    Williamson Rd has been paved! So this longest version of the Thursday Hill Rides will be done again this morning but we will climb Merion Squre Rd. to get up to Youngs Ford Rd. More hills, more miles at a D pace which can get down to an average 8mph! You can achieve this, just lower your gears! Coffee at Thunder Mug afterwards.     Friday Frolic w/Linda. UDHS to WARRINGTON/JAMISON, then, farther into Peaceful BUCKS COUNTY, (depending on the weather). COVID PRECAUTIONS in EFFECT

    START TIME PUSHED BACK TO 9:45. For 10/2: Pretty meander from Upper Dublin HS in Montgomery County into Bucks County. The weather forecast for today calls for mostly cloudy skies, with a 40% chance of rain in the early AM. Quiet roads to Warrington/Jamison, and take a rest break at Mile 23 at Wawa. If the weather cooperates, we can venture farther into Bucks Co. (15-mi loop around Forest Grove & Rushland), before circling back. On the return, there is a Dunkin' Donuts at Mile 44 on the long route (55 miles) If the weather is not bike-friendly, we can cut off the extra Bucks loop, and turn around at the Wawa in Jamison.     Philly Wandrers: Trails to Corinne’s Place

    This destination ride will feature a variety of beautiful landscapes including Forbidden Drive, Hillside Cemetery (Abingdon), Pennypack Trail, crossing of the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge, Palmyra Cove Nature Park and Heritage Park Boardwalk in Pennsauken, NJ. Stop's include Abingdon Wawa at mile 19 and Corinne's Place in Camden at mile 48. Corinne’s Place will have live music and there will be a $10 cover charge for the band. NOTE: Ensure your bike has appropriate tires for the 8 miles of gravel trails we'll be traversing.     Hilly out, which is challenging but flat home! A coffee stop at the Ardmore Suburban Square, then out Darby Paoli road which becomes Church Rd toward Malvern. Down into Chester Valley with lunch at Wegmans. The Chester Valley Trail and Schuylkill River Trail is the route home. This is an all day ride.     ROUND VALLEY RESERVOIR Annual Scenic Trek - COVID PRECAUTIONS in EFFECT

    Annual meander from Lambertville to the Round Valley Reservoir, via picturesque, low-traffic roads, as the fall foliage begins to show off. Rest stop at the Shell convenience store at Mile 14. Photo Op at the reservoir at Mile 29. Lunch in Whitehouse Station at Jerry's Brooklyn Grill* at Mile 34. *Outdoor seating is available at the lunch stop, for social distancing. On the return, there's a Wawa in Neshamic Station at Mile 43, and the Carousel Deli in Ringoes is at Mile 54. Along the way, enjoy plenty of green vistas and peaceful meadows. Rolling terrain with some moderate climbs before the lunch stop. Second half of the ride is on more gentle terrain. Total climbing is 2956 ft.     PLEASE remember your mask for the (2) full service rest stops - food, drink, indoor potties. No potty at the start :( This loop is an extension of the SSC+ from a few weeks ago. On the preview ride 2 days ago, I saw 5 wild turkeys in one of the corn fields. This ride is a big "C", with a moderate pace and regrouping at hill tops and traffic signals. Bring the camera, you may get to "shoot" a turkey.


    Sunny Sunday Afternoon D Ride

    The Sunny Sunday Afternoon D Ride is designed for novice cyclist, those new to group riding or those new to Philadelphia. There will be brief instructions on bicycle safety, rules of the road, and a description of the ride destination. All you need is a bicycle helmet, a working bicycle and a face covering and adheard to the club's COVID-19 ride guidelines.     C Spin-Off to Devon Whole Foods

    Level C: 12mph, 40 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 12:15 pm.

