    Friday Tandem Ride

    Weekly tandem ride with singles welcome. Scenic route on quiet roads in western Chester County. Chester County does have hills - total climb on this route is 2200 ft. The scenery is worth the climb! No drops! Bring water and snacks for rest stops along the way as needed. Optional lunch at Northbrook Market after the ride - good food and apple cider donuts! The start location is Northbrook Market - Please park behind the store.


    Friday Frolic w/Linda. Hunterdon County Special Edition - Round Valley Reservoir Research

    For 10/1: Enjoy the splendid, sunny weather forecast with a "research" ride to explore the scenic route planned for the annual Round Valley Reservoir club ride scheduled for next Saturday, Oct. 9. This year's route needed some adjustments, due to some roads sustaining storm damage. Convenience store rest stop on the way to the reservoir and lunch at Whitehouse Station. Meet in the gravel parking lot behind the Holcombe-Jimison Farmstead, just off NJ-29, orth of the CVS. Dress in layers - the afternoon temperature will reach a high of 69*, but it'll be cooler in the morning. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Enjoy scenic adventures by bike on most Fridays, throughout the year. Explore pretty, peaceful roads in suburban counties -- Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, etc. Starting points will vary, so that we can cycle through different regions. Please check daily calendar for details of each Friday's route -- terrain, mileage, rest stops, etc. Cue sheets and on-line route map provided for each ride. If weather conditions are not conducive to cycling, this ride may be replaced by a hike/walk. As long as we are enjoying outdoor exercise, and Mother Nature, in the company of friends, we'll have a memorable outing.

    Early Bird Ride to Coffee in Devon (ad-hoc ride)

    Level B-: 14.5-15mph, 50 +/- miles. Meet at Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 8:00 am. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Assemble at 8:00. Depart at 8:05 SHARP! Ride through West Fairmount Park, Bala Cynwyd. Merion, Havertown, Haverford, Bryn Mawr, Devon, Wayne, Conshohocken, Manayunk, etc. At mile 26 or so 35-minute coffee stop at Pour Richards or Starbucks (it's all about the coffee). Many hills, including 10 or so relatively long ones, but no killers. Will regroup if necessary, but riders are expected to maintain the group pace.


    Tyler State Park - Newtown, PA

    Level D: 10mph, 60 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Tyler State Park was one of many PA State Parks established in the 1960's to be close to urban environs. This is north of Philadelphia in Bucks County. We will take a northernly route out an a more southeastern route with one loop around the hilly park! This will be a D pace, C terrain, B distance and of course an all day ride.     Kennett Square

    Level B: 15-15.5mph, 80 to 85 miles. Meet at 9am @ 24th Walnut Street or 9:20am @ 46th - 56th Springfield Ave . The ride leaves at 9:00 am.

    Bike ride to Kennett Square aka Mushroom Capital of the world. Will stop for Tacos (Michoacana Grill - has outdoor seating) midway for the return trip. The route begins and ends along Springfeild Ave in West Philly. For residents in this location participating in this ride, you have the option to wait for us to pick you up starting from 46th through 56th. Just give me a heads-up via the comments sections (or email) if you do. Will provide the route here for download once I'm finished modifying the existing route.


    Toss of the Dice 2.0 - 9:15 AM Start - Springhouse

    Ride Yer Bike Tuesday (Riding for Biscottis)

    Levels A-/B+: 16-17mph, B-: 13.5-14.5mph, C+: 12-13mph, 35-50 miles. Meet at Mondauk Park. The ride leaves at 10:00 am. Cue sheets will not be available. The on-line route map is Riding for Biscottis.

