Occasionally, ad-hoc rides are announced. These rides are sent by email to all members of the BCP email list. To join this list, click here.     Level C+ to B+, 13-17 mph, 25 miles. Meet at Jacobs Engineering Parking Lot. The ride leaves at 6:00 pm. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Ride day will vary. We'll either pick Tues, Wed., or Thursday to ride based on the Monday night extended weather forecast. This week the ride will be on Thursday. Level C+ to B+, 13-17 mph, 25 miles. Meet at Jacobs Engineering Parking Lot. The ride leaves at 6:00 pm. Paces from 13 -17 mph depending on who shows up. About 25 miles round trip to Lloyd Hall at Boat House Row and back to Conshohocken. Short bathroom break at Lloyd Hall. BRIGHT headlight and taillight required. Part of the ride is on the Schuykill River Trail that has no lights. Various ride leaders. Bring a snack and something to eat. Rain, wet roads, temps below 30 cancel.     Friday Frolic w/Linda. UDHS to NORRISTOWN to MEET THE SHERIFF, then Beyond. RIDE CANCELLED, due to rain, but we can still attend the Bicycle Safety event in Norristown at 11:00.

    Level B-/C+, 13-15 mph, 50, +/- miles. Meet at Upper Dublin High School. The ride leaves at 9:30 am. Cue sheets will be available.

    RIDE IS CANCELLED for 9:30, but, the event for bicycle safety at 10:30 is still scheduled at the Mont. Co. Courthouse. Scenic loop from Upper Dublin High School to Norristown Courthouse, for the press conference re. the Bicycle Safety Signs. After the press conference, we will continue on a Montgomery County loop. Route details and map link to follow. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Enjoy scenic adventures by bike on most Fridays, throughout the year. We'll explore pretty, peaceful roads in suburban counties -- Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, etc. Starting points will vary, so that we can cycle through different regions. Depending on the destination, starting point may be in Conshohocken, Flourtown, Jenkintown, Wayne, Valley Forge, etc. Please check the daily calendar for details of each Friday's route -- terrain, mileage, rest stops, etc. Cue sheets and on-line route map will be provided for each ride. Scheduled for virtually every Friday throughout the year, with a few exceptions here & there. If weather conditions are not conducive to cycling, this ride may be replaced by a hike/walk (on foot).     Sunny Sunday D Ride

    Level D, 10-12 mph, 18-22 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 12:00 pm. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Flat ride to the Outbound Station, using the tow path, and SRT Safety and equipment instruction provided as needed. Helmet, tube for tire and water required. Snack stop along the way. We will regroup as needed. Precipitation will cancel the ride so check the website in advance.


    Sunny Sunday C Spin-Off

    Bring yer bike and sense of adventure. Some days we'll ride familiar favorite routes, other days we'll scope out some new routes. Today we'll head out the long way to Skippack in search of a lunch stop (Wawa, Italian Market, Pizza, Other?). Scenic route with mostly rolling hills (no mountains today). Will regroup as needed, but must be able to maintain the posted pace. Often will have a sit-down lunch stop. Check day of the ride if weather is iffy (rain cancels).


    Conshohocken night rides

    Level c-b+, 13-18 mph, 25 +/- miles. Meet at Jacobs Engineering Parking Lot. The ride leaves at 6:00 pm.

    Ride groups and speeds will vary depending on the availability of ride leaders. Groups will be from a C to B+ with speed averages from 13 to 18 mph. A few hills (Umbria Street being the steepest). Riders must be able to maintain the average speed for the group they ride with. ALL RIDERS MUST HAVE STRONG HEADLIGHTS AND TAIL LIGHTS AS WE WILL BE RIDING IN THE DARK. REFLECTIVE CLOTHING IS ALSO HELPFUL. Rest stop at Lloyd Hall near the Art Museum. This is only a short stop for bathrooms and a quick snack. Bring something to drink and a snack. Optional food and drinks at a local watering hole after the ride.

    This weekly ride starts in the daylight and continues for two hours after sunset. Strong headlights and taillights are required. Wear your brightest most garish clothes. If you've always wanted to experience the thrill of night riding, but wanted to avoid cold weather, this is your opportunity. Low traffic roads, beautiful scenery (while the sun shines), and extended distances ! Don't lose your conditioning just because its getting darker earlier. Cheat the darkness and join us for excellent workouts - our first ride will be over 40 hilly miles. This is a road ride. Only one speed is offered.