    Barns & Noble, Plymouth Meeting Shopping Center is not exactly in the city but they now allow indoor seating, hopefully outdoor seating of some kind which they didn't last visit there. We will give them another try. Out the Schuylkill River Trail then up the Mid County Trail. Return via modified Butler Pike and Ceadar Grove Rd.     We have been cycling the Thursday Morning Hill Ride for the entire Summer. This pass September, we have upped our game by doing the longer version all the way out to Youngs Ford Rd and down Wayerly Rd to River Rd and Flat Rock Park. I calculate there are five versions of the Thursday Morning Hill Ride - Rt 23 - Mill Creek, Hallow Rd, Hagesford Rd - backwards route - Youngs Ford Rd - Merion Squre Rd! Each of these versions gets a little more challenging. So this week we will start a new, running through each version over the next five Thursdays. Start today with Rt 23 and commit yourself to doing all five versions. Challenging hills in Penn Valley at a D pace!     Picturesque route by Charlie B., from Central Park in Doylestown, to Pine Run Reservoir, Peace Valley Park in Lake Galena, and around Lake Nockamixon. Quiety roads and green vistas along the way. On the outbound, convenience store rest break at Mile 15. After Lake Nockamixon, lunch stop at Kimberton Whole Foods/Seraphina's Cafe at Mile 30. (There's also a Turkey Hill nearby.) On the return, we'll cross the Tohickon Creek. If another rest stop is needed, when we get to Plumsteadville at Mile 43-44, we can stop at either Chubby's Ice Cream and/or Wawa. SHORT-CUT OPTION: This 45-mi route overlaps the longer version until the rest stop at Lake Nockamixon. Then it heads over to Ottsville for a food stop at Brig O'Doon.     Join us for a pleasant ride from the City out to Fort Washington State Park's Hawk Watch via Chestnut Hill and a paved part of the Wissahickon Green Ribbon Trail in Montgomery County. The Hawk Watch is at mile 18.8. We will pass Erdenheim Farm and stop for a break at the Giant Supermarket in Flourtown (with a Starbucks and a large outdoor seating area) at mile 17. Hills include Midvale, Andorra Road, and a short steep hill in Fort Washington State Park. We will adjust the published route slightly based on pre-ride scouting to avoid milling and re-paving in Chestnut Hill. Return via Andorra Rd, part of River Road, and the SRT. BCP COVID 19 protocols are in effect. Helmets are required.

    Cycle to Vote - John Lewis Voter Registration Rides & Rememberance Day

    Cycle to Vote is a local movement to engage persons in the Philadelphia neighborhoods to register to vote and to request mail in ballots by cycling in these neighborhoods wearing t-shirts with that square bar code on the back or giving out pins with the same bar code info. I will lead a ride along the Northeast Amtrak Corridor, over W Sedgle Ave. But first we cycle from our meeting place to the Woodford Manson in the Strawberry Manson area of East Fairmont Park to be joined by other cyclists. Gathering information pins and a few t-shirts. At 9 am we will start the varoius neighborhood info rides.     Cycle to Vote is a local movement to engage folks in the Philadelphia neighborhoods to register to vote and to request mail in ballots. The C rider group will ride to a neighborhood in North Philadelphia in order to provide QR codes and written literature about registering to vote and obtaining and submitting mail-in ballots. First we cycle from the Azalea Garden to a rally point at the Woodford Manson in East Fairmont Park to be joined by other cyclists. After we have educated and encouraged voters in a designated neighborhood we will return to for a John Lewis Remembrance Day memorial celebration. Please register for the ride the usual way but also please go to cycletovote.com for more information and to register there as well. Face coverings will be needed for when we are nor riding. No ride if rain at the start or NOAA forecast of 50 percent or more chance of rain.

    Philly Wandrers - DE Trails

    This multi-modal adventure delivers a trio of Delaware trails including Lums Pond Little Jersey Trail, C&D Canal Trail and the Jack Markell Trail. Stops include Williamsburg Wawa (mile 17) and Saap Lao Thai Cuisine (mile 36). Gather at 30th St Station near Gate 10 in the main section. We'll head up to the Septa gates by 9:15. Septa Regional Rail - Train 211 departing 9:39 am from 30th St to Wilmington and returning on Train 228 departing 5:16 pm from Wilmington to 30th St. BCP COVID-19 guidelines will be in effect. **NOTE: Bring bike with tires suitable for the Lum's Pond trail which is a mix of dirt/grass/gravel**