    Bring yer bike & sense of adventure. Sometimes we'll ride familiar routes, sometimes new ones. Today we'll be riding for biscottis. Park rest stop on the way out at mile 13+ (porta-potties, no water), biscotti stop at mile 22 (Bucks County Biscotti Co. - self serve stand/bring $5 for a bag of biscottis), and park lunch stop (bring sandwiches/snacks) on the return at mile 31 (bathrooms and water). Expect good company on safe/low trafficked roads and mostly flat to rolling terrain (the biggest hill is Skunk Hollow, which isn't steep, just gradual). Will regroup as needed, but must be able to maintain the posted pace. Must be willing to ride safely, obey traffic laws. Cue sheets will not be available. Check day of the ride if weather is iffy - rain cancels, but will likely reschedule for Wed.     Before it gets too cold to eat outdoors let's extend our traditional hill ride up Williamson to Old Gulph Road and an exhilarating downhill to Matson Ford Road, which we will take into Conshohocken and the Great American Pub.     TODAY'S RIDE: Pretty loop from Prophecy Creek Park in Broad Axe/Blue Bell, to Dublin, Bucks County for lunch. Choice of places to eat at the mid-way point in Dublin - the Dam Good Cafe, pizzeria, IGA Market, etc. Dam Good Cafe is open for outdoor dining and take out. IGA Market would be a quicker food stop (and, outdoors). Terrain is mostly rolling. Most of the climbing is in the middle portion, but no severe climbs. Total elevation gain 2151 ft. On the return, if another water stop is needed, there is a shopping center at Mile 36, and a Wawa in North Wales at mile 41. Along the way, we'll ride through Gwynedd, Lansdale, Line Lexington, Colmar, and Blue Bell. Start/Finish at Prophecy Creek Park has a porta-potty.     Philly Wandrers - Pine Barrens

    Explore the Pine Barrens on a multi-modal adventure with the Philly Wandrers! The highlight will be exploring the Franklin-Parker Preserve which features a beautiful Pine Barrens trail through old cranberry bogs and blueberry fields. Stops will include River Road Clamhouse, the Shamong Diner and the Medford Wawa. Meet at 30th St Station to board NJT Train 4669 departing at 8:20 am for Atlantic City. We will exit the train at the Egg Harbor City Station. Return will be via Patco from Lindenwold. NOTE: In the Franklin-Parker Preserve we will leave the pavement and ride 3.5 miles of sand road. It is highly recommended that wider tires (at least 700 x 30) be used.


    Pennypack Trail

    Level D: 10mph, 45 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Has the Pennypack Trail gotten any longer? Let's find out for real! We will cycle up parts of the Delaware River Trail to Pennypack Park. Then take the Pennypack Park Trail from Torresdale Ave to the top at Pine Rd. Continuing onto the Pennypack Trail at Lorimer Park, going as far as this trail will go! We will back track our route on the Pennypack Trail into Philly at Fox Chase. From there, city streets back to the start. Pennypack Park can be challenging because the trail is curvey with short steep inclines. The Pennypack Trail is a rail trail so it is steady incline and steady declines return.     ***** Rain Date will be October 10th **** This will be a "C" paced ride at 12-13mph average speed. Round Valley Reservoir here we come! Reminds me of the Scottish Highlands smack in the middle of Jersey. The mist is on the meadow but there are no distilleries. So pack your wee dram in a flask. Hilly, green 62 miler with many scenic rewards. 10 AM start gives us more time to drive to Lambertville and a warmer day. 2 Lunch options in Whitehouse Station at the 36 mile mark, with rest stops at 14, 28, and 44 miles. We will be meeting at the D&R canal trailhead parking lot behind the Holcombe-Jimison Farmstead on River Road off N. Main Street. Porta-Potty may be available, but best to stop before arriving. We are not aggressive, but we don't piddle either. We have ridden the revised route, and have been able to avoid residual road and bridge damage due to Ida. Bring your tam o'shanter and tighten your chin strap.

    This is a C+/B- (~13.5 - 14.2) group following the same route as the "C" group led by Scott and Mike. Very pretty and scenic meander through Hunterdon County. Due to last month's storm damage, the route we've followed in recent years needed some adjustments. Thanks to Scott Siegfried for researching some alternative roads and creating an adjusted route that's pretty and peaceful, with quaint towns and a picturesque crossing of the Raritan River. On our way to the reservoir and to lunch in Whitehouse Station, we have a convenience store rest stop at Mile 14. Scenery break at the reservoir at Mile 28. Heading into Whitehouse Station for lunch, there is a park with bathrooms at Mile 34. Lunch at Jerry's Brooklyn Grille at Mile 35. On the return, there is a Wawa at Mile 43. Total elevation gain is 3493 ft, with most of the climbing in the first half. Start/Finish is the gravel parking lot behind the Holcombe Jimison Farmstead. PLEASE NOTE: This speed group is scheduled for Saturday only, due to the Central Bucks Covered Bridges ride on Sunday.