    FOR OCT. 9: Pretty loop through Montgomery County (West Point, Harleysville, Souderton). Indoor food Stop at Hennings Market in Harleysville at mile 21. If the weather cooperates, we will continue for another 12 miles on an outer loop (north of Rte 63) toward Souderton. From Souderton, the outer loop returns to Harleysville at mile 33. If the weather is not cooperating, we can skip the outer loop. We'll return to the start via Skippack and Evansburg. Wawa stop at mile 38. Total climbing 2550 feet. We still stop to regroup as needed. No one dropped, but we will try to maintain the advertised pace. Scenic adventures by bike on most Fridays, throughout the year.     The 4th Annual Kitchen Sink Century

    We've had a series of three "Everything but the Kitchen Sink" rides to some favorite destinations such as Carversville, Harleysville, and New Hope. Its now time to combine them all into The Kitchen Sink Century. Note that the ride is completely non-supported (no SAG, no mechanics). Bring plenty of fluids and nutrition (only one food stop). Quick bathroom/water breaks along the way and a lunch stop in New Hope. Expect a relatively challenging ride, with lots of scenic, low trafficked roads and rolling hills, with a few climbs here and there. No one dropped, but please be prepared to ride the advertised pace.

    Cycle though West Fairmont Park, though Overbrook then crossing City Line Ave for a ride up Karakung Dr to Haverford, PA. We will stop for a late breakfast at a wonderful restaurant close to the intersection of Eagle Rd and Darby Rd. Return a whole different route.


    Saturday C+

    Level C+, 12-15 mph, 45-50 miles. Meet at Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 9:15 am. Cue sheets will be available.

    A friendly ride that regroups as necessary. Today, we'll be doing the Wegman's ride to King of Prussia, climbing about 2800'. Overall average speed should be around 14.5mph, and we'll maintain a speed of 15.5-16mph on flat terrain. Bring $ for a food stop at about the halfway point. Our pace will be somewhat less aggressive than when riding during the Summer. No one will be dropped, but please be prepared to ride at the advertised pace.     Bummed out about the cancellation of the MS-150 Seashore Bike tour? Miss the boardwalk?Then join us for a make-up ride to the Ocean City / Atlantic City seashore. The "Seashore Rides" start in Hammonton and heads into Ocean City where we'll have lunch up on the boardwalk with the salty air blowing into our faces. After lunch we'll head north and visit Longport,Margate,Ventnor then Atlantic City (mile 48) where we'll take the train back to Hammonton where there will be an optional 14 mile loop thru the blueberry farms of Hammonton. Bring $5 for the train ride and a bungie cord to tie down your bike once on the train. In addition, Linda McGrane will lead an 80 mile loop ride from Hammonton which will skirt Wharton State Forest on the return to Hammonton. We'll then have dinner at Joe Italiano's, the best Italian Restaurant in the area. Rain or bad stormy weather cancel the ride.     Level B, 13.5 mph, 35 miles. Park 'n Ride Lot across for PA visitor center (off I-80) in East Stroudsburg, PA. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. Cue sheets will be available.

    Doing the Black Bear? If so, join us Sunday morning for a not too difficult ride from East Stroudsburg, PA to Belvidere, NJ. We will stay on the PA side of the Delaware River to Belvidere, stop for a coffee break in a funky little eatery, then ride the NJ side of the Delaware back to Stroudsburg. If all goes well, we should be finished around noon. 1900' total climbing. Note: The start location is about 3/10 mile from Black Bear start location.

    Late notice but weather forecast looks great. Assemble at 7:40. We willl leave at 7:50 SHARP! Ride through East Falls, Mount Airy, Chestnut Hill, Wyndmor, Oreland, Fort Washington, Upper Dublin, etc. for coffee stop in Doylestown, then back on 202 bikeway and through Gwynyd, etc. for coffee in Manayunk. Many hills, but no killers. (It's all about the coffee.) Riders doing advertised pace (which is what our computers should read as "average" at the finish) will not be dropped. Please preregister. It saves time and improves substantially my ability to read your emergency information.

    Easy ride though Fairmont Park, cycling past many of the remaining Mansions, ending up at Strawberry Mansion for a lunch time lecture by Allen Meyers who will discuss his book Strawberry Mansion: The Jewish Community of North Philadelphia and lecture on the history of the neighborhood that took it's name from Historic Strawberry Mansion. 11am-12pm Light Lunch Reception to Follow, $20/person, pay at the door. Afterward we will cycle through the neighboorhood to experience what we just head about.

