What is The Round Valley Reservoir? It's a lake on top of a little man-made mountain! We'll climb up this little mountain just before our lunch stop to see this gorgeous Round Valley outdoor recreation area. This, the first of two separate "Round Valley Reservoir" rides, is run with the hope that the temperature will be on the warmer side. The second ride, identical to the first, will be on Saturday, October 19 (no rain date). It is expected to have cooler weather but more fall foliage. Another reason we're running this ride on two separate dates is to help manage the expected large number of riders (the last time we did this ride back in 2017 we had close to 75 riders total). If you love this route ride on both the 6th and 19th and double the fun! Available Ride Paces: C+ 13-14 mph, B- 14-15 mph, B+ 16-17, Note: Ride leaders may be different for rides held on the 5th versus the 19th! Please be prepared to be able to maintain the pace of the ride of your choice, plus obey traffic laws. Ride Description: Very scenic 60 mile metric century ride thru the backroads of Hunterdon County, NJ. Much of the first 20 miles is a slow but beautiful climb of varying rollers and hills (nothing mountainous) followed by some screaming downhills. Mile 25.5 starts the climb of the day, up Allerton and Valley Crest Rds., followed by more downhills past the reservoir and then to our lunch stop - a sit-down lunch (mile 34) at the now iconic Jerry's Brooklyn Grill (affectionately known as "EATS") in Whitehouse Station, NJ. The remainder of the ride is mostly rolling hills and flat sections. If bathrooms are needed before the start of the ride use the Lambertville CVS which is just south of the Holcombe-Jimison Farmstead lot at the intersection of Main and Cherry St. Note that we are using a slightly revised route this year which will feature the 1st rest stop at mile 14 (Shell Gas Station) instead of mile 28 (now an optional 2nd stop). There is also an optional rest stop on the return at mile 53 (Speedway Gas Station). Snacks and drinks will be available at both rest stops.

The Melrose Diner is a ture icon diner. I may have only been there once. The booths were like a horseshoe, really big, could fit six/seven. So to maximize the seating, when most customers come for a table for two, there was a divider so you most likely sat with strangers on the other half of the both! I understand they have changed this. Also during election season almost every candidate MUST stop here! We will stop here after a ride through the Philadelphia Naval Yard.

Chester Creek Trail or Cobbs Creek Trail? Both. We will follow the C Spinoff route to Media, then south to the Chester Creek Trail, built on a Civil War era rail line beside the Chester Creek. Several neighborhoods and the Bicyclist’s Baltimore Pike later, we ride the Cobbs Creek Trail, Pine, Spruce, and South Streets back to Schuylkill Banks. H2O stop at mile 19, optional H2O stop at 34 or 38 miles. This ride is designed as a sight seeing tour, and much of the route is flat, but... there are a few lumpy hills. It is a definite step up from the Spinoff. The pace will be moderate with regrouping. Bring the camera.