    Last week we did the longest of the hill rides. This week, we will do the shortest of the hill rides, going down past Mill Creek Park and climbing the one-mile hill up Conshohocken State Road (with an option of avoiding the hill and meeting the rest of the group at the top). From there we descend to West Laurel Hill Cemetary via the Cynwyd Trail and go on to lunch at The Landing Kitchen, and a flat ride home. In case of inclement weather, I will cancel the ride by 9 AM. Follow the pirateā€™s treasure map (aka cue sheet) to find the "Hidden Treasure" of Chubby's Dairy Barn, recently discovered by a pirate who hijacked a birthday ride to this clandestine ice cream paradise concealed in a hidden cove in downtown Plumsteadville. Then return via another treasure, called Taboraā€™s, and sail by scenic Lake Galena. This loop has 2749 ft of climbing. Convenience store if needed for quick break at Mile 7 in Warrington. Chubby's Ice Cream (and Wawa) in Plumsteadville at Mile 30. Tabora's in Chalfont at Mile 36. This route also passes several parks with restrooms and/or porta-potties available.

    We will cycle out to AIM Academy for the grand opening of Sam's Place, a state of the art bicycle repair facility, club house to AIM 's mountain bike club. A full learning facility through cycling, exemplary reflection of how Sam Ozer became captain of the Mt bike club at AIM and an outstanding young man. Sam's short life will live through Sam's Place. Come celebrate his life through the bicycle. We will take longer ride out to Tricycles for coffee and pass some time before going back to AIM Academy for the opening. This will be rain or shine.

    Join us as we ride to the grand opening of Sam's Place at AIM Academy. Sam was a 17 year old High School student who found joy in cycling. His life was tragically cut short when he was hit and killed by a car while cycling. The bike shop has been built in his memory. This multi-modal adventure will begin with Septa Regional Rail Train 515 departing 8:49 am from 30th St to Malvern (Paoli/Thorndale Line) - meet up at the track. Refueling stops include Malvern Buttery, Buddy's Water Ice and The Landing Kitchen. Expect to return to Philly by 5 pm.

    An incredibly scenic ride through the Oley Valley in Berks County. Thanks to Rich Wagner for the original version of this picturesque route, and thanks to Charlie B. to updating the route. Featuring the crossing of two covered bridges, Three rest stops. One at your standard convenience store. One at a great little deli/restaurant in the quaint town of Oley. And even one at a chocolatier. Terrain will consist of significant climbs for the first and last 15 miles , but this route has been adjusted, so that the beginning and ending climbs over the ridge are more gentle, less steep. The middle 30 is rolling to flat. This will be one of the prettiest rides you will do this year. Cue sheets will be available. Total climbing 3847 feet. We will stop to regroup as needed. DRIVING DIRECTIONS to French Creek State Park: Take the Main PA Turnpike (I-76) West to the Downingtown Exit. This is two exits beyond (west of) the Valley Forge exit. After leaving the Turnpike, take PA 100 North/Pottstown Pike for 4 miles. You will pass through the town of Eagle. Turn left onto Conestoga Rd/PA-401 West. Stay on 401 West for 6 miles, then turn right onto PA-345 North/Bulltown Rd. Follow PA-345 North for 4 miles. There will be signs on 345 for French Creek State Park, and Hopewell Lake.

It is beyond Bartram's Garden, south along the west bank of the Schuylkill River and a continuation of the Bartram's Mile. Let's unofficially open this new section of the Schuylkill Banks. We will inspect the progress of the Swing Bridge from the east side of the Schuylkill River to the west side, down in Gay's Ferry.     Five NYC Bridge Ride

