    Leader: David C. Ziccardi, , 267-230-8995

DESPITE WHAT YOU MAY INTERPRET AS A DIRE FORECAST, THE RIDE IS ON. THE LEADING EDGE OF THE FRONT IS PASSING THROUGH LANCASTER COUNTY NOW (5:45 A.M.) AND SHOULD BE PAST BY STAERT TIMEAn Edo classic through Lancaster County into Lebanon County for lunch (mile 39) on the patio of the famous Jigger Shop, which dates back to the 1800s. After lunch, we cross back into Lancaster County for a noticeably less hilly (but not flat) return. Brief water/bathroom only stop at mile 22 and a final c-store stop at mile 59. Some portable nutrition is recommended to get you to lunch. After the ride, you can stock up on all sorts of goodies at the market and even hit up the smorgasbord. There will be a shorter (47 mile) option that leaves the main route at mile 22, rejoins it at mile 53, skips Mt. Gretna and the hardest climbing and has one c-store stop. It will be self-guided once the routes split. We will regroup briefly at spots, but if you are consistently far off the front or back you will be expected to navigate on your own, so a cue sheet holder is strongly recommended, and two water bottles are a must. Due to its length and relative difficulty, this ride will start on time so please arrive at least 15 min. prior to the scheduled start time. Park in the back, right portion of the lot (near the llama pen). Email for directions to the start by noon the day before. Bad weather, including extreme heat and/or humidity, cancels. Check this listing by 6:30 a.m. for a go/no-go message if the weather is questionable.

Philadelphia is a treasure trove of beautiful architecture. There are hundreds old buildings in the city that are works of art - beautiful sculptures hidden in plain view! The problem is we are usually too busy to stop and look up. On this ride we will stop, and look up! We will visit about dozen beautiful, obscure and in some cases decaying structures (most over 100 years old) and learn about those buildings, the architects who designed them, and a bit about the history of Philadelphia. We won't be stopping at well-known buildings. That's what the duck boats and tour buses are for. We be visiting lesser known and in some ways, even more interesting buildings. This ride will meander east towards the Delaware River and back. You must be comfortable riding on city streets. We will return to the Art Museum by 12:30 pm. The ride will be at a leisurely pace and we will be making plenty of stops. HELMET REQUIRED! Make sure your bike is in good working order and bring along a spare tube or two and a water bottle - and a flashing tail light if you have it. If you drive to the Art Museum note that there is a 2-hour time limit on parking in the lot next to Lloyd hall. Park instead either on Sedgely Drive or in the lot under the twin bridges and ride your bike down Kelly Drive to the Art Museum. The ride is canceled if it is raining, if the roads are wet, or if there is more than a 50% chance of rain. Call or email me if you are not sure, or if you have any questions.
