An introduction to Bikepacking, one night bike camping trips to get you on the cycling road to experience if you would enjoy cycling, ultimately across country. All you need for these one night adventures is a working bicycle with a luggage rack on the back of your bike, a sleeping bag, sleeping pad, a tent, a set of rear panniers (you could get away with a sturdy trash bag and bungee cords) for equipment. You may be able to borrow this equipment from club members so you can try it before you buy it. A change of cycling clothes, cool weather apparel, rain gear, and a Jacket. A spirit of resiliency comes in handy too. This third tour I will try something new. It will be two nights at French Creek PA State Park. Out the Schuylkill River Trail past Pottstown, then up a challenging switch back bike tail almost to the park. You can do it! A day of country cycling in Berks County the second day and return down to St Peters Village for a second breakfast and onto Phoenixville, PA via Pughtown Rd. Bastille Day Tubing on the Delaware (ad-hoc ride) POSTPONED TIL RIVER DROPS

Level D: 11mph, 33 miles. Meet at 30th Street Station. The ride leaves at 7:45 am. Cue sheets will not be available.
    Leader: Eve Gentieu, , 516-902-7921

River is 6 feet over normal levels and not recommended for tubing. Will reschedule when conditions improve. Heading up to Bucks County River Country in Point Pleasant, PA https://www.rivercountry.net/ , weather permitting. Meeting at 30th St Station 7:45 am near Dunkin Donuts for 8:04 train to Doylestown. 13 miles to tubing place, arriving around 11 am. After tubing, riding down to Yardley, 20 miles, with a stop in New Hope/Lambertville. I am planning on 11- 4 at the tubing place, to allow for check-in, shuttle bus, changing clothes, etc. Anticipate catching the 6:53 pm train from Yardley, but trains run every hour, so will adjust as needed. This will be an all day expedition, but if want only to go tubing, meet us in Point Pleasant, but please notify me so I can contact you if our plans change. Book your tubing ticket for 11:30. You must buy tubing tickets online ahead of time. I would wait until the night before or morning of, although I was assured we could apply tickets for a later date. You will see that they offer 2 and 3 hour tubing trips, but you choose which you want when you get there. As of today, the river is 5 feet above normal, so the current is running fast, which shaves the time down about 25%. Please see their website if you are considering going - the Policies and Tips page in particular. The most important thing is you need to wear old sneakers or water shoes, because of the rocky river bottom, and bring a change of clothes. They have changing rooms there, but no showers. Price for a tube is $28, although I saw a Groupon deal for $20. This is an exploratory trip, so flexibility is the key. Food/coffee stops as desired. I will check the river and weather conditions by 7am the morning of, to determine whether to go or postpone. SEPTA tells me that there should be 3 cars on each train, which would allow 6 bicyclists, but I am limiting to 4 for peace of mind.

    Leader: Eve Gentieu, , 516-902-7921

Note the 9:00 start time to beat some of the heat. A short ride to take the place of the postponed tubing trip. We will follow Chuck Herbert's route but will turn around shortly after Bartram's Garden instead of continuing on to Heinz NWR. Watt Khmer Palelai Monastery is a Cambodian Theravada Buddhist Temple close by that is relatively new and worth a look. Outward - Schuylkill Banks to South Street, then down Grays Ferry, then through the garden. On the way back, we'll hit the Crescent Trail, parallel the Schuylkill Expwy on River Fields Dr, then back down to the Schuylkill trail at Chestnut Street. Optional visit to Cira Green, Park in the Sky. Probable stop for something refreshing after the Garden.

Ridley Creek State Park - Once Around

Level D: 10mph, 45 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. Cue sheets will not be available.
    Leader: Tim Carey, , 267-414-9037

This is one of those "D" pace but challenging hill rides I am notoriously known for. Anytime you go west, there are hills. Rest stop at the WAWA on Sproul Rd in Broomall to buy a Shortie for lunch in the park. Once around the loop path in the Ridley Creek State Park. More hills on the way back, Rose Tree, Crum-Ridley Creek Rds. Pack a lunch or buy one at WAWA. If KYW is reporting rain outside their studio one hour prior to start, ride cancels.

Spring Mill to Hollywood (and a goat farm)

Level C: 11.5-12mph, 38 miles. Meet at Spring Mill SEPTA lot beside Riverbend Cycles. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. Cue sheets will not be available.
    Leader: Michael Fuller, , 610-551-8256

Yes, Hollywood is in Pennsylvania. Moderate pace ride with some hills. We will regroup at hill tops and traffic signals. H2O at mile 16 and mile 27. In between we will visit the goats. Maybe Anthony will be there. No potty at the start :( Make a pit stop before you arrive.
