Occasionally, ad-hoc rides are announced. These rides are sent by email to all members of the BCP email list. To join this list, click here.     Ride to the Mummers' Parade

    Level D: 9-12mph, 14-28 miles. Meet at Septa Regional Conshohocken Train Station. The ride leaves at 11:00 am.

    Causual ride to see some of the Mummers' Parade. A There will be an option to return by train from Suburban Station. A large portion of the ride will be on the Schuylkill River Trail. Some of the ride will be over the hill because the Tow path is closed. Please bring helmet (required by the club.) Please bring tube and tools to fix a flat, water, proper dress for the weather, good lights if you are riding your bike back to Conshohocken, and $ or senior pass for a return on the train at 4:09 or 5:09. (How is that for a compound sentence?) After viewing the Mummers' Parade we will go to the Cosmic Cafe's Foundation Open House, which is free, but they are asking for tax free donations to their foundation. The Foundation helps support individuals that need special training to be able to find meaningful employment. Please let me know by email by 9AM if you will be taking the train from center city to Conshohocken.

    Winter Afternoon Friday Frolic w/Linda. Mt. Airy to Bridgeport via SRT for Coffee at 4th St. Cafe. (This ride will leave right after the SCU Hike finishes.)

    For January 5: Shorter & flatter route, due to cold temperature. SCU is hosting a hike this morning led by Linda Mueller, so this ride will leave at 1:00pm, meeting at the finish point of the hike. This mostly flat, mostly easy bike route will take us from Mt. Airy to Bridgeport, across the Schuylkill River from Norristown, for a quick rest break for coffee at the 4th St. Cafe at the halfway point. Total climbing is 1611 ft. START/FINISH: The dead-end of Mt. Airy Ave, near the intersection with Mt. Airy Terrace. This is where the Wissahickon trailhead is located. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Enjoy scenic adventures by bike on most Fridays, throughout the year. Explore pretty, peaceful roads in suburban counties -- Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, etc. Starting points will vary, so that we can cycle through different regions. Please check daily calendar for details of each Friday's route -- terrain, mileage, rest stops, etc. Cue sheets and on-line route map provided for each ride. If weather conditions are not conducive to cycling, this ride may be replaced by a hike/walk.     Early Bird Ride to Coffee in Bala Cynwyd (ad-hoc ride)

    Level C+: 13.5mph, 42 +/- miles. Meet at Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 8:55 am. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Assemble at 8:55. Depart at 9:00 SHARP! Start with typical ride toward Devon, riding through West Fairmount Park, Wynnwood, Kerakung, Havertown, Haverford, and Bryn Mawr, but then continuing on Ithan Avenue through Villanova, and getting to Bala Starbucks via Williamson Road and climb up McClenaghan Mill Road. At mile 26 or so, 35 minute coffee stop at Starbucks (it's all about the coffee), then down and up the Bala Cynwyd Heritage Trail and finishing with East Fairmount Park Loops. Approx. 2,200 feet of climbing. Will regroup if necesary, but riders are expected to maintain the group pace.

    Easy, flat, out & back ride from the Barnes & Noble bookstore/cafe in the MetroPlex shopping center on Chemical Rd in Conshohocken/Plymouth Meeting, to the Barnes & Noble in Devon, via the Cross County Trail > Schuylkill River Trail > Chester Valley Trail. Quick rest stop for coffee & restroom at the Devon Barnes & Noble, at the half-way point. Return to Conshy/Plymouth Mtg via the same aved trails. Total elevation gain is a very slight 850 ft. Plan to return by 11:15-11:30am, before the wintry weather moves in.

    Even though there is no morning hike today due to morning rain, the rain is predicted to clear out by ~12noon. This afternoon bike route is mostly flat and easy, mainly on the Cross County Trail to the Schuylkill River Trail > Chester Valley Trail toward Devon/Valley Forge and Malvern. This route can be shortened a bit, if we skip the neighborhood roads in Valley Forge, and just stay on the trails the whole time. Quick rest break at Wegman's Food Court in Malvern for restrooms and quick snack/coffee. START/FINISH: Barnes & Noble in the Metroplex Shopping Center on Chemical Rd, between Germantown and Ridge Pikes, next to the Cross-County Trail. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Scenic loop, thru Mont.Co. or Lower Bucks, brief rest stop. MEETING POINTS WILL VARY, based on the various Start/Finish points of the morning hike somewhere in the Wissahickon. Return by 5:00pm. Distance will be determined by sunset time. Please bring LIGHTS. Details posted each week. Then we will explore the neighborhood close to the Delaware River where Delaware Ave will be extended up to the Frankford Arsenal which will blaze the way for the next section of the Delaware River Trail.     For JAN. 12 - pretty and scenic route, based on a route by Charlie B. Route includes the Zacharias Creek Trail and the Skippack Trail. Lunch/snack stop in Skippack at Wawa. We will be passing parks with restrooms or porta-potties on both the outbound and return, in case riders need a potty stop. We will be crossing a couple of pretty and peaceful creeks. Return by 2:30pm. According to the hourly weather forecast for Friday, weather stays dry into the afternoon.     Carpe Diem - sieze the day - take advantage of mild temperatures. This pretty route is based on/adapted from a route by Dmitri Levin (Thanks, Dmitri!) We will meander from the historic Wycombe Train Station to Wrightstown and Washington Crossing, then cross the Delaware River to Mercer County, NJ. Cycle east to charming Princeton, for coffee/lunch/snack at D'Angelo Italian Market/Cafe/Deli. On the return, we will cross peaceful Stony Brook. Lunch at D'Angelo Market is at Mile 23. Return via Pennington to Washington Crossing. If extra rest breaks are needed, at Mile 9 and Mile 39, we'll be in Washington Crossing, where we can stop at either Dunkin' Donuts or the convenience store.     This multi-modal adventure will highlight one of the lesser know but fascinating events in Philly's history. On 9 January 1793, Jean-Pierre Blanchard conducted the first balloon flight in the Americas. He launched his balloon from the prison yard of Walnut Street Jail in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and landed in Deptford, Gloucester County, New Jersey. One of the flight's witnesses that day was President George Washington, and the future presidents John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and James Monroe were also present. Learn about this exciting moment in history as we retrace M. Blanchard's route from the exact take-off spot in Philadelphia to the landing spot in Deptford, NJ. A lunch stop will be the most popular spot as selected from the Philly Wandrer's FB poll. Return will be via Patco's Haddonfield station.


