BCP offers many regularly scheduled weekly rides. Follow this link to view the Weekly Ride List for more detailed information regarding these rides than the minimal description provided in the Monthly Ride Calendar below. Occasionally, ad-hoc rides are announced. These rides are sent by email to all members of the BCP email list. To join this list, click here.     Sunny Sunday D Ride

    Level D: 9-12mph, 12-24 miles. Meet at Jacobs Engineering Parking Lot. The ride leaves at 11:30 am.

    OWLS(Older, Wiser,Longer,Slower) paced ride to see the Mummer’s Parade. PLEASE NOTE THE STARTING TIME and THE START LOCATION. If you want to go just one way, take the Septa Regional Rail to arrive at 11:20 at the Conshohocken station. The Trains leave from Jefferson Station at 10:51, Suburban Station at 10:46, 30th Stree at 10:41. Please check the Regional Rail Schedule to make sure there are no changes to the schedule. Please wear helmet(required by club rules). Bring extra tube and tools to repair a flat, clothes appropriate for the weather, water, good lights for the return trip. We will ride to the Kimmel Center on Broad Street. The bikes will be locked near there. Depending on the weather conditions, I will announce on the day of the ride what time we will gather for the return trip. Inside the Kimmel Center, there are musical acts, light snacks, and bathrooms. On the way back to Conshohocken, we will stop at Cosmic Cafe for their annual party. It is free, but donations are accepted for the Cosmic Cafe's Foundation, which assists people living with disabilities to learn in a supportive environment. You have the choice to take a Septa Regional Rail Train back to Conshohocken. HAPPY AND A HEALTHY NEW YEAR OF BIKE RIDING!


    Sunny Sunday C Spin-Off

    Levels C+: 13mph, C: 12mph Meet at Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 12:15 pm.

    A true C ride, which cheerfully waits to regroup. Usually 25-35 miles with a lunch or snack stop. Meet at the Italian Fountain, near the parking garage sign. We do not go on the Sunday of the Scenic Schuylkill Century (September 11, 2022).

This will be a nice easy ride with only the climb off Kelly Drive into the Park being a challenge. So if you've been looking for an opportunity to get back on the bike again,after a holiday respite, this is it! We'll take Bryn Mawr Ave, to Latches Lane to Merion Road, on past Narberth and into Wynnewood. We'll try to make the downhill trip back home as scenic as possible , and also take the St, Asaph's downhill to the MLK for the completion of our trip. Our ETA for completion is 12:30.     We will cycle across town on the newly striped bicycle lane on Washington Avenue to Pier 68. Then follow the Delaware River Multi Use Trail to Penn Treaty Park.     Pretty & meandering route from Flourtown through Montgomery County, to the Nook & Kranny Kafe in Eagleville for coffee and lunch. Outbound via Blue Bell, Centre Square and Worcester. Return via Norristown Farm Park. Lunch stop in Eagleville is at mile 24. We have a choice of eateries at the lunch break in Eagleville, either a sit-down stop indoors, or, a Turkey Hill Mini-Mart. On the way to lunch, we have optional quick bathroom stops at either Centre Square Park (mile 12), or Heebner Park (mile 16), if needed. Terrain is rolling, and total elevation gain is 2343 ft, with most climbing in the middle section.     Slower Early Bird Ride to Coffee in Devon and E. Fairmount Park Loops (ad-hoc ride)

    Assemble at 8:55. Depart at 9:00 SHARP! Ride through West Fairmount Park, Bala Cynwyd. Merion, Havertown, Haverford, Bryn Mawr, Devon, Wayne, Conshohocken, etc., finishing with Manayunk Bridge and East Fairmount Park Loops. At mile 26 or so, 35-minute coffee stop at Pour Richards (it's all about the coffee). Many hills (approx. 3,600 feet of climbing), including 10 or so relatively long ones, but no killers. Will regroup if necessary, but riders are expected to maintain the group pace.

