Let's do something fun! Lets go look at some of those bridges! We'll be looking at some bridges that are in excellent condition, a couple of old bridges designed by a Paul Cret (a famous Philadelphia architect), and of course some crumbling bridges. You have the option of either starting at my house (where we will be leaving at 8:30) or meeting us at the entrance to the Azalea Garden behind the Art Museum (leaving at 9:30) The ride to and from my house will be about 35 miles. We should be back at the Azalea Garden by noon and back my house by 1:30. Bring snacks, a flashing rear light if possible, and plenty of water (it's going to be a beautiful day). The ride through center city will be flat, but the ride to and from my house will have a couple hills (Midvale Avenue), so be prepared for some climbing if you start at my house. The ride will be at a leisurely pace and we'll be making plenty of stops. No cue sheets. HELMET REQUIRED! If you have any questions or need directions to my house, email me or call (215-872-3559)

ADOPT A HWY OPTIONAL RIDE: SCHUYKILL CANAL DAY

Level C, 10-12 mph, 15-20 miles. VFNHP Betzwood-near the rest rooms. The ride leaves at 10:00 am. Cue sheets will not be available.
    Leader: Arnie Roseman, , 610-640-4529

NEW START TIME Start after after the Adopt A Highway cleanup. We do a “flat” trail ride to the annual (31st) Schuylkill Canal Day celebration at Lock 60, the only operating lock on the river today. We bike to MONT CLARE/PORT PROVIDENCE, St Michael’s picnic ground for lunch ($) in a well shaded area with tables, the usual picnic concessions, and rest rooms. Then we do a short stroll on a road/trail through the woods with our bikes to enter the Lock area - $5.00 admission, visit the lock Tender’s House and then view the lock. Depending on the timing we may see the 15th annual Canal Joust, canal opening, canoe and kayak race. On the west side of the Lock and canal there usually are vendors, musicians and other entertainment. You may want to do some birding on the east bank river and ravine trails: bring suitable shoes and binoculars. Everyone should carry cash, snack, beverage, and lock.
