    Leader: David C. Ziccardi, , 267-230-8995

Don't be fooled by the cheap (and butchered) immitation of this ride that was led a few weekends ago. Unparalled ride through Hunterdon and Warren Counties on mostly traffic light to traffic free roads. Al fresco lunch at Skoogy's in historic Belivdere, NJ, which features many restored victorian houses. From lunch we will head though mostly small, isolated and pictureque communites along the Delaware River. Several challenging but manageable climbs and thrilling descents on the way out. The return is noticeably easier, but not flat. One additional stop on the way back if conditions warrant. A good cue sheet will be available. I hope to encourage people to experience new territory without worrying about being left on their own simply because they are slightly off the pace. With that aim in mind, we'll regroup at strategic places. I will probably be bringing up the rear on the major climbs and descents anyway. You will be free to go off the front with the understanding that you will be on your own if you do. This ride will start on time, so plan your arrival accordingly (i.e., at least 15 min. before the scheduled start time). Check this listing after 7 a.m. for a go/no-go message if the weather is questionable. Email for directions to the start by noon on Friday.

Philadelphia is a treasure trove of amazing architecture. There are hundreds old buildings in the city that are works of art - beautiful sculptures hidden in plain view. The problem is that we are usually too busy to stop and look up. On this ride we will stop, and look up. We will visit a about dozen beautiful, quirky and interesting buildings - most over 100 years old. We will not only learn about the buildings and the architects who designed them, but also a bit about the history of Philadelphia. (Did you know that the idea for the Eiffel Tower orginated in Philadelphia.) We won't be stopping at well-known buildings. That's what the duck boat and tour buses are for. We're going to look at stuff you never knew existed. We will be making plenty of stops. HELMET REQUIRED! Make sure your bike is in good working order and bring a spare tube (or two). If you have questions, email me or call.

    Leader: Thomas G. Madle, , 215-233-2578

We'll try to find the flattest roads and asphalt paved trails leading to some of the most nasty hills in the area. Hence the acronym "FAN" ( Flat and Nasty ). We'll typically have 2 or 3 major climbs dispersed within a relatively flat course. These will be good training rides. On the way "out" we'll typically take the quickest route to the SRT ( Schuykill River Trail), or other trail and then form a pace line along the trail. We'll then exit the trail and head toward our major climb for the evening. After the climb we'll try to find the flattest terrain to ride before heading back "in" to Flourtown. Since the days are now long ( sunset @ 8:40) we'll try to do about 35-40 miles at an overall average 14-16 mph pace. Bring your front lights since we may be arriving as late as 9pm back into the Flourtown parking lot. Also bring a minimum of 2 water bottles ( 3 bottles even better). We'll try to do a 5-10 min. water break somewhere along the course but I can't guarantee we'll always having a "watering hole" along the route so for this reason you should bring plenty of fluids along with you. Rain or expected rain may cancel or alter our plans. Tonight's major climb is Diamond Rock Road. We'll head out the SRT to Pawlings Rd and from there head over Ferry and Country Club Rd. to Diamond Rock. We'll head back in over Yellow Springs Rd to Rt 252, N. Valley, Pugh, and then follow Croton back to Conshohocken and the SRT north extension back to Flourtown.

There are 600,000 bridges in the US of which 69,000 are classified as structurally deficient. On this ride we will visit some of these bridges as well as other deteriorating structures. But this ride is not just about crumbling concrete and corroding steel. We’ll learn some interesting things about the history of Philadelphia along the way. There is a story behind every everything . And think about it. The Great Pyramid of Giza is one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. People travel from all over to visit it. So why go to Egypt to see a deteriorating structure when there are plenty right here in Philadelphia? We will also venture into a little-known half-mile long underground public street located in the heart of center city. (I was shown the "secret entrance" last year - and after this ride you too will be able to impress your friends and show them!) And we will ride our bikes under the subway. Not in the subway - under it. This ride will take you to places you never knew existed. This is actually a wonderfully scenic ride. I promise! The weather forecast for Saturday looks great! The only thing raining on us may be pieces of concrete (only kidding - I think). Bring a spare tube (or two), a flashing rear light (if possible) and water - AND YOUR HELMET of course. We will ride at a leisurely pace and will be making plenty of stops. You must be comfortable riding on city streets. Call or email if you have any questions. We will be back at the Azalea Garden by about 12:30.