    Five NYC Bridge Ride - The Brooklyn Bridge, The Manhattan Bridge, the Koch Bridge (Queensborogh Bridge), The Robert F Kennedy Bridge ( Triborogh Bridge) and the Ward's Island Pedestrian Bridge! Wow! We will take the 8:44 am SEPTA tain to Trenton to catch the 9:56am NJTRANSIT train to NYC arriving at Pennsylvania Station by 11:16am. We will cycle up 6th Ave, through Central Park to 102nd St and over the Ward's Island Pedestrian Bridge. Going south, zigzaging over the afore mentioned bridges with the final crossing of the East River on the newly opened bicycle lane on the road of the Brooklyn Bridge. If we can make it back to Pennsylvania Station by the 3:30 pm departure of the NJTRANSIT train bound for Trenton, we will take it. If not we explore Manhattan until the 7:09pm train. That means getting back to Philly by 7 or 10 pm. All day time commitment to a realitively short distance ride but very exciting ride!     Tandem ride with singles welcome starting at Historic Batsto Village, NJ a preserved company town, originally an iron works during colonial days. Later a glass works, then an agricultural center owned by Joseph Wharton (of Wharton School fame). Many years after his death the State purchased the property to preserve it as an historic site. The ride passes through miles of pinelands and has several views of the Mullica River. The mid-point stop for snack and restroom break will be at Historic Smithville, a re-created village with shops and restaurants. Bring a picnic lunch if desired to enjoy after the ride back at Batsto SP. The Park Visitor Center includes a Museum with exhibits on the history of Batsto and about the Pinelands in general.

    The bottom of Mill Creek Road at Flat Rock Park is blocked by what appears to be a 4-foot high beaver dam. And the bridge is being repaired on the hill leading up to the Ardmore Farmer's Market. So, we are somewhat limited in our routes. I will alternate this easier ride with a variety of more difficult rides. This week, we'll descend to Mill Creek Park and climb back up Conshohocken State Road for lunch at the Landing Kitchen. If there is inclement weather I will cancel the ride by 9 AM. If the ride is not canceled it's going.

    For 10/29: Pretty and scenic meander through Montgomery County to Java's Brewin' cafe in Limerick/Royersford, then, return by ~1:00-ish. Short-cut option available on the return. Rain is not predicted to move into the area until 2:00pm. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Enjoy scenic adventures by bike on most Fridays, throughout the year. Explore pretty, peaceful roads in suburban counties -- Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, etc. Starting points will vary, so that we can cycle through different regions. Please check daily calendar for details of each Friday's route -- terrain, mileage, rest stops, etc. Cue sheets and on-line route map provided for each ride. If weather conditions are not conducive to cycling, this ride may be replaced by a hike/walk, or snow activity. As long as we are enjoying outdoor exercise, and Mother Nature, in the company of friends, we'll have a memorable outing.

Pretty loop from Springside Chestnut Hill Academy (the location of the Fall Open House Party later today) to the Wawa in Gwynedd, near the 202 Parkway Trail. Outbound via Oreland, Ft. Washington, and Prospectville. Return via Blue Bell, Flourtown, and Wyndmoor. The quick Wawa stop at Gwynedd is at mile 21. Rolling terrain, but no killer climbs. Total elevation gain 1922 ft. Plan is to return by 12:00-12:15pm, in order to set-up for the FALL OPEN HOUSE PARTY at 1:00pm. START/FINISH: Parking lot of the NEW Cherokee Dining Hall at SPRINGSIDE CHESTNUT HILL ACADEMY at 8000 Cherokee Street. There is a large, off-street parking lot in front of the building.     OWLS (Older, Wiser, Longer, Slower) paced ride through Fairmount Park and beyond for any age or those new to biking. This ride will have a longer distance and maybe some hills that are considered a ā€œCā€ category. We will try to explore some fall foliage scenes in the Philadelphia Metropolitan Area. Helmet & masks required (rules of the club) and local regulations. Please bring proper dress for the weather, extra tube, water, sunscreen, and $ for mid ride snack. We will have an ugly helmet hair contest in honor of the day before Halloween at our rest stop. The winner will get a free cup of water and extra recognition from those gathered.

    According the Weatherbug, the hourly weather forecast for Saturday is partly cloudy. Another 5-Star, scenic route by Charlie B. in Lancaster County, to enjoy as much fall foliage as we can! Route includes a covered bridge, an organic farm with camels, and plenty of picturesques roads, including Creek Rd along the Octoraro Creek. Rolling terrain with a few brisk climbs in the first half, but the second half is more gentle. Food options include Sunrise Grocery (Amish store) at Mile 16, Sadie's Bake Shop at Mile 22, in the "middle of nowhere", a Sheetz convenience store at Mile 39, and the Lapp Valley Farm & Creamery for ice cream at Mile 51. Total elevation gain is 3119 ft. COVID PRECAUTIONS in Effect: Please bring a mask and hand sanitizer, and maintain safe social distancing (20 ft apart while cycling, at least 6 ft apart when stopped).
