Gently paced, post-work evening ride to pedal away the day's stresses, suited for novice riders, newcomers to the area, and/or anyone seeking a low-intensity recovery ride. Relaxed pace.     Level B: 15mph, 25 -35 miles. Meet at Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 6:00 pm. A moderately hilly ride conquering Main Line hills that regroups at the top of each climb. As the days lengthen, so does the ride and we should be nearing 30 - 35 miles by July.     Level B-: 14mph, 51 miles. Meet at Valley Forge National Park visitor center lower parking lot. The ride leaves at 9:15 am. Gorgeous new route by Charlie B., meandering from Valley Forge National Historical Park through scenic Chester County to Ludwig's Corner. From Ludwig's Corner, head to Parker Ford for ice cream at Kolb's Dairy. Return via Spring City and Phoenixville. When we get to Mont Clare/Oaks, we pick up the flat SRT to Betzwood. Rest stops include the new mega-Wawa on Route 100 at Mile 25. Kolb's Dairy at Mile 35. There is another Wawa in Spring City at Mile 37. Rolling terrain with 3267 ft climbing. Most of the climbing is before the ice cream stop. COVID PRECAUTIONS: Please practice safe social distancing, and bring a mask and hand sanitizer.     Level B: 15-15.5mph, 98 miles. Meet at Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 8:15 am. Consider this the next step up from the Toss of the DIce "C+" with more hills (5,300) ft. We will regroup as needed, but riders are expected to ride group pace. Bring money for snack along the way, as well as spare tubes. This week a picturesque century. Coffee stop in West Chester, tacos in Kennett Sq., and ice-cream in Swarthmore. Ride may be cancelled up to 1 hour prior to departure time. Please be familiar with the Bicycle Club of Philadelphia Rider Guidelines for COVID-19 Mitigation, and bring a mask for the rest stop.     Sat September 5, 2020 - Frenchtown to Merrill Creek Reservoir Challenge + Ice Cream, New & Improved Route by Charlie B. COVID PRECAUTIONS in Effect

    Level B-: 13.5-14mph, 63 miles. Meet at Frenchtown - parking lot just below Bridge St, between river and Canal Trail. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. Hilly but pretty loop through Warren and Hunterdon Counties, NJ, to the scenic Merrill Creek Reservoir. New & improved route by Charlie B. Ice cream at mile 58. This route includes a couple of 400-ft climbs, and one 640-ft climb, but the vistas from the summits are magnificent. We'll be riding mostly on quiet and shaded country roads, but also passing through the quaint towns of Milford, Riegelsville, Stewartsville, and Bloomsbury. Initial and final stretches of the route, along River Road, are flat. The challenging hills section, ~10 miles of climbing, is in the middle. Total elevation gain is 5100 ft, but we will stop to regroup as needed. Food stops at mile 24 in Stewartvsille (before climbing to the Reservoir), and at mile 46 in Bloomsbury. (We'll also have a brief photo/scenery stop at the spectacular Reservoir at mile 31.) From the food stop in Bloomsbury, we'll descend to the village of Little York, then return to Milford and Frenchtown via downhill-to-flat roads. Depending on where you live, please allow an hour for the drive to Frenchtown. COVID PRECAUTIONS in Effect: please bring mask and hand sanitizer, and practice safe social distancing, as per BCP Guidelines (20 ft apart while cycling, at least 6 ft apart when stopped). OWLS (Older, Wiser, Longer, Slower) paced ride for young and old through Fairmount Park and beyond. Please wear helmet and mask (required by the club)! Bring sunscreen, hand sanitizer, extra tube, water, and $ for mid ride snack stop. There might be a hill or two to help conditioning for longer rides. We will regroup at the top of hills to allow catching our breaths.