    Pretty loop from Heebner Park in Cedars, Montgomery County, near Evansburg. Food stop at Landis Market in Telford, Bucks County at Mile 22. Pass alpaca farm (Graceful Glen) at Mile 32. Along the way, we'll cross a couple of peaceful creeks, and pass plenty of wide open, green landscapes. Total climbing 2634 ft. Return via SRT to the Spring Mill trailhead, then meander back up to Bruno's. Total climbing 1328 ft. GOOD NEWS: Days are gradually getting longer.     10.5 mph D ride to Tricycle in Conshy. (Little confusion on the back lot folks). We"ll stop at Tricycle again this week so Tim"s ride can commence from there to valley Forge, per request of a fellow rider. So, let's meet at Cosmic at 10:00 per usual and go out to Tricycle. Then those who are so inclined can continue on to VF, or come back with the rest of us to Cosmic. Pre-register.

It will be a remote start, 11.15 am at Tricycles. This will be about 32 miles but if you start out with the 10 am to Conshohocken from Cosmic Cafe, Monday ride, the distance will be 55 miles.     Let's go to a nice historic town that was established by some wealthy Quaker Philadelphians in the 1880s. The ferry to and from Philly is no longer running but the dock is still there. I went on a ride here lead by Rob Gusky earlier in the year and thought it might be nice to stop back, We can stop by a nice Milanese pizza place for a slice or a salad before heading back to Philly. PLEASE NOTE OUR START POINT ON THE PA SIDE OF THE BEN FRANKLIN BRIDGE

    If you missed the birthday ride and are half the age, we will reprise the ride but half the age in miles going on to Trenton, NJ but first stopping at the Bristol Amish Farmers Market for lunch. The ride from this point follows the Pennsylvanian Canal Tow Path to Morrisville, PA. Once over the Trenton Makes the World Takes bridge into Trenton, we will board the River Line to Camden, If KYW is reporting rain, snow or icy road conditions outside their studio one hour prior to start, ride cancels.


    Saturday Morning Hike - EVANSBURG STATE PARK/SKIPPACK CREEK

    Hike Moderate Pace on Moderate Trails, 5.5 miles. Meet at Evansburg State Park, Pavillion A, Mayhall Rd. The hike leaves at 9:30 am. The on-line route map is https://ride withgps.com/routes/34926964.

    Pretty & peaceful morning hike on the Skippack Creek Loop Trail in Evansburg State Park. Most of this route takes us through thickly wooded areas, protecting us from the wind and dampness. Relatively gentle terrain, with only 263 ft of climbing. Please wear sturdy hiking shoes. Hiking poles are strongly recommended. Traction cleats for your shoes are also recommended, if there are patches of ice. Plan is to return before 12:30pm. PLEASE use the ON-LINE PREREGISTRATION LINK BELOW. Preregistering saves you writing time at the hike start. Start/Finish: Parking lot of Picnic Pavilion "A" of Evansburg State Park, Mayhall Rd. This should be the first parking lot on your right, after entering the park on Mayhall. Please zoom in on the map linked here, to view the meeting point. There are bathrooms near this parking lot, as we begin to walk down to the start of the hiking trail loop.

Re-cross the river on Sullivan's Bridge. After exiting the SRT at Spring Mill, meander through Spring Mill/Cedar Grove before returning to Bruno's. Total climbing 1771 ft. Cockeysville, MD to Baltimore for lunch with George Yarnell's daughter before boarding the many AMTRAK Trains to Philadelphia. One big IF.     This Sunday morning, January 22, the Wissahickon Restoration volunteers will be have a special tree-planting ceremony in honor and memory of beloved Samuel Ozer, who was part of the BCP family, but left us too soon. Our hike will begin and end at the Paper Trail Bicycle Cafe, where the tree-planting ceremony will take place. Our hike will take the Orange Trail north to the Kitchens Lane Bridge. We'll cross the creek at Kitchens Lane, then head south on the Yellow Trail. We will pass Lovers Leap, the Hermit's Cave, and descend the 100 Steps. When we get to Ridge Ave, we'll re-cross the creek and hike back up on the other side. START/FINISH: The Paper Trail Bicycle Cafe is located at 211 Lincoln Dr (Rittenhouse Town Lane & Orange Trail). Rittenhouse Town Lane is accessible from Wissahickon Ave between Walnut Lane and Lincoln Drive.

