewood, Havertown, Haverford, Merion, Bryn Mawr, Villanova, Radnor, Devon, Wayne, Gulph Mills, Conshohocken, etc. Many hills, including 10 (or so) relatively long ones. One 35-minute coffee stop in Devon (Pour Richards) at mile 22 or so. (It's all about the coffee.)     Levels A: 16-17mph, 40-55 miles. Meet at Main Line Cycles front of shop 919 Montgomery Ave. The ride leaves at 9:05 am. Great roads with low traffic. We have a few routes that bring us out around or through Ridley Creek State Park. Average speed will be 16-17 mph, but note that these routes include over 4000' of climbing. Bring a snack for a brief mid-ride break. Consider the on-line routes approximate. Leave by 9:05 AM. Rain cancels. Cue sheets will not be available.     Level B-: 14mph, 30-50 miles. Start location to be determined. The ride leaves at 9:15 am. Bring your 29er, CX, Gravel or equip your road bike with wider tires as we mashup rides across various asphalt, gravel and sometimes dirt terrains. Expect a good challenge as we grind gravel trails and hit a few climbs with great company for no other purpose than to have fun and put in a few unpaved miles.

    Sun January 27, 2019 - Sunday Afternoon (Post-Hike) Winter Ramble Ride (General description -- specific details will be posted for each Sunday)

    Level B-: 14mph, 32-36 miles. Meet at Bruno's, Northwestern and Germantown Aves. The ride leaves at 1:20 pm. Scenic loop, usually thru Montgomery Co. or Lower Bucks, with brief rest stop. Unless otherwise stated, meet most Sundays at Bruno's (finishing point for many of the Sunday AM Wissahickon hikes). Occasionally meet at another location in Chestnut Hill. Plan to return by 5:00pm. Please bring LIGHTS. Specific details posted for week. Every Sunday throughout winter (during hiking season), weather permitting, EXCEPT 2nd Sun in Feb. If weather is not bike-friendly, this ride may be replaced by snow activity. Keep moving throughout winter - maintain base fitness level for the return of spring cycling in March. Cue sheets will be available.

    Level B-: 14mph, 15 miles. Meet at Planet Fitness 2641 E. York St at Aramingo Ave, Port Richmond. The ride leaves at 5:15 pm. Easy, flat ride to and from the monthly newsletter mailing party at Tom Witt's office downtown. We'll help the crew prepare the February Quick Release for mailing. Light refreshments will be served. LIGHTS and LOCKS are mandatory - we will be locking our bikes outside the building. Meet at the Planet Fitness on East York St near Aramingo Ave, in the Port Richmond neighborhood. It is optional, but you may preregister until Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at 3:00 pm.

    Wed January 30, 2019 - Nighttime Phoenixville Dog Ride

    Level C+: 13.5-14.5mph, 25-35 miles. Meet at Reynolds Dog Park, Longford Rd, Oaks, PA. The ride leaves at 6:30 pm. The nighttime Phoenixville Dog rides will continue until daylight savings time begins. A strong headlight and taillight are required. The rides are on low traffic roads and feature rolling to hilly terrain. No one dropped, but please be prepared to ride the advertised pace over rolling to hilly terrain. Precipitation cancels. Ice on the road cancels. Temperatures below 15 degrees at the scheduled start time cancels. Cue sheets will not be available.