    Mon September 7, 2020 - Labor Day Holiday Special: Brandywine-Lancaster Co. Adventure + Ice Cream. COVID PRECAUTIONS in EFFECT

    Level B-: 13.5-14mph, 77 miles. Meet at Charles F. Patton Middle School, 760 Unionville Rd, Kennett Square, PA 19348.. The ride leaves at 8:30 am. Picturesque treat: Charlie B.'s 3.0 version of the DVBC's 2019 Brandywine Tour, with rest stops at stores added. Many thanks to Nancy M. of DVBC for the original route! This peaceful & scenic route goes into Lancaster County and now includes Octoraro Reservoir. There are a couple of hard-pack gravel sections as a tribute to Peter Odell. The route goes through three covered bridges. Our food stops will be open on Labor Day Monday: Krieder's Market at Mile 26, Sunrise Grovery at Mile 37, Turkey Hill Market at Mile 54. Near the finish, we can stop for ICE CREAM at Foxy Loxy at Mile 76. Along the way, we will also have other opportunities to stop for water and/or porta-potty. Rolling terrain, with a few challenging climbs. Total climbing 4571 ft. Please review the route map & elevation profile on RWGPS.com before the ride.     Mon September 7, 2020 - Finally the Annual Postponed Memorial Day Ride to Reading

    Level D: 9-13mph, 35 miles. Meet at River Front Park, Pottstown, PA. The ride leaves at 9:30 am. OWLS (Older, Wiser, Longer, Slower) paced ride mostly on the Schuylkill River Trail. Please bring helmet and face mask (required by the club. Bring water, extra tube, $ for mid-ride stop at the outdoor seating of the Queen City Diner in West Reading. The route is both paved and on crushed stone, which has been passable with road bikes, however, wider tires might be more comfortable. There is parking at the Riverfront Park, Pottstown. It is near the intersection of Hanover and College, just off of RT 422. The parking lot can be seen from the Schuylkill River Greenway NHA, 140 College Dr., Pottstown, PA Cue sheets will be available.

From Horsham Library, outbound via Lake Galena (including part of the lakeside trail) & Peace Valley Park and Plumsteadville, to New Hope, for lunch at Mile 34. Before lunch, we can take a brief snack & restroom break at either Peace Valley or Hansell Park. On the return via Forest Grove and Warrington, we can stop at Sparta Convenience Store at Mile 49, if needed. Gently rolling terrain with 3141 ft climbing. START/FINISH at Horsham Library - just down the street from Simmons Elementary School on Babylon Rd. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Enjoy scenic adventures by bike on most Fridays, throughout the year.     Level C- through D: 10-12mph, 50 miles. Meet at Cosmic Cafe, Lloyd Hall, # 1 Boathouse Row, Kelly Dr, East Fairmount Park . The ride leaves at 9:30 am. Join us on the first Friday of Fall for a 50-mile round-trip ride for a picnic lunch along the Perkiomen Creek in Oaks, PA. We will ride from Cosmic Cafe (#1 Boathouse Row) out the SRT through Manayunk, past Conshohocken and Norristown, beyond Valley Forge, then north about 1.5 miles on the Perkiomen Trail to the picnic grove at Lower Perkiomen Valley Park. We will visit the Wawa about ¾ of a mile from the park, then stop for our lunch. We will return via the Audubon Loop Trail with its short, steep hill (300 yards, 10.5 % grade) and the SRT, with a brief segment along River Road. Other than the Audubon Hill, it is a mostly flat ride. B.Y.O.S.S. (Bring Your Own Sandwiches and Stuff) or pick something up at Wawa. 2.5 hours outbound, about 60 minutes for the picnic, 2.5 hours return. Expect to be back between 3 and 4 pm.     Level B-: 14mph, 78 miles. Meet at Centre Square Park (please park near the bathrooms). The ride leaves at 8:30 am. Another stunningly beautiful and scenic route by Charlie B. Picturesque, 78-mi adventure from Centre Square Park in Whitpain to outer Montco. ICE CREAM stop at Longacre's Modern Dairy (37.4), and Wawa Zieglerville (56.7). Along the way, we'll cross a couple of scenic creeks, and ride past or through peaceful parks with restrooms or porta-potties. SHORT-CUT OPTION: There is also an easy cut-off at mile 30.8 to shorten the distance to almost a metric. Rolling terrain with some brisk climbs in the middle portion. Total elevation 4870 ft.