    Simple Saturday C Ride: Spring Mill to Phoenixville

    Level C: 13-14mph, 32 miles. Meet at SEPTA Spring Mill Station Parking Lot Off of E. Hector St. in Conshohocken. The ride leaves at 10:00 am. The on-line route map is SRT Ride: Spring Mill to Phoenixville.

    A simple ride to Phoenixville for fitness, food, and friendship. ...along the SRT, mostly flat. Ride out, have a light bite and coffee at Soltane Cafe, then return. Folks from the City could ride out to join us. NOTE: As of 4 pm Fri. Jan. 12, a roughly 2-mile portion of the SRT is closed between Oaks and Phoenixville due to water and mud on the trail from recent floods. We will bypass on the roads, with the overall distance of the ride unchanged, and the ride is still mostly flat. The route file will be updated this evening.

    Hike Moderate Pace on Moderate Trails, 5.7 miles. Meet at North Mount Pleasant Trailhead. The hike leaves at 9:30 am. The on-line route map is https://ridewithgps.com/routes/41592177.

    Pretty hike, leaving from the North Mount Pleasant trailhead, one block away from Wissahickon Ave. We take the White trail to Valley Green, with McCallum St. Bridge and Gatehouse Lane detour, back on Yellow trail and Forbidden Drive. On the second half, a short-cut option is available, by staying on Forbidden Drive instead of taking the Yellow Trail. PUBLIC TRANSIT: Carpenter Regional Rail Station (Chestnut Hill West Line) is one mile from the hike. Septa's H bus runs along McCallum St and stops at McCallum & North Mount Pleasant Rd, half a mile from the meeting point.


    Sunny Sunday D Ride

    Level D: 9-12mph, 12-24 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 12:00 pm.

Please bring extra tube and tools to fix a flat, water, proper dress for cold weather, $ for mid ride snack, something for chapped lips, and a happy smile. There might be a hill or two, which helps with physical conditioning, but we will catch our breaths at the top of the hills. Questions about bike safety will be answered.

    FOR JAN. 14, due to cold temperatures, this will be a quick and easy ride from Chestnut Hill to Ambler, for something hot and soothing at the Weaver's Way Co-Op market/cafe. Hot coffee/food stop at Weaver's Way is at the half-way mark. Food court has hot soup and other quick dishes. Total climbing 1289 ft. Outbound via Flourtown and Ft. Washington, return via North Hills and Wyndmoor. START/FINISH: Parking lot of Springside Chestnut Hill Academy, 8000 Cherokee St, Philadelphia, PA 19118. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Scenic loop, thru Mont.Co. or Lower Bucks, brief rest stop. MEETING POINTS WILL VARY, based on the various Start/Finish points of the morning hike somewhere in the Wissahickon.     The weatherman says snow outside, but I am not sure I trust the weatherman, so let's see if we can get to Narberth. For the return, am inclined to go behind the Mann music center but I have been known to change my mind. Goal is to be back by 12:30 so stop at G.E.T will be limited in length.     WinTour or Winter Tour, however you want to name it, goes from Philadelphia to Harrisburg over three three cycling days and if you want one museum day. Bundle up for the ride on the SRT and Chester Valley Trail, then back roads to Stottsville Inn. Saturday to Quarryville to pick up the Low Grade Enola Rail Trail to the Inn at Bully's in Columbia, PA. Sunday we explore the trails and roads beside the Susquehanna River all the way to Harrisburg, our state capital. A few of us will stay the night inorder to take in the National Civil War Museum. AMTRAK train will take us home to Philadelphia from there. Those who want to get home on Sunday will catch the many departures that evening of the train Philly. The costs will be about $ 300 per double occupancy room, 2 nights with additional $100 if you stay Sunday night. $32 +$20 for the bike. There is a 24 hour cancelation policy incase of snow.     Beautiful route to Pizza box in ambler. Once we get back to town, we will stop at either cosmic Café or Bar Hygge for a post ride beer while sitting outside because it’s going to be almost 50° out. You must bring your own tools to fix your own flats. Tubeless riders should also bring tubes so we don’t have to wait more than 10 minutes for the flat to be fixed.