    Pretty loop from UDHS in Ft. Washington to the Wegman's food court in Montgomeryville for a sit-down lunch in their food court and warm conversation. Outbound via North Wales, return via Warrington and Maple Glen. Quick Wawa stop if needed at mile 20 in North Wales. Lunch stop at Wegman's at mile 28. On the return, there is another Wawa at mile 41, if needed. Total climbing 2175 feet. Cue sheets will be provided. We will stop to regroup as needed. No one dropped, but we will try to maintain at least 13mph average, as advertised. Thank you!

    While this is completely unofficial, and in no way endorsed by the MS Society, you can still tell your sponsors you biked over 75 miles from Cherry Hill to Ocean City. (And, we’re planning to cycle back on Sunday as well!). Two rest stops and a lunch break at mile 48 at Harbor Diner is all we have planned for support, so pack money, nourishment, tubes, etc. Wear your MS Team or VIP Jersey, and we’ll send a group shot to the Society. If staying over, you will need to pack change of clothes on a bike rack on your bike. (If you don't stay over, there are trains from Atlantic City back to Philadelphia). You can park overnight at Woodcrest as long as you contact Patco on Oct 14 or Oct 15 with the make, model and license plate of your car along with your contact info and indication that you parked in one of the free lots. You can call them at 856-772-6968 or email them at (but make sure you get a confirmation back if you email). Rain or bad stormy weather cancels the ride.Check this site at 6am on Saturday for any changes. Departure back on Sunday at 8am from the OC Music Pier at 8th and the Boardwalk.

    While this is completely unofficial, and in no way endorsed by the MS Society, you can still tell your sponsors you biked over 75 miles between Ocean City and Cherry Hill. Mostly flat to rolling, other than two hills approaching Peace Valley (one short and moderately steep, one long but not steep). Very scenic ride on mostly low-trafficked roads.     Bring yer bike and sense of adventure Today we'll ride to the Schuylkill River Trail, with a quick park rest stop on the way out, and lunch at the Outbound Station on the return. Expect great company, scenic roads and not too much in the way of hills (mostly rolling, with some nice flats on the SRT. Check day of the ride if weather is iffy (rain cancels). NOTE: Beginning in November RYBT will be listed ad hoc - we'll shoot for Tuesdays but will ride the day(s) of the week with the best weather forecast.


    Conshohocken night rides

    Level c-b+, 13-18 mph, 25 +/- miles. Meet at Jacobs Engineering Parking Lot. The ride leaves at 6:00 pm.

    Ride groups and speeds will vary depending on the availability of ride leaders. Groups will be from a C to B+ with speed averages from 13 to 18 mph. A few hills (Umbria Street being the steepest). Riders must be able to maintain the average speed for the group they ride with. ALL RIDERS MUST HAVE STRONG HEADLIGHTS AND TAIL LIGHTS AS WE WILL BE RIDING IN THE DARK. REFLECTIVE CLOTHING IS ALSO HELPFUL. Rest stop at Lloyd Hall near the Art Museum. This is only a short stop for bathrooms and a quick snack. Bring something to drink and a snack. Optional food and drinks at a local watering hole after the ride.

    This weekly ride starts in the daylight and continues for two hours after sunset. Strong headlights and taillights are required. Wear your brightest most garish clothes. If you've always wanted to experience the thrill of night riding, but wanted to avoid cold weather, this is your opportunity. Low traffic roads, beautiful scenery (while the sun shines), and extended distances ! Don't lose your conditioning just because its getting darker earlier. Cheat the darkness and join us for excellent workouts - our first ride will be over 40 hilly miles. This is a road ride. Only one speed is offered.

    October 29th: Author Series at Strawberry Mansion. Joel Spivak will discuss his recent research on the construction of the Strawberry Mansion Bridge and the Fairmount Park street car system. On our ride before the talk, we will explore the remnents still visible and rideable within the park on our way to the lecture of the Fairmount Trolley. Afterwards, we will explore to traces of the Fairmount Trolley just learned about from the talk. I am sure this that this lecture will be better organized than the last one we cycled to Strawberry Mansion for. Bring $ 10.00 for the admission fee for the talk.