    Spring Mill Saturday C - Power Line West

    [POSTPONED until next Sat., 10/17. One of BCP's long-time members has sadly passed away, and her funeral is today, 10/10. The Hopewell Furnace ride will be deferred til next week.] An incredibly scenic ride through the Oley Valley in Berks County. Thanks to Rich Wagner for this picturesque route. Featuring the crossing of two covered bridges, Three rest stops. One at your standard convenience store. One at a great little deli/restaurant in the quaint town of Oley. And even one at a chocolatier. Terrain will consist of significant climbs for the first and last 15 miles. The middle 30 is rolling to flat. This will be one of the prettiest rides you will do this year. Cue sheets will be available. Total climbing 4176 feet. We will stop to regroup as needed.     Pretty and meandering route from Upper Dublin HS into Montgomery County. If the weather cooperates, the full route (55 miles) includes an outer loop from Harleysville to Souderton. Outbound via Ambler, Blue Bell, and West Point. Bathroom/portapotty stops available at Fischer's Park (Mile 16) or Heckler Park (Mile 19). Food stop at Hennings Market in Harleysville at Mile 20. 12-mile Outer loop around Franconia and Souderton will come back to Harleysville at Mile 33. Heading back to UDHS, there is a WAWA AT Mile 38 in Skippack. SHORT-CUT OPTION (43-miles): if the weather is not bike-friendly, we can delete the outer loop, and turn around at Harleysville.     RESCHEDULED from 10/10 - An incredibly scenic ride through the Oley Valley in Berks County. Thanks to Rich Wagner for this picturesque route. Featuring the crossing of two covered bridges, Three rest stops. One at your standard convenience store. One at a great little deli/restaurant in the quaint town of Oley. And even one at a chocolatier. Terrain will consist of significant climbs for the first and last 15 miles , but this route has been adjusted, so that the beginning and ending climbs over the ridge are more gentle, less steep. The middle 30 is rolling to flat. This will be one of the prettiest rides you will do this year. Cue sheets will be available. Total climbing 3847 feet. We will stop to regroup as needed. Cross a few creeks and cycle through peaceful countryside and quaint towns. Rest stops include the coffee shop in New Oxford at Mile 13, lunch in Biglersville at Mile 33, photo stop at Sachs Covered Bridge at Mile 46, Gettysburg Battlefield Visitors Center at Mile 52, and a convenience store at Mile 64.     This tour will start at the Septa Media Regional Rail Station will go to the Lazaretto in Tinicum Township (see the description of the ride from Rob Gusky's listed ride, which is listed to start earlier today) This ride will follow the Chester Creek Trail for some of the trip (which will include photo op of some great fall scenes. We will stop at the Upland Diner for lunch with a Covid 19 protected area. Proceeding then to the Lazaretto for a lecture about the history of the building. After we leave the Lazaretto we will go back through the Cobbs Creek Parkway and follow the "Baltimore Pike" Bike Trail. We will be near the Lansdowne Train Station at about mile 30. There will be an option to take the Regional Rail back to Media.

    Pretty and scenic route around York County, leaving from the Hampton Inn in Hanover, PA, where we would usually have our annual Fall Foliage Weekend. On the way to Brown's Orchards and Farm Market in Loganville, we'll cross Lake Marburg in Codorus State Park. The blazing fall foliage will be reflected in the water. Pass through quaint towns, like Jefferson and Seven Valleys. On the return, we'll cross Lake William and Codorus Creek, and admire more quaint towns. The rest stops (Brown's Orchards, Rutter's convenience store) in Loganville are at the half-way mark. Rolling terrain with a few brisk climbs, but we can stop at the tops to admire spectacular panoramic views of the fall colors, peaceful landscapes and farms, etc. There is slightly less climbing on the return half. Total elevation gain is 2782 ft. PLAN B SHORT-CUT: If weather is not bike-friendly, we can turn off the cue sheet at Mile 18 at Landis Rd, to go th Merrymead Farm for a quick break, then, turn around at Merrymead, for a shorter route.     Let's cycle out to Valley Forge Park the old way, before there was a Schuylkill River Trail. That's over Umbria St, River Road, crossing the river at Conshohocken to River Rd on that side. A coffee stop in Bridgeport before climbing the hill to Rt 23 and through the King of Prussia neighborhood. Entering the Park above the visitor center for the park. Once around the Valley Forge Park trail clock wise with a packed lunch at the Carrollon, General Washington Chaple. Return via the SRT. Return atfer 3pm, all day ride!     Spring Mill Saturday C Upper Merion Trail 9:30 AM Start

    Level C: 11.5-12mph, 29 miles. Meet at Spring Mill SEPTA lot beside Riverbend Cycles. The ride leaves at 9:30 am. Cue sheets will not be available.

    2 miles of the Upper Merion Trail (officially called the Schuylkill Trail West). We will see a small part of the future Chester Valley Trail extension to Norristown, and part of the finished CVT after riding through Valley Forge National Park. PLEASE remember your mask!     Another 5-Star, scenic route by Charlie B. in Lancaster County, to enjoy as much fall foliage as we can! Route includes a covered bridge, an organic farm with camels, and plenty of picturesques roads, including Creek Rd along the Octoraro Creek. Rolling terrain with a few brisk climbs in the first half, but the second half is more gentle. Food options include Sunrise Grocery (Amish store) at Mile 16, Sadie's Bake Shop at Mile 22, in the "middle of nowhere", a Sheetz convenience store at Mile 39, and the Lapp Valley Farm & Creamery for ice cream at Mile 51. Total elevation gain is 3119 ft.     G.R.I.T. Ride to Pennington

    Grind the gravel to Pennington on the Delaware & Raritan Canal Towpaths. Bring a snack for short rest stop at Mercer Meadows on the LHT. Route will cover 20 road miles and 20 gravel road and trail miles. Bring your 29er, CX, Gravel or equip your road bike with wider tires as we mashup rides across various asphalt, gravel and sometimes dirt terrains. Expect a good challenge as we grind gravel trails and hit a few climbs with great company for no other purpose than to have fun and put in a few unpaved miles. There will be mud.