    Let's head out to the Farmer's Market/DiB Bros in Ardmore, which provides a nice indoor space to enjoy your snack. We'll take Sedgeley up to the Park , across the Strawberry Mansion Bridge to Chamonix, Ford Road to Belmont Ave and finally to Bryn Mawr Ave to Highland and then the Merion Train Station. I'd like to give the train station pedestrian tunnel another try. Know that this requires our walking our bikes through the tunnel plus carrying them up and down about a dozen steps. I'll be happy to assist you if needed, and I'm sure others well help also . Going under the tracks opens upa new section of Merion to tour plus allows us to avoid going up the narrow bridge on Bowden Ave. We'll find a nice scenic route back to the MLK.

    [NOTE: Our hike will visit the grounds of the Historic Oaks Cloister, but we will not go inside. The building is currently closed to visitors.] 🚶‍♀️ 🐕 🚶🏽Today's hike is a bit different -- Sid Ozer and Mindy Maslin will be our guides for a hike to the Historic Oaks Cloister, home of architect Joseph Miller Huston, designer of the PA State Capitol and one-time assistant to Frank Furness. 🏡 Sid will tell us about the cloister and botanist Mindy will tell us about some of the trees along the way, including a rare American Chestnut. 🌳 We'll start on the White Trail, go about a mile through Blue Bell Meadow and out onto the street to meet Sid and Mindy, then through Sam's Forest and Rittenhouse Town and across to the Cloister. 🚶‍♀️🚶🏽 Then we''ll hike along the Orange Trail and Forbidden Drive out to the Kitchen's Lane Bridge, and back on the White Trail, with a 15-min. optional side trip to the Toleration Statue near the end of our hike. There is plenty of free, safe on-street 🅿️ parking at the trailhead. 🚂 The trailhead is a short distance from the Upsal Station on SEPTA's R8 line. The 8:40 am train from Suburban station arrives at 9:05 am. 🚂 We can meet those arriving by train for the start of the hike. (Please let Chuck know if you would like us to meet you at the station.) 🚶🏽‍♂️🚶‍♀️🚶🏽🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️ 🐕 🚶🏽Each Sunday from Nov 13, 2022 to March 6, 2023 BCP will sponsor a hike in the Wissahickon. 🐕 🚶🏽 New hikers, cagey veterans, and dogs on leashes are welcome to join us.


    Sunny Sunday D Ride

    Level D: 9-12mph, 12-24 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 12:00 pm.

    OWLS(Older, Wiser,Longer,Slower) paced ride through Fairmount Park and beyond for all ages, new riders, or getting back to riding after a layoff. Please wear helmet(required by club rules). Bring extra tube and tools to repair a flat, clothes appropriate for the weather, water, and $ for mid-ride snack stop. There might be a brief session of teaching an essential biking skill. A hill or two will help with physical conditioning, but we will gather our breaths at the top of hills. Good humor is always welcomed.


    Sunny Sunday C Spin-Off

    Level C: 12mph Meet at Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 12:15 pm.

    Sunday Afternoon (Post-Hike) Winter Ramble Ride - Roxborough to Valley Forge/Devon, via SRT

    For Sunday, Jan. 22: Cycle from Roxborough down to the flat Schuylkill River Trail, then cross the river on Sullivan's Bridge, meander through Valley Forge National Park, then stop for coffee/snack at Panera in the Gateway Shopping Center in Devon/Wayne. Return vis Sullivan's Bridge and the SRT. WEATHER WATCH: If it's raining at or before 1:00pm, ride is cancelled. If it begins to rain during our ride, we will immediately turn around. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Scenic loop, thru Mont.Co. or Lower Bucks, brief rest stop. MEETING POINTS WILL VARY, based on the various Start/Finish points of the morning hike somewhere in the Wissahickon. Return by 5:00pm. Distance will be determined by sunset time. Please bring LIGHTS. Details posted each week. Every Sun during winter hike season, weather permitting, w/possible exception Valentine's Day weekend. If weather not bike-friendly, ride may be replaced by snow activity. Keep moving through winter - maintain base fitness for spring cycling in March. COVID PRECAUTIONS will be maintained, based on the current public health guidelines in effect at the time.