    Today we'll ride to the Green Lane area for some peak fall foliage viewing on what is forecasted to be a very nice day for this time of year.     Start at Norristown Farm Park, parking lot on White Hall Road between Germantown Pike and Sterigere. This parking lot is directly across from the Norristown Area High School on Eagle Drive. Pretty route to Java's Brewin' Cafe in Limerick/Royersford. In honor of Halloween, we'll take a slight detour through the Farm Park and the campus of Norristown State Hospital to cycle past one or two spooky, "haunted" buildings. We will have flat stretches along the SRT at both the beginning and final segments of this route. On our way out to Limerick, there is an optional quick rest break if needed in Phoenixville at mile 14. Sit-down food stop at the cafe in Limerick at mile 34. We will be TREATED to LIVE MUSIC (guitarist) at the cafe during lunch. On the return, we'll be in Phoenixville again at mile 43 if another quick break is needed. Total climbing is 2,630 feet. Rolling hills, but we will stop to regroup as needed. No one dropped, but we will try to maintain 13 mph, as advertised. For HALLOWEEN: Prizes for the bicycle having the best Halloween decorations as voted by the group and best-decorated (costumed) cyclist. POST-RIDE MINI-TAILGATE PARTY: Leader will bring assorted soft drinks and snacks.

    Main Line Cycles Brisk Ride

    Great roads with low traffic. We have a few routes that bring us out around or through Ridley Creek State Park.     Convoluted Early Bird Ride to Coffee in Manayunk via Upper Dublin (ad-hoc ride)

    Level B/B-, 14.75-15.25 mph, 47 +/- miles. Meet at Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 8:30 am.

    Assemble at 8:30. We willl leave at 8:40 SHARP! Ride through East Falls, Mount Airy, Chestnut Hill, Wyndmor, Fort Washington, Upper Dublin, Oreland, Whitemarsh, Ambler, and Manayunk. Many hills, but no killers. One quick comfort stop at mile 24 or so, and long coffee stop in Manayunk at mile 40 or so. (It's all about the coffee.) Riders doing advertised pace (which is what our computers should read as "average" at the finish) will not be dropped. Partial cue sheet showing turns, but not milage. Please preregister. It saves time and improves substantially my ability to read your emergency information.


    Ride to New Hope and French Bakery

    Level C+/B-, 13.5-14.5 mph, 60-65 +/- miles. Meet at Upper Dublin High School. The ride leaves at 9:00 am.

    Delaware River Pier Parks Ride

    Level D, 10 mph, 25 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Just opened, Pier 68 Park, the third Pier Park built in the last 7 years, an amazing accomplishment by the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation! Let's go cycle there and on the way visit Pen Treaty Park, Race Street Pier Park, Washington Ave. Pier 53 Park where one of your grandparents may have come over from Europe through the Imagration Station on that pier from 1870 to 1920. Bring your fishing rod so as to fish off Pier 68 down by Walmart. We will stop for a coffee in Penns Port before returning via a city route. Since we will stop an explore these pier parks, the ride will take longer than you might expect, 1pm return, unless there is a cold wind.


    Saturday C+ ride with inaugural trip over the Manayunk Bridge and ESPN GAME DAY STOP

    The Manayunk bridge opened yesterday and ESPN Gameday is coming to Phila today. Depending on everybody's mood, we may start the ride with a slow warmup to Independence Hall and an attempt to photobomb the national TV feed. Wearing of school colors encouraged. We'll then head out to King of Prussia and stop for lunch at Wegman's. After returning through Conshohocken, we'll head across the newly opened bridge and up the Cynwyd Trail prior to returning to the Art Museum. Bring money for lunch stop at Wegman's in KofP. Climbing will be around 3000'. Overall average speed should be13.5-14.5mph, but we'll maintain a speed of 16-20 mph on flat terrain. No one doing the listed average pace will be dropped.     An incredibly scenic ride through the Oley Valley in Berks County. Thanks to Rich Wagner for this picturesque route. Featuring the crossing of two covered bridges, Three rest stops. One at your standard convenience store. One at a great little deli/restaurant in the quaint town of Oley. And even one at a chocolatier. Terrain will consist of significant climbs for the first and last 15 miles. The middle 30 is rolling to flat. This will be one of the prettiest rides you will do this year. Cue sheets will be available. Total climbing 4176 feet. We will stop to regroup as needed. DRIVING DIRECTIONS to French Creek State Park: Take the Main PA Turnpike (I-76) West to the Downingtown Exit. This is two exits beyond (west of) the Valley Forge exit. After leaving the Turnpike, take PA 100 North/Pottstown Pike for 4 miles. You will pass through the town of Eagle. Turn left onto Conestoga Rd/PA-401 West. Stay on 401 West for 6 miles, then turn right onto PA-345 North/Bulltown Rd. Follow PA-345 North for 4 miles. There will be signs on 345 for French Creek State Park, and Hopewell Lake.
