    Warm Up the Winter with Hot Coffee, Hot Soup - FLAT SOUTH JERSEY LOOP - COVID PRECAUTIONS in Effect.

    FOR 3/6: Flat, but pretty, loop in South Jersey, from Marlton to Hammonton for coffee and lunch at the popular Casciano's Coffee Bar & Sweetery at Mile 27. In addition to Casciano's, there are several other cafes/markets on the same avenue, as well as a Wawa in downtown Hammonton. Along the way, we'll pass several peaceful lakes and the Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge. Terrain is flat - 945 ft total climbing.     Pretty hiking route, exploring some peaceful, but less familiar, trails in Carpenter's Woods, as well as entering the Wissahickon Valley via the quiet North Mt. Pleasant Place trailhead. We'll be on the White, Yellow, and Orange trails in the Wissahickon, with a little bit of Forbidden Drive. Landmarks along the way include Toleration Statue, Fingerspan Bridge, and Rock Climbers Rock. SHORT-CUT OPTION would be to take Forbidden Drive (vs. the Yellow Trail) on the second half of the hike. Total climbing 845 ft.     We will cycle up the trail to Fountain Green, then through the park to Ridge Ave., Hunting Park Ave., over Henry, to Roberts, and Fox. Then over Fox to West Coulter. After riding up the hill on Fox we should be loose and limber so we'll stop in McMichael Park for a wheelie contest - winner gets a coffee and slice of cake. After the excitement we'll continue through the neighborhood over to Schoolhouse Ln., back onto Henry Ave., Walnut Ln., Park Line, Hortter, Wissahickon, Sedgewick, Sherman, Mt. Pleasant, McCallum and finally on to West Allens Lane to our destination. Back home the usual way.     Delran, NJ, along the Rancocas Creek, I know this area very well, graduated from Holy Cross High in Riverside NJ along Rt 130. I noticed the Delran Coffee Shop where you can get more than coffee while looking up the Pie Lady Cafe in Moorestown, NJ. So let's try it! Over the Ben Franklin Bridge and returning by walking over the Tacony Palmyra Bridge on the way back to Philadelphia.     FOR 3/13: Fantastic weather forecast for Saturday - sunshine and high temps ~49*. Pretty meander from Core Creek Park/Lake Luxembourg in Bucks County, to Yardley, then north on River Rd to Washington Crossing. Meander through Titusville, Hopewell, and Pennington, NJ, for coffee & lunch at Emily's Cafe. Please bring SNACKS with you. On the outbound, there is a Dunkin' Donuts at Mile 11, and bathrooms at Mile 12 on the NJ side of Washington Crossing. At Mile 33, we'll take the trail around peaceful Rosedale Park. Bathrooms are open in Rosedale. Coffee/lunch stop at Emily's Cafe in Pennington is at Mile 36. The return trip is shorter and flatter. Total elevation is 2351 ft, but most of the climbing is in the first half. START/FINISH POINT AT CORE CREEK PARK: Parking lot for the Bucks County Dog Park at Tollgate Rd & Park Rd.     Pretty hike along both sides of the Wissahickon Creek using the orange and yellow trails and Forbidden Dr. while passing by the Monastery Stables. Meet at Walnut Lane Golf Course (800 Walnut Ln, Philadelphia, PA 19128) and then cross the golf course fairways to the yellow trail and then onto Forbidden Dr. to the other side of the Wissahickon. Well-behaved canine hikers on leashes are welcome to join us. Be prepared for icy conditions if temps are below freezing. COVID PRECAUTIONS in Effect: Please maintain the 3 W's: Wear a Mask, Watch Your Distance (at least 6ft from others at all times), and Wash Your Hands (or sanitize with Purell).     Sunny Sunday D Ride

    Level D: 9-12mph, 12-24 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 12:00 pm.

    OWLS (Older, Wiser, Longer, Slower) paced ride through Fairmount Park and beyond. New to group riding or resuming biking again, this ride is aimed at developing riding skills in a group and some physical conditioning. There might be a hill or two, but we will allow rebreathing time before we start again. PLease bring helmet and face mask (required by club's Covid 19 mitigation rules), extra tube, proper dress for weather, water, and $ for mid-ride snack stop. As an extra bonus, we will spend time shooting a video of the demonstration of essential bike skills, which will be used instruction in videos for the bike club, followed by free coffee and donuts.

    Tentative route: Lower Swedish Cabin. 7 day forecast looks like it may be damp :( If the temps and spotty shower on Friday wash away ALL of the leftover snow that I can see, we will try it. It is kind of down in the woods beside Darby Creek in the shade. The cabin was built around 1640 by Swedish settlers in the Delaware Valley. This is a true C ride that cheerfully waits to regroup. 26 miles with a GIANT Food Market stop at mile 13.

No ride if it's raining hard. 2185 total ft climbing. Scenic loop, thru Mont.Co. or Lower Bucks, brief rest stop. I will meet at to Dunkn Donuts shop in 30th Street Amtrak Station, 8:35 am to take the 8:52 am Manayunk/Norristown suburban line to Norristown and cycle the 10 miles to the start of the Leprechaun Ride. Come join me. We will then cycle the 31 miles of Steve's ride and after a mid-afternoon lunch, cycle back to the Norristown Train Station, 10 miles or aĺl the way back to Philly, 31 miles depending on how we feel and daylight available! This is how you use multi modes of transportation to travel. It takes time, it takes planning! Living in Philadelphia and don't need a car or leave the car at home, this is the bicycle way to travel.
